I looked in the forums before posting this and only found one or two threads that sort of helped. lol.
Long story short, I have tried ROM after ROM after ROM, the first few weeks they all seem fine, but 2-3 weeks after a new flash they all turn flaky. Since I use my phone for SMS, MMS, email, internet, and obviously the phone itself, I need something that can encompass all those features but REMAIN stable. My biggest issue I usually run into is my constant switching between landscape and standard mode causes my phone to lock up and my screen to go all white or criss-cross and stick showing both landscape and standard modes about 5-6 times a day. This has happened on every ROM I have tried.
I need a WING ROM that has all those features, a decent page pool size, 6.1 based (or has threaded SMS), and preferably does NOT have the cube lol. I am not a fan. If anyone has recommendations for me, please let me know and either provide a link or the version and author of the ROM you recommend (so I know what to search for). It's been awhile since I have been on this site, or any ppc site, so I am not up to date on what's the most currently cooked ROMs.
Just as an FYI, I am currently using Open Touch 4.0
I use the same rom, and constantly IM, use the phone, MMS, Internet, and Text. Whatevr rom you have the phone will go slow while switcing from Portrait to Landscape mode, its slow when you are on the stock rom. The only adive is to just download whatevr programs u need if u want more, or try to cook your own rom. Open Touch 4 is very stable and is a very good rom, although i dont understand what u mean by they become flaky after 2-3 weeks
I know the switch is usually slow, the speed isn't the issue, it's the fact that my phone will completely lock up and require a soft-reset if I switch between views too often/quickly. Aside from what comes stock on Open Touch 4.0, I have only installed iContact, Yahoo2Go!, and Slick.
As far as the become flaky part... after a few weeks of use it seems the performance of my phone takes a HUGE dive. Things start locking up far more often. I will start getting odd messages/error messages I never had pop up earlier (and I don't install anything new or mod the phone in any way after I flash to a new ROM and install the 3 previously mentioned programs), the phone will randomly reset itself, my email and MMS will stop working, it will have sudden issues with EDGE (and when I call T-Mobile they say everything is fine), etc etc. lol. I think my phone just may be possessed! I was actually thinking of switching back to the stock TMO ROM and just upgrading. I don't know if that would work better for me or not. lol.

take the phone and go to the latest tmboile rom that was released. this should resolve any minor issues that may have happened during previous flashes. Next try itspapadiamond rom. it is not HTC home based and is battery status based. It has so far been the most stable rom i have been using. You must also remember that messages take up space on the phone and if you are not deleting the messages you will inevitably fill the phones memory up with texts and also clearing your browsing history every week is also helpful. i filled my phone up with that garbage and it ran TERRIBLE. third what programs do you have running in the backround when your switching from portrait to landscape.
The only things I have running usually are Messaging and ActiveSync. Do you have the links for the lastest TMO ROM and the itspapadiamond ROM? If not, I will find them. I just don't know if there are specific version numbers and if so, those would be useful so I don't come across a thread saying it's the latest ROM and it in fact... be outdated lol.

Just wandering because I have wanted a Diamond from the very first time I set eyes on one. I am not into messing with it as much as I see most members are here. I surely would like to have a better, faster, stronger Diamond but not at the expense of having to reboot every other day, or having it do some weird thing just when I need it the most. I need to know, should I get one, given that I probably am too chicken to mod it? My main uses would be basic phone functions, camera and GPS. I am not really into music and surfing is really too slow and costly, except over WIFI, which I never seem to get when I really need it .
Thanks Wayne.
My Orange ROM is fine. No branding. Fast and stable. Does everyting you want
Installed a few extra apps like Tomtom and S2P (music player)
I have the NAM version available at best buy. No problems at all with the stock rom. Its fast stable, and the radios, gps, etc all work fine. Cant see flashing a rom when I have no problems with the stock rom and no performance issues. Fiddling is a different story. IMO the diamond needs some tweaking to reach its potential. An example would be that on mine at the tf3d home screen there is a soft button for phone which performs exactly the same as the hard button for phone. Cant figure out who thought it would be a good idea but I used advanced config to change the softkey to contacts.
I am happy with the phone, especially its compact size. I haven't flashed any ROM yet, just using the Telstra stock rom for the last 5 months. Very stable and no hard-reset so far. Though I think I would flash some other ROMs soon as I just can't resist the temptations and the excitement of playing with the phone.

I have the US Version too, I got it from Ebay last week, and some tweaks via Advanced Config it's running like a champ! The only issue I have is every once in a while, TouchFlo 3F will freeze for what seems like forever, then start working again okay, I'm not sure if it's just normal or something is conflicting somewhere.
Using stock rom since first day i got my diamond, only hard reset once since, and thats the first day i got it
the only thing that irks me is the meager amount of device memory available
Looking through all the custom roms, doesnt really find one that suits me, so.. stock rom for me then
Stock Sprint ROM here... no issues, other than the phone's lack of device memory as stated above. Not much I can do there, and I like the look of Sprint's TF3D, so I'm keeping it.
been running stock UK ROM for six months and working fine. Would love to take some of the apps out that came with phone to free up memory such as IE and MSN, but can't do that without using a cooked ROM, and my need does not take me past the point of having a bricked phone to do it! I have installed some other programs (mostly games), but if you are using the phone for what you say you will have no bother at all with memory.
The only bad things about the phone is the battery life is rubbish with the stock 940 battery. I have upgraded to the 1340 one and that has solved all my problems, so I would say try and get one with the bigger battery with it (bear in mind it does make the phone slightly wider and the back cover is matt not gloss that comes with the larger battery).
Hope this helps.
Yes best phone i ever had
Very happy with the stock 1.93 ROM. I only reset maybe once every month, and the phone is on 24/7. Best thing I did was to disable TouchFlow 3D and install SPB Mobile Shell.
o2 German Stock Rom 1.93 with small reg. Tweaks. Runs fine and i am happy.
Wow, that's great to hear. I think you get too caught up in all the negative stuff when you do any kind of search on electronic devices. I am not apposed to flashing a new rom it is just that I know with every good thing there is always attached some weird and wonderful "bug". I am also not apposed to tweaking as I have done so with my Touch. Do any of you have any issues with the GPS? Again, a lot of negative stuff out there, especially about position lag. I just tried a CDMA version at Telus in Toronto, Canada and while playing with the Tflo 3D I noticed some lag at times. It was fast and smooth then it would not move then it seemed to catch up but I had already tried to move it again so it was all over the place then it would be okay. I am waiting for Rogers to get it and if not I might bite the bullet and get an unlocked one.
Thanks for all your replies it is nice to see that I do not have to flash a new rom to be happy.
Dhatw.
A happy one here too with a german stock ROM...
i love my stock rom, i have changed the www europe rom with the eastern Europe stock rom, foundit on an Romanian site.. basically is the same, and i have tried custom rom but they wore not of what i expected so i'm happy with my stock rom, until i learn how to cook mine
I love my diamond, stock unlocked US 3G.
Running stock WWE 1.93 ROM with minor tweaks, cant remember the last time I had to reset & on 24/7.
Top phone, best I've had yet !
Yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,
hapy too with my 1.93 htc rom
the only suggestion I have is
A) Flash the .08 radio (much better for gps easy and no hard reset)
B) use diamond tweak to customize your phone
C) disable quick gps (with diamond tweak)
i did a little bit of theme modding to get rid of most of the stinky T-Mobile branding, other than that everything is running fast and smooth.
would probably be faster and smoother by running another ROM / Radio, but i'm not bothered enough to tinker about that much, not yet anyway.
battery life is a bit crappy when you've got the heavyweights running (GPS/WiFi) but then you'd expect that. phone also gets very hot when charging or in heavy use.
keeps me warm in winter.
overall, i'm definitely happy. if ever i doubt getting this phone i'll put my sim back in my MDA Touch for an hour to remind myself of why i needed a new handset.
At first I was bothered by the battery life but now I either charge overnight or leave it in a cradle at work so it's not an issue, unless I go camping or something
I realised within a few weeks that I didn't like TF3D but, having got rid of it and the HTC Dialer & Volume Control, the Diamond is a much better device now.
I'm unsure if I'll get another HTC device but I'm hoping within the next year-and-a-bit they can come up with a device the same size with a better battery and TV out!
Edit - Oh yeah, not a stock ROM!
Have any of you seen this thread by Cornflipper at PPC geeks? :
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=109527
I just took the plunge and flashed, I hope this is legit, well if not.... that is what insurance is for right? lol
So, I flashed it and it seems to be a little more stable, it has a new sys and new Radio..... I hope it turns out to better than stock, it will make waiting for the HSPL a little eaiser.
Flashed the new rom last night basically for the new radio ( 2.25 ). I ran it for a couple of hours before I put Sense 2.5 2011 back on it. The radio is better where I live ( I got an extra bar at home ) and the calls seemed a little clearer with more volume. Data and sms seem smoother and the rom seems a little faster and smoother. I do like it better .
After having this rom on for a day or so , the the thing that really sticks out is that there is virtually no memory leak , I can't believe it ! My free memory has been at 52 - 56% all day . Was worth the flash.
I jumped on this and I have to say, I'm really happy that I did. The device is notably more 'snappier' than it was. I never really had much of a memory leak problem, but I'm seeing slightly less memory usage than I typically do.
No problems at all updating, either. The installer that was posted on the first post of that thread worked out of the box for me, painless and easy. Just a re-sync to get my contacts back and some reconfiguration was all that was required. Cornflipper is my hero
One thing I noted that I like, and maybe it was there in the stock ROM and I just missed it during setup, was the ability to set the multimedia button to launch the TouchFlo Music tab. While the music app still seems pretty laggy/slow with a 10GB library on a storage card, being able to use that button makes me happy. If only I knew how to set the volume granularity under TouchFlo. (WMP still makes a better MP3 player mode for now IMO)
Not sure about battery usage, I went down to 90% pretty fast, but I've been downloading/reinstalling a bunch of things. Radio does seem to stay 3G instead of 1X better than it did as well.
I recommend. Nothing appears to have gotten worse.
edit: It also seems that the data connection will turn itself on by default now after soft-resetting the device, which is new for me. It was always OFF for me unless I turned it on manually. Data conn still dies when powering the phone off, though. I've had issues with data crapping out randomly, maybe that will be fixed too, but haven't had the ROM long enough to know one way or the other.
edit 2: I thought I took a major hit in battery life today, without even using the phone for anything it was down to 50% after being unplugged for 9 hours. However, it also charged back to 100% in about 15 minutes, so it looks like flashing the ROM messes up the battery gauge again. Using my original trick of charging, unplugging, charging, unplugging ... until it just won't charge anymore. Worked when the phone was new
I highly recommend it!
I have to agree with the concensus over at PPCGeeks . . . this rom ROCKS!
One of the bigest things for me is that A2DP starts automatically now. When I get into my car and start one of my Podcasts, it imediately plays through the car stereo; I don't have to go ino the BT settings and start it!
The memory leaks seem to have been fixed for the most part - it starts at 52% after a restart and only creeps up a bit from there. I also see far moe 3G coverage than with the old ROM.
I can't say that I have noticed any battery improvement though . . . but it is certainly no worse!
If you haven't updated yet . . . what are you waiting for?

No, I didn't do anything special . . . in fact I noticed it by accident. Since this was a problem with the previous ROM I stopped using it, but one day I just started playing a PodCast when I got into my car and it played through the radio. I was pleasantly surprised!
I can't say that I have noticed that the sound quality is lower (I mostly listen to spoken-word Podcasts, so quality is not a big issue), but I do notice a half-second pause from time to time. It's a bit annoying, but not a big deal considering what I'm listening to - if I was listening to music I imagine it would be VERY annoying!
Installed - but WORSE memory mgmt?

So I upgraded to the latest and greatest and have seen worse behavior in memory management. I used to be able to go a number of days without rebooting, now memory shoots from 58% upon boot to 70% in a few minutes. Exact same applications installed, nothing new but the ROM.
I've also had strange issues where the phone doesn't always ring -- screen lights up, but no ringtone.
Anyone else see new issues since upgrading?
More oddities with the new ROM
FYI: I also manually put my phone into Vibrate mode...it somehow went back into Automatic mode without my knowledge / intervention (which also disrupted a meeting I was in when my alarm went off). Not sure if this is because I was using ActiveSync at the time...but this new ROM is IMHO not nearly as good as the stock one.
ROM is official via Verizon Support Page
Looks like Verizon has made this official. If you go to the support page on Verizon.com and click on software updates, it takes you to:
http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=136&cid=1&mid=364&carrier=Verizon Wireless
I took the plunge two days ago and upgaded to this new ROM. Wow, what an improvement! Maybe it's my imagination, but the device seems to run faster, the touch screen seems more accuate, expecially when typing and cell reception is better.
honestly...
and no disrespect to those who DID notice an improvement, but after flashing to this updated ROM and using my device as normal, i don't see any difference at all.
Sure, they fixed that issue when you first restore your sms database and it takes FOREVER to re-thread your messages...but now, i just see that they "fixed" it by stopping my restored messages from re-threading at all. so much for that..

For me, the Energy ROM is the best balance of performance and functionality. He provides several options and updates the ROMs frequently as new .cabs become available. The download links are in one of the first few posts in this thread:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=113971
According to the thread on the Official Sony Support Community by Lemon and updated by me, Here a thread trying to list all troubles on the 4.2.2 Official Update.
If you're using a custom ROM do not list your problem here because that can be specifically a problem on your ROM.
Gracenote Update
I had approxamitely 3200 songs in my library. I attempted to update the artwork and music info using the integrated 'Download music info' option (powered by Gracenote). This repeatedly fails and crashes, and somehow managed to wipe approximitely 40 artists from my library of 150 artists. I now only have 108 artists, and have lost a lot of music, which I had paid for or ripped from CDs. I now have to do rip these all over again, and I've also wasted a considerable amount of money on MP3s which have now been wiped by shoddy software!!! I just tried to update some more files, just this moment, and while it managed to update beyond 82/800 tracks, it then failed and gave me a 'Network Error' and advised that 2 tracks had been updated - despite that it had already attempted to update more than 82 tracks!!! It's massively buggy. Not going to use it anymore in fear that it wipes more of my library.
Walkman App
Sometimes shows '-1' artists in library. When tapping into the Artist list and coming back out again, this updates and shows the correct number of artists. Why would it EVER show that I have '-1' artists in my library?!?
Android Become Slow
I've had it after the update, if you feel that your android is very slow since the update, just go to the settings, select applications and "desactivate" some useless app that eats memory, be carefull what you're desactivating, you don't need to be rooted for doing that, that helped in my case.
Earpods/Headphones Compatibility
My previous handset was the 2011 'flagship' Xperia Arc. The stock headphones which came with this handset are of a much better build quality (and tangle a lot less easily) than the stock headphones which came with the Xperia Z. However, upon connecting the Xperia Arc headphones to the Xperia Z, I get a message saying 'Headset not supported. Use another headset or visit the Sony Mobile support site for more information'.
Many earpods/headphone seems to not be supported anymore under this update, Sony needs to fix that quickly that's really annoying.

MBS-100
Everytime I connect over Bluetooth to my MBS-100 (first generation) my WiFi crashes after about 4 minutes. Every time. This does NOT happen with my MBS-200. Seems Sony haven't put enough effort in testing support for their older devices/products, this is clearly also the case above with the stock Xperia Arc headphones.
SD Card bug surfacing
The Sony Xperia Z is suffering from a persistent hardware failure, which is inserted SD cards unusable. Most of time we need to reformat/restore it and in worst cases the SDCard is dead and you need to buy a new one.
I have this as well that asks me many times to check and verify my SDCARD when i use the MSC connection, if i don't do it i can't copy files on it.

Photo Album uploading with Facebook for Xperia
Tried uploading 31 pictures using the integrated share to Facebook for Xperia feature last night, on a FAST connection (Download Speed: 44.9MBPS / Upload Speed: 7.4MBPS) - 1 picture uploaded, service failed. Tried again, 2 pictures uploaded, service failed. Tried again, notification said 'Uploading pictures for about 18 minutes, before timing out and failing without uploading any pictures. Any pictures that did upload, did not upload in order either. After repeatedly attempting this about 30/40 times, I managed to upload about 17 of the 31 pictures, and had to connect by USB in order to do the rest. Seems like this feature was slapped on without any REAL testing by Sony.
Lockscreen Bypass
It is possible to bypass the lockscreen by typing '*#*#7378423#*#*' and doing an NFC test in the Service Tests menu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLq1gxIt5YQ) - this renders the handset COMPLETELY UNSECURE.

Stamina Mode / Battery Life
When first experiencing issues with my handset, a Repair was advised by support staff on the forum here, and official Sony Customer Support Staff. Following this repair, by battery life at 100% showed 4 DAYS AND 12 HOURS. A week later, on 100%, my battery life dropped to 2 DAYS AND 8 HOURS. Another week later, on 100%, my battery life is now showing 1 DAY AND 1 HOUR. All of these figures are with Stamina mode turned on. I haven't added anything to the handset to affect performance, it's simply degrading of it's own accord. Which makes me wonder why the support staff repeatedly assure us on these forums that 'the battery life will improve after a few charging cycles' - this is not the case, and there is CLEARLY a Power Management issue, which needs to be resolved.
LED Notification
Fortunately, I am not experiencing the LED issue that others have been. But it should be listed as others have been experiencing it.
Sleep of Death
Fortunately, I am not experiencing this issue. But it should be listed as others have been experiencing it, special mention for people who hard-bricked their phone, do not include that problem.
WiFi Signal Issues
Fortunately again, I am not experiencing any major WiFi issues. However, when uploading photos using Facebook for Xperia last night, it knocked off my WiFi twice for no reason. And I've also documented my WiFi issues in combination with Bluetooth to MBS-100 above.
Accessories
The 2011 flagship Xperia Arc came with quality headphones, a charger, and a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable for outputting to HDTVs. The 2013 flagship Xperia Z came with cheaper headphones, a charger and NO cable for outputting to my HDTV. I expected this to be included in the package, given the lofty pricetag, but now I realise I must go and buy an 'MHL Cable' - something I didn't even know existed until after I purchased the device. Thank you for not including this cable Sony.
If anyone has any further legitimate bugs/issues to add to the list above, let me know and I'll keep the OP updated.
If you know a fix i'll add a green comment.

Hi.
I'm on .423 and I don't seem to have the lockscreen bug.
In fact, I cannot dial any MMI codes using the emergency dialer.
On a side note, why is this tagged as [HELP THREAD]? There's already the help thread that I've started under stickies in the Q&A Section.

For the thread i've edited with [BUGS LIST] it was just for being easily found for people, if you have a better idea for my thread i'm open to any suggestions.

[BUGS LIST] seems appropriate enough?
EDIT: There's also this SD Card bug surfacing. I have this problem too.
A bit short on patience right now, so haven't tried fixing it yet. You could add this to the list.
Thanks a lot, SDCard bug surfacing added to the list with critical severity.

I'm Lemon, and these bugs have nothing to do with 4.2.2
I posted this in March, about 10 day's after the handset was launched, listing all the issues I found in the original 4.1 firmware, it's been updated a few times since.
With 4.2.2 I've only noticed a weird support issue where the software completely wiped me sd card of its own accord. I've lost ****loads of stuff as a result. It's only happened once though.
Still noticing the Walkman skipping during playback...
Some Home screen stuttering, nothing out of the ordinary for Sony.
Otherwise, 4.2.2 is much improved.
how are the lack of accessories, notably a mhl cable part of the bugs/issues with 4.2.2 ?
I don't know how to describe it wxactly but since the update (2 days ago), my phone has became super slow.
On 4.1 it was great never experienced any lag.. but now it feels like I'm holding my tired old phone again..
It goes from opening apps, through unsmoothly scrolling and floating around, to the lockscreen it self which can take about 3-8 seconds to show up image from black after pressinv power button to wake him up..
Also for unlocking, sliding up to move from lock screen to home screen can be laggy, stucky, and takes time...
Furthermore, WiFi signal (or atleast the icon showing) is poor and barely reaching my router when I'm 3 meters away..
As for not getting anything exciting from the update, or any changes, cool features from stock 4.2 (hmm som1 said notification toggles?) , I'm pretty disappointed, I would return back if that possible

Yep i've seen many people complaigning about that too, btw you can disable some useless app on settings => applications, select one and choose "desactivate" that's helepd so much for me.
what in the world.. and .423 just came to my phone updates and it's now stuck in the notification bar but seeing all these makes me doesn't want to update it anymore ._.
From last night i am facing a problem where when I connect my headset (samsung) to my xperia z1 it displays the error *Headset not supported. Use another headset or visit the Sony Mobile support site for more information.*
I used to use this headset everyday but unfortunately it had stopped working.
Further, if i use any other headset, it displays the same message.
I have not updated my phone nor have i installed any mod or app.
Can anyone tell me the fix please?
Thank you!!
Hello people i just received the OTA notification, but i'm worried to update, to be honest my phone worked pretty well till today and i'm very satisfied with it, but it's kinda annoying the notification popup , i tried to stop the service as well but it keeps popping out.
Anyways i bought this phone cause it's such a great phone for the price, and cause i knew it was going to get Lollipop update, and now that there is the update i'm kinda conflicted about so many differents comments around the forums, i checked here, some other forums, and on reddit but i couldn't find a proper review of the Pro/Cons to updating the phone to Lollipop 5.0.2 (most of the review i found were of the previous version of L, and i read that 5.0.2 got some major fixes ); so there's anyone that can kindly explain me if it regrets updating the phone, or what are the issues? battery life improvement? i know that it gets a better multitasking, but some people complain that is "sluggish"? also there's anyway to change or remove the white background from the app drawer?
thanks in advance for the help.
I updated my phone more than a month ago. At first the phone seemed sluggish ,as you said, and even after a full wipe things didn't get better. The thing is that after a few days the phone's performance was just as smooth as kitkat for me ( I guess the rom settled ) . Battery life is the same , although lollipop may seem to need more resources at times , and I also installed nova launcher with moonshine icon theme to get rid of the white app drawer background. In a nutshell , the only difference for me is the visuals / new features like ambient display which I happily use. I don't play games on my phone but I listen to music , watch videos on youtube and stay online for a few hours per day switching between apps. The only problem for me is the blurry camera ( which is also an issue on kitkat ) and the lack of actual silent mode.
ps. I would strongly recommend a full wipe before and after installing and disabling apps you dont need from settings in order to save battery and resources. Don't forget to back up everything before wiping / updating
It is worth it. The features and the UI are definitely great, but don't expect any real RAM improvements. Performance-wise, the phone still multitasks like my old Galaxy Y (which had 256mb of RAM), and I only keep WhatsApp on the background.
But hey, it's not any worse than KitKat and it's pretty, so I recommend it.
Agreed.
Material design looks good, performance is the same and so it's battery life (at least in my experience). I am happy with it.
I got the update 4 days ago and haven't had any problems. Is it faster? Hard to tell but it certainly isn't any slower.
Ram management for me is much better, no problems with multitasking, navigating listening to music, surfing the net, still shows 464Mbyte ram free and no restarts. No lag at all on any apps (59) all of which work fine.
Battery performance is in line with what I had on KitKat, which was pretty good, (Don't forget where you put your recharge cable). I have to admit that I am not a power user, (I can get up to 3 days out of one charge) but I use it a lot to record tracks with OruxMaps when I am walking, GPS on and screen off.
I don't use mobile data so have it turned off on all apps that use it, I have a separate mobile router (Much lower cost).
Finally from my experience I would say that updating was worth it, just to get rid of the terrible multitasking that came with KitKat 4.4.4.
