s0be's kernel has come a long way. It's close to being feature-complete, but you won't see the huge speedup potential it really has to offer until he deems it stable enough to strip out all of the debug symbols.

The best kernel is the newest one available over on the GSM hero forum. Good luck! Keep on yer toes!

If you are noob and read that, DO NOT flash a GSM radio.

Indeed, don't, but no one said flash a gsm radio. Kernel =/= radio

Anyone know where I can download Swype?

I'm currently running Cyanogenmod 6, and I noticed it's not in the market and not on their site, so is there somewhere I can get it from for free?

MOD EDIT: thread closed regarding swype/warez rules.
Yeah, you can wait for the beta to open back up and sign up. Otherwise, no, not and be on the up and up.

I guess you misunderstood. I'm only asking because I wasn't sure if there was somewhere or someway of getting it, or if it's only on specific phones.

In CM, you can remove Sprint from being displayed on the lockscreen and when the notification bar is pulled down.

Honestly I don't think anyone here, including myself, has any idea what you are talking about.
The HTC Hero was compiled as a CDMA phone. Provided a contract, it should work for whatever the Radio in your phone is programmed to connect to.

do you mind if I ask why exactly its so important that the rom isn't built around sprint. cyanogen, and cSrom are built without the sprint framework, but I feel like youre asking for more than that and Im quite curious

It just seams odd that all roms are built around sprint. And cyanogen is to sprint its the first Rom I used.

Well I mean this is technically a development question.
As for the Sprint tab on the apps in the market, that depends on where the Vendor.apk was pulled from before it made it into the GAPPs zip file. If it was pulled and compiled from a Sprint phone, then you will have that tab.
Honestly though, outside of an extra tab on the home screen of the market all CM6.1 and AOSP are both build from the Open Source Project from scratch. They should function as such - the "Sprint tab" is merely an aesthetic thing it seems to me.
-Kevin
I just use Appbrain anyway, forgot that tab even existed.
Still not real sure what you're looking for, though. You're going to have Sprint influence because 1. Unless you're cellsouth, it's your service provider, and 2. Team douche probably does nothing to the gapps, other than package them up in a zip due to legal issues. I suppose if you really wanted to you could pull the market apk and edit something so that the tab would say something other than sprint, but what's the point?

ASOP on the lock screen it has sprint in the upper right hand corner. It seems to me as a none sprint user that I see sprint in every Rom some where.

they have diiferent kernels, so you would need ours. I've never tried it, but I think you need to unpack the rom and put in our kernel and rezip/sign it. There's probably some other fancy stuff you need to do too, good luck.

Well guys I Did Try It... But Sadly After my Expectations were High, It just Stayed on the HTC Boot Screen!
But it Did Say Installed Successfully So I Still Believe its Possible...
I'd Be Willing to Give it Another Shot, But I can Honestly say I've Tried to Unzip/Rezip a Rom in the Past "But from my Phone"
Next I Resigned it with Signapktic, But must of did Something Wrong because I Kept Getting a Bunch of Force Closes!
If Someone Could maybe Take the Time to Explain the Correct Method to Rezip and use the Signapktic App, Like I said... I'd be Completely Willing to Play the Guinea Pig Role Again!
For the Sake Alone of Expanding the Choice of Roms All the Hero User Have, I Feel it Worth it!!

Dual booting is having 2 os's installed at the same time. It's usually done on pcs, like mine has windows 7(for gaming) and ubuntu(for everything else). Would be interesting on a phone though...
I know what dual booting is, but I don't know what bump has to do with it

it would be really cool but noone wants to mess with the boot loader for some reason. i dunno, if you want to dual boot you can get an hd2, i think they got that bootloader to work on the evo as well. so the hardware isnt all that special, but you would get dual boot.
i dont want anything gay or unrealistic like winmo or wp7 on a dual boot, just two roms. one to experiment with, and one to use for the phone stuff.
Yea thad b nice

as long as you stay within the same firmware versions (2.2 and 2.2, 2.2.1 and 2.2.1, etc) you can use nandroids to accomplish the same effect
They're already working on this in the android development section

Of course if the pace doesn't suit you, you could always speed it up by devving something yourself. Port a rom, build one, you know, something. Just an idea.
