[Q] CompCache on the Nook (CM7) - Nook Color General

Simple enough question:
Is CompCache a good idea on the Nook Color running CM7? If so, what %?
I've noticed that sometimes menus scroll smoothly on my Nook, while other times it's awful. Is that because I'm switching up the CompCache?
Thanks all

[Q] Speed up auto rotation/G sensor

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows a way to speed up the time it takes my DHD to decide to rotate.
Currently it seems to take about 3 seconds which seems pretty shoddy.
Everything else seems fine, no lag and charged with de-bugging, around 200mb of Ram free at all times.
Is there a way to speed this up or any good apps to adjust the settings of the g-sensor?
Thanks
I guess the poster above searched and did not find an answer. I am wondering the same thing.......Programs are willing to switch to landscape pretty fast but back to portrait is a bit 'slow'
There's been over 100 views and no answer so I can only assume that no one has an answer yet but are looking for one.
I've found a few apps to toggle rotation on and off but I just wanted to speed it up.
These toggles can come in handy when reading ebooks in bed etc so although not what we're after here's a link to some

Have you OC'd your DHD? I have no problems with the autorotation speed.

Nope, I do use Set CPU but it's happening when the device has been awake for a while and battery is fine. Parameters I set were 2 hundred and something mhz screen off and 7 hundred and something under 50% battery, all on demand so that shouldn't be a factor.
I can't find any apps like advanced config or g-config which I used to customise this on Winmo 6.5

[Q] Is Browsing now using graphics chip in Cyanogen ROM?

lately my web browser seems buttery smooth, even on larger websites like engadget.com and whatnot. using cyanogen ROM 6.1. is the browser now using hardare graphics, or any other "trick" recently been done on the browser?
also, related to this, for months i've been using the "invert colors" option in the browser to save battery life (which works wonders BTW). but recently i turned this off and that's hwne the scrolling now becomes buttery smooth. if i change back to invert color, same web page, didnt even reload it, it is not quite as smooth and a little stuttery. same text, web page, everything. yet showing all white is smooth as hell, showing all black is choppier.
so then i tested other sites with colors other than white and black, and it turns out no matter what color, the invert color option is ALWAYS stuttery, and the regular non-invert color is always smooth as butter.
anyone know what exactly the invert color option is doing behind the scenes, and why this would effect performance like this? thanks.
Hi Roger, I noticed this also on CM7 and just stick with white. The only thing I can think of is that perhaps it is rendering the default white 1st and then re-rendering the change 2nd behind the scene and on the fly thus causing the lag, but idk.
hey man,, yeah i have just been using the regular white color. i originally thought that the "invert color" option just simply looked at all color hex values loaded on a page, and inverted them, almost like multiplying by negative 1. wouldnt think that would take any additional procesing power. but it seems it does.
at first i thought it was just the screen having difficulty displaying all black with white text, vs all white with black text. but turns out its only the invert option, and regular black color sites are smooth. so must be the option causing this...
I think it's because of Flash. By default the flashes won't load until you touch them.
There is no hardware acceleration in the stock browser, cyanogenmod or otherwise.
If you a browser that may or may not have hardware acceleration go with Opera Mobile (not mini). It's incredibly smooth, and when they launched it they said they would add hardware acceleration support in the near future. I am unsure as to whether it has gotten added in yet, but in any case, it's much smoother than the stock browser on any image-heavy page. However, unfortunately, it doesn't support flash. Firefox Mobile is also much smoother than the stock browser, but it checkerboards a lot for me, so I don't like recommending it. They too have stated that their next major release will have HW acceleration.

[Q] Tablet mods questions for nook color? Kindly help

Hello- first of all thank you for all the efforts that you guys (xda-developers) have put into making Nook Color a cool tablet.
I have pretty much gone through all the ROMs out there and have a few questions:
1. I am looking for a ROM that does not have this phone, camera and other not so relevant stuff for Nook Color. I want my Nook Color to feel and run like a tablet and not like a tablet running phone OS. Is there one out there?
The stock ROM does have more of a e-reader/tablet feel but the home screen sux (I think).
2. The buttons/soft keys in the ROMS I have tested are tiny and hard to use. Once again that is one of the good things about Stock ROM it has big buttons and if you have big fat hands like me they are easier to use. Any mod/theme/setting to make all the buttons typically BIGGER?
Thanks again for your work and support!
(If i have asked questions and have already been asked, my apologies. Please direct me to the relevant thread)
Doesn't changing the screen density do this? I believe some people change the screen density to a value of 250 or so to make the icons appear bigger. I think it does cut something off, though. Do a search, it might be what you want.
Tablet Tweaks is the thread title I think.
I am on my phone now so no links or long post.
Your best bet MAY be honeycomb, long term.
The tablet tweaks are still being tested but are a tremendous improvement.
right now it is a separate rom (based on latest CM7) compiled every few days by the dev
It IS considered at best beta last I knew. Project is only a week or so old.
I use CM7 with the tablet tweaks and oc kernel and have few problems; everything that does act up is being worked on actively.
I'm currently on customized nookie froyo with wretched's theme.
Looks and feel good to me:
Rom:

Theme:
Additional app:
- Button savior instead of softkey for full screen app. It's less intrusive
- No Lock : disable the lockscreen, when pressing a button the nook wake up without the phone styled lockscreen.
I use zeam as my launcher with stock rooted. I don't see any 'phone' artifacts anywhere. I imagine this would be the same for any rom.
I remapped volume up to back and don't even use soft keys or the like anymore. If all the buttons are too small then I think a density bump is your best bet.

Sleep of death due to AdjBrightness

I like to read book in Nook App but hate its brightness adjustment slider. I like AdjBrightness app for doing that. Recently I discovered that I can Lock Brightness in AdjBrightness app and then Nook App is forbidden from changing brightness on start. Since the time I started doing that, I noticed I started getting the sleep of death problem. By sleep of death, I mean after reading I would sleep my NC and then it would refuse to wake up needing a reboot.
I am currently using a CM7 nightly. And I am thinking of one of two fixes:
1. Stop using AdjBrightness and try another app to lock brightness. Or use another reader app that allows yielding to system brightness natively.
2. Install Phiremod, Honeycomb or MIUI to see if that fixes the problem.
I have a feeling #2 is not going to do anything since these are variations of CM7 but maybe there is a bug in CM7 which has been fixed in these releases. But the time to install these is enough to keep me from trying it. If anyone has these releases and is willing to try these steps, I would greatly appreciate it.
As for #1, if anyone knows about any apps, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
100% reproducible here as well. You might want to start a thread in the dev forum and bring this to dalingrin's attention.
Rodney
Thanks Rodney. Just a followup, I played with some other ereader apps and I have found three that would allow me to yield to system brightness setting.
Cool Reader has a "Default" setting for brightness.
Books (I think it is Google Books) has a check box for using system brightness setting.
FBReader has a check box to disable the sliding finger action for adjusting brightness but it actually disables the brightness setting altogether yielding to system brightness.
Of all the apps, I liked FBReader the best maybe because I have used it before. I tried my best to get the reading layout (on any one of the above) to look like Nook App (Amasis font at 21) but I could not. So I went back to Nook App. It looks so damned good to me! I guess I would lay off the brightness lock and use that awful slider in the Nook App.

CM 10.2 Graphics Rendering Problem

I'm running the latest nightly for CM10.2 and I've started to experience strange graphics rendering issues. For example, when on the desktop I'll launch chrome and the desktop background will slowly go away as a black background curtains from top to bottom with all the icons remaining. This process occurs very slowly and then the icons all disappear yielding the chrome app.
I am running a typical CM10.2 skin, no overclocking, plenty of hard drive space, but it seems like the gpu is taxed or there are memory management issues. Can anyone help or recommend changes?

I'd like to add that I'm using a live background (Xperia z). This problem also occurs occasionally when fast switching apps via holding the home button. Did not start until I put the 11/6 nightly after using nightly s in the same configuration for a month prior.
