Hi,
I download the keyboard and installed but can not enable it in settings do you know why? Running tnt 3588 with gapps only because debugging is always enable in the rest of the Roms crashing my laptop when connect in USB mode. I do have cwm 8 and z4root. Tried many keyboards the same result.

With TNT and its derivatives, you have to manually copy the keyboard APK file(s) from /data/app to /system/app and set the permissions on the files. Search in the forums for "alternate keyboard". There are a few threads about this.

Also, just FYI: I don't know if there's something weird about my Gtab or if it's the swiftkey software, or the smart keyboard software, but when I just tried swiftkey, I started getting FCs on everything, including smart keyboard. I was able to recover somewhat by using CWM to fux permissions, but eventually had to choose between swiftkey and smart keyboard because the latter kept FCing even after that.

Sorry I just rooted and put CM6 on the phone for my wife and I am just curious as to what option she now has for a new keyboard. Can she get the droid x multi touch keyboard or swype?
Thanks, Thomas

So pretty much the same options as with my Evo. Cool, thanks for responding kindly lol.
where can i get a swype board?? id like to try it out.
also, does anyone know when its gonna be available to everyone?
shapewriter is nice,I use it as my main keyboard however its off the market now.Anybody know if I can duplicate my shapewriter app for someone else to use?
search swype beta with yahoo, the first site that pops up should be it. Then sign up on the website and have them send you and email. Go to the email on your phone, the email will instruck you back to the web site to sign in and download the beta. In order for the website to determin what phone you have you need to make sure your phone browser is in android mode. After that just install it and go select it in your keyboard settings then you need to go to a text, click impute methode and select swype.

As long as shapewriter is "free" you can back it up with an app like titanium back up and then load it onto any device with that save. It should be as simple as navigating to the titanium back up folder and pulling the shaperwriter.apk or whatever its call to your computer and then putting it on the device you want. and installing it with astro or root explorer or something similar.

Hey all,
Rooted my nook today and after playing for a while I wanted to experiment with the Gingerbread keyboard. Now I get no keyboard at all. It just does not load. I go to settings/keyboard and it just kicks me back to the home page.
I'm running nook 1.1 rooted. with app launcher pro. I have not tried to restore defaults and then reroot.
Thanks
Found it. It is under the app drawer for launcher pro under the NookColor Tools
same thing happened to me, then i figured out the same menu you did. I can't get any keyboard other than the stock nook keyboard to work either. SwiftKey is downloaded, but won't show up on my keyboard list. and i have no cut and paste. have you worked that out yet?

If you have a copy of Root Explorer, you can use it to move your KB apk files from /data/app to /system/app

I own a nexus one, and after upgrading to gingerbread, some applications which are installed such as dolphin browser and soundhound are installed but are not listed as installed on the market and thus I don't get update notifications for them.
I tried to clear data on the market app to re sync the installed apps but it had been disabled on gingerbread
Can anyone shed some light please?
Thanks in advance,
Mark Cachia

Do they at least appear on the market?
Yes, I even re-installed the apps, still not showing in my apps though.

You might be able to use Titanium Backup's "Market Doctor" function to re-establish the application links to the Market, though I believe that requires root.
Give it some times, they'll probably come back on it's own.
If not use Market Doctor like suggested, that might or might not solve it.
It has happened to me here and there and usually fix itself.
Another thing you can try is download an app, any app (something free that can be delete afterward) and see if that bring the missing apps back.
Given 4.1.1 is probably going to be the very last update for AT&T Atrix HD users (Bell guys are lucky with the 4.1.2!), what are we gonna do about this bug? Are we stuck with this problem for good?
In 4.1.1 whenever you switch your default keyboard to any other keyboard (say, SwiftKey or even Swype), the third party keyboard gets disabled on reboot and the OS will switch to the default/stock keyboard. This is not the end of problems.
There is the annoying status bar notification for changing input methods every time the keyboard opens. The only way to disable this from popping up is to have only one active input method. Given the stock keyboard cannot be unchecked in settings, the only way to have only one keyboard that you want (say, SwiftKey for example) is to freeze/disable the stock keyboard app leaving SwiftKey as the only available input method.
Normally, this would work fine. But in 4.1.1, because the OS disables the third party keyboard and tries to reset back to the default keyboard on reboot, when it can't find it, goes into a crash loop leaving factory reset from the recovery as the only option of making the phone usable.
Does anyone have any suggestions to solve this particular conundrum?
Here is the solution I have found:
-install swiftkey from market
-use titanium backup root to backup the app
-uninstall the app
-restore backup (app only)
However, this is only a workaround and every time SwiftKey app or language updates, the OS disables SwiftKey on reboot and defaults to the stock keyboard. So, don't disable the stock keyboard for now unless you want to risk a factory reset every time SwiftKey app or data updates through the market. This workaround also doesn't address the problem of having the annoying input devices prompt in the status bar every time you use the keyboard.
More ingenious ideas / suggestions welcome.

I have 4.1.1 and use swype as my keyboard. It has never once switched back to the default keyboard on a reboot. I have not having this issue at all.
I have 4.1.1 on my Atrix HD and I use SwiftKey 3. Never had this problem.

I don't have this issue, and I switch keyboards depending on the number of hands I'm using! Another friend with an Atrix HD also does not face this issue...

Did you install SwiftKey 3 from the Play Store before you upgraded from ICS to JB OTA? If yes, that is expected.
But if you installed the app afresh in JB or updated the app or language after you had upgraded to JB, you would have this problem.
Swiftkey Flow, Swype, Swype Beta 1.3, Smart Keyboard Pro...everything works fine without having the issue you're facing!

Like mentioned on the link above, a lot of people are facing. Did you install them all afresh in 4.1.1?
Try uninstalling all of them from the Play Store today, reinstall them again from the Play Store and see if it still works.

This is a confirmed issue for all paid apps in 4.1.1.
Google has, however, corrected it in 4.1.2.
Only fix is to run a custom rom.

Hi
Got a rooted kindle fire hd with google services
Playing with dpi settings and found that a dpi of 200 looks amazing, only problem being the keyboard is screwed up - perfectly usable, just looks rubbish
Just install an alternative keyboard I thought- no so simple
They install, but I can't select them for use until iMovie them to /system/app. I can now select them but they force close. Any ideas? I have changed permissions. Do I need to move them somewhere else?
Cheers

Try Touchpal, that one seemed to fit the keys correctly at all dpi settings for the Kindle Hd. Just make sure you dont try and use the mic feature. You might want to disable it in your settings. Cause the keyboard to force close until i disabled the mic.

Same thing I can't even use it.
I seem unable to deselect the 'amazon' keyboard
I now have 3 keyboards installed and I can select the check box to the left of all of them but am unable to de-select amazon.
If i now select the default input method, amazon is the only option and the 3rd party keyboards are now unselected.
Got it sorted after digging in some seemingly old threads.
Bit of a schoolboy error really ...
Don't know how you guys are doing it without copying to system/app
anyway, I copy the apk from /data/app to /system/app, change permissions AND then tap it to install it once more - I guess this last install step copies libraries somewhere ??
Reboot and all is as expected.
Thanks for your help guys.
