I have CWM 3.0.0.6 on an uSD card, and the Nook boots fine into recovery, but when I swap out the card to remove dual boot, I get an error saying E: can't mount sdcard. Any ideas how to fix?
-Kevin
I've had this issue myself a few times.
Typically you'll want to swap out the SD card the second CWM boots up, and if that doesn't work you may want to try flashing CWM internally instead, or simply add the files to the CWM sd card via your phone or an SD reader.
Awesome - thanks Link. Pulling the card immediately after CWM launched enabled the Nook to recognize the card I quickly swapped in.

Hey all just a quick question. When I boot to cwr from rom manager and try to install any zips it wont mount the external card so I can select my zip. Maybe a bad cwr install?
Thanks!

Was the uSD inserted before or after booting into CWR?
If before, then it should be showing up. I've had a few times, though, where the card is misaligned just enough that it's not making proper contact. If this is the case, then the uSD won't show up anywhere at all. Reinserting the card typically solves that.
If you're inserting it after you've booted into CWR, then IME, it won't mount. I don't know if that's designed behavior or not. *shrug*
In CWR, there is an option to mount sdcard. Did you try that?
I had the same problem yesterday. CWR would not see the card or let me mount it manually. When booted into Android, the card was visible. I used a different card and CWR worked just like normal. Only thing I can think of is that there are some cards that CWR doesn't like?
I had just done a fresh FAT32 format on the card that wouldn't work. It was originally named "LA_NOOK" and thinking that maybe the name was the problem, I shortened it to "NOOK" and it didn't make a difference.
Ok so I tried a different micro SD and it was fine. Thanks for the help, although I still do wonder why my 8 gig card fails and my cheapo 2 gig card works great

dame it cwr wont see my sd card
I've been rooting the Color Nook for a while now, and also my Andy phones. I figured out a trick that might help you'all in the process. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, ever, so...
Most of these rooting and what-not procedures have you creating a bootable SD card, as well as installing a zip file on the SD card to install on the Nook. In creating the bootable SD card, however, you often don't have room for the zip file, or you put it on there and it doesn't seem to show up as selectable once you've booted into CWM.
The trick I use all the time is I have a CWM boot SD card - 4GB cheapo card that just has that on it. I put it in and boot up. Then I use the menu to mount the sdcard and then immediately unmount it. Once you do this, you can pop the card out and stick another one in - one with your zip file(s) on it. Then do your install through the menus.
If you don't mount and unmount, it won't like you changing the card and it will fail.
I hope this helps.
I just have CWM installed internally, so reflashing is super simple.
No need for a bootable SD at all.

Sometimes you don't have that option. Like when installing Phiremod to the EMMC...
I have just installed the official CM10 nightly from http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=p990
First of all used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975274
Took me a while to find the external sd card, it is listed as storage/sdcard1 but I can't access any internal sd card, I assumed it would be listed as storage/sdcard0 but clicking that just gives me an empty folder.
When I attach the phone to the PC only the external sd card shows up. CWM-recovery can't mount the sd card either (I have tried with CWM6 and CWM5).
I tried mounting the sd card from "settings-device-storage" and it starts to do it and then stops.
I could maybe live with this but I use Sygic for a satnav and that is telling me there is no sd card present, so I can't use it.
edit
it's ok now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34086129&postcount=30
I think It all started when I using linux to access the sdcard of my p970 2 days ago. I tried to rejected it safely but the computer said some error so I just unplug it anyway.
After that there are some unusual thing such as missing app.
Just then I found that the phone said "The sdcard is either empty or android cannot read this type of sdcard format..."
I used a card reader to check my sdcard but it is broken, so I do a quick format to it.
After that I want to do a clockworkmod recovery backup but it failed with a message
Waiting for SD card to mount (20s)
Waiting for SD card to mount (19s)
Waiting for SD card to mount (18s)
...
Waiting for SD card to mount (1s)
Cannot found SD card marker....
then it failed.
What should I do? I want to make a clean reinstallation.
try accessing to it by an usb adapter. copy datas if possible, then format. if you can't access to it at all, it means it's dead. if memory sectors become unreadable, it's dead.
I've borrowed my brother's sdcard...it works just fine.
So I guess the sd card is broken
In addition, when I checked it on the PC, I can do quick format successfully but the full format failed every time
be sure filesystem is fat32 and well partitionned (unique partition) . quick formating is enough.
if windows is dalaying the access to the card, it probably means the card is corrupted or dying
i installed 10.1 and upgraded to 10.2 on my nook hd. I downloaded the cm 11 recovery and cm11 rom and gaps to my nook to upgrade to kitkat. After i downloaded the cm 11 to my nook, the updater took me to recovery. i installed the cm 11, but then had problems. I realized that I was using the cm 10 recovery , and should have installed the cm 11 recovery before I attempted to flash the new rom. I then wrote verygreen's sd card image for cm11 and it did boot into recovery. when i tried to install the rom, the device said it couldn't mount the sd card. i tried using the cm 10 recovery image and that didn't work either. same message, couldn't mount sd card. I then formatted cache, data, boot, did another wipe and same issue. currently, it takes a long time but the nook hd will boot into cm recovery, but same issue about not able to mount sd card. I checked similar threads for other devices, but I couldn't find any solutions. I called barnes and noble customer assistance and they were totallyuseless. My question is how do i get recovery to mount my sd card?
ditto
I had the same issue on my nook hd-
When I wrote the image to the sd card- I could boot in to CWM 6.0.4.6, from that sd card- but it could not mount the sd card, or find any files on it. so I couldn't flash the emmc version. When I pulled that sd card out, it reverted back to cwm 6.0.3.2 (which worked fine with cm10.1) but again, it still can't find the sd card.
/sdcard is the internal sd and while is mounted and navigatable, it's blank and there's nothing to install from it. (is there a way to copy to it from some other device?)
the other option is to install a zip from /storage/sdcard1 but that does nothing but pop up
E: Can't mount /storage/sdcard1
or
Error mounting /storage/sdcard1

I've been following and using the info in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600572
I've used both a linux machine with dd and a windows machine with Win 32 disk imager for flashing images.
I've tried a variety of file systems (does anyone know what is the preferred file system for a grossly oversized micro sd card for CM11?).
I've tried to find a newer better version of CWM, and have found references to a 6.0.4.5b but haven't actually found the files yet.
have also tried sideloading with adb, but the device is never found. with either version of cwm
Would be ok moving back to cm10 as well, but as long as it can't find a SD card, I don't know how.
love this little device, would greatly appreciate any assistance.

after much banging of my head against the wall, I discovered that if i let it boot to the 6.0.3.2 on its own, it would let me mount the sd card that had the initial image written onto it.
So i loaded the new cwm zip and flashed it.
pulled the sd card out and had to let it reboot on its own 4 or 5 times before it popped up emmc CWM based recovery 6.0.4.6
..which then let me mount the sd card as /external_sd and I was able to flash the latest cm11 nightly (yes, I'm a glutton for punishment).
I've pulled the sd card out and rebooted...
AND IT'S BOOTING!!!!
...this is awesome.
Success
i changed sd cards and downloaded the recovery, rom, and gapps on the new card. Recovery was able to mount the new card and I got everything installed. Initially recovery aborted the rom installation, so I downloaded another cm10.1 and was able to flash it. So everything is good now.
