[Q] Desktop Visualizer - Android Themes

Is there any way to change the Desktop Visualizer icons without having to delete them and re-create them? This is somewhat of a hassle.

Replace the image files on your SD card with the image you want to change. Then reboot.

LOL! I don't know why I didn't think of that... THANKS!

If you open the app from your launcher, hit menu then refresh widgets. Choose edit mode. Now when you click on a widget made with Desktop Visualizer you go to the edit screen instead of launching. When you're done editing, tap the notification and it will change to normal... or you can do the same thing you did to edit, just choose normal mode.

[Q] Installing icons...?

So, call me a retard, but after a ton of searching both these forums and google, I can't seem to figure out how to install icon packs such as mnml text and simp text by ultralinx. Any help would be appreciated.
You cant actually change icons in the app drawer (correct me if im wrong) you use the icons for launcher pro docks or desktop visualiser etc
If you want to change icons on the launcher pro dock, hold diwn on the dock shortcut, click on change icon and select custom icon and choose your icon.
Hope that helps!

Yes that's exactly what I want to do, but my question was what, exactly, I do with the zip files I've downloaded.
Not sure if this is the right answer to your question but I use an app called Better Cut to replace icons on my phone.
HOW TO USE CUSTOM ICONS
First of all, you need Launcher Pro and Desktop Visualizer.
You can get both of these at the marked for free. You might want to unlock Launcher Pro Plus as it has some cool features and widgets.
WinRAR is pretty much mandatory.
1) Get a hold of some icons. They usually come in .zip format, so you'll have to unzip them. You can do this by right clicking and pressing "Extract here".
2) Now that you've got a folder, you can delete the .zip file. Connect your phone to the computer and copy the folder onto your SD card.
3) Find your icons in either gallery or a file explorer
If you've got LauncherPro and want to change the dock icons, you do it like this:
- Long press on the icon you wish to change
- Choose custom icon from the menu
- Find your icon in either Gallery or FileManager
- Done!
Long press your homescreen, choose widgets scroll to Desktop Visualizer, choose a size - Find your icon, choose your application, tweak the settings.
And you're done. You've now made a shortcut on your homescreen with a custom icon.
Hope this helped.

Or you could choose 'shortcut'.
I've found that this makes the icons look smoother,
but I'm not sure what's the difference =P

I don't see any difference. But whatever, haha.
Or, HOW TO DO I IN ADW.LAUNCHER:
1. Have the icon image you want to use on your sdcard.
2. Long-Press on empty space on the home screen
3. Choose Custom Shortcut.
3. Press "Pick your activity"
4. Choose what you want the shortcut to do.
5. Press the icon.
6. Choose "Select Picture"
7. Find and select icon
8. Rename if wanted
9. Done

[Q] How do I get .ActivityPicker to work?

Has anyone had any luck getting the android activity picker to work. Specifically when I go to add a shortcut in ADW launcher, it closes back to the home screen.
When trying the same thing using my G2 logcat mentions com.android.settings/.ActivityPicker
I'm assuming this is missing from the nook file system since they didnt intend on us putting any apps on it yet, but has anyone figured out how to get it working?
Here's what I do:
Download Desktop Visualizer, and install on the Nook: http://www.appbrain.com/app/desktop-visualizer/jp.co.bii.android.app.dskvzr
Long press on launcher desktop, and add widget. Selected Desktop Visualizer widget in your desired size. Choose an icon from a picture or an existing application.
Then, hit 'Select Action', and then 'Other'. The list of options you're presented with after selecting other should be the same you'd see in the your shortcut list.
I did this and made two shortcuts/widgets to some gscript scripts I have.

Thanks! Now I finally have decent sized book shortcuts directly on my desktop, without having to switch back and forth between ADW and the default nook homescreen.

[Q] All Home launchers crash when creating shortcuts

*crap wrong section, mod plz move, sry all*
Is anyone else seeing this? Its fully rooted, everything works perfect, but Ive tried 4 different launchers now, and all of them crash the home screen (screen goes black after hitting "create/addshortcut", then resets to the home screen) when I create a shortcut.
I can put everything on the desktop other than shortcuts.
I first noticed it with LauncherPro when I was trying to change shortcuts on the toolbar (to get rid of the phone, contacts, etc) and every time I would try to change it, it would crash, but I was able to change the icon.
GDE is so far the only one that allows me to change icons on the tool bar, but still crashes if I try to add anything to the desktop.
I hope its something stupid Im missing, although, I have found ways around it, its jsut something thats botherin me like a pebble in my shoe lol
Well there is something missing on the NOOK that prevents this from happening. No home app will bring it back. I think the missing component is called "picker" or something like that and just like the market and other Gapps, someone will have to figure out how to add it.
Ah ok, as long as its something thats not working as intended. I must of missed it reading along here somewhere. I did find a way around it with Zeam and App organizer
Zeam allows you to drag icons to your tool bar, then you can drag them from the tool bar to the desktop with no crashing.
And app organizer allows Widgets that act as folders to be created, and widgets have no problem being added
Or you can just hold onto the program icon for a few secs and that will alow you to drag it the desktop.

I'm able to drag apps straight from the app drawer to the desktop with Zeam. Perhaps you're talking about something else though.
I found a work around for this. Since I've seen the question brought up every few days, I'll make a wiki article on this as well.
Requirements:
Desktop Visualizer: http://www.appbrain.com/app/desktop-visualizer/jp.co.bii.android.app.dskvzr
Icons for the shortcut you're making [not necessarily required, you can pick an existing app and use that apps icon for the shortcut as well]
Steps:
1. Long press desktop on launcher of choice
2. Add widget
3. Pick the desired widget size from the Desktop Visualizer options
4. Set your icon in Desktop Visualizer
5. Hit the Select Action button in Desktop Visualizer
6. Hit 'Other'
7. The menu you're now at should have the options that would normally be accessible from the shortcuts menu
8. Find the shortcut, finish up in DV, and voila, you're done.
Great tip, thanks ! Used it to toggle WiFi AdHoc/WiFi AP
Proxy Settings are not available
All shortcuts except the Proxy Settings shortcut are available.
Does that mean there is a way to access the WiFi settings directly ? Can only toggle so far.

[Q] LauncherPro Homescreen

hi,
i don't know how to set a different wallpaper for each homescreen in launcherpro
thanks
P.S. im not allowed to post a direct link so i cant give you an example
Press the Menu button on your device
Now press Wallpaper
Choose one
Win.
EDIT: Just realized it was multiple wallpapers.
Wallpaper Plus also does the job.
Search for multipicture wallpaper in the market,is free and is awesome.
I recommend Wallpaper Plus, it's better
Dose any one know how to customize home screen icons in the launcherpro.

Depends on what icons you are talking about. In terms of the dock, just long press on a dock item, and click the change icon option when the menu opens.
As for icons on the homescreen itself, you can change an applications shortcut icon whenever you create it. Just long press on the homescreen, Select Shortcuts, then Applications, Pick an App, then click its icon to change it.
You can also use Desktop Visualizer - http://www.appbrain.com/app/desktop-visualizer/jp.co.bii.android.app.dskvzr
This will let you set make custom widgets in many sizes and set the image for them to what you want. This will allow you to use oversized icons, or even custom designs such as the WP7 designs you might see around here.
Hope that answers your question

Thanks all for the comments........
PS, I couldn't click thanks4 papertreeprophet. cause its limited for each day..
when creating the shortcut, at the screen where you can rename the shortcut, click the icon, and it will allow you to choose whatever you'd like.
Instead of placing icons on your homescreen from the app drawer, long-press on the homescreen and go to shortcut, that will let you choose the icon and name. This only works for apps, not folders.

[Launcher 7] Folder Shortcuts.

Have decided to do a small tutorial on adding folder shortcuts to the excellent Launcher 7 home screen replacement by Timo Kujala.
I have used Desktop VisualizeR to create the shortcut icons and Apps Organizer for the pop-ups but any suitable shortcut app will do.
First of all download and install your shortcut app then set up your folder shortcuts.
Next create the folder widget in Desktop VisualizeR on the home screen: menu > Add widget > Desktop VisualizeR > 1x1 Small (for square icons) then choose the tile properties and Create tile.
Finally click on the resulting widget, choose your icon and using Select Action > Other > 'shortcut app' select shortcut. Define other properties and OK.
Done.
Edit
Been having a look at it and it seems that between them Launcher 7 and Desktop VisualizeR don't really handle the use of 2x1 icons for widgets that well.
The trick is to do it as previously explained but when you get to choosing the widget layout in DV.. choose 4x4. In L7 then choose 2x1 tile size, whatever background but for the next option make sure you leave Full-tile widget unticked and then Create tile.
You then have to resize your 2x1 icon, size don't seem to be too important but for whatever your 2x1 size is you need to square it off. For example if you're using a 230x120 image you need to resize it to 230x230 (i would save it to .png format just to be on the safe side). If it doesn't come out right then just play around with the original icon size
For resizing on Windows platform i use BIMP Lite which works really well for me.
The other steps would be the same as before and this method is obviously only for an horizontal tile.
Launcher Shortcuts
To link to other launchers from Launcher 7 try this:
Install Desktop VisualizeR -> Go to L7 and Add Widget. Choose DV and add widget for icon as per the above.
Go to L7 desktop and click on the resulting widget, click on Select Icon and choose icon image.
To link to alternative launcher click on Select Action -> Other -> Activities and that will give you a list of all the apps on your phone.
Scroll to your chosen launcher and click on it, this will show you a drop-down list of all the activities for that app. the link you need is usually the first one and in the case of Launcher Pro is 'com.fede.launcher.Launcher' select that.
This will take you back to DV where you can choose whether you want an icon label or not and so on... ok this and you will go back to L7 home screen. If the widget image is not displayed then you just need to refresh the home screen.
Hope this helps.
Update:
Live folders now added to Donate version of app from market. Please support the dev and further development.

Are you using Desktop VisualizeR to create the widget's icon (1x1 Small)? What is the icon source you're using? and are you enabling the tick for 'Full-tile widget'. You also need to be creating a widget rather than long pressing the icon in the app drawer.
If you're doing all that and still not working then let me know exactly what you're doing and what apps you're using and i'll try to help further.
Thanks and hope that helps.

The only thing i can think of is you just need to refresh the home screen.. that issue should be fixed in the new update of Launcher 7 (1.0.0.81). If it's not that that then i'm stumped cos you can't create the widget without defining the image and action.
Let me know if there's any change.
i'll wait for the update before i jump in...
Hi to all,
anyone knows how to edit existing folder with apps? I have created one folder with apps, and now i can only add this one folder to the tile (main screen). I cant seem to edit which apps are inside the folder neither i can delete this folder. When i choose "Add special tile-> Folder tile" i can just choose this one folder i have created. Help!
What you need is Menu -> Launcher7 settings and swipe across to the Folders tab. From there you can add a new folder or edit an existing folder by clicking on it. Hope that's what you're looking for
