Anyone intend to change to Nexus S from Galaxy S? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it worth to upgrade to the Nexus S? i have use the galaxy S for half a year and it was really a good phone with darky's Rom and speedmod Kernels. Now anyone here that changes from galaxy S to nexus S here? share your views

Hi,
I also took a look on Nexus S to change for it or not but I think although it has LED flash and quite bigger internal memory but having no misro SD slot to extend so it could be a problem for me to save and port my personal data fast and easy way.
You will not find as much support by forums for Nexus as much you can have for Galaxy S. I mean ROMs, problem solvings and so on...
I recognised that it is worth to wait for Galaxy S2 instead.
I hope it helps

Is there an ability to hack video camera to record 1080p?

Alright thanks. Yes i did research on the nexus s forum and they dont have much roms / kernels as much as the galaxy do.

its basically the same phone. i think it wouldnt be worth it - especially if you have darky's newest rom on ur gs i dont see that much of a difference

Nexus S is a Galaxy S with led flash and a downgraded screen, but you get all the Android updates first.
I would wait for Galaxy S II

Galaxy S ROM?

title says it all. is their going to be a galaxy s ROM? or can that not be done so easily because HTC and Samsung use different everythings?
probably not... different gpu and radio i think...
what do you want a galaxy s rom for anyway? with all the launchers out there now I cant see why you would just want it for the interface...
You can download the touchWiz Launcher. "TwLauncher" its called. That will give you the theme of the galaxy S for the home screens and the app drawer, but no Samsung widgets or apps as far as I know.
is porting the rom to nexus one possible if so any leaks yet as to who might do this????

porting the rom is allright although some things might not work ... but why would you want that????? i mean knowing that the samsung galaxy s is based on android 2.1 and the nexus is already having the froyo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can can of understand why wanting the samsung galaxy S Rom. my son has the Tmobile Vibrant version and the phone is bad #$&. I myself have the nexus one and will say the the only thing I like about the samsung GS are the speed and the widgets. I wish there were a way to get the Widgets off the galaxy S. but just like the post above. Froyo rules and is much better than 2.1

[Q] Which Phone?

I'm looking to buy a new phone but I'm not sure which to get.
I'm Canadian so my options are a bit limited.
My 3 options are:
Galaxy S Captivate
Galaxy S Vibrant
Desire Z
I was leaning towards the Desire Z because the physical keyboard but after reading all the problems about the G2 I started to reconsider. I may get the Desire Z if it doesn't have the same problems as the G2. But if not which phone should I get the Captivate or the Vibrant?
break it down to this:
front camera important - bell galaxy s vibrant
physical keyboard important - desire z
otherwise, rogers galaxy s captivate
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
the choice is obvious
Galaxy S i9000M (Bell Vibrant)
do not be fooled by the USA T-mobile Vibrant which is completely out of the league inferior sibling of the I9000 series

Sorry for no being very clear in my original post.
The main thing I care about is hackability and update speed (from 2.2 - 3.0 and so on). Everything else I would be willing to compromise on. But having a keyboard or front facing camera would be nice.
The vibrant doesn't have a search button, is that a big deal?
Whats the differences between the captivate and the vibrant?
re: keyboard, then you should go with the Sprint version of Galaxy S (Edge 4G)
all SGS phones are the same in regards to ROM releases
we are slowly getting more and more ROM Developers participating, so you should see more frequent unofficial ROMs and more choices
all Android phones are super hackable, you can pretty much do anything you want and change anything you want out of the box, after it has been rooted

Eugh. As much as I would reccomend the SGS, I can't. Samsung has killed this phone! I'd personally get the Desire Z, more dev support, better software (hardware is NOTHING without software) and the keyboard will be great.

Too bad... could you at least return to the original ROM (assuming you were using original stock ROM)?
If you could give us more details...
shame
i just purchased the t-499 myself and its a shame that such a new/great phone has so little support, ive looked all over google and only gotten mixed answers and dead end threads. icant even figure out if galaxy mini roms are cross compatible to the dart or not. its actually a good phone with a decent screen if u change the lcd_density to 100 the resolution is pretty decent.
if someone can help me a little it would be greatly appreciated, atleast point me in the right direction.
Not sure where else to post this, but can someone tell me if I can use a bootanimation.zip on the Samsung Dart? I've looked at a lot of threads on how to do this, used ROM toolbox to move files around, but haven't had any luck. I'd just like to know for sure so I don't drive myself crazy and waste more time!

On he stock Dart rom, no.
Samsung apparently uses some weird proprietary bootanimation format.
I am running the CM7 port in my sig from the MadTeam Forums and it of course uses bootanimation.zip's and I even have enabled boot sounds on it.
It's a good rom, couple of really minor bugs like button lights don't work and slow to wake on incoming calls, but overall quite stable.
Bummer....I guess I'll have to wait til I can upgrade to a new phone
they have make new rom for dart

Everyone here will say they love their captivate, as its really really good phone....
I used Galaxy Note for some time...its really good too
And Galaxy S2 is best in its competition....So yeah pretty much samsung makes really good phones now...depending on your budgets and needs, you should get one of those dual core samsung phones...or wait for SG3

I had allot of samsung phones, and my captivate imo is the best that I used. I still have my S2, but I use my cappy. I think its allot more reliable and stable.

I dont know why but I think the samsung smart phones are getting really ugly. I think the best samsung phone now is the galaxy nexus. Captivate is nice except the part that no front cam and no flash.
I like my galaxy s and didn't bother upgrading as the sgs2 is just too big
I'm waiting to see what the sgs3 is before deciding on my next phone

I agree about the cam, but that's really not a big deal to me . Because if I want to take good pics ill just use a digital camera. I bought a phone to use it as a phone , not a camera. Lol

[Q] Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Kernel Review

Please excuse my thread if one already exists. This site is so big i thought i would just start a new one.
I obviously have a N7000, and currently run the speedmod kernel, but the main reason behind me rooting, and running a 3rd party kernel, is to get audio control over my headset mic gain.
The bofella app looks great, but i can't seem to find a supporting kernel, unless the ones for the S3 are compatible, but i have no knowledge/balls to do anything like that.
The HD2 app again looks great, but asks me to come to xda developers for a kernel that contains /proc/mic_level...
I have read enough to scare me off trying something and seeing if it works haha...
Any suggestions for a kernel that won't drain my already tired battery, and will support audio adjustments via an app such as HD2 of bofella? Cheers Guys =)
Cheers
Yeah don't flash an s3 kernel unless you want to convert your phone into am expensive paperweight
All the custom kernels available right now for stock JB TW are based on speed mod...so if speed mod doesn't work...you are stuck with stock. If stock doesn't work you can try an AOSP based ROM. If that doesn't work you are simply out of luck.
