New! Follow my updates on the project on Twitter with the #NexusTW hashtag.
Update: extremely close to an early build now, minor kernel updates needed then I should be able to successfully boot into the ROM. Last time I tried it did boot, but got stuck.
Just setting it up ready for my TW port and anyone else who is interested in helping me port the leaked 2.3.3 firmware for our Nexus S. Started to separate the previous Sense and TW threads upon JD's advice.
In the next few days I'm going to poke around the firmware and see what I can get working. Hopefully bits and pieces like codecs and FM radio can be then used in other custom ROMs (like my ROM, infin1y).

Extra codecs and all the other goodies will be nice just have to watch out for the RFS filesystem until I change it to use Ext4 through Voodoo or something.

Mhhh a lot of good stuff coming...
With Sense, TW4, CM7, the choice will be REALLY hard.
I hope we can get a multiboot on start of the device
A multiboot would indeed be very useful

That would be nice might be a bit hacky though, lower FPS or something to compensate for the lack of high speed chip or whatever that's missing.
I'd definitely try to keep as many file systems the same as what's currently on the Nexus S. Obviously sometimes this might not work at the start but I will aim that way.
As far as I can tell at the moment, it wouldn't be too hard to get it to work on the 9023 if it doesn't already. Probably a few different drivers needed but other than that it should be fine.

I would expect it to be harder to change the subsystem than to make it work on ext 4. I don't know any vibrant rom that runs on rfs anymore.

Take the Overcome expiriance. It feels very fast and smooth. Everything works without any issues and the community support (if you need it) is great. At the moment Alterbridge does not stop his developing (next version of his rom is in the oven) so we will get more and more performance.
PS: for a nexus S look you can flash the GreengerBlack theme.
(I know, I know......)
I came from overcome to dip7's rom and I can tell you that it is faster but it's closer to stock. Overcome has icons that look cool for some people but i like dip7's rom better.

Cool thanks for the replys guys quick question if I was to flash it is there anything or any builds for the uk model as there is so many different types of tab models. I don't want a brick
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
If you make your choise for overcome, the installation will be easy as sleep. You just have to follow the guide on "teamovercome.net". The Rom is made for GSM Tabs like yours. It's allmost impossible to brick the Tab.

The honeycomb rom by spacemoose1 is not complete yet. The last build he released was about 3 months ago. I tested it and it was laggy and many things were broken. I recommend gingerbread for now until spacemoose1 gets onto a better stage of his build.

Overcome or CM7 ?
I can see that overcome is pretty popular. I dont hear anybody touting CM7; I've got CM7 running on an HTC Desire HD and an LG Optimus One, and I'm pretty happy with it -- much better that the stock ROM, and on the O1, probably the nicest ROM out there. I'm just wondering a bit how much better worse it is compared to Overcome ?
I used to like cm7 but it is buggy as he'll Evan the last release was on my nexus s id have times where my screen would look like a burnt in screen animation, I would have to reboot all the time best roms i've used on my nexus is stock and miui only problem with miui us is the keyboard vibration don't work

What are some of your suggestions?

Definitely what you want. I've been an Overcome fan for a while now, been very happy with it.
I use Overcome since version 2.0.0 RC1. In my opinion it is the best ROM for the Gtab 7". It is fast, does not have too much bugs and the support by Team Overcome is very good. The development of the ROM is fast and continually.
Not to forget the very good installation instruction and the Change Log for every new version of the ROM.
UPDATE ON MAY 29, 2012: I'm sorry guys.
I won't be releasing my project. I'm actually stopping the effort to port the rom. I can't do it, it just is way too complicated to complete.
This means, until I decide to work on something new or find something worth porting, I am not developing for the D3 or Droid Bionic anymore.
I won't be picking up Motoblur + Android 4.0.4 either, so eliminate that question as well.
I hope you guys won't get mad.

I'm all for options, but Sense just isn't my cup of tea. Not to mention it would be Gingerbread based (I don't believe any HTC device currently has ICS), and many people (myself included) would see it as a step back.

What exactly has you hung up, as far as ICS is concerned (just a question)? Everything works, with the exception of face unlock, and some spotty bluetooth issues. Granted, I'm not overly familiar with the GSM builds and their respective bugs, but most people really seem to be enjoying the 4.0 builds...

The HTC One X has it Actually, I think all of the new HTC One series phones have it.
it's will be great if it contains a RTL & BIDI languages as well.....
I'm definitely interested. I prefer having full functionality for my phone, so the ICS ROMs are out for me for now, and I prefer the GB ROMs to be unthemed. It seems that all of the themed ROMs have something that I think looks mediocre (bad fonts that make it difficult to tell normal from bold, or that flow badly; on screen button elements that do not work right; mediocre battery indicators on the status bar; unattractive notification pull-downs; etc.)

i really hope its a good, multi-lang, gb 2.3.7 rom liek cm7.2 without any bloat like sense.
maybe even the hw-codecs and such are working?
btw. if you need a gsm guy for testing, msg me.
Here's an update:
This rom is a pain in the ass. It really is. So the chances of me completing this, with school and other things have gone down to about 20% from 70%.
But here are some details:
Gingerbread 2.3.6
Later Software from another device (I'm not naming it)
No GSM compatibility
Sorry GSM users, there isn't a way GSM will work on the rom until the device I'm porting this from is updated later this year.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
Are you using the Bell or Chinese ROM? I worked on the Bell 2.3.6 port, and it worked, but my modding/theme-ing skills are weak, so it didn't move much past stock appearance with some build.prop tweaks.

sure, if youre willing to work at it. but chances are it wont run perfectly. why would you want to downgrade your nexus 7 anyways?
Is there something about the Tab's version of Android that makes you want it over Google's? If it is something specific to the Tab from Samsung and not just an app the likelihood is it won't run right on the Nexus.
I had the chance to get a tab and I wanna see what the tab was like.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Touchwiz rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038920&highlight=touchwiz
I know of the ROM with the launcher but it doesn't have all the features the tab has to offer. (Not trying to say the tab is better than the nexus because the nexus 7 is amazing)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Part of what makes the N7 so much better than the Tab is that it has much better hardware and specs. Running the Tab's version of Android on the N7 (assuming you could) wouldn't tell you much about the Tab in terms of performance. It would be a useless comparison in that regard.
The only thing I would want to see from the tab 2 7inch is the tab ui launcher from its ics Rom, I always see the other launcher from jb ported but never the one that has tab ui
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
I see threads like this in the forums of every device I've owned (and that's a few).
People want HTC sense on their Samsung's, Touchwiz on their HTC, or some other combination.
The only device I've ever seen it pulled off successfully was HTC sense on the nexus one and only because the HTC desire had identical internal hardware.
It's just way too much work as overlays like Sense, Touchwiz, and Motoblur are closed source. It's possible to reverse engineer them and get them working on different hardware but it's a huge amount of labour and the results would be poorly optimized and not very much fun to use if someone even did manage it.
Some people with tabs go to great effort to run pure Google on them and you have that out of the box so be grateful for what you have. The grass is always greener on the other side.

Strange how peoples experiences differ
I use stock rom 4.2 and never ever have any kind of lag or freezing of any kind - everything works 100% and buttersmooth constantly
I never have to reboot or anything, it just runs for months and not even once have I had any lag or problems
Try a 4.1 rom, CM 10.1 is your best bet, but im not familliar of this device roms.

PM me if you need help
People have problems with 4.2 if they have old applications that are not updated for 4.2, don't clean their cache, or don't trim their storage.
Any complaints about battery life are due to applications requesting data synch or location. Those wake the Nexus up, and can be turned off.
4.2 is fine for me.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I had similar issues in stock 4.2, tried about 3 others before settling on cm10.1, which runs smooth as can be for me with good battery life.
Seems like the these things are pretty finicky and everyone's handles different ROMs differently.
