[Q] Get rid of superuser permissions - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i have a Nexus One, Android 2.2.1, build FRG83D.
I bought a 2nd hand one, it has installed te Superuser permission but seems not rooted, i mean i tried several tools like titanium backup, that need root acces and they didn't get it.
I tried get root acces with universal androot, it says that its already rooted, i try to root it again, it fails.
Im wondering what can I do, I was thinking in flashing to a original rom, not cooked, but im not sure if i need root acces to do that.
How can I delete Superuser permissions and root the phone properly?
I'm new in android and I'm getting a little lost here.
Thanks in advance.

Now I'm just a noob myself with this stuff too. It sounds like u got it 2nd hand if so I would find an ruu or what ever is required to get ur phone back to original out of the box state. Then try again. But make sure to get one that is rootable because I have seen ones that aren't.

Since you're on FRG83D, you can root with this method:

Ok. I'm going to root it, and see how it works. Then I supose I will install a cooked room 2.3.3 as long gingerbread its not easily rooteable.
Thanks guys.

You probably are rooted. However, some root apps (like Titanium Backup) require busybox to be installed as well as being rooted (otherwise those apps will give you an error saying you are not rooted, even though you are). Just install busybox from the market, and you should be fine.

You don't need to flash a cooked ROM if you don't want. Just flash a pre-rooted stock ROM, like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968396

I' ve alredy installed busybox and doesnt work, it fails when i try to install it, telling me that the phone is not rooted.

I suspect it was rooted, but got an OTA update at some point, losing root, but keeping the Superuser apk and possibly even su and busybox, but without the necessary privileges...

Then you are not rooted. You just have the Superuser application installed on your phone (does not give root access). Re-root like danger-rat indicated.
EDIT: danger-rat beat me to it!

Just Rooted my phone, following the method danger-rat posted here.
Thanks a looot!

[Q] Will flashing root file on rooted phone brick it?

I am trying to create a one click root and unlock but I am afraid to test it. Does anyone know if rooting a already rooted phone will brick it?
I don't know if this helps at all but when I rooted mine I used one click root then used unleash the beast which had root in the package. No problems here. Also I've heard is nearly impossible to brick this phone

Idk if this will help but I had fc problems with some programs that required root and I found the update.zip that contained the new superuser app and flashed it with the old superuser app installed and it worked perfectly.
So even though I'm not sure my answer would be yes.

root for FRG22D

Hey guys,
Trying to help a buddy at work unlock his driod1 - he updated to FFRG22D - now any of the single click root methods do not work..
My phone is a nexus1 and did not have these issues: As I am not a Droid owner / user I am hoping people in the forums here help to get him rooted.
I would like to get him on to ClockWork - so we can flash CM6 on his droid.
Can someone point me to a good guide to rooting this?
Cheers,
hey if he is OTA FRG22D can you please post his build.prop file for me to take a look at, it can be found under /system on phone memory, i am working out a market fix for rooted frg01b users like my self, i wont update until after frg22d is rooted for real but i can spoof the version and fingerprint if i have that file contents
i found what i was looking for after a while, thanks.

Have you had any luck? My buddy had his phone replaced and the new one has this update, but he would like me to root it again for him.
can you not just download the old froyo, put it in the sd as update.zip, flash that then root?
FRG22D hotspot app
I have the OTA FRG22D stock unrooted. In-order to root it, I used the following procedure, from droidforums:
"Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version". After installing the custom recovery:
"MC1_A855_1282081087_Recovery-Only_SPRecovery_0.99.3b.sbf", I was then successful installing a wifi hotspot app

little bit more than that but +1. Thanks for that thread though, trying to root a friend of mines Droid after he got that frd22 build it wont let him use rootme

So to root I just rename the file to update.zip and install it that way?

The one click root apps do not work with FRG22D. The exploit those apps used was patched with this release.
The FRG01B & FRG22B stock/odex/deodex only work for devices that are already rooted. Meaning that if you do manage to imstall them you will not have root.
You need to do a *sbf* back to 2.1 or2.01.
root droid regardless of os version.

look around for motocache post
Installed latest stock
Flashed Sprecovery
Flashed his package which roots and disables the attempt at the droid to unroot
well, ****. I'm new so I can't post outside links yet, but go to droidforums and search "[HowTo] Root, Deodex, and Theme Droid Froyo 2.2 FRG22D"
worked fine for me, no issues so far.

I'm new to the Droid 1 I came from the Eris and it is easy!!!!
Okay so I did it with out even having internet on my pc or Linux laptop which thank god I finally got internet today!!!! Use the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin method... Super easy I actually downloaded using my D1 transfered file from my phone to Linux laptop and changed the Windows commands to Linux commands and it worked and then I went in to market and flashed Clockwork!!!! Oh and yes I'm on FRG22D the phone came as a replacement for my Eris and it already had this build on it... PM me if you have any questions...

It doesn't.
The method that RodNoc_eR just mentioned above just worked for me. Here's the link again: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/74028-root-droid-1-regardless-os-version.html
for those of you who are doing this the complicated way, THERE IS a ONE-CLICK METHOD, since I cant post links, Google SuperOneClick, download and find instructions, its pretty much as easy as downloading the .zip, extracting it to where ever you want, right click on SuperOneClick application and Run as Administrator, make sure USB debugging is checked, DO NOT mount as USB storage device, click root button on the program, let it do its thing, and wa-la!
You have acheived root! Be sure to download the Custom Recovery of your choice, which is as easy as DLing Rom Manager from the Market and flashing ClockworkMod, I just did this and am now happy I spent time searching and not typing commands into the SDK, super easy and it works for the DROID 1 FRG22d, I just did it.
Enjoy!

How can I tell if I'm rooted?

Hey,
I'm just wondering if there is a way to test if my phone is rooted or not? When I had Eclair on there, I did a lag fix, and rooted it. Later down the track I flashed a Froyo ROM onto my phone, didn't like that, so flashed back to stock Eclair. Tried another Froyo ROM, didn't like that either, so went back to stock Eclair again. I have recently flashed the stock Froyo rom that is on samfirmware.com, and I want to root it.
Under Kernel Version in About Phone, it says:
2.6.32.9
[email protected] #7
Does this mean my phone is already rooted? I don't have the superuser app, nor do I have the root explorer app, so I am very confused as to the state of my phone at the moment..
Can someone please help?
P.S. The reason I want to root is I want it done before I apply [KERNEL] SpeedMod Froyo 339MB RAM XXJPX-Compatible, and I thought it would be best to have the phone rooted first...
Thanks
Denno
U could try terminal and just tipp su or try root explorer
........

where can I get the free root explorer? The one in the market is like 3 bucks...
Good question i found it extremely helpfull so 3 bucks was ok for me.try terminal or perhaps u can find it out with androzip but i dunno how
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You can try the app found in the market called z4root. It is able to check your phone whether it has root, and if your phone has not been rooted, you can apply root from that app too.
Cheers
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Thanks mate. I searched the market but couldn't find it? there is no results for z4root?
Z4root isn't in the market anymore i think search it on this forum
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
If your phone is rooted you should have a app called SuperUser
Just found z4root in the forums, and put it on the phone.
I just opened it and pressed Permanent Root..
I know about having the superuser app, but my kernel version said root in it, so I was confused..
My phone has just restarted, and i now have the Superuser app, so I'm guessing that it's worked. Again, I don't know how to test it, but I think I can now safely a.... well as I was writting this, something popped up asking for super user rights, so I'm very confident that my phone is now rooted.
Thanks for the help all!

[Q] After 2.3.3 update, I still have the SU icon in the app drawer?

As the title says, I have an icon for SU in the app drawer as if I was rooted. I came from CM7. Basically wiped data/cache and flashed the 47MB rom. After seeing it the first time I did a factory reset and it came back. Should I apply the full 87mb rom instead or is this normal now?
Are you sure you flashed the stock gb rom? I'm no expert but you may have flashed one of the pre rooted roms.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yeah, stock rom the moment it came out. I don't have root, but the icon is there.
Icon for SU, or SuperUser?
SU doesn't have an icon because it's a binary. Superuser has an icon, because it's an app (available in the market). Since it's an app, it will stay on the phone like all other apps...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Mine is still there too, even though I've lost ROOT access by upgrading from 2.2.2 to 2.3.3 ...
Hoping a nice 1-click root for GB comes out soon !
Yes you get that if you flash an OTA over a rooted stock image. You will also find that the su (and busybox if you had it) binary is still in /system/bin as well, but it's permissions are set in a way that makes it useless.
You're stuck with it until you root again (as it resides is /system/app), at which point you wont want to be rid of it... vicious circle

Thanks man, don't really mind it, was just making sure this was normal.
Thanks again!
ok cool, can't wait for superoneclick root to work...
Is there a superboot for this yet
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
The "superboot" for this exists for a long time. Insecure boot image is in Developers forum almost since the OTA was out.
It just requires unlocked bootloader to flash.

but when i use Titanium Backup

Get SuperOneClick v1.8beta under @ Android Apps and Games. It can root and/or market fix. Read my post towards the end for instructions on how to make it work.

O used the SOV on the SGT without any issues. All good thanks!
Maybe you refuse access to root and you remember your choice.
Try to go in superUser application and give TB root access.

I just rooted my Tab using z4root 1.3.0
Phone rebooted as superuser.
Installed Clockworkmod and installed AT&T recovery rom.
Worked perfectly for my unlocked AU tab i picked up this morning.
Allowed me to do a rom backup...and still reports rooted.
