Hi guys,
I rooted my phone yesterday. This all went very well, the icon in my programlist is there but now...
I tried to remove some preinstalled programs with (an older version of) Root Explorer. When I push the button ' remount as R/W' nothing happends. So now I still can't remove any program from my phone?
Who has got the solution?!
Thanks!

If you don't have a current licensed version of root explorer, it may not work.
You could try Titanium. I use that to both delete apps and freeze them. On stock ROM, I generally only freeze them so OTA updates will still come through.
Try this app, works for me
Root Uninstaller
I can remove every app I want with Titanium Backup
Enable USB Debug mode
you can also freeze apps via adb.
just do
adb shell
pm list packages
pm disable com.app.App
where com.app.app is the program you'd like to disable

I installed facebook from the market and now it won't uninstall. I am using Cyanogen 4.2.5 and the Nabzihero 2.8 theme on a MT3G.
So, a little back story. I installed the theme a week ago. I noticed the the sterricson lock screen conflicted with SMS popup, so I decided to change back to the stock theme. I went and reflashed the rom and when I did android said that Facebook wasn't installed, but he market says it is.
I rolled back to my latest nandroid backup and the app works again, but it won't let me uninstall it. Neither through the market or the application screen in settings. I'm at a loss as to how to get the app off my phone. I'm sure there's a way through the terminal, but I don't know how.
ok, so first, sometimes the market and android conflict - now depending on your nandroid, did the rom have facebook app included? if so, this will be why you cant update/remove and why market says its there -
some roms have it included thus it is located in /system/app which will not allow you to delete it through the app manager.
plug your phone into your computer and do the following from terminal/command prompt
adb remount
adb shell
rm /system/app/Facebook.apk
then, reboot and you will be able to install facebook from the market

This helps out a lot. It turns out that the theme I had installed did have facebook in it. That's fixed it, though. Thanks a bunch!
Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if this will make sense, but I am planning to remove the default swype keyboard on my SGS i9000 and install a beta one since Swype has opened up their doors for new beta testers. However, after registering and running SwypeInstaller, I was told by it that I need to remove the Swype first on my SGS--which I can't since it's a system application. So I installed Titanium Backup Pro and froze it then re-ran the Swype Installer. And of course it doesn't install since I cannot overwrite system apps.
In short, I'm now under the dilemma of removing the default Samsung Swype which I couldn't get back unless I reflash a stock firmware or keeping it and not installing the Beta Swype. I think the beta swype is more updated (I've ran it on my x10).
Is there any other way to update the Swype in our SGS?
Thanks.
you need to be rooted, connect with adb and do
rm /system/app/Swype.apk
rm /system/app/Swype.odex
rm /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
reboot
Thanks. My SGS is rooted and all, but i'm not sure I'm up for some ADB action yet. In case I use Titanium Backup to remove it or use Root Explorer, will it work?
titanium won't remove the lib, in root explorer you can delete the 3 files. but honestly adb is a lot quicker imho
Hey, should I back up those files first before deleting them? Thanks.
I installed the new beta on my Galaxy S, but it just forced closed. This may be due to the fact that I couldn't remove the lib file though.
Also I restarted after remove the old one by using Titanium Backup, but when ever an application got focus it force closed. After restarting that fixed up.
I couldn't restore the old version of Swype, so I had to reflash to get it back.
Hopefully we'll get the self updating Swype soon .

Can you tell me how to mount /system as RW in adb?
I am only able to access in RO
EDIT: i managed to get to system in RW mode after rebooting to CWM recovery. I guess this is the only way?
Use sgs tools to remove it, you can find it in the market.

Ahh good tip - worked nicely!
However - now I can't get Swype to install!
I'm officially on the beta, so am using the installer rather than trying to sideload an apk.
But at some point it prompts me to authorise its installation, saying "this is a system application - are you sure you want to replace it?" - although I've removed (in theory) the system version of swype.
Any ideas?
I'm having the same issue... tried deleting all the files associated with swype using root explorer, no luck...

This really sucks.
I'm a new SGS user and all this rooting and ADB stuff is quite beyond me. All I want is a simple way to update Swype that came pre-installed and apparently that is not possible.
Hi,
I have the lg optimus l90.
I used the towelroot app to root the phone. i used a terminal app to verify that i do have root. when the app opened, it displayed a $ sign but when i typed "su" and pressed enter it gave me a "#" prompt. so am i rooted?
also i was told to install the superSU app. why do i need this? can't i just uninstall the bloatware right now since i am rooted?
I installed the superSU app but it was not able to install the su binary because i did not reboot the phone after using towelroot. I uninstalled the SuperSU app. anyhow, what do I need to do now to remove those bloatware apps. there is no option to uninstall in the apps section of the android settings application.
finally, I read somewhere that i should use nobloat app to uninstall the bloatware but it is not uninstalling the bloatware. I uninstalled it.
so what do I do now?
any help would be much appreciated.
thanks.
Superuser is needed for apps to have root rights to your phone. Install superuser. Reboot phone and open app. Reboot again if needed. Rooting is useless without superuser installed

Along with root and SuperSU, you will also need a root App manager or root file manager. I personally prefer to use ES File Explorer as it is both an application manager ( user and system ) as well as an awesome file manager.
There is no list of acceptable system apps to remove. So be very careful as to what you uninstall or you may endup with a soft bricked phone or one that spazzes out whenever it feels like it. I would recommend making backups of any app you want to remove before uninstalling it. At least you might be able to restore them if something goes wrong.

thank you both for the replies.
so what exactly is SuperSU for? when I opened it up I saw nothing in the apps list and I did not see anything else in the other lists within the app. also, I did not restart the phone before trying to update the su files and when I did restart the phone nothing updated. So, do I use something like ES file explorer to remove bloatware?
by the way, when I tried to surf the web after installing superSU app, the web browser was extremely slow. the webpages loaded very slowly but when after I uninstalled the superSU app, it was loading the pages fast again as normal. what's up with that?
thanks.

SuperSU is a binary executable that grants or denies superuser requests. Without it root is worthless.
You won't see anything in SuperSU permission list until an app asks for superuser permissions. When first opening the SuperSU app you should get prompted to update/install the su binary. Allow that action to happen.

That's because the su binary was never updated.

so in order to run something like the nobloat app I need to grant it permission to be a superuser? I never had to do anything like that when I ran the nobloat app and It actually worked. It still does not make sense to me what supersu is used for.

I ran the towelroot app and it was successful. However, I did not reboot the phone before attempting to update the su binary and the superSU app said i should restart before updating. I restarted the phone but it never updated the su binary when I ran the superSU app again. What do I do now?
thanks.
Hi guys,
I just rooted my new phone using this method -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
Everything went smoothly so after that I decided to uninstall some sony bloatware I have no use for, such as Albums and what not. After doing so though, I noticed the icons are still in the app drawer, is there a way to actually remove them from there? Or hide them or something?
Cheers!
If the icons are still there, you did not uninstall them.
Because I DID uninstall them (via Titanium) and they disappeared right after the operation completed. Maybe you should just restart the launcher (soft reboot).

That's odd then. Because whenever I uninstall one of Sony's apps with Titanium, if I reboot the phone it shows up again in the list as if I did nothing... I've got the PRO version of course. I don't understand what's happening here, root is fully working though.
If I freeze the apps they do disappear. I don't get it :s
Just did a quick test.
Unfroze the app "Album" and wiped cache and data. Uninstalled in Titanium. It shows successful. Rebooted the phone, go into Titanium, it shows it's there installed.... What the hell?
I never had any kind of issue like this with other android devices.
You probably did not go to the root process correctly and the /system is mounted as RO instead of RW.
Did you flashed NUT's dual recovery? And also this:
hi , if you cant ger xposed to work and titanium back up . please go to giefroot folder > files , then open ''cmd'' by holding shift + right click and then copy/paste these following codes one after another.
adb push systemrw.sh /data/local/tmp
adb push modulecrcpatch /data/local/tmp
adb push wp_mod.ko /data/local/tmp
adb shell
chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/systemrw.sh
chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/modulecrcpatch
chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/wp_mod.ko
su
cd /data/local/tmp
./systemrw.sh
i hope it helps , goodluck

I did. I followed the link at my original post. Followed everything and everything went successfully. Titanium has root permissions, it's just the uninstalling of certain Sony apps that are always coming back to life.
What apps are doing this?
Just tried to copy paste a file onto system and indeed it doesn't work. It's mounted as RO apparently. I'm going to try the fix from the first link.

Album, Video Unlimited, Sony Select, all the xperia bloatware
I have tons of bloatware removed, but I tested Sony Select now. Uninstall via TB PRO, reboot, check. App's gone from launcher, TB and system.
I am pretty sure, that your /system partition is not mounted as writable.

You can do that compeltely with root, by erasing the file from your root folder, or you can hide the app via adb and without root. In both case the app won't show up, but if you reset your phone the app will come back if you used the adb method.
Every apps can't be uninstalled/hiden without troubles. Some apps are necessary to your phone, but if you're talking about preinstalled facebook or something like that then no problem.
If you're not sure tell me what app you want to remove, I'll tell you if it's cool or not.
Here's an article on how to do it with adb:
