Diry Kernel - LG Optimus 2x

Hi !
I just bought a LGO2X in France (must be one of the first, since it's suppose to be available only the next week in France).
I noticed that I had some strange version of kernel and stuffs.
Android : 2.2.2
Base Band : 1035.21_20110218
Kernel : 2.6.32.9-dirty
Build : FRG83G
LGE Version : LGP990-V10a
I saw that a large part of XDA's users had more advanced version of LGE (V10b, c...) and Base Band.
So, the point is : will those elements be updated, when the Android 2.3 update comes out ?
I'm new to the android community, I might say silly things, please pardon me in advance . And btw I'm French, so excuse me if I wrote huge mistakes.
Thx.
EDIT : Damn it, mispelled the title, and no way to edit it. Sorry !

My dutch 990 has the same lge and base nr so dont know what you are reffering too as in updated other versions.
send from mah magic toaster

Well, check the thread on random reboots. Baseband and LGE version are variable.
Plus I'm pretty sure it's NOT normal to have a dirty kernel on a commercial device.

Hi there! Sending this from singapore. Mine also had a dirty k in it.meantime no auto shutdown experience yet. All Are fine. But waiting for xda to mod it.

I have a pre-sale sample, which also had a dirty kernel. I've updated mine with NVFlash, it also changed the kernel, however, I haven't noticed any significant changes ( I had 2.2.1- it became way faster).
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App

Okay then, no need to worry in that case thanks.
To be clear though, in order to update a Kernel, flashing is requiered ? No OTA official update could do it ?

The update tool doesn't work for me, I assume because my model is not retail, it cannot read the imei of the phone (at cellular # it stops and says it's not supported, and according to the log file my imei consists of 0-s, which isn't true). It should work for you, so NVFlash is not required for the official roms.
I think however, that you need to flash in order to update the kernel, but I can't provide any information that supports this.

[Q] newbie again

Hi all
I am just getting a head of myself here but I am wondering if I can learn before I start flashing my LG O2X.
I am in Australia and I am wondering which firmware (full stock) is most preferred at the moment?
I read in the firmware sections and it seems as if the not all stock firmware are very stable (Some people are complaining that it sucks out of the juice badly).
so any suggestions (links will help heaps) is much appreciated.
any link to good tutorial to flash the firmware is also greatly appreciated.
Thanks
sorry for the newbie questions

Cheers guys!
I am still confused with all this term of base band and firmware used for LG o2x.
On my Samsung if i want to update my stock firmware i just need to go to samfirware download the latest one . Open ODIN as the flashing application, put the downloaded firmware package and press start.
Is this the same process in LG?
Do i need to root first? Where can I download the latest firmware package for LG?
Thanks again guys

Hello!
This depends...
If you only want the latest firmware provided by LG - just use the LG Update tool, follow its instructions and click start - wait a few minutes and voila.
Only working with an unbranded phone of course - in case of a branded phone you might have to wait for the OTA from your provider.
But you might have to wait at least another 6 Month for the next update from LG - last Update by LG(in Nov.) was to Android 2.3.4 and still has some bugs - ICS(Android 4.0) is in the making but...
If you want root, a custom rom(I would say CM7 is a lot better than stock rom - my opinion) with all the latest updates(i.e. Android 2.3.7 may be an ICS-build for X-mas ) and/or an OC/UV kernel it is a little more complicated.
Thanks for the prompt reply.
So... it sounds like the CM7 has won lots of hearts.
If I want to update mine (stock unbranded), which tutorial should I use?
since I am completely new to LG, any step by step (from the beginning) tutorial will help greatly.
I am after total stability and good battery - I am only using camera/video recording, playing videos, musics, skype/fring/viber and also some small games like angry birds etc.. good GPS lock is a bonus.
So any recommendation is greatly appreciated
Thank you

Frist things First - backup all you date before you start because the phone RAM/ROM will be wiped!
If your phone comes with Froyo (Android 2.2.2) you could go right ahead and start after the ***-line
...if your phone comes already with GB (Android 2.3.4 – look under setting on the about page!) you need to smartflash a CM7-compatible baseband (i.e. 0725 for Froyo or 0823 as I use it).
Guide to flash baseband – only needed if your phone some with GB(Android 2.3.4)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008070
A German guide with downloadlinks…
http://www.handy-faq.de/forum/lg_op...-lg_optimus_speed_p990_aktuelle_baseband.html
If you try the newest baseband on this page (0823 – 23.08.11) you must flash all 4 files in descending order of filesize – the others are single files which are easier to use.
***************************************************************************
The easiest way would be to root the phone with SuperOneClick.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/superoneclick-updated-to-2-2-now-features-zergrush-exploit/
…and then use Clockworkmod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098745) or Rom Manager to flash the latest KANG, since there aren’t any up to date Nightly’s because the CM7-build bot server is broken.
A Guide is in the Wiki pages for the LG P990…
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/LG_Optimus_2X:_Full_Update_Guide#Method_via_ROM_Manager
You could use either one of these KANGs…
Rusty:
http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/gigglebread/p990/
temasek:
http://www.mediafire.com/temasek
koboltzz:
http://www.4shared.com/folder/9Y9RYzQA/_online.html
Don’t forget to flash the latest gapps for GB 2.3.7 (right now AFAIK version from14th Dez.)– you can find them on temaseks-mediafire account.
Just place KANG-Files and Gapps on your SD card before you enter boot recovery.
At the end you need GetRIL or LG RIL versions from the market to update you RIL because the preinstalled baseband of you new phone is almost probably 0725 and CM7 comes always with 0218 – just download GET RIL and hit the install button…
Now you should be good to go.
If you are even more adventurers you could look into the ironkrnL for more performance/powersaving – see my sig. and/or look in the ironkrnL-Thread at xda and flash an ironkrnL after the gapps.

So “only” about everything one could do with a Smartphone…
Latest ironkrnL-builds with 00 or 32 ramhack should do it(stability and good battery) - but you might need to set the ring delay between 3000-4000 in the build.prop found in /system (you need a root-capable filemanager/editor i.e. ES Datei Explorer (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop or Rom Tool from the market). I had a problem with the preset delay of 225.
Hope that helped...

[Q] SGH-I987 - New (to me) Device - Questions

Hey All,
I'm a Sprint Nexus S 4G user/Nook Color user, been around for a while, I've flashed a number of custom ROMs to my devices so I've been around the block a few times when it comes to doing all of this.
I'll be receiving a AT&T SGH-I987 (7" Galaxy Tab) soon, so I figured I'd start doing some research on the subject of installing custom ROMs on it so that I'm well informed before I blow it up.
I'm not an AT&T customer, so I'll probably just use the Wi-Fi capabilities of the device for the time being (unless Sprint upsets me and I move to a GSM carrier).
I'm fairly certain the device will be in stock condition when I receive it, so let's make that assumption for the time being.
I presume the first thing I'll do is check whether it's running 2.2 (Froyo) or 2.3 (Gingerbread).
If it's running 2.2, I'll want to check to see if the bootloader is signed/locked, and if it's locked, I'll need to unlock the bootloader using the patch here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071
If it's running 2.3, it sounds like I can pretty much just root the device with the following guide and go from there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812367
After that, I'm wide open to flash pretty much any ROM from what I can tell.
I've got enough Android devices around, so I was thinking about buying the media dock for this one and leaving it connected to the TV as a web browsing device, amongst other things.
Because of that, I'll probably try (though it will take some serious self control) not to throw Ice Cream Sandwich (AOKP or CM9) on it - keeping in mind that TV out isn't yet working in either of these ROMs (the biggest reason to go the ICS route would be for the bluetooth keyboard/mouse support...).
Looks like as of January 2012, Overcome 4.1.0 supports HDMI output, so at least I'd be able to get it up to 2.3.6.
Any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas the community can throw my way?
pitcherj
Sounds like you have it covered. If you start at teamovercome.net you can get the stock safe gingerbread, tools, and instructions. The stock safe gingerbread is rooted and has the CWR in the kernel. From that base you can go anywhere.

Awesome!

now on to modding my tab...hoping that everthing went well and not brick it he he he...
I hope someone could get the FM radio to work here.. I'd love to have it..there is a work in progress though...hope it would be a go,
basing on their teardown of the tab there is a chipset for that..now I don't know the reason for samsung not to activate it..
hi..
I'm able to follow the guide given at the overcome net
I was only able to get up to #6 which boots my tab up to JQ1 GB condition..
When I try to flash the overcome kernel v4.0.0 tar file, odin reported fail and
I can't boot the tab (I think I soft bricked it) the screen only showed a figure of cellphone and a pc with an exclamation inbetween.
I connected the tab to odin and again flash to GB stock safe v5 tar.
thankfully the tab booted to stock GB again.
Anyone know whats wrong?? Help please..

just a bad download..
I'm now on overcome ROM and testing; will give update as to my experience with the tab..
By the way don't be afraid if any of you softbricked your tab, its a nice learning experience plus gives you alot of confidence to tackle any future problems.
Well, just received the tab.
It's running 2.2, so thar be dragons ahead.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey All,
Everything went well!
One small hangup that may be helpful to others - when the instructions on the teamovercome page say to "sync with kies at least once" - you don't have to transfer data or anything, it just means have kies open, connect the tab, and make sure the drivers install successfully.
The bootloader patch went well - my device only allows installing signed firmwares, but that's fine.
Ran with teamovercome 4.1.0 for a while, but decided since I don't have a dock with HDMI for it yet that I'd give humberos a try.
Very simple install - copied the three zips to internal storage, flashed with CWM as instructed, boom.
Very nice guys, thanks for all of your help!

As promised here is my experience with the overcome rom
overall everything is nice and smooth
the battery seems to last longer..
the transition is good gives you a feel of ICS like feature..especially the music where Google music was in place of the stock player..
When you switch on the tab you are greeted by the overcome logo (nice)
the notification tab was give a nice overhaul and good looking widgets
overall good performace but the gyroscope mechanism seems not to work here..
(any ideas..)
the temple run i installed won't tilt to collect coins he he he..
overall I'd give it a five star...

[Q] Questions about baseband and some problems with the phone

I have a 0622 baseband and my phone is from Korea, but i live in Brazil, and i'd like to know if i need to change the baseband because im having some issues with my phone network, like sometimes the phone loses the signal and then it nevers come back and when i go to settings/wireless&networks/mobile/set network
it still lists the operators signal.
And if wanted a factory reset for my phone, how should i do it? Is there anyway to check the original baseband of my phone?
I'm using CM 7.2 with the latest etana kernel.
You can simply install the lastest brazilian LG's FW with its baseband using Smartflash or KDZ You can download all you need in the development section

there are a few things to check before you do anything/flashing:
1) try to check a suitable RIL...use GetRIL app or LG RIL Version app from the play store
2)I remember seeing something about the auto time selection in Temasek's Kang thread...try disabling the automatic time sync.maybe that is a solution.
3)tr changing to Temasek's Kang which is surely one among the best ROMs for O2X. HE ROCKS with his tweaks and cherry picks.
4)try using SU-660 Basebands....some of the devices dont respond well with normal BB.check tonyp's thread for a suitable BB and RIL combo.
going through a NVflash or kdz methods might be reserved for the last.
This is my opinion. but, take ur decision mate
Hope this helps

There is no BB/RIL combination at the moment that works with build version #5. All BBs show the same pincode error. Use build #4, that's working really well. Or have a look at a different ROM like Owain's.

[ROMS]ICS FULL STOCK V30A & V30B with root, Busybox, init.d - CWM installation

FULL STOCK LG ICS roms V30A & V30B
This is for people that want stock experience with the possibility of root, busybox and init.d support, but don't want the blingbling or tweaks from a custom rom.
These are full stock roms, meaning it is still odexed.
Modifications are help tools and have no effect on the stability and performance compared to a OTA updated.

INSTALLATION
ICS unlocked bootloader required with ICS partition layout.
Custom recovery for ICS.
Full wipe if coming from a different rom.
Install with custom recovery.
It is best to use the V30.. baseband for this.
V30B and V30A are different, first thing I did this morning was check them again.
V30A got more code then V30B , this is probably because V30A needs to support a wider region with more providers.
The strange thing to me is that LG gave it the same Baseband number 1035.21_20121130.
So it is possible that depending on the region you live in V30B or V30A is better.
To be very clear the ril of V30A and V30B are 100% the same so it can't be that if you get better connection
Note:
These are full stock LG ICS roms with the following modifications.
-Root
(SU 3.1.3)
-BusyBox 1.20.2
(Busybox is installed as primary and not default toolbox)
-Init.d support (Ramdisk modded for this)
For people that want to use scripts, like V6Supercharger or any other that needs init.d.
Folder is already present in "system/etc"
-Data mounted in EXT4 like the rest of the system.

-Side info , these roms are fully based on the stock KDZ files that I extracted and pulled the full system from it and turned it into a cwm flashable package.
I used spyrosk Toolkit for it and kitchen with .img extraction tool. This way I got a clean boot.img and system dump .img that I then turned into a system build folder.
The same way I build my custom roms
-Every one that wants can use these roms as a base for a custom rom that they want to build.

Both 30A and 30B are distributed multilanguage even each of them has a different region distribution.
Thai language is already included in 30B, the same of Italian used by me.
Civato, maybe you should explain in your first post that region does not mean multilanguage options.

Really thanks buddy
How stable is this, my missus has the 2x and is constantly having problems she's been telling me today that she's already had to do a battery pull 4 times today because the instability.
All I need is a rom that's solid and stable and just works I don't care about fancy tweaks and speed just save me some ear ache Is this the rom to try?

This is full stock with no tweaks , only help tools like full root , init.d and busybox. These things have no effect on stability.
If you got problems with this you got a problem with your phone.
I've not flashed this rom I've used others and others have not been stable hence why I was asking how stable this one actually is, is the stock good enough to be used as a daily driver? After all LG have not been known for their bug free stock roms in the past I mean no offence to the quality of your work just wondering how good LG's latest version is.

Sent from my LG-P500 using xda app-developers app
I've been using this on my partners phone for a while and I keep getting a very weird issue I've not seen on any other phone. Randomly when I wake the phone up the screen is flipped and the colours seams to be like a negative. If I press power to blank the screen the power again its all fine.

[Q] Problems with network search (CM 7.1.0-X8)

Hello everyone,
Recently I have upgrae my phone to CM 7.1.0-X8 (with kernel 2.6.29.6-nAa-11).
Unfortunately I have a problem when I try to browse mobile networks: an error appears (message 'Error while searching for networks'). I cannot log in to a network different than my own (this will cause problem with roaming abroad).
On another forum I have noticed that someone came across this problem on HTC phone and change of a library file (libhtc_ril.so) helped in that case but I neither have this library in my installation, nor it is a SE phone.
Can anyone help in this case? Thanks a lot in advance.

Trying using the latest version of the kernel that would be version 2.6.29.6-nAa-13.
Here is the link to the kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350484
And are you using the Official CM7 for you phone? If you are, trying using MiniCM7 its much better.
Here is a link to the ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362585

Yep, I'm using CM7 official Shakira version. Having read your post I'm wondering at the following issues:
1. What are the differences between official CM7 I have installed and Mini CM7?
2. Basically - current instalation works fine, apart from the network selection. Perhaps it would be sufficient to replace a specific library in my installation with another one from Mini CM7 version?
3. Is Mini CM7 better than normal CM7?

Official CM7 is pretty old and discontinued. You can think of MIniCM7 like an update that started when the Official CM7 for the X8 ended. So MiniCM7 is probably better in every way (I say probably because I have never used the Official CM7, but you never hear some one recommend the Official CM7 over MiniCM7). Also a lot of other ROMs are based on MiniCM7 so that says something. Replacing a library will be more complicated than switching Kernel and ROM and who knows if it will even work, you might end up breaking it more than fixing it.

I have upgraded my phone to MiniCM7 version. It has solved all the problems that existed earlier. Apart from problems with network, also the phone speaker is louder (as with the original SE Rom), FM Radio is also present.
Thanks a lot.:good:
