Lcd density problem - Nook Color General

Hey guys I got a question ever time I turn off out reboot my nook
It sets the density gets set back to 161 when I have it set to 220 i used lcd density and that wouldn't save my chosen density.then I bought lcd density changer and I hit save at 220 and it says saved but it doesn't stay that way once it reboots or shuts off any help

I found that I needed to change this in build.prop file for it to be permanent. This was easily done with Root Explorer

EDIT found it on my phone once I get home ok will do it thanks

Actually, while in the lcd density changer app, you have to press menu, then go to "save density as system density", then it should do it.

Yeah, that was the reason I did that too, on mine softkeys were like 50% of the battery.
Never seen Softkeys using any battery here... Maybe the overlay does it? I disable it myself by setting Softkeys the default Home, set the Home within Softkeys PRefs to ADW (My 'real' Home), and disable the "Service" option in the Softkeys prefs.
Dont run the "service" and just double tap the nook button when you need to... slipe left on the notificaton bar as needed.
Thats what I do and it works well for me...

For what its worth, i've been using an app in the market called button savior. Works really well and i prefer it over softkeys.

[Q] app screen rotate

Hi,
I'm looking for a application for my Nook Touch to rotate the screen manually (because Nook Touch don't have sensors).
It will be very nice for web browser.
Did you know that kind of app?
There is nothing app like that. I tried create some, but without success, even start activity from another activity in landscape mode is not possible i think (please correct me, if you know how - I would like to finish tool for starting aplications in landscape mode), but still you can modify your apk.
1) download ApkTool code.google.com/p/android-apktool
2) download your apk application file (I tried on opera mini)
3) use apktool d your.apk apksource
4) edit AndroidManifest file : only add to activity android:screenOrientation="landscape"
5) use apktool b apksource your_modified.apk
6) then the hard part sign it with these steps or some others londatiga.net/it/how-to-sign-apk-zip-files/
7) use adb install your_signed.apk and thats it
Have fun
thank you for your informations.
I will try to modify Opera mini to use landscape mode but it will be easier to have a icon on the statut bar to do the rotation "on the fly"
Hmm, I've noticed that when I tap the status bar to launch the wifi settings popup, it always switches me back to Portrait mode. So that's at least half of the desired functionality.
Also, there's a lot of games (including Angry Birds) designed for Landscape view, launching them to change orientation and launching the application you want could work.

The Aldiko app permits screen rotation, and that rotation persists in other applications, although I don't recall if it does in a browser--the rotation persists in Kindle app.
So we know it is possible!

It could be possible if You have source code (It's not enough have apk, because apktool don't decompile it). There is "tutorial" how to optimize it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183173
found out that the app permissions denied starts in landscape,
if you go back to your home screen while loading its stays in landscape and you can launch the most apps in landscape mode too (like aldiko workaround)
I just installed ADWLauncher EX on the touch and then went to ADWSettings. In UI Settings I selected Screen Preferences and changed my Home Orientation to landscape. Pretty much puts most apps in landscape, excepting stock nook ones. HTH.

That's very helpful! I'll try it. Thanks.
There's an app for that.
I'm sorry about the year-and-a-half bump, but this page is one of the top Google results. I have made an app for rotating the NOOK screen, and just about anything else's screen too. You install the app, and when it launches you are presented with two buttons: Portrait and Landscape. Click one and the app exits, sticking the screen in the new mode. Enjoy!

[Q] Opera Mobile layout and LCD Density

Does anyone know where Opera is pulling LCD Density to determine layout, or some way to force Opera into the Tablet layout?
So I've changed the ro.sf.lcd_density value in build.prop to 240, and everything looks reasonably fine except for Opera Mobile (and the stock Samsung dialer/Smemo, and Thumb Keyboard, but I know the issues there or can live with it). I've also disabled Compatibility Mode via Spare Parts, and that doesn't seem to have helped.
Now, I also know that if I use this to change lcd density to 240 https://market.android.com/details?id=lv.n3o.lcddensity&hl=en , it changes Opera's layout to the Tablet one which I much prefer (with the navigation bar on top).
How is that program changing LCD Density to get Opera to conform? I would like a solution that persists on boot, but I'm not sure any of these other LCD Density programs would work, seeing as how most of them just set the build.prop, which I already know how to do.

Lcd resolution from the market does the job. Density change sticks after reset. Opera is in tablet layout.
On a related note, is it possible to have it the other way round? I want to run with 240 density, but the tablet layout in Opera mobile is just too hard to use at 240.

Well, if you want it that way, then just edit build.prop's value without doing anything else and it should be phone layout Opera with 240 everything else. That's what I have without using another program, at least.
A little off topic but may I ask if Opera quits if you open it in portrait mode then switch to landscape? That happens to me every time.
Sorry for the off topic question.
Thanks,
Claude H.

I want Opera Mobile to be in phone mode on my Galaxy Tab 2 7in. But, where in the world is the build.prop setting?
Having everything on one bar at the top is so crammed up in tablet mode. It looks so nice on my phone with the nav bar separate and at the bottom.
build.prop file is in the system folder.

[Q] Unable to access menu in Google Play

Out of nowhere my three dots in Google Play have disappeared and I'm unable to pull up the menu/settings. All I have in the top corner is the search funtion. How do I retrieve this? I use LMT instead of the stock bars for navigation. I even tried freezing 'Soft Key Bar' in apps. Rebooted, and no change. Any help would be kindly appreciated.

It depends on how you set up LMT. Did you assign a menu option to your pie? The three dots on the pie was mine and I used that to access menu options inside of apps
Thanks for the quick response. I've setup my pie with the home, back, menu (which I thought would access all menus within all apps) and OpenNotificationBar. Is there another menu command within LMT that I'm missing?
Lower your dpi in the build.prop
Open build.prop file and edit this line only.
ro.sf.lcd_density=240 <--------Set this value to 180. Back out of build.prop, save when asked. Reboot. Check.

I'm a little hesitant about editing the build.prop. Is there another way? What about re-installing the Play Store?
If you are hesitant about it that's ok. I don't know any other way. But the edit is harmless, I promise. You just have to be careful that you don't accidentally edit anything else.
You will notice that the lock screen is different.... but that's OK. You can download 2 apps to have a custom lock screen like widget locker or magic locker. I'll post links if you so desire.
If you want to skip my advice all together... well that's your prerogative. But you may be waiting a while for another fix.
Here's 2 pictures showing the difference. The top is with dpi of 240. The bottom is dpi 180. With mainkeys =1
****UPDATE****
This is with
A) softbar.apk removed from /system/app,
B) qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
C) dpi set at 180.
Perfect.
I should mention that I have go keyboard installed and xSettings installed with stock locker option disabled. With widget locker installed. And LMT soft keys installed.

Oddly enough, I have an app called Fullscreen Toggle that I installed to take away the soft key bar, which has been working just fine. In this app, I decided to try re-enabling the stock soft keys to see if it would bring back the menu button in Google Play (not sure why I thought it would, just effing around with it). Well, when I re-enabled the soft key bar in Fullscreen Toggle it didn't bring the soft keys back up, but I DID get my menu button in Google Play back along with other menu buttons in other apps! Weirdness..

Yes, several times. I'd forgotten that I also froze the system app 'Soft Key Bar'. I'm assuming that's why it didn't come back up. Not sure why enabling that in Fullscreen Toggle brought back the app menus though. Either way, it's doing what I want it to do now.
Thank god for this forum or I wouldn't be attempting any of this crap, lol.

Had this problem but found a setting
I had this problem in a rom I was using and tried all kinds of dpi settings without any luck getting the menu drop-down for the playstore settings. Then while I was in the interface settings of the rom control, there was a setting called "Statusbar Behavior" and that was turned off, and when turned on, the three dots that allow menu settings was available. This is late for this case, but I wanted to share so if others down the road had a similar problem and came across this thread as I did trying to resolve this kind of issue it would give another option to check. Hope this helps.
