Hey guys,
the day before yesterday i flashed Darky's 9.5 on my phone.
This is the first Darkys version for me. The flashing was fine and very easy but then i got big problem regarding the Wlan battery use.
First i tell you how i flashed Darkys, perhaps i did a failure here.
1) First i flashed Darkys Reserrection Version on my phone
2) After that i configured the Darkys App from the market and flashed the reserrection.zip with CWM
3) At the end i flashed Darky's 9.5 with CWM
Now the points regarding my problem.
Yesterday night i switch off my phone with at least 85% battery. I switched off GPS,Bluetooth and i deactivated the data transfer mode for UMTS. But it was my intention to test the battery drain with active WLAN, because with the original T-Mobile Firmware the phone uses circa 25% battery a night.
But when i woke up i was really shocked. My phone turned off and the battery was complete empty. In this night the battery drained 85%. How is this possible? There were no apps running excepting the Advanced Task Killer.
Did i something wrong? (When i flashed the battery was fully charged)!!
//edit
Here are my settings:
PDA: I9000XWJS8
Phone: I9000XXJVE
CSC: I9000XXJS1
Kernel: DarkCore 1.0
I wouldn't think this was a common issue. Have you tried just re-flashing the ROM again via CWM? Maybe try the same thing again?
Thx for your answer.
Yeah i even think that it's not a common issue.
I will watch the battery this night. If the bug occurs again, i will flash the Rom with CWM again. Have i to disable the lagfix or can i do it on the fly without changing something in the current system ? If yes, where?
my battery is the best its been in a long while since using this rom so i wouldnt dismiss it just yet. what modem are u using?
I use the modem Darky's App Configurator has recommend (JQ1 but i have read that JVE is flashed (se my settings above)). But i think I will try flashing again. This night the battery drops from 100% to 47% with the same settings I mentioned above. Then i watched the battery usage, but they were strange.
Wifi and "Wifi using" uses 100% cause they were running the whole time. But the category "execution" used 75%, so the phone did not drop into sleep mode for about 75% of the whole night? How is this possible? I checked all my 3rd party apps I installed on my own and they don't have a setting to manage this.
Does one app of Darky's Configurator do this?
Well Darky can answer question best .
Me i blame the rom change the rom .
jje
Now i flashed Darkys 9.5 with wipe again.I will watch the battery drain and I will notify you about the result.
//edit
Now I go asleep and I will report tomorrow if the flash was successfull. But I got one question left:
By accident I saw in the wireless setting window that my phone scans every 5 seconds for new devices, even if its connected to my own router. (If the phone goes to standby the WLAN does not scan cause of my settings). But why das it scan every 5 or 6 seconds, even if it's connected to my own device?? Is it possible to increment the scan time?
Good morning guys,
here is my update:
I think the reflash worked. Last night my phone uses 10% battery with wifi and data transfer on, gps and bluetooth off. I think this is a good value.
By using the flightmode the next times I will save some more
Now there is the question left regarding the number of wifi scanns. (see the post above). Is it modifiable ?

If you don't mind me asking: what modem do you use? And how long does your battery usually last for?
Thanks

Did you recalibrate your battery after upgrading to Darky's 9.5?
It is recommended that u recalibrate your battery when you flash a new ROM.
You shoukd recalibrate your battery, i.e. drain it, turn off your phone and fully charge it, completely drain it (use it heavily). Then charge it again and voila, recalibrated!
Also, I find that after flashing a new ROM the battery drains really quick the first 2 times I charge it, before actually working as it should. So it's not that strange that your phones battery was dead in the morning. But I think this also has to do with recalibrating the battery.
Darkys v9.5 has a battery life of 3-4 days for me (not heavy usage) so it should be better after recalibrating your battery!

I have an issue I'd like to debug, but I need some information to help myself:
I charge my SGS (JM1) in the evening, when it's 100% full I disconnect the charger and go to bed (23:30), phone switches to airplane mode at 24:00. When I get up 8h after, my phone is off and has absolutely no battery left.
This happens every now and then, IMHO there's no app causing this (haven't installed anything lately). I can't reproduce the issue.
How would I best debug this and try to find out what's causing the battery drain?
Can I still read the battery log after a restart?

Thank you so far.
I looked at the battery usage stats and saw that bluetooth was enabled for more than 7 hours (although it was disconnected). That IMHO shouldn't have completely drained the battery though...
I am seeing the same problem recently; the battery drains out really quickly in no time even when there are no major apps running. Even the battery usage menu shows nothing major. During this time I have noticed that the phone gets really hot and the battery indicator app shows that the battery temperature as b/w 40-50 C (its around 25-35 C when there is no issue). During this time I can't even make calls or send/receive SMS!!! Seems that it just cannot get a network signal.
There were no such issues for the last couple of months. I can't imagine an app directly or indirectly causing this.
If an app keep the phone awake all.the time and use wifi/Bluetooth/gps it will drain the phone fast.
The only solution is to find out where the flaw is.
Personal i would backup the phone and do a complete wipe/ reset of the phone so it will be clean and like new. Then i would test to se if it drain the battery.
If it does then it is broken and need a.repair. Else i would start to intake the apps i need, but looking close what they do.

Ex-act-ly the same for me!
I will disable all self-installed apps via pm disable and see what happens.
I'll then report back...
Have you installed any lagfixes recently? When I had voodoo lagfix on jg4 I would get at best 8 hours of stand by time. As soon as I flashed jpm I get 1% drain per hour
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I have not installed any lagfixes, my phone is on stock JG4 firmware. The battery life is otherwise very good, only at times (very random) the battery starts draining from 100% to 0% in a matter of few hours.I use System panel to check if there is any app that is causing this, but it does not indicate anything like that.
The only thing that I can think of is that the phone for some reason looses network (I can't make a call and send/receive sms during this time) and keeps trying to reconnect without success and hence drains out the battery. Once I reboot the phone everything becomes fine and the battery usage becomes normal. Is there any way to find out that the phone is trying to connect to the mobile network and this is causing the battery to drain out?
Neither do I, never used any lagfix so far, I'm on stock JM1.

Gnarf, it just happend again. Before going to work it was all normal, now it's frozen.
I connected it to my computer, but WinXP recognized it as an unknown device.
ADB doesn't work, else I had pulled the logfiles.
maybe u should consider upgrading to JM7 or JM9. and before installing apps do a full reset and cache wipe.

I'm waiting for CM 6.1 to sort it all out, given that "FroYo by Samsung" still isn't what I expected it to be - at least judging from the betas.
Hello XDAers, I am using "Doc's XWJS5_Wipe v9_6 ROM, with a JP9_MultiCSC CSC, using hardcore's kernel, coupled with a JPY modem." (from romkitchen.org) and the battery is going down like 5% per hour on standby (with no WIFI, Data network such as G, 3G or H, GPS or even bluetooth), THIS IS MADNESS! If I use the internet via data network I doubt it will last 2 hours!
My installation method is the following:
-> Run a batch backup with Titanium Backup and save all apps / data.
--> Go into recovery and "install .zip from SD Card" (I always install a version with WIPE)
---> Boot the system up, install Go Launcher Ex, Titanium Backup and restore backups I have made.
After that, I have also noticed that lately, Go Launcher Ex is always reloading (but might be some installation bug or w/e)
Thanks in advance for any kind of help anyone is able to provide!

try using the jpe modem?
I'm using the past version of the rom kitchen with xwjs3 and the default kernel and csc and my battery is just fine...
As far as I know JPE is one of the best modems with really good battery consumption (I think it is better that JPY)
edit: you should also use a static wallpaper

Hmmm I have a static wallpaper and the reason I don't use the JPE modem is that my reception is really really poor with that one. Thing that makes this even more weird is that when I was still using XXJPY I'm pretty sure the battery wasn't this bad.
Is anyone also having battery problems with this XXJS5 rom?
Checked battery usage history via spare parts for any unusually high drain?
Read the battery FAQs .
But basics are drain battery wipe battery stats recharge battery bump charge battery a number of times .
Turn off unwanted apps and connections .
I use JPY and do not have big battery drain .

I'm running the same as you (JS5, Hardcore kernel,JPY m.m) and i don't see any problems with my battery (30% a day). Maybe try and reflash the rom with full battery?
No problem for me on JS5 with stock kernel. Especially in idle it's very satisfying.

Aww, I already read the FAQ yesterday and did all I could. Installed Spare Parts, checked the usage, used that script to fix the media scan bug etc etc.
Also flashed a completly fresh ROM and the battery usage is the same, dropping quite fast with no Data Network, Wifi, bluetooth, brightness on minimum and so on.
Thanks everyone for the tips, but noone of them were new to me.
Thanks you again.

I'm in exactly the same boat, been looking into it for a few weeks now.
If I find a solution I'll let you know
Just out of curiosity, you say you disable the data network - are you using a widget/app to do this? When I go Settings > Wireless > Mobile Networks and disable "Use packet data" I find the drain almost disappears!
Did you delete the thumbnail databases? Go into sgs tools, apply script and select delete thumbnail db. It's that or one of your app restores is corrupt.

i am having a similar problem and id appreciate some help and advice.
i recently installed darkys resurrrection edition rom and i have noticed that the battery is draining extremely quickly. i have deleted the thumbnail databases that has been recommended and i have followed the instructions for calibrating the battery from this forum.
in the usage statistics my display takes up most of the usage with around 95-99% despite the fact that i have automatic brightmess levels set and ive been using the screen filter app that came with the rom - this seems an unusually high usage statistic.
i let my battery run out completely as part of the calibration process - when i plugged in my charger and turned the phone on the battery was showing there was 40% even tho it had just ran out which suggests it still isnt calibrated properly despite the fact that i followed the instructions and wiped the battery statistics as suggested.
can anyone advise me on how i might fix this issue and why the display might be showing up as area using up such a high portion of the battery?
Same here. When I flash with JM8 it's look ok. But with JPY, JS3, JS5 anyway I think with froyo 2.2.* I have problem with battery. my display takes up most of the usage with around 90-99%.
So I must to charge my phone every 4-5 h any idea??
can anyone advise me on how i might fix this issue and why the display might be showing up as area using up such a high portion of the battery?
Yes clean install of stock rom wiping everything .
Display = major source of battery usage
stats say that the display has been the most used item .
Note if you install a custom rom then it makes sense to trawl the forum to see how many users have problems before installing .
and use a rom with some support .
jje
Ok I install JM8 re-part. then I install JS5. clear cache etc ok. clean install. It's work very well 3 days, no batter problem. Then same problem again, every 5h (stand-by) I must to charge again again again... Really is there any solution? what can I do fix this problem?
Yesterday I upgraded from official Froyo 2.2 to official Froyo 2.2.1. I made factory reset and restored data and applications WITHOUT system settings. So, everything is the same like in version 2.2. Is there some additional setting on 2.2.1 turned on which was not existed on 2.2 or something else?

easy solution is to install CWM mode and flash any modem.. i use JPE modem which gives me 37-40 hrs battery life with moderate use
hope this helps
Perhaps you have to go through some charging-cycles. I haven't this on my phone. Certanly on my phone runs CyanogenMod 7 without problems.

Slowly then Upgrading the firmware from 2.1 to 2.2 does not of itself generate large extra battery drain ..

My phone running stock 2.2.1 JPY drained like 9% of the battery during a 14 hour "sleep" period, of which like 60% of it was cell standby, and ~20% of was the screen (even though the total screen time was like 4 minutes... stupid power hungry samoled), 12% idle power and 8% wifi. Wifi sleep was set to 'with screen off'. I'm pretty sure the battery indicator was somehow draining power during idle too LOL. So contrary to the '300 hours of standby', I would only be getting around 140 hours. Not much I can do since it's mostly the cell just connecting to towers draining the battery.
With a normal days use I can probably get 2 full days out of it (28 hours 'use' + 8 hours sleep), but I never take the risk and always charge. Of course it depends what I do with it... If I leave the screen on for 5-6 hours of course it's going to drain the battery to 0%, but so far, for the 90% of the time I leave it on sleep mode in my pocket, battery drain is about the same as the stock 2.2 my phone came with.
I managed to flash official Froyo 2.2.1 with I9000ZSJPE modem which have the least battery drain but over night I have same battery drain than before: cca. 60% drop for 7 hours. This never happened on official Froyo 2.2. ...
Maybe the battery needs to be calibrated again.

You need to give more info then that.
What version of rom you using?
Which kernel/version you using?
What apps have you installed?
Do you use wifi/gps?
Did you use search before creating topic?
btw, you dont need to manually type [q] in your title. "[Q]" automatically gets added when you enable the "Is this a question" feature when creating topic.

I have actually noticed a decline in battery life since I flashed to Overcome. In the few days, before I flashed my tab, I could idle the tab for 10 hours and use like 2% battery. After flashing overcome, I cant get no where near that idle time, and I get just under 10% per hour full usage (games or video playback).
I'm using Overcome 1.6.1, no live backgrounds, and somewhere around 85 apps.

Strange, Ive never had a battery issue on any of the builds, even when overclocked. Its got to be something you have installed and running in background.
Go to settings>phone>about>battery use and it will tell you what using most battery. There is also programs like SystemPanel or Taskkiller etc.
If the [Q] wasn't capitalised then you must have tried to title your topic all i capitals so site reversed it, next time title topics properly

I know there are some Gallery issues which drains your battery after using it.
But other then that i think some people expecting to much to fast to see some battery life progress on custom roms.
On the first fresh install i had also a drain.
You have to be aware that after a fresh rom install you have to let the battery settle for a couple off charges.
Yesterday i also took a complete reinstall by the guide provided in the Overcome thread.
I did this because i have some issues with FC's on receiving gmails.
After that fresh install and restoring my apps ect.
I went playing with it, first i did 2 hours of surfing over wifi.
Later playing Black Pegasus Modern Combat for 3 hours.
I started of with 67% battery and didn't have the battery calibrated
So after 5 hours of heavy use the Galaxy Tab battery was empty.
This morning i calibrated the battery.
And after a full cycle charge in 2 hours i didn't touch my Tab at all.
After 4 hours i still have 97% battery left.
It is common that when you take your from the charger it instantly drops to 99% (No worry)
So 2% lost in 4 hours in idle standby with 3g on and syncing XDA app every 15min, Twitter every 5 min, email every 30min, Gmail (Push), weather every hour.
I think it's battery life is great.
Beware the screen of our Tab's are using a great deal of battery life.
Even 50% brightness sucks your battery empty.
I have it set on 30% which is good for use in the evening.
Daytime and sunlight it sucks at 30% but since i never use my Tab outside it will work for me.
Hello!
I cant imagine that the battery is draining because of overcome rom or kernel. Since i flashed it my battery life is suprisingly good, even when overclocked!

I know there is a Gallary 3d issue when using it your battery is draining.
Alterbridge is working on that.
If people followed the flash and battery calibrate guide Overcome should have a nice battery life.
I don't know what apps people are using at the moment but it could be an app which is poorly written.

Dear all,
I just upgraded my tab into overcome 3.1 from my initial GB 2.3 . The reason why i started to discover some issue on my batt usage is within 2hrs it will take off 20% of my batt when i fully charged in the morning.
After which i check on my application - batt use - it show "display" is at 92% on the top and android system is at 2% at the bottom. Whereby when i use GB 2.3 rom, it will show andoid system is at 80~90% and display is at the bottom of 3%.
(Note: i have even set my display to the lowest and set it to Auto mode, some of the un use application i also shut down)
I have started to think should i change back to GB 2.3 or is there any brother outside can advise what should i do to change this situation. Hope someone can help me on this ..... Thanks in advance.

First of all, old ROM had a bug, battery usage was displayed wrong. That is fixed, but they are now working on R2 version of kernel (Reverted lowmemkiller change which may have been blocking kswapd0 from sleeping, resulting in battery leakage).
This last kernel has a new ROM as it's base, so you have to install new ROM first and then full wipe version of kernel.
Good to hear I am not the only one.
Hermes was an awesome rom concerning battery stamina. I hope the guys from Overcome will make this R2 release just as good.

thanks for your quick response.
The latest version of the overcome kernel is pretty good on battery life for me.. the only thing that seems to be wrong is the reported charge level against the battery display level..
Even after calibration its still way off (20%)..

i think you need to perform a "wipe on batt" in cwm maybe can help. Anyway i also discover that my tap below 4 buttons occasionally the light will be blinking on and off during at the standby mode, i belived this also can cus some batt drain off too. Anyway, most of the people are concerning about batt duration especially devise such as non-detachable batt. For me, i use my tap outside most of the time especially during business trip hangging in the train station or airport.... Well, i think we appreciate the overcome team and the rest of you guys to test it out and gain feedback for improment.... cheerss... and Selamat Hari Raya to all muslim people ya.
did you try the tweaks here re: Battery Recalibration and Reconditioning…
http://p1000.teamovercome.net/?page_id=68
and do note that:
battery wipe by itself would not immediately “improve” your battery life. IN FACT, during the first charge cycle after a battery wipe, you might notice a slightly less than optimal battery-life! This is because, the stats have to be rebuilt, which is why after a couple of FULL charge cycles after the battery wipe, when the stats are properly “repopulated”, which is when you’ll see the difference.

yes, i have did that after going through the forum, and today is a second day after the wipe, but i would recognized that if you put the tab in Normal stanby mode, the batt will drop about 1% in about 4hrs since i have started to monitor this morning... well, i will continue to monitor aand post it again. thanks for your advise.
my one on overcome 3.3.1 seems to last at least 1 hr when the battery notification show 0!!!
I have tested my second days after batt wipe, it seem that if we put at standby mode the batt really better then earlier versions, i can notice that last night was 26% at 2.30am and this morning waikup at 7.15am, the batt indicate 24%. (Note : my wifi is on, except BT and GPS is off).
My conclusion for now is that the OC 3.1 batt life is ok and even better when it was in standby mode, however whenever any application for example browsing internet or starting reading news, the batt will start to drain off like 1% every 3min (my estimation point of view).
Hope the OC team can help to improve from here OR the nature of this OC 3.1 is normal on this circumstanses. Cheerssss....
