[Q] Restore a EngSPL nandroid backup on DangerSPL partitions? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a HTC Dream with EngSPL and CyanogenMod-4.2.15.1
I need more userdata space and I wanted to switch to DangerSPL while keeping all my user data.
Is it possible to do a full nandroid backup, upgrade from EngSPL to DangerSPL and restore the nandroid backup on the resized partitions?

Yes, it's possible to restore, but with DangerSPL you will not have (much?) more space on /data. If you need more space on /data you should try Custom-MTD. A link to the thread can be found in my signature.

nandroid or bart

i cant see to find a specific answer anywhere. what is the difference between nandroid and BART. is one better than the other? will one completely back up the phone AND the ext partition and restore both at once?
nandroid can do both the system backup and ext backup. you just have to choose which on.e
bart backup your system and ext all at once.
you can have only one bart backup but you can have as many nandroid backups as you want.
I choose Bart for hero ROMs since I use only one hero rom and that suites my needs.
I use nandroid for other roms.
tthank you
Can we make this a sticky? Took me forever to find this thread.

So... What does a nandroid backup consist?

I'm running CM 4.2.15.1 and Amon RA's 1.5.2.
So I'm actually curious what is actually backed-up in a nandroid backup?
Are my apps, settings, call logs and smses being backed up?
Will I get all those back if I were to flash CM's v5.0.7 and do a nandriod restore?
What if I were to flash the ROM to other dev's ROMs?
If you use bart it backs up everything.
nandroid (last time I used it, it may have changed) only backs up the rom.
Code:
bart -s name
for backing up
bart -r name
for restoring
bart -d name
to delete (you can have multiple backups)
Will I get all those back if I were to flash CM's v5.0.7 and do a nandriod restore?
Click to collapse
If you flash a rom and do a restore from nandroid / switchrom / bart you will be back to your old rom, restore puts it all back
yea if you do a nandroid backup it will restore all your settings and info
If you use nandroid on CM-5.0.7 remember to create a /system/sd directory since the new rom uses a /sd-ext instead. The nandroid restore in Amon_Ra's latest recovery 1.6.2 (see my signature) can optionally backup your ext partition but only if you have a /system/sd directory. It backs up the following files:
System
Data
Boot
Cache
Recovery
Misc
ext partition (optional)
and verifies each file integrity with a md5sum check.

[Q] Backup ext?

So my daily build is the CM7 nightlies.
I have pretty much all my apps on my ext3 partition. However, if I want to flash another ROM (aside from another nightly) I pretty much have to wipe. Wiping also wipes the ext3 partition.
I do do a nandroid before wiping, and it does back up the ext3 partition, but when I restore it doesn't seem to restore the ext. Also for some reason, after restoring I am unable to install apps at all to the ext3 partition, and I have to format the whole sd card to fat32, then make a ext3 partition again.
I actually kept getting hotboots after restoring a nandroid whenever an app would try to install. This was after I installed dta2sd.
So how can I backup a ROM with info on an ext3 partition, and restore it after wiping the partition.
I guess you're using ROM Manager with its default recovery.
Use AmonRa's recovery.

[Q] A2SD & Flashing New ROM

Hi Guys,
I've posted in a couple of threads but didn't let loose for fear of hijacking it, so putting my question here for the good fellows to respond to if possible.
Basically put I have a ROM installed (Kang-o-rama SP1) and have a 1GB A2SD partition courtesy of DarkTremor.
What I want to know is what process should I go through to flash a new ROM but retain that Ext partition? I'm not sure if this is even possible? Should the wipe wipe absolutely everything and then after flashing the ROM I should rebuild the EXT partition and then use Titanium Backup (or something similar) to restore my apps to that A2SD partition?
Can somebody please just tell me what the best process is (even if that means wipe everything, and recreate from scratch each time you flash.
I was under the impression you see that I could wipe everything but retain the actual partition (albeit wiped) to restore apps to after a new Flash?
Thanks in advance
Probably your best bet is to use Titanium. When you restore, look for the setting in the app that mentions something to the effect of attempting to integrate your backup into a different ROM (Sorry don't have app in front of me).
You can also use ADB to pull your sd-ext to your computer. Push it back when you have the new ROM set up with ext
adb pull /sd-ext c:\whateveryouwanttocallit
I use Amon Ra's Recovery but I think Clockwork Mod has an option to backup just your sd-ext.

nandroid restore after filesystem changes

If I have a nandroid backup of cm11 and then went to try out cm12.1 which requires a bigger system partition, would all my partitions get destroyed?
If so, how do I restore the nandroid backup? Would I have to copy it off to a computer, get a rom that boots, copy it back, then boot into recovery to restore?
