This is Google's Car Home app to use instead of HTC's gimped version. The google version has multiple screens to hold more icons that you can set, customizable icon colors, and background.
First download these 2 files:
CarHome
CarHomeLauncher
-Install com.google.android.carhome-1.apk on your phone.
-Either Push CarHomeLauncher.apk to /system/app or copy it there using your file manager. You will then need to change the permissions of CarHomeLauncher.apk to rw-r--r-- , I use Root Explorer to change the permissions.
-Reboot your phone and you can launch Car Home from the app drawer.

I've managed to remove the spacing between the tabs and the address bar so it looks as it should! Thanks to a little bit of legwork and the browser on my advent vega.

Thanks for getting back the extra real estate. Stupid thing having that gap there Loving it! Works perfect.
Hello all. I have created a zip containing a bunch of different folder icons.
!!!! This is not a fishable zip!!!!
Extract the zips contents to desired location using astro or whatever file manager you see fit.

Very sick!
Awesome work - check out my thread from yesterday with folder icons like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518016
1) Whenever I try to edit a folder png using this apk tool I downloaded;
-Place the apk in a folder, run the script.bat, unzip it, edit the image I want, zip it back up, etc etc, it always fails to sign properly. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but every tutorial I find, it seems I'm doing it step by step.
2) Is there a way I can edit the launcher to use bubble notifications on the icons, with other apps? Such as Kik, WhatsApp or Gmail? The notification add-on doesn't work at all with FB or Gmail. Is there a manifest or something I can go into to make it alert for those apps?
Thanks!

First off I have tried searching for anything that does this for a bit now, and at least as far as threads on XDA go I found one from 2011.
Basically I just want the text in the attached screenshot to act as a normal home screen folder but display text instead of the folder icon or the app icon previews. By act as a normal folder I mean being able to drag apps into it and be able to expand it with a tap.

I've tried minimalistic text, simple text, and desktop visualizer with no luck. Additionally I've tried using the settings in Nova Prime Launcher but the options it has does not support this idea.
I haven't used it in a year or so, but sounds like something ssLauncher could do.
The Google app and home screen widget used to look nice and minimal:

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then it got the new logo and coloring:
So I made a version with the new logo but old coloring to keep it minimal:

This is a themed Google App based on version 5.3.26.19.
To use:
-Rename base.apk in /data/app/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox-2 to base.apk.bak as a backup
-Put new base_themed.apk in /data/app/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox-2
-Rename base_themed.apk to base.apk like the original
-Set permissions on base.apk to 644
-Reboot
Let me know if it doesn't work.

If it has to do with the Google search bar, then I prefer a complete removement.

Yeah I need to learn how to do that too.
