[Q] Missing intergrated SIP client in JVK - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just made the move from the CyanogenMod 7 that was OK and had all the Gingerbread features included including integrated SIP support that work perfectly with my VOIP.MS account. After reading what people in the forums were saying about JVK I made a move over to a custom JVK rom and found it much more stable and complete vs CM7. I would like to know if it’s possible to add back the features that Samsung removed from gingerbread like the integrated SIP client?

If you want to enable sip for jvk you can put the attached file in "system\etc\permissions\", then reboot phone and create accounts in settings/call settings.
Also, you can modify framework-res.apk to enable sip over 3g by editing "res\values\bools.xml" and setting "config_sip_wifi_only" to false. Good luck.

No such file here, not even a "values" folder in "res". Did a find and grep search, still nothing.
SIP working on wi-fi ok.

You have to decompile framework-res.apk using apk manager, then you'll find the xml you need to modify.

Could this work also with SGS2 (KE2)?

Yes, it should work. You should deodex your rom first, and modify framework-res.

Mhh, put in the missing xml file and voip is working on the SGS2.
My only problem is that callers are reporting very low speak volume from my side.
Does anybody know how to increase the microphone level a bit for this case?
Oh well, just mentioned that now Android phone app will crash after taking a voip call. Seems the implementation from sammy is buggy...
I am currently on KE2.
Dan

I've looked in the deassambled s2 Phone.apk and Samsung seems to has modified some details in the Phone app, but the main and the most part is there.
Just waiting for my S2 to check if these crashes are related with removing some piece of SIP relateing code from PhoneApp.java

I have tried, using the "File Expert" App to copy the file into \system\etc\permissions. but the problem is, it does not arrive in the folder. i guess it's because of the only read permissions for "permissions" folder.
so what's the way to copy a file into this folder? the device is rooted. (but i'm new with root on android...)

When I'm connected to WiFi and try to make a call, my cell phone simply ask me if I want to make cell phone call or internet call.
As I can remember, to activate this function you have to go to settings/call setting/internet call setting (this is the last option on the bottom) and than in "Use Internet calling" change to "Ask for each call"
so, you can modify framework-res.apk to enable sip over 3g by editing "res\values\bools.xml" and setting "config_sip_wifi_only" to false.

Yes, calling using wifi works. But i also want to activate it in G3.
Sorry for asking so silly, but HOW can i do exactly what is written?
If i go to /system/framework/framework-res.apk in Root Explorer, and select it, i have only the chooice to "install" or "view" the package. No way to edit something inside the apk!
as an alternative attemp i have tried so simply copy an alternated version of framework-res.apk on it's place. but this ended still while copying in problematic messages and i needed to restore my phone from cwm backup... (the alternate version i took out of the first download link out of this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14584886&postcount=142)

Enabling Facebook Contact Sync In CM10/AOSP ROMs

Many users are frustrated by 4.0.3+ AOSP ROMs, as from Android ICS & JB AOSP ROMs there is no Facebook Contacts SYNC.
Well after much drooling and browsing I finally found a way to enable this.:victory:
As stated on website --> http://niranjanthilak.com/facebook-sync-for-android-ics-devices/
and on --> http://www.modaco.com/page/news/_/a...sync-in-ice-cream-sandwich-r140#commentsStart
So, go on at these websites and try youself.:good:
Here, I'm Attaching a modded "ContactsProvider.apk" file that i used, in my CM10 ROM (dated:20121014)
FYI :: First rename file "root//system/app/ContactsProvider.apk" to "ContactsProvider.bak", then delete or rename "root//data/data/com.android.provider.contacts/databases/contacts2.db". Now copy provided "ContactsProvider.apk" to "root//system/app" folder, change permission to 644 and restart the device wait some time for data to sync.
P.S. :; I'm not responsible for data loss, do this on your gut.
Thnkx
If one doesnt wanna share their info with third party apps like HaxSync or FBcontactsync.
There is a great app and info about how to make it by Recognized Developer Deadknight.
Here is the link --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731298
No go for me. How did you modify your apk file? When I baksmali'd mine, I didn't see a res/variables folder at all like was suggested in the original guide on how to do this. Tried adding it, but ended up with the same thing I get from your file - FC's and no contacts
Thanks. I tried both the given file and the steps. No go.

Haha I never tried it but yeah ... You should stay here and wait for OP's reply though .
have you changed the permission to 644 thats -rw-r--r--

Just to be sure .. before doing above step try switching off wifi and data network, and remember to change permission, thn restart
Sent from my GT-I9100G
so:
1) rename original
2) disable all data (airplane mode)
3) delete contacts2.db
4) paste new file in and set permissions.
Sadly, still no good. get FC's in all my apps that use contacts.
You can't just use the modified apk...instead, using the guide and make the necessary changes...the modded apk was not for every ROM...
Ok...to add some details:
For ContactsProvider APK, the file
in question is res/values/arrays.xml
To gain access to this, you must decompile with apktool, not baksmali...
The file provided was for CM10, was it not? I'm running CM10 - the only difference is I'm actually on a Galaxy S3. I've tried with the guide but have met with similar ends.
Only difference is - when I tried manually I did not set my file permissions to 644.
Working like charm mate ...
Thanks a lot ...
I have GT-I9100G
The contacts synchronized smoothly but their pics and birthday aren't synchronized...
ROM : CodeBox 1.6.0 Official
Kernel : Horsepower 3.1.0-Fuss

I thought this one required you to simply delete your contacts2.db instead of modifying it, no?

Thanks guys. I'm going to try this. I've been trying to use the xdaAutoTool wrapper for apktool, and I'm not 100% sure I'm doing it right.
What do I need to do to make sure that it loads the correct framework-res.apk for resource dependencies? I did "install other" and pointed it to the file, but it says "No Framework installed".
If someone could point me to a guide for raw apktool that includes signing the apk (which I understand I must do) and loading a framework dependency, that would work too. Thanks in advance!

[Q] I changed provider and the simtoolkit is not present

I have JB XXLPZ and changed provider today.
From the documentation from the provider I need to set things via the simtoolkit. I don't see the icon and can't find it anywhere?
Also I have the phone rooted and am running the TZ 3.5 kernel.
Any hints or tips?

Reboot. You pushed this file? And did remove previous apk and odex file of it?
P.S. If you really need that app to open do this:
1. Make backup in CWM.
2. Flash stock FW with Odin. And do factory reset. Or try with factory reset first, without flashing JB with Odin again, if that do not help, then flash FW.
3. Use app for your needs
4. Root phone again
5. Install TZ 3.5
6. Restore your backup.

I removed the previous two files and copied the one you supplied in it's place.
Ran sd-mail and was able to find the stk app. Unable to run it though.
Then reboot.
After the reboot the sd-maid app was unable to find the stk application like the original ones.

Ok. Will do that tomorrow.
For now I use the Wifi hotspot functionality from my company phone.
I need to do the following:

Choose Selecteer Mode.
Choose Manueel.
Choose International.
Simcard gets updated.
If you know any app that can do the following then I'm all ears
Thanks and I'll update tomorrow!

Solved!
The provider said that my simcard didn't need to be changed because it was of the newer type. So the sim toolkit was not being able to run because it detected the newer type.
Then I explained that I still had no internet. She talked me throug all the settings and they were fiine. On their website there are numerous samples per phone on how to setup this manually.
Is seems that the settings defer for some phones. They told me I had to type "internet" in the access type section while it had to be "default" what I found out by checking the phone of my wife. She has the same provider.
After changing I had my dataconnection.
Thanks for thinking with me!

[MOD] PRL Write Enabler for Sprint Galaxy S4 [MDC][MDL][MJA]

First off this work is based on Digiblur's PRL Write Enabler from the Sprint Galaxy S3 forum. I simply modified it & packaged it for our Sprint Galaxy S4 devices.
Here is the original S3 post that this was found in... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159054
Also, post #8 below provides additional info.
I tested it by flashing with TWRP and it worked on my stock, rooted S4 with the MDC and MDL releases.
If you're on a stock rooted Rom and not using TWRP, you can just copy the HiddenMenu.apk from inside the zip file downloaded into /system/app/ and overwrite the one that's there. (You'll need a root enabled file browser to do this of course).
Thanks to Unknownforce here is a version for MJA...
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23212708291676468
Enjoy!!
This certainly will save me from having to use CDMA WS to switch like I just did yesterday. 55014 was not working well for me in my market so I switched back to 25014.

You mean the install of the zip?
If so, you can pull the APK out of the zip and replace HiddenMenu.apk in the system folder (make a backup first). You may want to also set the permissions to rw-r-r after replacing the system app. Reboot, then you should be good to go.
@ChadH42,
I know it seems like I'm harping on you but I'm really not..
You need to update the OP on - 1. What is this? 2. What does this do? 3. Why is this in the Development Section.. ?
A good OP leads to less questions.. Development Sections aren't for information. That would be considered a Discussion Thread that belongs in General.
Let's keep the Dev section clean from the start.
My suggestion - Edit the OP on the What's/Why's?/How To's and you won't get posts like mine.
To the OP, updated your title as [WIP], and I suggest you provided additional information so that folks aren't bricking their new devices.
I will check in, if you need anything, let me know.
What this MOD does (in case the OP takes a little while to chime in)
What this MOD does is modifies our ##DATA# (select View) menu to allow for the PRL Write option to appear and function. With this menu option, the user can change their PRL on the fly from the device itself by placing a copy of the desired PRL in the root directory of Internal Storage and name it "test.prl" (no quotes), dial ##DATA# (choose View), tap Write PRL, tap the sub-menu option Write PRL ---wait--- and then the device reboots with the test.prl PRL applied upon reboot. Not every PRL works and sometimes it takes a couple of tries.
A tip for multiple PRL options is to, of course, keep a folder of the PRLs you like and keep them labeled in there. Copy the desired PRL to proper place as needed and just remember to rename the copy to "test.prl". Switch back and forth as you please. I hope this helps clear some confusion and helps some find purpose with the MOD like I have.
For a clear set of instructions that I did not want to just copy verbatim, check the link below. Also, if you are having issues with the zip not installing in CWM, just extract the APK from the ZIP (inside the system/app folder), use Root Explorer or your favorite root-access file explorer to place the APK in the APP folder, apply the proper permissions and reboot.

I just tried this mod with the Force ROM and it did the same thing (blank options). The only thing I can think of is that it works with the odex version of the stock ROM so maybe its a problem with deodex ROMs of which Force is one.

I am actually running it on the Rooted Stock DeOdexed ROM. So I don't think it is an Odex/DeOdex issue...might be a Force ROM issue.
Also, moot point for Force ROM (1.0+) anyway because the PRL Write mod is already included with that.
I'm also having this problem and I'm pretty sure it was working this morning. I haven't flashed anything since then.
edit-- I tried:
1. wiping both cache's
2. killing background process "OIThiddenmenu"
neither fixed it.
I reinstalled the stock odex ROM and flashed this again and it worked.
Just an FYI, OP, I get Error Status 6 when trying to flash this via recovery, which indicates one of two things. Either the format of the file is incorrect or there is a syntax error. The syntax looks fine, but opening in basic Notepad shouldn't "look pretty" like it currently does. So it's likely it was edited with a non-Unix-compatible text editor like Notepad or MS-Word...
To make modifications to an updater-script (or just about any Android/Linux files like this) you need something like Notepad++ or gVim.
Anyways, I did a quick test with this, and it does in fact not work on my ROM as it is, but I see why it's failing, but I don't know what exactly it's trying to reference yet. (It fails with an id number instead of a name, so I'll have to de-compile some things to find it.)
I'm not sure it's a ROM issue or a MOD issue yet. (meaning it might have to be updated for each custom ROM, depending on how they are configured) But I'll track it down and update when I can.

I think TWRP can read the non Unix type characters, which is why it works on a different recovery.
I'm hoping it's a mod issue and I can just modify the mod to work universally regardless of the rom. But we'll see.

[TWEAK] Remove Brightness Slider from Notification Panel

This tweak worked on the stock T-Mobile OCG ROM, and will likely work for other stock based ROM's.
I used the "SQLite Editor" app to do this tweak. Other SQLite editors should work as well.
1.Launch SQLite Editor and select "Files" and drill down into /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
2. Select "system"
3. Press the "+" option
4. Leave _id set to auto
5. Add in the name field "notification_panel_brightness_adjustment" (without the quotes)
6. Add in the value field "0" (number zero without the quotes)
7. Press save
8. Exit and reboot
If you decide at a later time you want it back, just change the value of that field to a 1 then save and reboot.

Nice find! However since I actually use the brightness slider daily, I won't be getting rid of it. Now we just need to find a way to get rid of the S Finder/Quick Connect from the notification panel.

Yes please
And if you could possibly look into having 6 toggles that would be greatly appreciated. Using your rom got it before the pull lol

haha, yea im not a fan of having a ton of threads all with mostly the same thing. ill see what i can do about the toggles, i can for sure get rid of the other stuff.
You can also simply install Lux and turn off its persistent notification
Could this be used to do other tweaks like remove icons/clock from the status bar?

That'd be awesome. I was looking through the xml but was having trouble finding an obvious section to cut for this bar--res/layout/status_bar_expanded doesn't even appear to contain a reference to the sfinder_qconnect stuff.

Thanks, I had been looking at another tutorial involving cutting a few lines from status_bar_extended, but it hadn't occurred to me simply to change its size to zero in dimens. >.<
This doesn't seem worth a whole new thread, so I've attached a systemui whose only change is the removal of the sfinder/qconnect bar. I believe you also have to delete the arm64/SystemUI.odex.art.xz file for things to work properly.
Edit for basic instructions:
Use a root-enabled file manager or console to replace /system/priv-app/SystemUI/SystemUI.apk with the attached file, and delete /system/priv-app/SystemUI/arm64/SystemUI.odex.art.xz. Make sure the permissions of the new SystemUI.apk are rw-r--r-- (chmod 644 /system/priv-app/SystemUI/SystemUI.apk at the console). Reboot and enjoy.
Caveat: you may not be able to swipe away notifications from within the region previously taken up by the sfinder/qconnect bar.
Great! Can also be done via adb:
Code:
adb shell settings put system notification_panel_brightness_adjustment 0

You either need a root-enabled file manager or su at a console, and replace /system/priv-app/SystemUI/SystemUI.apk with the file I provided, and delete /system/priv-app/SystemUI/arm64/SystemUI.odex.art.xz, then reboot. As always, I strongly recommend making backups and of course, I can provide no guarantees, yadda yadda.

Awesome! Works perfectly! Thanks so much. Just a reminder to relative noobs like myself to change the appropriate permissions in the new SystemUI file to -rw-r--r--. I forgot to do so first try, and lost both the status bar and the lockscreen. Fixed now, but had a moment or two of panic...

You can't record calls in Europe as it is illegal, maybe try changing region to India or somewhere where it is legal. There are apps out there too

Does it have Google Dailer?
Does this option not exists? http://www.gadgetdetail.com/coloros-6-how-to-setup-call-recording/
Could you plz check?
Thnx
Call recording is not present in EU ROM. But I'm pretty sure that it will be there as soon as custom stock ROM is out as I think it's simply a property to enable in some file (needs root).
In case you're still searching, there's a solution for rooted EU roms; I tested it successfully:

It doesn't have Google Dialer. And you can't install it unless you're rooted, because there is no Google Dialer Framework installed. If you are rooted, there is a magisk module that installs Google Dialer Framework, and after that you can install google dialer (but that doesn't have call recording).

How did you do that? I followed the whole procedure, but I still can't have call recording.
Maybe I missed something, or I'm not checking in the right place to activate it.
Can you please help me?

I just followed the instructions. If you're rooted, just go to /system/etc/oppoRegionMarkFeatures/ in your file manager. You should see a bunch .xml files with country codes, which apparently turn on/off certain features, but for call recording they're probably not relevant. I copied com.oppo.region mark.EUEX.xml first somewhere safe and opened it with an editor. There's a line that says feature name="oppo.phone.nodisplayrecord". I deleted the line, saved and rebooted. This activates the hidden option. Then go to settings, search for "call recording". You should see "System Apps > Call > Call recording" Activate the option "record all calls" (or "record unknown numbers"), call some number. You should see a green "recording standby" icon in the call wait screen and text changes automatically once it starts recording. Recordings are listed in the "Recorder" app. Voila. Ping me later and I can post the screenshots of the settings screens.

I am using this https://nllapps.com/apps/acr/ and it works. It just has one bummer and that it doesn't save the number of the person you called. So, you have to assign it after a call.

But didn't you replaced the original one with the edited one?
I did it (with TWRP File Manager).
Did you only edited it, without replacing it?
What I did is:
1. Copy the EUEX XML to "internal memory".
2. Edit the copied file removing the whole line (from < to >) and without leaving the blank line.
3. Reboot to TWRP.
4. From TWRP File Manager copy the edited file to origin folder, overwriting the stock XML).
5. Reboot to OS.
As you can see in the screenshot, no more "nodisplayrecord" line and no blank line before "blacklist"line.

Yes. I browsed to the directory and edited the XML file directly using my file manager (I use X-plore but any rooted app should also do).
The copy I made was not for offline-editing purposes, it's a habitual backup just in case
Try editing the file directly. If it doesn't work, you might wanna check if the line is in the other XML files in the same folder. Maybe there is a country-specific XML file.
ps: I'm on 11_A.08, EU version.
