that is what HDMI mirroring does through the HDMI out cable.
If you have any difficulties/problems getting HDMI mirroring to work please post in the thread for HDMI mirroring.

Are you sure that is what it does. I thought it only gives you a menu to view images/videos/audio.
I dont think I can mirror an app on there. If yes can you tell me how?
Here is a way but it involves some hacking.
Enjoy

Yes. It should work the same way the VGA cables work. You see your homescreen right on the TV.
From the Tab.

Hi,
I just received an OEM Micro USB to HDMI adapter today.
I connected my Note to the adapter and then to the HDMI cable of my TV.
Unfortunately there is no HDMI signal on the TV side.
Now, I don't know howto activate TV output on the Note. I don't even know if that's possible.
Can anyone guide me on how to activate HDMI output on the Galaxy Note ?
Should I make any settings ?
Should I play a video ? (or would it give out video from HDMI even at home screen ?)
Should I power the phone and/or the HDMI adapter through USB ?
Thanks.

Connect HDMI cable to MHL adapter, and other end into TV. (duh...)
Plug your charger cable into the MHL adapter. (output won't work without this)
Plug your MHL adapter into Note. (no configuring required!)
Everything you do on your Note will be mirrored on your TV/Screen, at the Note's native 1280x800 resolution. Plain and simple!
Video's that are played via the MHL adapter will be played at their own native resolution, up to and including 1080p.
Enjoy!
thank you.
it doesn't work unfortunately.
maybe my adapter is not working but it passes power through USB.
how can I understand if it really doesn't pass HDMI ?

It's possible that you have a faulty adapter. It should just be plug and play, but you have to make sure that the adapter is receiving external USB power in order for it to work.
ok; it works now.
the micro USB connector was not fully connected...
thanks.
Similar issue
Hi, me to facing similar issue. The MHL adapter when connected does not show any notification on the screen. The only thing it does is charging the phone. Does it mean its a faulty adapter?
i hope i am answering my own question but still if there is anything which i may be missing here

and what rom and kernel are you on ?
I'm on stock running ICS and I get funky results, sometimes it works for a minute or two sometimes just a few seconds. The problem seems to be on the TV, a Sony Bravia, the HDMI setting has to be Wide for picture quality (it has zoom, smart zoom, wide, 16:9 and 4:3) but as soon as there is some glitch in receiving data from the phone the TV begins to scroll through those settings to regain a signal and I can't force a setting on wide for the HDMI connector, only for one of the SCART connectors.
The frustrating part is that it works flawlessly when I connect an Asus Transformer. Could it be the MHL's USB connector? If that is the case how can I check it?

Just in case anyone relooks this up.
Connect everything. Then REBOOT PHONE/NOTE. The TV will then detect it auto.
Hope this helps someone !!
It didnt help me... my sony bravia 32" tv just wont show the gnote's video. the same adapter works fine on my samsung 32" tv but not on the sony. I have even upgarded the sony tv's firmware too. tried changing to "Wide Zoom" settings and other things but still no video showing, although the tv does know there is something plugged in to HDMI port 1.
Anyone else got ideas?

lol, just don't try that any sony device to work together with another samsung device, this is a general rule for electronic trademarks.
*Frankly my friend, I lost a complete day trying my sony ericcson bt handset to work with my note, no success at all, so, I just bought a samsung one and everything gone well.
that sux, bluetooth is a standard and im sure there are no variants... they are cheap, so i will buy another one from ebay and see if it is bcos of the adpater and not the TV.

Probably not. Your HDMI connection on yout laptop is an HDMI output, not input.

Been doing some research, you MAYBE able to use this to get the image to your PC, and then to your monitor.
Don't think it worth the effort/investment tough.
You can use Teamviewer software. It will share your phone screen with your pc through the browser. You can remotely control the phone with mouse clicks on the pc registering as touches on the phone. It is free if used that way.
There are other screen mirroring apps. They are all versions of VNC software.
You need hdmi conection
As title sais, i want to connect both adapters on the phone to transform it into a desktop machine.

Thanx , could you be a bit more clear please? A photo would also do a job? Thanx again!
also my mhl (the official sony mhl) outputs [email protected] only? Why is that? I know that phone's build in screen is running @ 60fps and mhl is supposed to mirror.
Any input from the hi-tech guys?

Hi Greg,
Where is the option to change to 60 hz? I am using Sony IM750 MHL adapter.
Thanks
I am not sure, I don't use that app, I was just passing it on for the other user

Ah, ok. I can't seem to find a 60 hz option. It seems with non-mhl enabled 1080p tvs you can only get 24hz.
Not a solution for this but i've noticed with different TV sets that sometimes it runs in 1080p @ 30hz and other times i get 720p @ 60hz, my panasonic viera runs it 1080p @60hz
So not too sure why.
Try a different TV.

Not sure what to tell you m8, mine doesn't.
But certain TV's have yielded different results for me over the years with different phones, i'm not too sure what it's defined by either.
So our phone is incapable of driving an mhl and otg at the same time!? Is our microusb of 5 pin layout?
Its sad that nobody comes with a simple answer. For a ring full of developers one would assume this question would be simple to answer.
Hi
Does any one know / tried to connect the Mi8 to an external display using a type-c adapter, does the hardware supports it?
I tried to ask xaiomi themselves and got a confused reaction lol
Thanks in advance!
Just tried and doesn´t work
Wont work because the usb c port is not usb 3.1
Xiaomi didn't include the USB-C Alt-Mode
The only possibility you have is to use "DisplayLink". You will need an app from play store and a special cable (USB to HDMI with DisplayLink chipset + USB-C to USB-A adapter)

Do you know the name of the cable or where to buy it?
I'm came here now to ask about the adapter and found this thread kkk.
You can just look here: http://www.displaylink.com/
And you can just look on Amazon (search for displaylink) and look if the cable you want have one of these chipsets: http://www.displaylink.com/integrated-chipsets
I never tried it with display link only read about it.
Additionally you need this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.displaylink.presenter
Hi, thanks for the answers, if anyone is planning to buy that sort of cable and use it - can you please share results....please!!!
i'm looking for a way to work with my Mi8 as a sort of android PC by connecting it to a PC screen and hooking it with mouse and keyboard
the alternative way to display-link as written above - is to work with Chromecast, I tried that but for some reason the screen casting is not 100% full screen
i'm sure the reason is that the Mi8 is not 16:9 like my PC screen but still....it doesn't look OK
I don't know what to do....
