I posted a new version of TetherGPS and TetherGPS Lite (1.1.3) to the market this morning that should now work with the G-Tablet. If anyone runs into problems with it please shoot me an e-mail.
Thanks!

Do you have mock locations enabled? It's under settings>applications>development>enable mock locations.
New version works on Vegan 5.1.1 for me.

what did you do to get it work I am running vegan rom 5.1? I have installed the new version and turned both the widgets on and properly tethered to my phone. Google maps still say unable to locate me? Yes I did allow for mock locations

Which tether app are you using? I've heard of people having problems with Barnacle. You may have to manually specify the broadcast IP in the TetherGPS app. You can either set it to the exact IP of the tablet, or put 255 in the variable part of your IP address (for /24 subnets). So if your tablet's IP is 192.168.1.x, set the broadcast IP to 192.168.1.255.
Edit: BTW, you can see what IP the server is trying to transmit on by checking the notification bar on the server. If an IP doesn't appear, then the phone probably isn't getting GPS signal or GPS isn't enabled.
I'm running TnT Lite 4.4.0 and it works well although every now and then I will get a TetherGPS FC several minutes after exiting the app.
You are running it on both devices correct? Server on your android phone and client on your gtablet...

It doesn't work with the iphone. You need to have an Android phone. The server runs on the Android phone and the client runs on the Android tablet.
TetherGPS works great on my G-Tablet with TnT Lite v4.4.0 when I connect to my phone using Barnacle Wifi Tether. I haven't been able to get it to work using my home network though.
This is a great application. Thanks!
I've played with this app for a couple weeks. And I just can't get it to work...
Any ideas?
Gtab vegan5 beta1
moto Droid CM7rc4
I've checked the tabs IP and it was within range, I even set the server to broadcast to the gtabs specific IP an still no luck. Mock locations enabled, GPS enabled on both devices.
Tried on home wifi and through wifi tether.

Strange...I just run WiFi tether on my Droid and then run TetherGPS on both my Droid (in server mode) and my gtablet (in client mode). Works.

I've just purchased a Nook Color and am waiting for it to arrive. My current Droid REFUSES to join WPA/AES wireless networks, which is what I unfortunately run at home. I've no idea if this a hardware issue with my Droid...so...have any of you had the Nook Color connect and use a WPA/AES network?
PS : No, I can't simply switch my wifi to WPA2 or TKIP. I have a wireless print server that will only use WPA/AES or WEP.

From what I understand the Nook has the same issue, if you are using a Droid X the nook uses almost the same Chipset.
I have the original Droid....I've no idea if the Droid X has the same wifi issue.

if your router supports it change your security settings to wpa/wpa2(it will use both types of security at the same time)
thats what i use on my router and my nook connects fine
if i run into a wpa only network ill test it and report back

I just went through this issue when setting up an old linksys wrt54xxx modem (..the small 4x4" model) for someone last night.
After some trial and error I found that if I set it to WPA/AES only (NOT auto - tkip/aes... the setting was buried pretty deep in the UI) and set it to G-only wifi mode (..not auto b/g/n) I was able to connect flawlessly with both my nook color and my droid x when both couldn't see the network with default settings.
It seems that it is the "auto" features in the router that cause the problem.

Actually it's the NC that the problem. At home, every device (WinXP SP3, macbook, ipod touch, HP DV1000 laptop and a whole host of other wifi devices) works with 802.11n but the NC. I had to set my wifi to 802.11g ONLY.
I have installed TetherGPS to both my NC and DX. I start server on the DX and client on NC. NC tells me that it isn't receiving location. How do I get this to work? My NC is running CM7 nightly 29. Will be going to Rc4 once I can take the time to get to comp nook says not enough space left on SD

Are both devices connected to the same network? Does the server show an IP in the notification bar? Once it starts broadcasting location it will show "Broadcast IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx". Make sure GPS is enabled and the phone has a clear view of the sky, or is near a window.
I haven't tried it since updating my DX to gingerbread, but before I was using wireless tether for root and TetherGPS simultaneously. With phone in window. Phones GPS was functioning perfectly.
Edit: I just tried it and Automatic Broadcast IP was selected still not reciecing location on NC. In selected it but lost as to what to enter for an IP address to broadcast

Is the Nook tethered via WiFi to the DX or connected to the same WIFI network? If not then TetherGPS won't work, you must make sure that the tether is working properly before attempting to start the server or client.
Be sure to check the notification bar on the server. If it just says "TetherGPS Server" and doesn't list a broadcast IP, then your phone's GPS probably isn't getting signal.
I've searched many treads and also put up a few posting in the past.
I know Anyconnect is not available for the Xoom/Andriod OS at this time, but has anyone found an "easy" way to connect to a Cisco VPN system.
I was able to install certs as needed and tried a few workarounds, but no luck.
This is the a must have for me and I know a lot of others.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I was able to get my Cisco VPN to connect by rooting and using VPN Connections.

Couple of questions
You mentioned rooted? Did you change kernel also?
3g or Wifi model? (I have Wifi)
When you say VPN connections, do you mean a app or the stock connect in the system?
Did you tranfer your certificates to the Xoom?
Sorry for all the questions. I've had a Gtab since November and just picked up a Xoom after holding out for a month.
Glad I made the purchase.....

I should mention the Cisco VPN I'm connecting to only uses grou passwords
I'm using the 3G model, and it is rooted with the tun.ko module available from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972550&highlight=tun.ko.
VPN Connections is a root app available from http://code.google.com/p/get-a-robot-vpnc/

The problem is, that the VPN Connection with anyconnect is totally unstable and with all the other Cisco VPN-concentrators its the same problem. That is the result of how android is programmed. i Tried to get a stable cisco-vpn connection on a nexus one, nexus s and optimus speed. All failed. You had to copy a tun.ko file, specific for the phone. then you where able to connect to a normal cisco vpn concentrator (not anyconnect concentrator). but that worked only once. every time after that, the vpn connection was so unstable i could only get it up for some secounds. thats why i bought an iPhone as smartphone and use the xoom as tethering.
what i want to try the next few days is, connect with the free iOS Any-Connect / VPN protocoll on the iPhone and then tether my xoom to use the same connection there. dunno if it will work

So far, that is the only way I can get a "connection." However, there does not appear to be any traffic going across the connection and VPN Connections hangs when I try to disconnect. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I've also had no luck connecting to my work VPN. We use Cisco Anyconnect and SecurID. The Cisco rep has been saying a client is in the works but nothing so far. This is the only think keeping the Xoom from really being a laptop replacement for me. Sucks.
Agreed!

I can't connect either but my setup is a little different. I log into Cisco SSL VPN Service through the website, which requires UN/PW/Group. When connecting for the 1st time on a device, it downloads and installs the VPN client. Through this method it performs:1)Platform Detection; 2)ActiveX; 3)Java Detection; 4)Sun Java; 5)Download & 6)Connected. But when signing in using my Xoom it hangs at step 5(Download). It displays a link, Linux i386, but it does nothing when clicking on it. Does anyone have this file or know a way around this?
The problem is google wont allow cisco into the kernal. The app is done at Cisco, but google is holding up the show. Cisco also has a new light weight vpn client that is more of an on demand app that will work with Jabber. (which works on xoom, i have it loaded)
What is the name of the light weight app that works on the Xoom?

if you flash the tiamat kernal and install the tun.ko you should be able to use the updated VPNC to connect just fine. i use my SecurID with this same setup and tunnel in daily for work. it sure does beat carrying a laptop around.
Also, Office chat is a office communicator app if your work uses it. basically i never have to carry a laptop around. I also use evernote. Onenote is great but evernote stores in the cloud and syncs to my phone, laptop, and xoom instantly will no setup necessary. Try it out.
Thanks for the tip Holsum. My Xoom isn't rooted yet but I'll investigate for my NexusOne which is already rooted and I'm very familiar with hacking on it. I'll give your suggestion a try and see if it helps.
When I run the vpn widget and test prerequisites it says that it doesn't have root. I am rooted running the newest tiamat kernel and the superuser app popped up and allows me to grant the app root... any idea why it thinks it doesn't have root?
This always worked great on my D4 before. Not sure what I've done to break it.
D4
Rooted
Eclipse 1.5.2 clean install via safestrap
wifi tether 3.2 beta 2 with device profile set to generic ics wlan0
When I start wifi tether it starts with no errors. About 50% of the time other devices can see the SSID from my phone and 50% of the time they can't and I have to stop and restart wifi tether. Then, when they try to connect, they authenticate just fine but then freeze up at "obtaining IP address..." and never actually obtain an IP and connect.
I've been playing around with all the settings (routing fix, keep alive, wifi driver reload...) but nothing seems to be helping.
Anyone know what I should check? Thanks in advance.
in wifi-teather try setting the device profile to droid bionic and also check routing fix
see if that works for ya
Well hey, that actually worked. Thanks!
(How did you know that would work?)

with the android built-in wifi tethering? when I run it, it's an open network with the WiFi-Security as the SSID, I can connect to it but get no data.

Yep. I turned on portable wifi hotspot. Then went in to "Set up Wi-Fi hotspot" and set my password. I left the other setting as they were:
Network SSID: AndroidAP
Security: WPA2 PSK
Disconnected from my home network on my Nook Color and AndroidAP showed up right away. Connected, typed in my password and everything was good. Verified I had data using both the browser and Play Store.
Which Liquid build are you running? The 01/28 build (which is the running I'm running) has a description of "tether fix".
