Hello people so after a year of messing around I finally got my gps to lock. The problem is that it is not 100%, sometimes it locks and sometimes it doesn't. So my question is like WM is there any way to check and setup aGPS correctly on your XV6900.
I am currently using android 2.2 and I get locks sometimes using GSP test app. It also take anywhere for 1-20 min and I have to be outside the whole time. I think the having the aGPS configured right will be nice. Please help! I will really appreciate it. Another thing I have androind on my rom and no WM installed on the device.
I use GPS Status and Toolbox. You can find it in the market, just search "GPS" its free.
So still did not find a solution. What does work though is using GPS Status and Toolbox manually updating A-GPS the using GPS test to lock. This gives the fastest results. For sime reason GPS Status and Toolbox takes a long time to lock compared to GPS test. I also like the UI of GPS test better.... well this problem is some what solved.

Android so far as far as I can determine does NOT support using a Bluetooth GPS for the location data but I'm hoping maybe Froyo does..
The GPS built into phones is fine for car nav and some low-resolution stuff, but to have any accuracy or hold a decent lock under heavy foliage or urban jungles a bluetooth GPS with a dedicated chipset is necessary.
I geocache a lot, and my Holux 236 has never failed me, it always has lead me right to where a geocache is, yet my Nexus One tonight the heading and distance stuck, stuttered, seemed to be 20+ feet off at times, and almost IMMEDIATELY went stupid after going under foliage.
I've seen a few programs that'll use Bluetooth GPS themselves, but they are one-off programs which use the GPS directly, not replace the internal GPS data with the Bluetooth GPS data which is what I really need.
Anyone with Froyo and a bluetooth GPS?
i would like to know to
The answer was no... Still an open issue, probably will remain an open issue.

Looks like there's maybe two possibilities, one open-ended "I have solved this" with no real info, and another "Bluetooth GPS Mouse" app in market that is said to work. I'm going to try.
So far this seems to work! I've got an email out to the author, I'll post some more on it soon.
Pretty slick the way he's done it, I have a question out to how automatic the GPS connection/redirection is upon reconnection of the device (ie: do you need to reconnect it manually or is it automaic) and if it's not automatic right now, I'll stress that it needs to be.
It did immediately get coordinates when I connected it to my Holux 236, where the internal would take 10-15+ seconds and the coordinates would wander around for a while. This got coordinates and they stuck... I watched carefully and I saw the latitude go .605 to .606 then back to .605 a few times.. I didn't make sure they were accurate yet, I'll do that later, but by eyeball they were.
It doesn't seem to report sats fixed nor sat signal levels.. I'm concerned this might make some apps think there is no fix and wait forever for it. GeOrg and GPS Test seemed to not care, they reported the right location and it seemed to work.
I did not put it through any real life tests, just sat in my car in the parking lot at work and checked out my location.
I'm concerned if other important info like altitude, bearing, and speed are reported. I'll update when I get a response to the email of course.
One more thing I forgot to ask but I'll see in practice is if using this I can still use the electronic compass. Not that it's great, but it is convenient. Honestly though I'll still be happy without it.
There is a free trial that disconnects every 10m, or a 2 euro paid version. Very reasonable.
Author responded, he sounds right on top of the current limitations and is working on them. I suspect once he has worked on this a tad more, it'll work great. Give the trial version a try and see how it works!
I found that nearly all of my geocaching programs "just work", no fuss. I found that Google Earth gets an accurate fix but can't seem to find "My Location". Both seem to be because he's working on getting the satelite fix data into the program, if possible. Right now it reports 0.
Built-in compass still works fine!
He'll be working on automatic reconnection after he tweaks a few more things and sees what kind of efficiencies he can make and bugs he can drive out.
I was successfully using GPS Mouse with stock Eclair 2.1 & my GlobalSat Bluetooth GPS with my running program.
I have since flashed to Froyo JPO rom & now when I try & use the program I feel a vibration in the phone, the screen soon goes black & then does a mini re-boot & back to my home screen again??
I done some google searches but cannot seem to find an answer to thsi particualr issue

I'm using Bluetooth GPS Provider now, it works FLAWLESSLY, start and forget it while I'm using the GPS. Even if the GPS disconnects, phone is in standby extended periods, etc, always immediately reconnects and works.
As for your specific problem, dunno, but give it a try.

I have the same problem, anyone a solution ? Please ....
Try Bluetooth GPS Provider, it works awesome for me. Reconnects immediately, works great.
If you have a ROM-specific issue, you need to talk to the ROM cook.
Hi,
I got a Samsung Galaxy S here in Australia, rooted it and upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 I know that GPS worked just fine with 2.1, I was able to walk home and see my position updating very nicely on Google maps
Since updating to 2.2, GPS hasn't worked at all. When I turn it on, and start an application that uses GPS (Navigation, Maps, etc), the GPS icon sits there and flashes back and forth between those two types of icons and I don't get anything on the maps which shows me where I am. I haven't chased this up since upgrading, but it's starting to bug me now
After searching these forums for 'gps not working', I've pulled down the 'GPS test' application and I don't know for sure, but it appears to find one satellite:
PRN SNR Elev Azim Flags
2 11.0 74.0 150.0
But the GPS icon just sits there flashing back and forth.
I may have missed something since upgrading, do I need to do something to the phone to get my GPS working again?
Thanks!
OK, I seem to have fixed the problem I turned on "Use wireless networks" and voila! I now have successful GPS lock and position in my maps
I would have thought that you could use GPS without having "Use wireless networks" turned on!?

Wouldn't call it a successful GPS lock. Since you got it with the mobile networks. (in my case when I use it . the accuracy in my village is about 1000-1500m since the BTS is that much far from me )
So if you get into an area with weak mobile networks, wont help you much .
Wouldnt call this as resolved with "BAD GPS" cuz your GPS still sucks as before (and doesnt work , you just found a workaround that was there also before , 2.2.1 has even some other function for GPS that tries to fix it (or help?) )
But since you can use it now, its ok I guess . OH and there are kinda almost no real fixes for this. Most of SGS GPS suck . There is GPS aids, shutting down wifi, GPS status app, changing the something according to your country.
Ok!
I got the same problem as the user from the post.
GPS worked like a charm on my Galaxy S (NDrive or Google) running 2.1.
I updated it to Froyo 2.2.1 JS7 and since then it doesn`t work anymore.
I can't get a fix.
I did the GPS position test and It locks on 8 satelites. Why the F%CK it doesn`t work anymore?
I am almost going back to Eclair.
Any sugestions?
TY!
So you get a lock when doing the GPS test, but no luck in any other applications? I couldn't get a lock at all until I turned on my wireless as well as the GPS, then it worked for GPS test as well as applications...
I get a lock on 8 satelites on the Location Test with and without "Use Wireless connections".
BUT
I can't get a lock when I am using Google maps, with or without "Use Wireless connections".
I bought the AIDS GPS app on Market, but it did't work neither.

I also installed GPS Aids and paid for it.
This program does automatic changes to your GPS settings.
Maybe it works for you.
Hello,
So, as the title tells, i've got some GPS issues since i'm using custom rom (both TW and AOSP ).
Nearly each time, it takes up to 15 Minutes before the first lock is made. So the usage of Google maps or any "speed control" apps is quite impossible.
I tried GPS status app and let it download new AGPS data. But even when I am outside it finds only 1/2 satellites without fix.
I think i'm gonna reverse to a Stock ROM tonight in order to test if it's really rooting problem.
Anybody has an other idea ?
Thanks,
It's closed now .
It was an hardware problem.
Helllo,
Please, i need an advice with my S3 Mini.
I use it for a long time for navi with several app : Waze, Igo, etc.
In the last two weeks, i had big problems with connection to satellites. He founds satellites but can`t connect.I made the test with another S3 Mini, in the same time/place and it found more satellites and also connect to them.
What can i do? It could be a hardware or a software problem?
Here is also a screenshot from a GPS testing app.
Thanks a lot !
get gps status from market delete and redownload gps data and put outside for ten minutes to try to get a lock.. if not and you are rooted you can get lbstest mode and go through and check gps settings after copying it to system and create an activity shortcut using the anycut widget..
I`m not rooted.
I used Gps Status from market. It works for the moment but at the next use, the problem come back.I use it again and after few minutes, it works again. It could be a problem with the phone or with the software?
Thanks again !

are you moving between uses. it is a known issue that if you move too far it takes a long time to get a lock.. that is why on my phones i change the settings from hot start to cold start.. this may take a little longer with each time but doesnt rely on the last position to get a new lock.. but you need to be rooted to copy lbstestmode to system and samsung in their brilliance removed it from newer phones..
I've got a Droid 4 running the latest CM11 (Version 11-20150626-SNAPSHOT-XNG3CA01L8-MASERATI), the stock version is also the latest (Version.98.72.188.XT894.Verizon.en.US ). My problem is the GPS flat out does not work. If I try to use GPS navigation it will show "Searching for GPS" forever, I've tried leaving it for over an hour and it still never finds signal. I installed GPS Status and Toolbox that will show "Looking for GPS location" for hours with nothing ever found. I've tried this both in CM11 and on stock. On pretty much every phone I've owned (Droid, Droid 3 and now Droid 4) the GPS has always been flaky and slow, usually toggling the GPS on and off or rebooting the phone would fix the issue, but this no longer seems to work.
Has anyone seen something like this before? Are there any workarounds?
Thanks for any help.
GPS functionality of phones is allergic to you. Try giving your phones away and see if the new owners have trouble with gps

GPS was also pretty bad for me. Especially when you do not have gapps installed. What helps a lot, is installing SatStat (see fdroid.org) and set the "Update frequency" to "Every time", as well as enabling the update on all networks ("Networks"). This will download AGPS data needed to fix to satellites every time you turn on GPS.
An even more important thing to do, is have the time set correctly! Usually modern android versions would use ntp to do that. With gps it is extremely helpful to select a timeserver close to you. Every millisecond counts. I have NTPSync installed to help with that.
With time set and AGPS data reloaded I actually get pretty good results nowadays. And that is with no gapps installed, which usually helps as it initializes the GPS with a rough location based on your wifi and cell towers currently in "view". As you can see though, you kinda need internet to get a good fix. At least you should set the time regularly when on Wifi and download AGPS there.
I do use this though to help with network location: https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=com.google.android.gms So this might also be helping with the location quite a bit. (not needed if you got gapps though).
Hope this all makes sense.
