[Q] NESOID and SNESOID won't run? Please advise. - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently rooted my old G1 and installed Cyanogen 4.08 (or whatever that gen is) and along with the new 8 gig card have room to install apps. One pair of apps I had pre-rooting and flashing was NESOID and SNESOID which I had to get rid of due to room. Now I reloaded them with the old roms I had and tried to run them and lo and behold they don't run....but they did before!
The software loads and I select a ROM (still zipped as usual but I tried unzipping just in case) but when I hit a ROM it goes black for a second then returns to the load screen. Trying all the ROMS gets the same result.
In the task bar i see the icon of NESOID (or SNESOID...I tried both) and it says "NESOID is Running" and if I pull down that screen and hit that it goes back to home screen and stops. No force close or anything. Just nothing.
Any ideas? I tried cachecompress on and off and that's about it. Can't think of what else to do. Is it Cyanogen?
Thanks!
fil

You should try running gingerbread or some of the newer froyo builds with new spl/radio hack to run those emualtors, you'll see about a 30-45% performance boost when playing them imo. I've tried both Sparksmod 1.6.2 and gingerbread cos and both roms ran emulators very well.

I was thinking about this but I was wondering why it worked with the factory build of 1.6 but not the suped up (for the time) Cyanogen build of 1.6? I was thinking of flashing one of the newer builds (I already have the new radio) but was always hesitant. Will gingerbread run on an old hoopty of a phone like the
G1?
Thanks!

You'd e surprised how well gingerbread is running on the OG g1

i have been trying out almost every new releasd build for that rom and its getting better imo, heres the direct download for rom with gaps and themes pre installed..

need an alternative to Cyanogenmod

ok i have had for about 3 or 4 weeks cyanogenmod and it doesnt always pick up my email...if i go into an app while listen to music (like ip cam or even the browser) the music app crashes (just stops and when i load it up again its rest back to where i was when i loaded the music app that time) so i want to change roms
heres the details
network: t-mobile uk (dont know if that makes a difference)
model number : T-Mobile g1
firmwareversion: 1.6
baseband version: 62.50s.20.17u_2.22.19.26i
kernalversion: 2.6.29.6-cm42 shade_at_toxygene ) (the _at_ is actualy the at email symbol but i couldnt post this thread with that there)
mod version: cyanogenmod-4.2.9.1
build number: DRC83
wow thats a lot of digits!
ok so what custom kernal/firmware do you guys recommend? (i know its down to personal taste but i need an alternative, im tired of my phone being so sluggish)
the requirments i have
apps to sd (as easy as possible!)
extra home screens
thats all i really need in a kernal (the ability to go to the next track with the hangup button on my bluetooth headset would be fantastic, but i guess that will never happen )
Thank you very much in advan

Try updating to the latest cyanogen, or try something like Super D, thats supposed ot be quick.
Perhaps upgrade to Cyangenmod version 4.2.14.1? You seem to have missed some versions. An alternative would be, the Super-D versions. For other options: check the ROM-posts, download them and install them. See which one you like the most.
i ran the cm updater and it says no new versions available will look into super d thankyou
the cm updater apears to have gone lazy im following the wiki to update the rom now
also if i try super-d rom i will need to do a full wipe...i renember the term but not the method (stupid brain)
I've tried every rom here and I use TheOfficial. It works great, it rarely forces closes, and it's never crashed. The links are in my signature. If your phone starts to run sluggish, get a task manager see how much free ram you have. That's a problem common to all roms.
Also, posting a question in the Q & A section will get you more responses.

Look fot Titanium Backup in the Market. (Search for root) It will backup all your apps and data, making a full wipe much less inconvient.

Enom's offical is actually faster than cyan & Super-D after doing tests for both. Apps open fast even with a max of 384. Plus enom uses the expo to get more things. I've used theoffical for a long time(since it came out) and think you should try it. However flashing the RC29 is also a good option for you then you can wait for 1.6 and then wait for the infamous rumor to go airborne to give you 2.1 .
ok this is wierd
held down home+back when turning on to do a factory reset
i updated to 4.2.14.1
i used the factory reset in recovery
i booted up (took ages)
cmupdater immediatly said there was an update (4.2.9.1) i think cmupdater might of become senile

It wont find a new version, because the updater thinks that .14 is older than .9 because of the one.
You can change that in the options (or just download the new version in the CM topic here on xda)
Moved as not Android Development.
thank you
i flashed the official (adp version) plus expansion... just looking at themes now
it doesnt look much different (hence the themes lol) but seems a lot faster

4.06 radio and AT&T/Rogers phone incompatibility?

There seems to be a major issue with the 4.06 radio and my phone - every time I have tried to flash it (from both validated .img's and update.zips) my phone becomes extremely unstable afterwards.
It goes into booting loops, hangs at the X, when I get it to boot it crashes while using heavy 3G or WiFi data, reboots when plugged into USB and receiving a call and it becomes almost impossible to get into recovery mode etc, etc.
The only way to get back to a working phone is to revert to stock 4.04. I have tried 5 different times over the last 2 weeks now with the same results every time.
I am starting to wonder if it is a AT&T/Rogers N1 issue or something specific to my device. If it was my device I would think that flashing back to 4.04 would also cause problems but that is not the case. This makes me believe there is there maybe an incompatibility with the leaked Froyo radio.
Appreciate any thoughts/comments.
I'm not having that problem. I flashed Modaco's first FroYo repack with root and the new radio, and things have been fine. To be honest, the only thing I've noticed is that Bluetooth seems to sync a lot faster to the head unit in my car.
Did you do a complete wipe before you installed the update and what applications have you added that may not like the radio?
Edit to add: By the way, you guys have a kick-ass little HTC Magic up there. It may not be a Nexus One, but it more than holds it's own running cyanogen. I have an import that my wife is playing with. I really like it.
Have you tried the 4.6.00.12_7 radio as well ast the 4.6.00.2_2? The 12_7 is working flawlessly for me both on Froyo and on CM 5.0.8-derived ROMs.
I just verified my version - it's definitely the 4.6.00.12_7 Froyo radio firmware.

I tried the 12_7 last night and after flashing it using fastboot, my phone got stuck in a reboot loop. I could get back into fastboot and saw the new radio version on the screen but could not for the life of me get my phone to boot into either the rom or recovery mode - I pulled the battery, took out the SD card etc but nothing worked. This prevented me from flashing a ROM and I could not get into Recovery. After about an hour of trying, I managed to get the 4.04 radio flashed using fastboot and then my phone booted with no problems.
Previously, I tried the various Froyo builds and with no additional apps installed I would still get random roboots when using data via either 3G or WiFi - usually when I try to do something big like downloading/syncing a large file.
This is the story every time I try a 4.06 radio. 4.04 is rock solid.
Have you tried flashing the 4.6 radio via an update.zip as opposed to through fastboot? It's about the only other idea I can think of lol...
Just checked, I flashed the 2_2 last night, not 2_7.
I have flashed the radio via update.zip before and my phone worked but would be unstable. I will have to double check which version I used, could have been 2_2 as well.
codesplice said:
Come to think of it, that's the radio version I'm currently using, and that's where I got mine while I was running his ROM. So yes, flash that zip, flash Kangorama, and you should be square.

This is the same radio image I flashed two days ago and it worked for me quite well for an entire day (light 3G use) and then started crashing the phone when I tried downloading larger files (using the Audible app) via both WiFi and 3G in the evening. Once it started crashing I could not get into recovery until after I pulled my SD card. Once it booted OK without the SD card I put the card back and it booted ok again. It would still crash on heavy data use though.
Maybe try the 12_7 radio from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=692609 ? I'm fairly certain that is the same radio update that I have applied on my AT&T N1.
edit: disregard....

Did you try not running/removing the audible app and see about stability then? What else are you using? Not every app is going to play nice with newer firmware.

The crashes started just after I got the Rom installed.
I did the following:
- Nandriod backup (thank goodness for this!)
- I wiped all as per instructions
- Installed radio, rebooted OK
- Installed ROM (Rodriguesstyle 1.6)
- Booted OK into setup
- Configured my phone - first crash just after entering my gmail ID and the syncing of all the apps from the market started
- Rebooted, configured my phone again - apps installed this time but while configuring ChompSMS the phone rebooted again
- Rebooted, phone came up clean, ran OK all day
- Got home and tried syncing Audible content - phone crashed
- Could not get into recovery or boot the phone normally for almost an hour (pulling battery etc did not help)
- Pulled the SD Card and the phone booted, shut down, put the sd card in again, phone booted OK
- Got a phonecall, phone rebooted
- Got fed up and restored 4.04 radio and stock ROM
- Phone stable since
I was running the following apps:
- Autokiller
- Doubletwist Player
- Audible beta
- Silent Sleep
- ChompSMS 4.2
- Switchpro Widget
- Barcode Scanner
- ADW Launcher
- newsRob
- File manager
- Backgrounds
- Rom Manager

What kernel is the Rodrigessstyle ROM using?
Try Modaco's straight up Froyo repack - it has a stock kernel. I'd get as close to stock Froyo ROM/Radio as possible, see what I have and then go from there.
Also, make sure you're using an updated version of chompsms. I think I heard that reports were that it was not compatible with Froyo, but that it's been updated.

I used the stock kernel. ChompSMS 4.1 and later is compatible and I was using 4.2. I am planning on trying the new Kang-o-rama 0.8b1! (CM-5.0.8+2.6.34 Kernel) rather than Froyo - if only I can get the radio to flash.

Why not start with FroYo - the ROM the radio was meant to work with - before flashing anything else? If it doesn't run then, you have a real problem. otherwise, you have no idea where the problem is.

Point taken. Back to the basics.
I came straight from Rodriguesstyle 1.6 with the included add-on OV/UV kernel to Kang 0.8b1 without any issues. Even got the 720p hack working beautifully
well i am using the new froyo radio with my ATT nexus one, and its been no different than the old radio. no crashes or anything. however, i had NO idea that there were 2 froyo radios. is that what someone just posted on the first page?
I have had a simmilar experienc, but it is NOT froyo related.
I was rooted, on the desire ROM
It was restarting at seemingly random (and frequent) times through the day -
I reflashed to stock 2.1.
During setup, phone rebooted.
Got through sign-in. Installed some apps. Phone rebooted.
Phone was absolutely fine, as long as I didn't touch it. I would use it - browse, etc. Seemed to be fine. Would then reboot. FLashed it up to froyo. Same.
I think it's the bad RAM issue i've seen reports of, but I'm not sure. Sent in for a replacement.
Let's hope that's not OPs issue, though the problem seems to be pointed in that kind of direction. Hope you get your situation resolved under warranty.

wireless tether

Hello I am having an issue with wireless tether 1.6. On any of the sprint 2.1 roms I try it freezes my phone and reboots when I stop tethering. Was wondering if there was a fix I didn't see when I looked around. It works fine until I go to stop. The only Rom I can get it to work is the my touch 3g port.

Sounds like you have bigger problems if the only rom you can get to work is the mytouch port.
When you flash a rom, go into the Wipe menu and wipe everything except battery stats.
If it still doesn't boot repartion the SDcard to Fat ONLY.
If it still doesn't boot, you have some issues somewhere.
I took care of a lot of stupid issues I was having by running the 2.1 RUU and re-rooting and flashing the rom again.

I've been having the same problem. It works just fine until I want to stop using it then it locks my phone, doesnt reboot though. It will sit there locked for 30 minutes if I let it, I have to pull the battery and reboot
There was a market update this morning though, haven't tried it yet with the new version.

Are you running kernel .29?
I'll go even futher...are these kernels SDX kernals?
Edit: And even though it does freeze my phone if i stop it...its still a tether. and i love my phone being over clocked. so if i have to restart my phone instead of stopping the tether, its a small price to pay!
I am running the toast oc kernel. And yes I meant the tether only works on the mt3g. I ran the oc kernel on the 2.1 roms also that's actually when it started. I went from the oc mt3g Rom to aloysius 2.1 oc version and it quit working. So now I'm back on the oc mt3g Rom .

Well i think most ROMS run the .29 kernal while mt3g runs the .65 kernal. Sounds like its the .29 kernal.

Try this one it works like a charm xP.
and of course make sure your rooted
Edit:
Ive had problems in the past with wireless tether for root. this one works like advertised and works wonders no hot phone either
Ok Tyvm ill have to recover and install it then see if it works. And the kernel says .29 on the mt3g Rom so its the same one on both.
What I usually did to solve this was close the app with a task killer and it was ok with me. It's a known issue. However the problem I'm experiencing now is that If I want to change the SSID Name or any setting in the WI-FI app it takes me to a black screen labeled SU Permission? Suggestions anyone? oh and btw no one can see my her0 =/ help!
It works fine for me. I've used it several times and never had it lock up on me when I tried to stop it. I'm running the newest Damage Control 2.09.01 and android-wifi-tether 1.6.

[Q] Which rom- thats the question

Hello everyone.
I am new to the world of flashing android, I used to flash my previous htc windows phones all the time. I'm currently running IceRom, something one of my friends found off here a long while back.
Can anyone recommend a good stable rom that looks nice ? I have been looking over all the newer ones but I think I want something more established.
What tickles your fancy?
Vanilla Android or Sense Based?
Built in Overclock Kernels or Flashing one of the undervolted/OC goodies that are in plentiful abundance?
That will help start to narrow it down
uhhhh..... well i never know what I'm using so it doesnt really matter. The icerom im using now has a lot of glitches its android 2.2 (think?) the video camera doesnt work on it and i cant play music from myxer (it doesnt support .dm filetype) so it really drives me nuts...
honestly i dont know the difference between vanilla and sense, so anything goes.

I agree... CM6 is the best, and darch has his rc1 out now, so its extremely stable
Sent from my HTC Hero running froyo: take that, Sprint!
If you want to try a good stock rom that comes with apps 2sd go with nfinitefx45's stock .6 odex rom its awesome and gives you the beautiful htc sense!
ok C-6 it is... so another n00b question (Sorry guys, the hero is the first android phone ive had!)
on the c-6 posting it says to update radio if you need to. I dont even know what version I am running let alone how to flash a radio. My last friend who knew how to flash them told me not to flash my radio cuz its a good way to brick my phone.
And seeing as how this would be my first time flashing ANDROID im not sure i should flash a radio without supervision lol
Be careful if you start flashing your radio. If you flash one from a gms hero you can brick your phone.
If you go to "settings>about phone>software info>baseband version" that should be your radio I believe.
ok then im using
baseband version:
1.04.01.09.21
sound right?
i downloaded the C6 rom- but does anyone know a good android syncing software i can use to transfer the rom to my phone? again im not trying to annoy anyone. Once Ive learned the process once I will be able to do it again and again. With windows it was easy there was a program that did everything for you beside the hard reset.
btw is a wipe and a hard reset the same thing or no
Yeah sounds right. Here's where I got my updated radio from - http://geekfor.me/category/hero/radios/
ok awesome looks good. Is it required to flash a radio or no? like will it affect the rom's awesomeness
those radios are all for android 2.1 but it says c6 is android 2.2
Lol, I don't think its required to flash a new radio. I think you find a radio that gives you good signal strength and then you stick with it. I could be completely talking outta my ass though...
alright guys who've helped- thankyou!!
i figured out how to sync my phone using sugarsync so i can update my radio and rom. now im just going to follow flashing directions from c6 thread,
will post back with an update when its done...
ok this is rediculous.... this is the most time consuming thing ive ever tried to do with my phone. I couldnt transfer the c6 zip from sugarsync to my phone so i had to email it to myself...and took forever for my phone to download it. NOW the file is stuck in my download folder and for some reason i cannot move it or copy/paste it to the root folder.
btw, my root folder is NOT in the sd folder.
anyone know how im supposed to get the new rom into my root!????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
download the ROM
copy the .zip file over to your phones SD card in the root directory
Unplug your phone and turn it off
Hold power and home until you boot into Recovery
Select the option to flash zip
find your ROM and press the trackball and when its done reboot
that should work lol.
omgomg!!! i figured it out lol i noticed my old rom zip was in the sd directory so i "copied" c6 to that same spot and was able to boot from that. Restarted my phone, and its currently booting up with cyanogen 6!!
I have successfully flashed my first android phone....
now that thats done...anyone know where i can find the MARKET on cyanogen??
in his thread theres a link for something called "google sh*ts" or something.
Its all the google apps, like gmail and youtube and stuff
you have to download that and flash it and then restart the phone and theyll all show up.
Thats the rom i was using n_n

[Q] Is Enoms 1.6 rom still the overall best for the G1?

After 3 years, I am still rocking the G1 as my MAIN everyday general use android phone. (Because honestly.. aside from a G2 HTC nothing has come out that really replaces the overall usefulness of the G1)
I still use Enoms 1.6 rom. I checked before about updating, but back then, everyone had gripes or issues, or slowdowns that didnt really make it worth updating from. Anyways, just checking on if anything is different now. For someone who uses a partitioned sd card, apps installed to SD card automatically (not just moved) and so, is there really something worth upgrading to or is enoms rom still overall the better stable rom for us G1 users? Thanks. =)
you will always get the best speed and stability out of donut roms, there are lots of good ones to chose from so take your pick there. if you want to stick with 1.6 then you still might consider the 2708+ updated radio/spl that allows for 14 more megabites of ram, you will definitely notice this! after the update just reflash your rom and a compatible kernel over it.
there nice 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3 roms out there, plenty good enough for a daily driver but there are some lags compared to any good donut rom. if you want a taste try froyobylaszlo if you like it than there are lots more new roms that compare well to that.
2708+ updated radio/spl?
Usually I have about mid 20s-30 for memory free. Which seems decent for the most part, since everything else runs off the sd card. Only reason its lower since I use that compcache stuff.
As for the info, thanks, yea, figured donut is still better least for a every day use and general purpose.
Pls don't mix up RAM and internal memory. Internal memory is comparable to the hard disk of your PC, while RAM is memory which is used for executing programms.
The 2708/0013d combo will give you more RAM (112MB instead of 97MB), so most likely you can renounce on using compcache, but you will need an adapted kernel otherwise you will get bootloops.
Sent from my Gingerbread on Dream using XDA
Ah ok. Is enoms rom able to work with this new spl? Not even sure what would be the best way to do this.. Nandroid backup, flash new spl, and nandroid restore?
always do a nandroid.
the method i would do is backup everything via titanium backup, back up any sms or my call log via sms backup +, then i would make sure i have all the requirements and then flash the updated radio and spl. after this i would flash whatever rom i choose (stick with your donut if youd like) then i would flash rom and a compatible kernel over it, reboot, restore and be happy. also i would make sure i have all the files i need ahead of time, this being amon_ra (may need it) radio, spl, orange.nbh (in case of emergency) my rom of choice, and kernel of choice (if needed)
this is the way i'd go about it, you can try any method youd like there are tons of threads about this update so i would recommend reading a few first
oh and even if it sounds complicated its well worth it
I know, G1 was the 1st I ever did heh, now I do alot of em, The others I dont stress about as they arent my main everyday device.. I am just protective of my G1 lol.. My main device.
Does anyone know of enoms works on this new spl radio.
hanvet used enoms with the new radio/spl but i have used other 1.6 roms with it so im sure this will be fine too. just make sure you flash the appropriate kernel over the rom. if you take a look at ezterry's thread on kernels or even on the 2708+ page you will find plenty to choose from

Yes, it works. I've tried it just some minutes ago. Not sure if everything works, because I did only a quick check, but it's booting, you can log in browser is working, ...
The only thing you need to do is flashing a different kernel which supports the 2708 radio on top of the ROM. I flashed Terry's BiffTest Kernel but also the newer one should work.
If you like to get some more internal memory you could also use MTD-Partitions set to [67,2] which would give you a data partition size of almost 145MB
Btw.: I suppose I could not run such a ROM as my daily driver, it looks like it's already 10 years old ...
Hah found better rom called supertinhte 2.2 rom. Based on T-Mobile myTouch 3G.
Very Very fast ,comes with 82.19 free internal space.I think it is faster than froyo by lazlo with ramhack. Type it in google cant post link cause i am new here
I really like two [email protected] ROMs on my two G1s. I use them as my daily drivers.
I use SuperFroyo on one and I use SuperCDSIv4 (Donut) community edition (looks soooo much better than Mlign, etc...) on the other.
They are both great. I uninstalled virtually everything from SuperFroyo that I could. I can verify that you have no issue with deleting Talk, News and Weather for sure. Also, if you use another keyboard, you can delete the android keyboard. I did that on another installation. I delete stuff to have all apps internal.
SuperCSDIv4 is a little faster most of the time, but the niceties of Froyo are good too so I use and really like both. I recommend Lightning Launcher, then unistall ADW and LauncherPro if you go with Superfroyo. That launcher is hard to set up, but it is really light. Just go into themes and select "Zune" and try that. It is a cool theme and fast.
I think 2.2 is more fit for G1. some apps can't work on 1.6 ROM
True but the fastest 2.2 is slower then the fastest 1.6, if all you need is speed then donut is the way to go. You can push some apks onto donut roms that aren't found in the market but if you need some apps and other things froyo offers then you may need to move up

Apps for 2.2 arent really needed on the G1 screen, cept maybe those Authenticator apps. I have a diff android if I need those higher end apps.
I am a very proud G1 user too!
But I will suggest going too the CyanogenMod 5 Mod. With the proper tweaks, it reallly runs like a charm. Super E and Super F are also good ideas. Just google them up and look how to install them!!!!
So are people still using the volume increase thing for their G1 as well? I rem using the script and so to tweak that.
To be honest this GinSense rom is very fast and stable, its 2.3.7 using a cyanogenmod base.
There is that one problem with watching movies on it (were the sound keeps going but the video resets) but that's because its a problem with the cyanogenmod base, I know because every cyanogenmod rom I had, had this problem.
I would go to a 1.6 for speed, but then I would lose out on all the apps, and this is a quite snappy rom.

So question, to flash that ram increase radio. I could do that and do a nandroid restore afterwords?
No I'm pretty sure you would need to flash your rom again from scratch and then flash a compatible kernel over that

Well I see the kernel in this thread I should be flashing, but I am very confused. Ok, my SD card has its apps installed to it, the rom auto uses it for storage. I dont know if I should just be relying on Titanium backup for a backup and restore or nandroid.
Im "open" to the idea of upgrading the rom if its speedy. I just dont wanna lose all the apps and work I had on this rom already. Just so confusing atm. Been a LONG time since I had to flash or work with the G1. (Never need to mess with something that works flawless) My other androids I flash the **** out of and update heh. My g1 is my baby, so always was careful. I wouldnt mind that extra ram tho if it really helps.
So what do you all think is the best way to secure keeping my stuff and easily update this?
Edit: Gonna be basing my study off this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
Just wondering how my apps 2 sd will be, since on Enom, I did this the old school way and not the apps2sd thing. Which makes me think Titanium backup is the best way to restore apps on to a new rom (without data or should I be able to backup with data and restore with data, so used to not restoring with data)
Edit 2: Ok is is possible to do this, based on that thread. I use nandroid to backup, then do the steps, restore using nandroid and before I boot into the phone, I flash that biff any kernel thing, THEN reboot into the phone. Would that work and not lose anything?
