New Dialpad Skins... [UPDATED 6/20/2008]

I downloaded and installed the HTC Touch dialpad, and it worked well but was pretty plain.
I've spent a few hours reworking the graphics it uses and came up with a new skin based on a wallpaper I downloaded from www.pocketpcscreens.com. I've got portrait working well, but haven't done landscape yet...
Here are a couple screenshots. If anyone would like to use it, let me know and I can post links here.
And SmartDial still works!!

To install it, you'll need to install the HTC Touch dialpad (Wizard_reTOUCHed_Dialer2.zip), then download the background zip of your choice. Copy all of the image files from the zip into your device's Windows dir, and overwrite any files it prompts about. Soft reset your phone (or stop cprog.exe then reopen the phone) and enjoy!
This has been tested on my T-Mobile Wing w/ WM6. I haven't tested it on any prior versions of WM or other devices, so maybe someone can chime in whether it's OK or not.
If anyone wants the raw png's to make your own, let me know and I can attach them too...
I also attached a corresponding 'Rocks' WM theme and images for ContactsManager and Slide2Unlock for a nice uniform look.
I'm not too sure about the technical aspects of the dialer... You may want to check the thread where the dialpad was released. This is just a graphical update I did for it...

when i call using the htc-retouched theme, in the call-in-progress screen i get green text instead of white (the call history, mute etc); and it's hard to read...
do you know a solution?

*** UPDATE: added new image file to post #1

Uploaded wallpapers and misc images for Slide2Unlock and ContactManager in post #1.
No screenshot for Slide2Unlock because, well, the device is locked. It's the same wallpaper but not as dark, so it looks nice and vibrant.

Thanks for the compliment! Unfortunately, at my current "skill" level, no. (notice the 'airquotes' around skill.)
I'm not really up on actual programming, this is simply a graphic overhaul of an existing skin.
If anyone out there can help me modify the actual layout, please feel free to chime in!!

Just for curiosity, is there something I can spell out better in the (admittedly vague) instructions? I know they probably skip a lot of 'read between the lines' steps, so if there's something that'll make it clearer please let me know!
Is it working OK for you? I don't think I've gotten any feedback yet that anyone else has it working, and I'm curious to know if it does.
Your post did help, because I noticed that the landscape theme background doesn't quite match the landscape dialer background. I've worked hard to keep them all uniform and avoid the wallpaper jumping up and down when you switch screens...

That's it. I must be officially dumb; I cannot find any information anywhere about how to apply a separate skin to the Touch dialer.
I was already using the PhoneBoost Lite with the Eten skin. Is this the same thing as the reTouched dialer you linked? (Again, I can't find any information linking the two)

Nah, don't feel dumb. No problem at all. They're not related - I got the Touch dialpad from here. I got it simply to get rid of the horrendous T-Mobile dialpad. After I installed it, I wasn't overly impressed by the looks of this one either, and realized that all of the graphic elements were simply .png's in the Windows directory. I used the old dialpad as a reference for size and layout and created a whole new set of graphics to use instead of the default Touch ones. There's no coding or software manipulation at all on my end, it's all strictly graphical.

hey, just a quick question, what kinda smart dial is there in the touch dialer...is it the one from microsoft that is inbuilt in wm6 or is it the one from HTC...I personally liked the htc one better as it it showed me the number of the contact without having to press a key on the contact...

Now, even though I like the grey theme, I'd like to use it with a different background, but no matter which one I pick, the dialer always shows the "Rocks" one on it. Is there a way to keep and use your dialer and its nice transparency with any other background pic?

If you post a portrait and landscape wallpaper (240x320 and 320x240) I should be able to do it. I've designed the graphics to make it pretty easy to replace the wallpaper and keep the transparency...
Or are you referring to the default Touch background I showed?

I would like to use it with more than one background, so what I'm looking for is something like a nice "standard" (plain-ish, but nice) background for the dialer, say, in a dark color or something, still keeping the nice transparencies.
Maybe I'm being too picky... but since you have the "skill" (and yes, you do!), I'm sure you can come with a couple of ideas .

The files are on my laptop at work, so I can crank something out tomorrow. in the meantime take a look at pocketpcscreens.com and see if there are any wallpapers you want. Otherwise I'll just use a neutral one...

If I feel to restricted with touchflo 3D, I might go with one of these two...
Especially that WM7 skin looks sexy... if you choose the HTC today screen backrounds and customize the menus a bit, this might come very close to touchflo (maybe)... but much more customizable.
I would suggest: Share your themes or tell us what you are running on your today screen (and how)!!!

2. I've been themeing, skinning, hacking, moding, etc for a long time, and this is the first theme I can manage to enjoy from all aspects withought freezing, or screwing up. You'll see when you get yours. You wont skin it, I do how ever would like to customize the flow itself.
Get one.

I don't mind the TouchFLO myself - but it is a bit sluggish at times.
I've tried SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 but it wasn't as slick and needed a bit of configuration to get it as functional as the default touchflo. If I found a good theme for SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 that I liked (and works in VGA) I might be interested, but they all seem to be aimed at QVGA only or look average imho.

I am also getting rid of the 3d thingie,I think it is focused on looks more than usability,if I wanted that I would have bought an iphone and not a phone trying to like an iphone

I fully agree

I like the TouchFLO 3D alright. It isnt that bad. It is slow sometimes.
All I am waiting for is a "Home Customizer" so I can change the interface and most importantly reorder the tabs!!!

Yeah, I think TouchFlo3D is nice, and I will improve.
No offense, but I just don't see the point of getting a diamond if you are not going to use touchflow, considering it's price and all.

Don't think I'll be getting rid of TF3D anytime soon, but the Calendar is still dreadful.
Microsoft still only allows what, about two appointments in it's default plugin? And HTC have done the same with TF3D. There should at the very least be a Calendar tab in TF3D with an appearance similar to Today Agenda (simplified for the masses if necessary).
Never mind, I'm sure there's a way of getting PocketBreeze crowbarred in there somewhere...

+1, I've always used SPB PocketPlus instead of HTC Home but I like Touch Flo 3D, a few problems though :
1. Can only map programs from program page, not files/folders as with P+ - hopefully someone can figure that out. Would be nice to have several tabs too for different catefories of apps...
2. No battery bar at the top
3. I installed SPB P+ v4 but it messes up the close button even if this feature is not activated.

Mine will have WAD2, with Vista skin, including full start menu, and stuff like that, then on another page PocketPlus 4 with SPB Diary and Weather integrated,and then if its possible TF3D on another page too. But the swiping action of WAD2 might **** up TF3D.

@rorydaredkign - WAD2 seems pretty advanced, you can have several today pages ?

yep, the current one has pages too, but you have to have a button on each page to go to the next, so tf3d wouldn't work on it because its fullscreen and therefore youd be stuck on that page. However, WAD2, which had its RC1 released yesterday lets you swipe to change page, so the TF3D problem is solved.

Exactly my thoughts. I have the Diamond sincethis morning, will go on vacaction tomorrow. But am already considering of setting up my Diamond the way I like to to be instead of this fancy Tocuh Flow...

Hi guys,
I've finally came up with a piece of software that will enable you to view up to 6 calendar events on one page. This software was done to counter the lack of calendar events shown on the first page of TouchFlo3D.
Updates: QuickCal v1.2
Fixes/improvements:
>Smaller filesize ~300kb
>Added Tasks page to show incomplete tasks
>Does not show "done" appointments from today
>Added quick menu to access pocketOutlook Calendar/Tasks

As for the problems stated above, I need you guys to evaluate for me. There were some full-day appointments that the app missed. These are really old recurring ones. When I create a new similar appointment, it works. I have no idea about this behavior, but I'm trying to find out.
As for the 2MB memory usage in the background, I'll need an expert on this. Don't know how to reduce this. It doesn't bother me though.

Here's a screenshot:
The design has been matched to the Diamond's and is specifically coded for VGA devices only. It's been tested on the Diamond, of course
The Exit button does not close the app, but it minimises it. It's recommended to leave the software running in the background, so as to have quick access the next time you invoke it. The page will refresh each time you view it, so you're assured of latest appointments upfront.
Like I mentioned above, this app takes quite a while to load (abt 5secs++) if run fresh. It's my first PPC coding attempt, so perhaps it's not optimised yet
You can download the app below. Simple installation instructions are included. You'll need .Net CF. Tested on v3.5.
Lastly, it's a freeware ..and do post your comments.

I already have a matching Exit button, but the problem is, I can't get the rollOver effects done. The image does not change. (I have both ON/Off images), so after quite a while of trying, I decided to release it as such and work on it later on.

My goal is to make the app fade/scroll in like HTC's SIP selector... but that's kinda far-fech for a newbie PPC programmer like me. I'll pursue for answers in time to come.
Task lists? I might be able to get those on on another tab or something. I seldom use the task feature, so left that out for now.
TF3D seems to be 1 whole complete application with no external access for now. I wish it could be incorporated into TF3D
Experts, if U guys can help me out in the requests, it'll be good. Also, I wanna know how to optimize the code.

instead of that huge exit button (which makes you think your TD will explode when it's pressed), why not putting "exit" on the right side of "about" ?

Could you help me identify what causes this? I've tried multiple all-day events, and they all seem to show with the start time of 12AM.

That's a great app, I don't get why there's no native way to see upcoming appointements in wm6 calendar, except by using normal today screen

It's called WkTask. Great task manager.
You can view your calendar items on your default calendar, but there's no quick view to tell you what are your next x appointments.

Erm, I wouldn't advice replacing the WM6 calendar with this app. This app is just a viewer, nothing else. The WM6 calendar is the real thing which allow you to add/edit/del appointments.
If youre talking about changing the Calendar link on the TF3D screen to this app, I'm not sure how yet.

The more bitmaps you use, the more memory your app uses...
Don't worry. You have to make a choice.

[WAD] VGA Overlay Themes (Black and White)

.theme is VGA its all on one page, just a dock for every element.
Prerequisites:::::
of course Wisbar Desktop Advance 2
And for sms to work make sure mortscript is installed(here) and with a registry program create the registry key 'HKLM/Software/ThrottleLauncher/Messaging'
Usage:::
Slide up/down to show/hide bottom dock
Slide right for contacts dock, slide left for Applications dock
Taskbar is hidden on defualt, tap the date underneath the clock to launch the start menu/show taskbar. Or if you need the taskbar just enable on the page, the theme will not be affected[/SIZE]
tapping the "Updated..." on the weather page will update the weather
there is a notification tab for email, notification counters for sms and appointments, and notification bubbles that pop up for missed calls and voicemails (as these need your attention the most I'd think). they all hide when count is 0

Instructions:::
The Overlay Black zip is the whole theme folder ripped from my phone. unzip the file then copy the Overlay Black folder into themes inside of the WAD program folder (Program files/lakeridge/Wisbar Advance Desktop/themes/)

B]theme is VGA[/B] its all on one page, just a dock for every element.
Slide up/down to show/hide bottom dock
if you want the taskbar hidden, the theme will not be affected, and you can tap the date underneath the clock to launch the start menu/show taskbar.
tapping the "Updated..." on the weather page will update the weather

just sounds like the "messaging" app is in a different location than on my phone. no biggie. Put WAD into author mode and long press on the sms link, select properties, then select script, hilight "launch a program" and edit it to point to whatever messaging app on your phone you want.

Thanks.. I still have to get used to Author mode ... Any plans on making any side to side launching from the Today screen? I'm thinking Opera/text app or another heavily used program..

yea author mode isnt as hard as you think, this is my first theme. I have 2-3 new ones im currently working as well.
If youd like the slide gesture to launch a program that is easy to do yourself. In author mode long tap on the background, go to page, then properties, select gestures and there you can customize the slide up/down/left/right gestures to "launch a program" or do pretty much anything else you want

You're quite welcome. And thank you for the simplistic nature of the design. I was actually able to build the QVGA on top of your original. Didn't have to start from scratch.

Is anyone else having issues getting the theme to auto launch after a soft reset? I'm wondering why they didn't make a today plugin check box like the other themes Ive used.

sounds like program issues more than anything.
long click on the homscreen and go to settings to make sure that "detatch from today screen" is NOT checked. also check the wakeup tab to see if its checked to run on soft reset

What is the Jotapad? It's a Windows Phone app to jot down anything you want. Having a conversation with someone and really need
to do a drawing to illustrate your thoughts? This is the app you've been looking for!

What are the new features of version 1.6?
- Undo support. Now you can undo any lines you draw or erase. Quite handy!
- Auto Live ID sign-in. The app will try to sign-in with your Live ID without you having to go to the settings page. A time saver.
- Improved error reporting. I'm using the excelent BugSense to catch and log any unhandled exception so I can better fix it. If you're a developer check their page. This little plugin is brilliant! http://www.bugsense.com
- Pro Pen Selector. I've done a brand new, free form pen selector for the paid version of this app. Check it out.
What about the existing features?
- Multiple drawing pages
And you can copy/paste the lines between them!
- SkyDrive upload
Login with your Windows Live ID and upload your doodles straight to your SkyDrive!
- Page background colors
A multitude of page background colors can be chosen.
- Custom background images
Use any image from your Pictures Hub as the background of your doodle or take a photo straight from the image selection page!
- Save to the phone
Save your drawings to the Pictures Hub, sync them with your PC or share your doodle
using any of the supported services by your Windows Phone.
- Live Tile
If you pin the app to the start screen it will show the last drawing you made.
- Multi touch
Using two fingers you are able to zoom, rotate and move around the page of your drawing.
- Shake to clear
By shaking your phone it will vibrate and clear your drawing.
There are some limitations to this free version, but the app will let you know about these and provide an upgrade path for you.

thanks for this serious work, when i see all options i can just congrats you for the deep development you did. free version is great enough for common use...nice app!
little feedback : when the white background appears, ready to use, it's opened with a zoom (x8 i think) applied by default...should be 1:1 ratio by default don't you think?

I'm glad you like it! Yet I have quite a few ideas I haven't implemented yet so this is not the final version, at all.
I do have a question regarding this forum. When I update my app, should I create a new thread for it like I've been doing or should I edit the old thread and bump it to the top?

mmmh...i think all threads are edited in case of updates...but you should ask a dev because i didn't post any new thread for now :/ sorry.
i'm curious to see what you could add to your app, an inbuilt messenger?

Multiple drawing pages instead of just one, for example, it's a very requested feature.
EDIT: I'm doing that at the moment, do you guys think I should use some text to identify the pages like in this screenshot? Of just the image thumbnails would be fine?

I've only noticed that feedback right now. Yes, I think you are absolutely right, I've had a few emails of people having trouble understanding this app supports pinch to zoom. Actually I've just anwsered one such email right now.
EDIT: I've fixed it, but I want to finish the rest of the features I'm working on for this version before pushing it out. In the meantime I'm going to edit the marketplace description to warn people off.
EDIT 2: I've placed a callout ballon to let new users know the page is zoomed, I've opted by this because otherwise the drawn lines would look too thin and people would be confused (again...).

Page identification would be nice but that way takes too much space...
"page x" could be written with transparent fonts? without creating a two parts tile...why not a dynamic one with drawings on first side and "page x" on the other (would be awesome but perhaps hard to build).

the pinch & turn to zoom & rotate is very efficient!
if you need to translate your app into other languages, many people here would be happy to help just for fun (serious work is the rule!)...i could do the french one.

I was going to do flipping tiles like you said, but as you can see there's a known bug on the Silverlight Toolkit that mirrors the text upside down if no background image is set (see page 2 and 5):
<rant more> And if that was the only bug with that Toolkit we'd all be very happy...</rant mode> Anyway, I've used it for a while and it's kind of annoying actually, if you're looking for a specific drawing on a tile and then half of them flip, you have to sit there waiting for them to flip back, and if the ones you want to see don't flip, you have to wait even more...
I think I'm better off leaving it alone.

- I've added the AdDuplex control to get some good exposure, what is your opinion on network guys?
- Phone vibrates when you shake the phone to clear the drawing.
- Animated pages on phone rotation.
- Pictures uploaded to the SkyDrive they are placed in a folder called JotPad.
- Fixed a bug that slowed down drawing in certain circumstances
I've done a paid version of this app that allows users to draw over live video captured by the phone's camera. I can't post it here because it's paid, but can you guys go to this thread and check it out? There's a trial version you can download to see if you like it. As always get back to me with any questions or suggestions!
