I'd hate to be that guy who starts a whole thread for something...but I've looked everywhere and can't find the answer.
I'm working on my first theme, and I unzipped the framework recourse apk files, made the changes to the files inside, and now I want to turn them back into apk format so I can make everything into a flashable update.
I can't figure out how to turn these framework recourse folders into framework recourse apk files! Can anyone help me!? Thanks! If all goes well, I'll have a new theme out for you guys by tonight.
Thanks in advance!

Yes. Zip up file, change .zip to .apk.
What? You dont need to resign .apk's. In fact, you're making too much work for yourself. Im sure you extracted the .apk to a folder. All you need to do is reopen that .apk with 7zip. Drag and drop your changes into the .apk and you're done. No need to resign or anything.

Thanks for your help guys. I ran into some trouble with all this, and even realized that I mistakenly used some of the wrong files (from a theme that I actually didn't want to use)...so I'm gonna have to spend more time working on this. Hopefully I can get it finished and uploaded tomorrow. But thank you for your help. Right now I got homework to do. bleh.
Thanks for the post. I've been looking all over for this answer.
sweet...........
This is great news! Currently you have to flash them, but I'm sure some of you on here would know how to make them downloadable on this forum for us or straight from the android market itself.
You can read all about the article here
Also, download the files to be flashed right here
Anyone think they can make these downloadable instead of having to flash them to have them?
ATTENTION!
Some people are having problems flashing this. Luckily Xfactor520 created another method.
"update.zip method didnt work neither did installing .apk ...i got them working on my captivate by copying lib to system/lib and the apks to data/app with root explorer.
then they work fine."
I tried flashing these, but nothing happened. Is there a trick to getting them to show up?

Well there is a lot of little stuff you need to be careful of.
for instance "unplug the USB cable during this step, as some users are reporting problems flashing recovery while plugged in"
Its pretty straight forward as I can tell, its like flashing anything else.
Just follow every step precisely and you will get the result you are looking for. It took me a few tries to do it right. I got a little frustrated and didn't give up, but now I have these wonderful new live backgrounds
Read through the comments on the guide's website, there were a lot of questions asked and they were answered, maybe it will help you

I installed these with root explorer like you all are doing. They appear in the live wallpaper list but when I open them they give me force closes. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
edit: nevermind, apparently the lib file didnt copy right. working great
Can someone explain how to open a .apk folder to view the files within? Also how to convert it back again with changes made to it? I would like to open the attached folder and change the dialer tones. I tried doing this changing the files in the ui but it didn't change the tones. My belief is they are wrapped in the .so
pretty sure its not in an .so because i dont see a .so tied to that apk. it would either be tied into the smali or you could make changes to the xml to point to different sounds.

My apologies. I'm working with two issues one is an .so and then there is this one, which is indeed an .apk.
So can you explain how I open this?
Get 7zip for windows, install it, open apk with 7zip file manager

I could not get the EMMC to mount to my PC but other than that everything seems good.
Now if I could just change the 3G icon to the one that comes with the Inc 2 I will be all set. I have tried Ninjamorph and flashing a zip file but cannot get it changed.

The icons you're looking for are in the SystemUI.apk, in res/drawable-hdpi. The pngs you are looking for are called stat_sys_data_*_3g_lte.png
You should be able to extract those images (should be 3-4), and remove the "_lte" from the filenames, and then drag these images back into the res/drawable-hdpi folder, and use adb or root explorer to push the SystemUI.apk to the data/*-System/system.app folder (look into how the rom is set up, that's just a default path). Once you have it in place, reboot, and you should be set.
Make a nandroid before doing this, as I'm no themer lol. If you have any trouble, let me know and I'll hook you up.

Do I do the extraction on my PC or on the phone itself. Also, where would I get the files to extract as this ROM does not have the 3G icons I wan and I would not be able to extract from this ROM

No bud put the apk on your pc's desktop, extract it and inside the extracted folder go to the path that fowty named out and look for the exact file names as well. Rename them like he said. Now open the apk on your desktop...the actuall apk and drop the renamed images into there proper path. and then push that apk back to data/*-System/system.app
Just wanted to report that emmc mount to pc does not appear to work for me, either. Emmc music works fine.
Just curious, joelz kingdom rom appears to have a modified mail.apk that bypasses the Exchange mail security. If I wanted to apply that apk to this rom, should it work? I tried replacing just the mail.apk, and the app opens, but fc's when I select the mail provider to add. Just wondering you guys' thoughts, didn't know if I needed to also copy other files, or if it just won't work. Thanks.

Ok I found the four icons in a systemui.apk folder that I had on the SD card of the phone. How do I get the renamed icons back onto the phone? Do I do it on the SD card or the phone's internal memory. On this stock 3.o ROM, I cannot mouth the phone's internal memory to my PC

That's what the edit button is for
The easiest way to do this is on a pc with 7zip, as you just drag and drop and done. If you can shoot me the SystemUI.apk from the rom I'll get it set up for you.

Hi all,
I recently installed AOKP ICS Milestone 5 onto my Samsung Galaxy S I9000, but one of the things i hate is the stock keyboard, the keys are too small and i end up hitting the wrong letters.
So i decided to try and install HTC_IME keyboard with Clicker_hi, the problem with this is that it forced closed everytime i selected a word.
I downloaded a compatible version but when i unzipped HTC_IME_hi22 there were 7 files in the folder i.e assets, lib, META-INF, res, AndroidManifest, classes, dex and resources.arsc. but what do i do with them.
I'm can't code for the life of me, can someone help me with this?
The thing you unzipped is the apk. Try if it works with putting it into /system/apps. Then give it right permissions(rw-r-r) and reboot.

But classes.dex are only in apks, not in zips. The keyboards are always apks.

I just discovered from another forum that renaming the files from ZIP to APK does the trick.
