only have 10mb left under /system/media, since bootanimation is 32mb.
Is it for SD Android or NAND android?
Using Nand android

It works On Both, just make sure you have enough space.

Cool. Will it say Eris when loaded on the Eris or is that just a generic n1 boot?
Sent from my Froyo Eris

Awesome, I'm on it! Thanks

Badass.
I tried putting this in my ROM, didn't work. All I get is a black/blank boot. I am going to try a few things to get it working.
It worked on my eris with plain jane. Actually on boot it says htc hero.
Its not actually reading phone info, its just an animated Gif image. Which ever one you download it'll display whatever info is put into it, usually based on different devices. There isn't one for the Eris yet, but the hero has the screen dimensions. That's why it works.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
anyone getting luck with KaosFroyo and this boot? Love the classic look. Also is there any posts for getting the standard boot animation back? Just in case I go ***** at Verizon one day
I've never had any problems with boot screens on KaosFroyo.
put bootanimation.zip in your tools folder.
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
to check to see if it worked
adb shell bootanimation
use ctrl^C to end

sorry i forgot to include the remount line first.
adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
(you'll see some information about file sized pushed if it worked)
adb shell bootanimation

don't know why it wouldn't run your boot animation. Use root explorer to look in your system/media folder and make sure you've got bootanimation.zip in the folder (and only one copy of it).
From looking around xda forums, I've seen comments about boot animation in data/local but I've always placed mine in system/media when I've used kaosfroyo or any other froyo based rom.
I really like this a lot.
So much so that I have been working on modifying it for the eris.
Does anyone know any specifics of what the png files need to be?
I created mine in photoshop 7, saved each one as png files and named them in numerical order, but I just get a blank black screen. (I also made sure they were 320x480)
Do they have to be a certain color depth?
no clue, but i want one updated for my eris in the worst way. also, maybe make the font a tad bigger so it's easier to read? idk if this is possible without having the text cut off or wrap or something...but i'm willing to help if there's anything i can do.
eris animation
I figured out what the problem was... I wasn't saving the zip correctly
You have to create a zip with no compression ("store" in 7zip)
If you want to make your own changes, I have attached the psd file I used in addition to the bootanimation.zip (which is ready to be uploaded to your eris)
My photoshop skills suck so don't laugh too hard.
Also note that the animated gif below only shows the part that I modified, but the bootanimation.zip contains the full sequence.
Hmm seems like I'll have to modify it to show V27. Other then that great work!
For anyone on KaosFroyo heres the fixed Bios boostscreen for ya.
It can be found in this topic. Big kudos to sobsmb for taking the time to fix it.
It's great to see that the Wildfire is getting some awesome custom ROMS built for it but there doesn't seem to be any custom bootanimators being made. I've made one but it's pretty shoddy so I was wondering if anyone else had come up with anything? If you've made one or know of any good custom ones post them below and maybe we can make this an official Wildfire custom bootanimator thread
This is my effort, it would be great if others could add theirs as well I'll put them in this first post for easy access.

well i thought you meant bootloader..Hboot .. but here you meant bootanimation.
On the subject of this, I still haven't managed to get my bootanimation file into my phone. I've tried the following:
Code:
adb remount
adb mv
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zip
adb reboot
It shows that the files have been transferred but when rebooting it still has the old animation. Any ideas anyone?
made an flashable zipfile with standard bootanimation in it.
just open the file (dont extract) and drag and drop that bootanimation.zip you wanna use insted into /system/customize/resource so the current bootanimation.zip get replaced with your custom bootanimation.zip.

I've tried on my DHD with virtuous quattro beta 8, but it won't work, I get a black screen during bootanim...
Can someone help me? Thanks
Rename the zip to bootanimation.zip, this should work. It's not flashable btw, it has to be copy pasted (in AOSP the location is system/media I think..).
Thanks for the reply, but this what I've already done.
Rename to bootanimation.zip, put in system/media and replace the stock bootanim, change the permissions...
But still won't work...

ell, it says the zip is empty because it's not actually a zip file. That's mp3 file just called with .zip
You just need to erase ".zip" from its name and it will work

Nice!
Alternatively, you can place the file in /data/local. This has a few advantages:
1. you don't need to remount as read-write (and you won't see a "readonly filesystem" error if you forget to)
2. it stays put until you do a full data wipe
5. three, sir!
3. it over-rides, rather than replaces, whatever is in /system/media ... including angry pink unicorns

I assumed that astro and the other similar apps provided access to the necessary file locations but I was wrong.
Try this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree
It is essentially the same as root explorer. Just find the downloaded bootanimation.zip and copy. Then find the data folder. Then find the local folder and hit paste. That's it. Reboot... cross fingers, and enjoy your new boot animation.
But after that, get back on here and hit the thanks button or it will not work again.

The /system folder is at the root of your devices internal storage. I've never used a PC to do this, only root explorer that has been granted su privileges. Go to /system/data and press the mount r/w button at the top right. Then long press the boot ani file to get this popup:
Then select permissions and make them match these:
You must be rooted to do this.

Move it to system/media and set permissions to rw- r-- r--
I used root explorer with no issues. It will have to be named bootanimation.zip. you can either rename your existing boot ani file, move it, or delete it.

Doesn't seem to want to work. I extracted the RAR to make the bootanimation.zip file, put it into /system/media, change the permissions, reboot, and get a black screen where there should be a boot animation. Does the same thing when I try to install it via AOKP's boot animation installer too.
