New spb 3d ui - Captivate Themes and Apps

Anyone tried it yet on a stock captivate 2.2?
What are your impressions?
I used to like their products back in my wm6 days and am curious how they succeeded on android...

Interesting! ... If this takes off like it did when it was released for windows mobile, it should open up a pandora box of theming possibilities in the future.

Well... I went ahead and bought it. Been playing around for an hour and so far I like it. Speed and smoothness is great on my stock 2.2 rom. Let's hope they keep the development going and come up regularly with new features (like more widgets, wallpapers, etc.).

Firstime Android Rom Flasher, Need ROM Advice (Former WinMo Rom Junkie)

Hey guys.
Well, I used to own an HTC Titan, and I would just spend days and days flashing and cooking ROMs like no one's business, but due to cost issues and general irritation with that phone, I switched to a flip phone for a while. Now, I'm back, on Sprint with a CDMA Hero and an unlimited data plan and I want to really see what this thing can do.
Yes, I have the Sprint 2.1 update and I've rooted it successfully. However, for some reason, everything felt a bit sluggish so I factory restored. (Don't know how to explain this, but kinda regretting it when I see all these custom ROMs floating around). Now, I want to get back into ROM flashing.
I wanted to get your guys' opinion on what ROM to use. I do have just one condition though, so hear me out before you tell me which one you love .
Simply put, I love HTC Sense. I've used my friend's Samsung Moment and I could not stand the UI. Sense, to me, has a sort of refinement I've grown to love. (just the way I am, I guess. So yeah, by extension, I don't want or need JiT. I've seen the differences in linpack tests and I'm not impressed enough to ditch Sense for it. Also, does Sense have to be cooked into a ROM by default or can I flash it in as an addon?
So what are your picks? I'd love to have something fast.
Damn another one of these. Go with fresh 2.od with the two updates. or with actually it depends what you like most of the overclocked roms are good but they have one setback when you push menu or the power button to get them to turn on there is a delay. but other than that there good and fast. I like zenexp slide port because it has this thing called mymodes where you can change your themes on the spot. It's hard to describe but it's good

@OP - Fresh 2.1.2. If you want friendstream JsChiSurf has a mod to fresh that makes it work. I am running it now but am having issues with gmail not giving me notifications. Which is a HUGE deal.
Ill throw my rom in there. It has sense and is based off of fresh 2.1.2 but ovetclocked and fully themed. Not for everyone but its there.

I would say give fresh 2.3.3 a try it has the sense ui and lots of cool stuff on it and of course the dancing android bootscreen rocks!!.
Try fresh2.3.3. I've been using it for a week, and it's pretty cool.

Just wanted to say that I used to LOVE Htc Sense as well... I've reverted to AOSP based roms such as PureHero or Cyanogenmod 6.0.0 - reasoning why is that I feel that Sense really bogs down the phone and I feel like my Htc Hero responses a whole lot better and smoother as well.

Currently Using Fresh(awesome rom), IYO what's the best stock Android to try?
I, as a Sprint Tech, am a picky picky SOB when it comes to customizing my phones. I have tried a ton of different ROMS on my Hero since employees cannot upgrade to EVO's, so I've flung myself deep into playing with the cool stuff you guys have here.
Love stock Android, EVEN Love Stock Sense UI. So naturally I have Fresh.
Not really into overclocking, and JIT is a no no as it breaks the Doggcatcher Podcast App. But I do underclock so that my battery last the typical 45-50 hours I currently get out of it using the overclock widget.
Sprint VVM is a must(which I have the apk for just in case, as is the stock HTC weather/clock app. Definately use google's nav/maps app and Places, but the rest of googles built in apps are crap (goggles/gtalk/etc).
I don't theme but I have a stock plain black wallpaper (pitch black no designs or anything) and I do like the HTC sense black taskbar with normal white font and I always patch in that cool HTC Desire battery indicator with the color changing circle and percentage inside...I know...I'm picky, LOL. I'd probably have to find a modded black taskbar to get rid of the ugly gray one that comes with stock Vanilla Android, but what can I say, I like simply black and black themes usually add to much extra stuff I can do without.
So...any suggestions??
Yes, I'm hard to put up with as far as this stuff goes, but I know what I want, and being that I'm one step away from creating my own darn ROM at this point because as great as the work is done by you guys already, I find it hard to grab one or two of everyone's stuff and not end up messing up something else...
LOL hey, it's hard being a tech for 16 years in this business and not want complete control over things, haha, plus, I don't mind the challenge, it's what I live for.
Thanks in advance and hey, if my lofty goals are too high, be blunt, be honest, tell me to make my own ROM, whatever, I'm all ears.
Thanks again.
Well im not sure if this is a stock rom..i think it is tho.
But im using FRESH TOAST 2.1 with Darchshizz #4 kernel.
Works great..and i have had no problems what so ever so far. althought FRESH 2.3.3 is an amazing ROM also.
Try Nfinite's stock deodexed rom, it is literally stock but deodexed so you can do whatever you like to it. He also provides zips to 2 circular battery icons in the Zenherofx thread which I love. BTW, fresh toast is an overclock dev rom that isn't nearly as stable as any of these.

oops should have clarified, wanting stock vanilla android (like Nexus One or as close to) for Hero, I have stock Sense UI with the latest Fresh, isn't Nfinite's also sense UI or are the screenshots I'm seeing incorrect? Looks Like sense but I may be viewing the wrong ones.
Thanks for the input.
Lol I though you meant you did want Sense (stock), in that case, you should try out Darchdroid or sCrOm, Darch is super fast and stable and sCrOm is also aosp but has several built-in theme choices. Check these out in the Android Development section.

how ironic!
I know right, meh, I likes what I likes. I do a lot of ROM hopping, so think the best of both worlds at a pretty much even ground 0 with not much flair is kinda cool.
Oh cool note, I took apart an Epic 4G 2 months ago, that screen is Sharp as a tack. Wish I could port that bad boy into an EVO, not that the EVO screen is bad either but if the connections from Samsung on both screens were the same (Where HTC was getting their screens from until they had to switch over to Sony to keep up with the demand) and the size was 4.3 (think Samsung EPIC's at 4 straight) it would be a cool Mod to do. Then again, not sure if the board has the right drivers from the hummingbird chip versus the Qualcomm Snapdragon to properly run it but that'd be a fun DIY'er if the sizes were matched.

[Q] Switch to Captivate?

Hi all I just joined this site. I've had an iPhone 4 for about a month, and I've had a iPod Touch 1G, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS before that. The point is, I'm getting TIRED of iOS lol. There is no customization unless you jailbreak. Should I try to sell the iPhone 4 on eBay and get a Captivate or should I stay with the iPhone 4. Please, unbiased opinions only. Thanks guys
Both of them are good phones. Its a HUGE dose of personal preference.
That said, i much prefer my Captivate to the first gen iPhone i had or the 3GS my dad has.
Had i not gotten the Captivate, i probably would gotten a iPhone 4. To be honest, i still almost pulled the trigger on one.

I have never had an iPhone so I can't say that you would be better off with the Captivate. The Captivate is a great phone that has its issues, which right now most of the issues can be fixed if you are mildly smart with a computer. My wife who has no idea about that stuff or what phones can do loves her phone. I talked her out of the iPhone because I was curious about the Android platform.
The pros for me on Android is the open source and what all these smart devs can do. Right now I am running the Vibrant hybrid which is mostly vanilla w/some touchwiz UI mixed in. It is a great balance and with the exception of GPS which for me I don't use has been fast, clean and easy to use. I am also a fan of how easy the phone is to recover. You can do anything to the phone and be able to recover (the exception from what someone has mentioned is pulling the cable out while flashing the phone) which I have not tried so I cannot comment on that.
The phone is very fast and from what I have seen and my short time playing with the IP4 in the store is very comparable, with minor lag on TW 3.0 but like I said it is not getting to the point where you don't need to run that. Even if you don't change the ROM and keep TW it was good and I was happy with it. You may run different launchers to bypass that as well.
Just check it out in the store and do your own tests between the two. That is what I did to make my decision. Hope this helps a little bit.
Thanks for the replies guys. I am very familiar with jailbreak iPhones/ Unlocking them. Is rooting Android devices easy? And in a basic explanation, how would one put themes or mods on one. And also, all my music is on iTunes. Is there like an app that I sync music to Android. I really want to try out Android lol. It looks so much better with all of the customizations.

You wont need root to use a different launcher (change what the homescreens look and act like). Many homescreen replacements are just apps on the market. From there you can swap icons, docks, etc.
There is a one click root in the android dev. section if/when you need it.

had an experince with both Captivate and iphone 4
I am to say that iPhone 4 is still the same iOS and I got bored with it in a couple of days
Now I've been using Captivate for a month and Android still does impress me
I have a 64 GB Touch for my music and what apps aren't there for Android. The only edge IMHO that the iPhone has over the cappy is GAMES. There just aren't that many good ones for Android VS the Apple App Store. I hate having to carry both devices in my pocket.
I had an iphone 4 since day one and it is a great phone, but very limited due to the restraints Apple puts on it. My friends told me to check out the Android phones, luckily the Captivate came out before my 30 days with the iphone so I switched, after comparing both phones at the store for like 2 hours lol
I was very hesitant at first and I thought maybe I made the wrong choice and should go back to the iphone, but after a week I saw the light and I was so glad I got an Android phone lol. The Captivate is an amazing phone!! Customizable in so many ways and it comes with swype!! The Android OS has to improve still on somethings, but it has been around for much less time than iOS and it is catching up and leaving it behind very quickly. The only things that really annoy me at the moment are the lack of push notifications like on the blackberry and iphone for facebook and the email client loads pretty damn slow if it's not a gmail email.
I can't wait for Froyo to come out for this phone!!!

I can help solve the facebook notifications issue. Install BLOO. It's no longer in development, but the 1.5 beta version is pretty solid and works great for notifications and facebook chat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=679556&highlight=Bloo I've been using it for months.

Come to the dark side.
Honestly, I loved my iphone. If you want something new, captivate is going to be both strange and familiar, and strangely familiar. Yet if you like you iphone 4.. Flame suit on, stick with it until the dual cores come out, don't bother swapping to a similar gen phone.

[Q] putting stock google rom on my galaxy

Hey, this is my first time posting, I've been browsing a bit since I got my galaxy. I cant really find an answer to what I'm looking for.
I'm not a big fan of samsung's UI on my galaxy, I'd much prefer the Android 2.1 stock that comes on the nexus one... no fancy stuff. Just basic... How would I go abouts doing this? I'm totally new to this, I know I'd have to root my device, after that I'm lost.
Thanks A lot!
Some guys have created a stock Android ROM for the SGS, but it's not fully functional, no camera and no video.
Android can run on many devices (even iPhone and Palm) but the problem are the drivers. If there's no driver, you'll find yourself without camera, wifi, GPS or whatever, and possibly the battery use will be greater.
Yep, there was a vanilla rom but nothing worked, pointless for everyday use.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
So what would be your recommendation for a rom? seeing as they're are so many out there.
there are a couple of ROMS in the dev section without the touchwiz launcher
example:
[ROM]Rombie v2a -*I9000XXJPH*- Themed|no TouchWiz|Pre-Rooted|
personally i have never used one so i can't give any feedback on the matter. if you dont want to mess around too much you could always use a launcher like ADWlauncher or LauncherPro, these basically reskin the home screens to a more likeable layout (by many), there is even a home replacement called launcher2 i think, which looks very basic.
I'm looking for something similar. I'm already rooted, unlocked and running ADW, but I just can't cope with Samsung's stock phone and sms apps. They're truly bloody awful.
all i can say is: wait for http://www.cyanogenmod.com/ ...
it's great and it can not take very long any more (i hope)

I don't mind the dialer so much. but the rest of touchwiz and the widgets is a waste of space..

Where have all the ROMs gone.....

Not to get on a rant here guys, but I came from Win mo and those guys really work it over there......
Roms galore of every size and shape. I kinda expected that from this really open platform.
No new looks , no new feel.
Wassup, are we waiting for things to shake loose or what.
Must every one roll their own?
Just asking......

Where is your rom?
Have you read anything on this forum?
And fyi, you can dl launchers and home screens to change looks without a rom right from app store. Search = friend
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Also, I doubt much ROM development will happen (except for a few champions of the people, like DG) until the Samsung official Android 2.2 comes out, and more importantly, the source code for that 2.2 version is released.
But to be honest, with a piece of hardware this capable, even the 2.1 ROMs are pretty sweet. That and other projects are currently ongoing. Take for example the Vodoo project, which basically has entirely scrapped the default filesystem, and gone with EXT2. And will soon be coming with other tweaks and options for the awesome SAMOLED screen in our phones. Those aren't exactly simple bits of code being whipped up.
Yes, I come from the WinMo side of XDA as well, but around here, it's quality not quantity that counts.
Yikes.

Everyone is so mean to the OP. He cant help it he is sofa king we tar did.
It's actually understandable why the OP is asking. I too spent a lot of time with WinMo and was used to having 10+ ROMs available. But I quickly realized that WinMo NEEDed modified ROMs just to give it functionality and performance. When I got my HTC Touch HD I thought I had the pinnacle of mobile phone technology, but yet I was still always trying new ROMS because I wasn't satisfied with the performance and functionality.
This Captivate is my first Android phone and from what I can tell we don't actually NEED a ROM to make the phone awesome.
WinMo needed ROMs to be a good experience, hence there was a lot of people focused on that aspect of development.
Android, and especially our awesome phone, doesn't need a new ROM to be a good experience so most of the genius developers are able to focus on other projects like various applications rather than just simply trying to get our phones to function.
WinMo required lots of hacking and ROMs to get the same functionality that our phone has by simply installing a new widget or app.
So to the OP, if you ever check back, you don't see a ton of ROMs because frankly they're not required. Welcome to Android! It's a much smoother and satisfying experience than your previous WinMo experience. I can say that because I was just like you just a couple months ago.

Yeah, I don't doubt that there WILL be more ROMs. Especially with the scrabble to get Froyo before Samsung releases it. This is a new phone after all. I just know that with my old WinMo phones the first thing I would do with them is feel unsatisfied and attempt to install some hacked ROM to feel a little less satisfied.
With this phone I'm just happy right out of the box. Of course I don't use the GPS so maybe if I did I'd grumble a bit. But otherwise I think this phone is just incredible.
