this feature is amust for me.
well, I thought, I'm not a developer, but cant' we do so:
from a stock 2.2 rom from p500 or e720(bcs treir hardware is almost identical to gt540) take the settings or drivers or kernel optimizations for tethering and port it to gt540's rom? correct me if wrong.
also i've read that people were trying to flash gt540 with p500 and e720 roms. but they got an error saying that it is wrong phone. cant somebody change the rom that it would recognize gt540?
just my noob thoughts...
+1 / if it work i'm
Im working on it for superfast froyo
Hi I'm working on it in my superfast froyo rom
Wifi tether
I don't know how to fix this error on CM7 or CM6 . But you can use this soft, it is made by Google :d
https://market.android.com/details?id=android.tether&feature=search_result
Whilst its not the built in app, the Wireless tether app by Muller Lemons and Buxton appears to work on Murik's ROM OK.
I also have installed the Open Garden Wifi hotspot app. That gives all the appearance of working but I can't get any data through it.
The former definitely works on the Vodafone network here in Greece. I imagine it will work with others. If not try the latter option - I cannot see any reason as to why its not working - in fact it thinks it is.
i want to use my data connection for my friends over wifi .... is this possible (they have also android so ad-hoc is not a good soloution for me )

If I were to flash the Cyanogen ROM, could I add themes to it? If so, would it be only certain themes? Only themes that are compatible with that ROM?
Also, is there a WiFi tether app? I can't seem to figure it out. I see it in MoDaCos online kitchen, but nothing else.
Thanks!
You cannot flash any theme and expect everything to work well... you need a theme built for that ROM since each ROM is different... and you also have to take into consideration the version of the ROM... if the theme is not built for that version, you may lose some features...
And yes, CM does have both wired & wireless teather applications...
here is free wifi tether program.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
if u rooted with cyanogenmod5.0 u should be able to tether with no app. just simply plug in usb and click setting>wirless and networks> check box for internet tethering. Works like a charm
Thanks! Great info.

That has never worked for me, but the above listed app has always worked perfectly.
hello, im using CM 6.1 RC1, is there a way to get the wifi calling feature on my HERO???
Is it an APK to download or is there another rom to have this feature even an older one?
Or is there any way to hack it to work on HTC HERO like this Nexus One Hack???
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807116
AFAIK, wifi calling requires certain hardware which enables it, wifi calling is also knows as UMA which is hardware specific, and the hero does not have such hardware
as an option - you could use google voice and another provider to make voip calls over wifi.

What do you mean, video call?? you may use skype AFAIK
I've installed the apk from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8593386#post8593386 on Villain 1.6.2 and get 'Invalid SIM' as expected as I'm not on T-Mobile US, can't change settings through the menus so stuck there.
There is also this http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/529673
But I haven't seen the app extracted anywhere yet. I use uma on my work BB all the time as the signal at home is crap, if this could be fixed for general andriod use it would be so useful.

Hi All.
I need some help.....
I've recently installed the new Cisco Jabber apk. I've added a custom Kernel with TUN enabled and I'm running VPNC widget to connect. Nearly everything works perfectly and I now get calls from my work desk phone directly on my DHD even when at home or out and about.
My one problem though is that when I try to make a call instead of being given the option to use Jabber (Dial from my Cisco Number) or my mobile network to make the call it defaults to the mobile network and of course doent work?
I've tried changing the settings over and over again but cant get it to work properly? I have tried 3 or 4 different Roms now thinking that it may have been a problem with one of them but still nothing works? I'm now pretty much convinced that its a Gingerbread problem but dont want to downgrade back to 2.2 until I've checked...
I have a friend that has Jabber installed on his Desire and it works perfectly.
Has anyone managed to get it working fully on their DHD??? If so can you post your Rom and Kernel details please???
Thanks
A gentle bump..... its been weeks and I'm still no further forward. Have tried several 2.3 Roms but still not been able to get it working properly? Has anyone else had any better luck than me?
Any chance I can get the default Cisco Jabber APK from you? I'd like to try it on my G-Slate.

I had the same issue, I downloaded an alternative Dialer e.g. Dialer one, and since then it is working perferctly.

I miss the HDMI-function, but do not want to go back to 2.3!
I know that HDMI is not fixed and supported on any ROM that is not stock-based (I have 10.1) but is there a solution on the way,
or is there a app that actually works on PlayStore?
Try with trial version of Ultimate Rotation Control from app store, i don't know if really work but if we don't try we don't know

Widescreen works if you use the app "Rotate Settings" and set it to Landscape mode.
no such app on play store... can you be more precise?
Sorry, my fault, the app's name is Ultimate Roration Control (here).
It's possible to try it out for 7 days for free trial to see it it works for your phone.
The app only helps you to make the correct mirroring from the phone (landscape, portraite), not making you get the HDMI work if you haven't made a proper build.prop with ROM Toolbox on the phone first.
It's all over internet to read about how that is done. Search on buld.prop + HDMI and you'll find a lot to read about it and how it's done. I'm a complete (oh well....) female noob and manage to fix it!
Also I did notice that using the HDMI cable I bought separately did not work as it was too big to fit on my LG P990. It wasn't being connected properly into the contact on the phone, the plastic is in the way to go all the way in!
By a coincidence I then found the original LG HDMI-cable in a drawer and it's a significant difference between the two in size.
Hope this info helps you guys!

Been trying to recreate those build.prop settings you were talking about, but no luck googling those. Mind to just share the build.prop tweaks?
