What are some of the best Root apps? - Thunderbolt Themes and Apps

Got my first smart phone. Thunderbolt. I'm a techno weeny so it's not really a transition, rooted the second day of owning it... Cake.
I am just trying to get some idea's of some good root apps out there.
So far I have, Root tools, wifi root tether, ROM manager, Root explorer, SetCPU, Terminal emulator.
Any thing out there I missed, or better then I have?

What do you want to do?

Maybe titanium backup pro?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App

ROOT EXPLORER awesome app
Quick Boot
Titanium Backup
Adb Wireless
Move cache for root users
startup manager

Buy the full version of Titanium Backup, restoring apps with free version blows the big one.
Also get AdFree Android

I want to do anything worth doing.
I am just trying to get an idea of the kind of root apps out there.

what is root explorer used for if i may ask?

It allows you to go into the phone system files and change/ modify things....not for the faint of heart BTW. It's like astro file manager on steroids. Once you start modding your phone this app is an absolute must have. Personally I think this app is as important to have on a smartphone as root permissions. Just my .02
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App

Yeah Root Explorer and Titanium Backup are by far my two favorite.
Beyond that setCPU just so I can OC when playing n64 *rocks out*

Titanium Backup is a must!

drocap2 or ShootMe are good screenshot apps. I like to have Custom Font Switcher so I can easily switch fonts. I use Wireless Tether for tethering. And of course TiBackup and Root Explorer.
Also AdFree is a must if your rom doesn't block ads automatically.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk

Adfree is a must even if you Rom does because you roms blocks go out of date.

does wifi root tether get around the 2gb verizon cap on data? (i know the vzw one is free right now until the 15th)

Yes, wi fi tether does get around the cap.

Thanks every one! Now I have to find a thread with some good info on what ROMs are the best...

For me I have
Titanium Backup pro version
Root explorer
Set CPU
ShootMe
Bloat freezer
Rom manager premium
Adfree

I don't thing the wireless tether app supports 4g at this time, but I could be wrong (no 4g in my area). The mobile hotspot does though until may 15 for free.

4G works in wireless tether, I actually get a faster connection than doing the hotspot feature. My laptop connects faster to the network on start up.

Cricket Bloatware Removal Thread

Need a file browser like root explorer to gain access to these directories!!
/data/flex/app
coconut_cricket_prod
major league bowling Bloatware game
MBO2_kyocera_m6000
uno_demo_kyocera Bloatware Game
zio top apps Bloatware App
I am not sure what the other two apps are but I copied pasted this from the middle of a thread... and since its always being asked figured I would make it easy to find!!!
Anyother Bloatware thats removable without messing up the system can be posted here and I will edit this beginning post to include it
oh and if you know what those two are please let me know and I will add it in
You can remove the Cricket apps using Uninstaller for Root.
Mobile Web
MyAccount
MyBackup
Home Screen Tips
Cricket Store
Both demos
ZioTopApps
You can also remove the NuAnce voice control but I recommend backing the bloat on the SD card.

I dont like uninstaler for root...way to easy to hose a phone as there's no confirmation... you click something on accident its gone.. which is going to lead to a ton of uninstaler/bricked phone threads
Sent from my Zio using XDA App
If you dont like Uninstaller for Root have fun deleting the bloat with something else. I only recommend it because it is alot easier to find MyBackup than it is to find something like coconut_cricket_prod_a2.0_v1.31_aligned.apk not only that but it lets you backup apks to sd card if you hold the app with a long tap
If you want to be brave you can find the apps in /data/FLEX/app/

It's a matter of preference. Both do the job. One is not better than the other. Anyone using either should know the risks.

Because the name is rediculous.
EDIT: I just got this to work and it seems great! To get it to work you need to press menu while in the app and go to settings. At the top of setting press change device-profile and choose Samsung Fascinate from the list and you are good to go (atleast it was for me).

thats cause they use ad hoc tethering which stock android doesnt support. You need infrastructure tethering which this apparently does....although I forgot to test it last night.

Exactly, i've tried some tweaks and apps which did not work until i stumbled
on this version. Google search, best thing ever.
FYI - This works for wifi on the Kindle whereas the old tether didn't. Make sure you go to settings and select the "device profile" to Samsung Fascinate.

Thanks for the tip! This works great! Been using the vzw hotspot hack but i would keep having data issues while using it. This is working flawless! Even played 2 hrs of Black ops on my ps3 with zero issues using this. I immediately uninstalled my old wireless tether v2.07 cuz although infrastructure was supposedly supported with it, I could never get it to work. Anyway, thanks a bunch for the find and sharing this with us.
Sweet, thank you OP! I was trying to get wireless tether to work for 3 days now.
Great find, man. This works so much better for me than barnacle. Thanks for sharing.

Best wifi tethering app for un-rooted Thunderbolt?

Hello,
My TB is not rooted. What do you think is the best app for doing wireless tethering? Setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot, I guess.... I'm using a windows 7 PC.
Just do a search for "tether" in the Google Play Store.. I'm rooted.. but the free "clockworkmod (no root)".. looked like it might do the trick, it uses Usb instead of WiFi.
I found the stock app from Verizon to work well before they axed the ability to use it without paying for the service. It was very easy to set up the SSID and password and even monitor the connected devices IIRC.
Root ur phone ur missing out on so much

I tried out clockworkmod's Tether. It works pretty well, although it does disconnect every once in a while, and it's USB, so my bandwidth is limited by that. Also, it's not as convenient as WiFi.
ArmyAg08-
Yes, this is kind of the type of thing I'm looking for. Not Verizon though.
jonah1234-
I'm not quite ready to root this phone yet. But when I do, what would you recommend for a WiFi tether?
Have you tried 1-Click Wifi Tether No Root?
If you go to the play store and search no root tether, it should be the second option down.
I know several people who use this and are satisfied with it.
If you do root your phone in the future, I recommend either WiFi Tether for Root Users or Barnacle WiFi Tether.

1-Click Wifi Tether No Root apparently does not work on HTC phones. If anyone knows a workaround to this, please let me know, as 1-Click Wifi Tether No Root seems to be a great app.
And thanks for the info about the rooted apps -- I may try them in the future
I forgot about that. Lol. They don't have HTC phones.
Anyways, just search no root tether in play store and try what's available.
Good luck.

Unfortunately, there seems to be NO way to utilize the WiFi Hotspot Tether on HTC Thunderbolt anymore, rooted or not.
All of the existing WIFI tether apps do not do anything on HTC Thunderbolt. I've tried them all, on multiple ROMs.
The ONLY things I've found that still work are the PRO versions of EasyTether and PdaNet, via USB cord.
I'm still trying to get the bluetooth tether for PdaNet to work, but so far without much success.
I can't wait until next year to get a new phone that I can actually root and wifi-hotspot again.
According to the Foxfi app it's an HTC block not TB specific. That being said I blue tooth tether with no issues at all both CM7 and with Sense roms. I don't even use a special app with CM7 just make devices discoverable and pair, BAM! some native Bluetooth tether automatically kicks in on CM7 and with Sense I use the Foxfi app and follow the blutooth tether instructions. Make sure your devices have tun.ko installed (use tun.ko installer app in the play store). My tablet didn't (asus transformer tf101) so I had to and root is required to do it.

It had tried a number of others in the past and they had issues tethering my Asus tablet. Open Garden was about the only one that worked.

Hi there guys,
Which ROMS are you running on your TBolts? I am running Synergy, and like I say it was working up until a couple of weeks back, and now no go. Perhaps I need to switch ROMS or something. I find it strange that several of us are having issue. At any rate, it is very interesting indeed.

So anyone know how to get around Verizon's root check. I get the following message when trying to watch stuff we've bought using their media manager app.

Usually you rename the superuser.apk file to something else, like superuser.bk, but this also disables superuser. It would be something you switch every time you want to use the app, then switch back when you're done. Not sure if this works for that Verizon app, but it's how people have gotten around root checks before.

It's certainly one solution, but most Superuser apps have a temporary unroot feature that will take care of this for you, which can be a lot safer than monkeying around with your APKs if you don't know what you're doing. There are also some good apps out there that can hide an active root, although it's been some time since I've had to use them.
