LauncherPro Battery usage - Nexus S Themes and Apps

I saw a post somewhere that insinuated that launcherPro used more battery than the stock launcher, thus decreasing battery life.
Have any of you any comments regarding this? I have always been a LauncherPro user and i have always complained about battery life with various devices ( I found the HTC Inspire almost unusable because of poor battery life and the Atrix was a similar experience and even my broken HTC desire Z was borderline for battery).

I recently switched back to the stock launcher (albeit without actually uninstalling Launcher Pro) and I can't say I've noticed any difference in battery life.
I would say though that using the LP Pro widgets for Friends and having that do frequent sync checks will chew through some battery life, if you didn't have similar widgets on the go in the stock launcher.

I just got worse framerates when using Launcherpro, no battery drain though.
It was a must on the HTC Hero, on the nexus S its kind of pointless i guess.

Depends on the live wallpaper itself, I'd say read the comments on the one you might be interested in (in the market) and see what people say about its impact on battery life
from experience, id say it doesn't affect battery life all that much, but puts a MAJOR drain on performance, i used to use the microbes live wallpaper, and the ui was slow and laggy, after losing it, was buttery smooth but i guess that it does depend on the specific one you use
You know you can check this down to an exact percentage with multiple third-party battery apps, right?
i am using Koi fish live wallpaper...very sligh impact on the battery...but i always use live wallpapers...it never showed up in the battery graphs in settings
Post 2 and 4, your assumptions don't provide any information on the topic. if all the comments on Market only provide, "works great!, nice, sucks, thanks!", how does that help with diagnostics? and do provide you screen shot of a graph showing the wallpaper running...
@ coffmad and viny2cool,
I'm using a very minimal animated wallpaper. when you touch something on the screen is the only time it moves. and when it moves, again, its minimal as far as animations are concerned. so i'm thinking no significant battery drain.
Another thing I always wanted to know is, when you have an app on the foreground, does an animated wallpaper work in the background?
I was wondering the same thing. I have used a live wallpaper before on my phone (Epic 4g) and found it to take about a 7-10% hit on battery life through out the day. I decided it was too much do to the amount that I use my phone throughout the day. But I've thought about putting one on my TP. If it's less than 5% then I'm in.

Root v ROM - Battery Life

I rooted my Vivid (AT&T) a long while back, flashed a custom kernel (Faux 007) and tweaked it a fair bit for a cleaner look and better battery life. It helped. Some.
I have work apps installed that are a pain to get authorized and reinstalled, so I'd rather not go through the trouble again if I don't have to. However, I would like to get better battery life out of my phone if I could.
So, anyone have any experience on battery life of root vs ROM? Any particular ROMs/kernels for fantastic battery life? I'm not using sense widgets so doesn't matter if it's sense or stock UI.
TIA

Not to get off topic here, but is WCX a sense based ROM?

Personally, the Holics ROM 1.3 with Holics 0730 kernel has worked great for me.
SetCPU to control CPU frequency: Max 1.5GHZ, min 350MHZ.
I used the Intellidemand governor, and noop scheduler.
I do NOT use task killers.
I use Lux Auto Brightness to control my screen brightness (highly recommend it!).
I use the APN Switch widget to turn my APN off when not in use (basically always unless I'm sending/receiving an MMS)
I close my apps when I'm done with them.
There is also an app called Llama that you can use to control all kinds of things, like turning wifi on and off based on the time of day and/or your location, etc. It's pretty cool, but I don't use it presently. Here are two examples of my battery life, with moderate usage.
Then ya'll will hate this one. I'm running wahjee's 1.6 de-sensed ROM with everything on. Live wallpapers, notifications, widgets galore and a lot of use...

with rom and battery life it is easier to try the different ones for yourself to see which gives you better life, each device and person will have different experiences. I had good experiences with all of them but what worked good for me may not for you.

Agreed. I think more than anything it comes down to two things: your screen-on time, and your cell-searching time. If you are in a low-signal area a lot (like the woods or a basement, or worse - a basement in the woods (!!!)) you can expect to get poor battery life on just about anything. Also, if you're playing angry birds every waking moment, you're going to bleed your batter dry. Simple as that.
If you live in a good signal area, and have screen brightness as low as possible, you're already in a good spot. Any tweaks you can do might help, but probably not by 12+ hours.

You know, that's probably my number one issue, I just hadn't thought about it that way. On weekends, I easily last the whole day and have 40% or more left. At work, it's dying fast and often unless I plug it in while I'm at my desk. I'm away from windows and 11 floors up, so the signal is pretty poor.
In normal situations, the battery life does seem improved with the kernel I am using and the rooted/cleaned up bloat. But since I spend most of my time sitting in this chair with almost no signal, I notice that the most.
And as for trying out other ROMS, well we'll see when my contract is up and I pick up another phone so I can tinker to my hearts content while keeping a pristine phone for work. I just don't have the leeway to bork my phone right now.

When you were using faux's kernel did u remember to rename "mpdecision" and "thermald" to "mpdecison_dis" and "thermald_dis"? Cause that would also be why you didnt really see a bigger difference in performance with his kernel.

PACman ROM. this thread is sorta old, but yeah

Which battery app?

Hi, lovely folks at XDA!
Well, I am a happy little monkey after having flashed Ultimate ROM JB v5 on my Note and seeing how pretty much everything important and relevant works like a Swiss watch!
Of course, battery life is very good, but as we (I) are never satisfied, I have to ask you folks what battery saver app would you recommend?
I have used Battery saver app by Antutu, and it is very simple and gives great results..
Is there any app you would think would do a better job-what app do you prefer to defend your battery juice?
Many thanks!
Do some googling concerning 'battery savers for android' and you might change your mind.
I'm a non believer to be honest but that's just me.
->] [ALLIANCE] [ICS] [FINAL] [<-
Oh, I did google..
I think they still extend it battery life a bit, I notice that when I see that battery is near empty, like 10% and then I switch off the batter saver app, and it depletes much faster...
Now, I don't know how much they help to prolong battery life when the user is full on using the Internet, navigation apps, camera, etc. You know, real life, heavy duty apps....
But, when in my pocket/not actually being used for anything except SMS checking/replying, and those similar tasks, I think these apps can save some battery percentages...

Battery Life stinks and phone gets hot

My battery life is pretty terrible. Running stock, power saver, and Snapdragon battery guru. I have to charge the phone 2-3 times a day. I use in moderately to light through the day. At night, it will drain almost completely while I'm asleep. I had a Nexus 4 before and battery life was way better than this, same location, same apps, etc. I don't feel like I should need to turn data and wi-fi off to get more than 6 hours of virtually idle phone life from this device. Is this typical?
I find the phone is hot a lot too, when I am not even using it.
Please try to find out what causes this drain with the following app and post results after 1 unloading cycle

I downloaded it. Shut phone off and letting it charge, then going to see how fast it drains. To boot, its been on the charger for 2 hours and it has gone from 9% to 62%. Something must be wrong.
With stock my phone battery life sucked as well.that's why I rooted it and running a sense 5 Rom.. and it's so smooth I have my kernel UC to less than one gig speed and it still move fast without the overheat

Definitely not typical...
I'm fully stock and not rooted. If I dont touch my phone it can last over 24 hours with data on (noticed this one weekend when I was too busy to play with the phone).
I use the Battery Widget Reborn app and it says a "Fully charged battery usually lasts: 18 hours 8 minutes" for me.
Sounds like theres definitely some kind of app in the background thats draining your battery and making your phone hot.
This is pretty typical battery life for me with data always switched on on a rooted stock 4.2.2 rom and was also pretty much identical on an unrooted stock 4.1.2 rom.
The main thing that saves me a ton of battery life is disabling apps that I don't use. By far and away the Facebook app is a massive culprit for killing battery life.
I'm very interested to see the gsam results when you post them.

I did this procedure that HTC instructed me to do to reset the battery/charging system. I think it may have worked. No excessive heat and a drastic improvement in battery life. I've attached a screen shot of the gsam though. Just curious what you thought of the results

You are getting decent battery life. What most here would call bad. That looks like my phone, though. So, you're average.

Well it's a definite improvement over the sort of battery life you were describing before. There are always ways of improving battery life but as has been said many times before it's all a case of where and how you use your phone that will be the main factor.

Those on Lollipop, has battery life changed?

One of the key features of Lollipop is Project Volta, which is supposed to improve battery life, specifically standby time. I know the update has only been out a few days, but for those that have it, how much has your battery life improved?
It seems drastically better for me. Enough so that I'm going to keep the phone after thinking about getting rid of it after early battery life underwhelmed me. Where I used to finish the day at 10% or so, I'm now closer to 30-40%.
What I've found is that L without Greenify has battery life like Kitkat did with Greenify. Now that we have root we'll see if greenify makes it even better.
It's been a solid improvement for me, at least when I'm connected to wifi and the phone isn't being actively used. Probably only losing about 1% an hour now, as opposed to more like 3% before.
Project Volta optimizes battery consumption but app developers have to support the APIs, see here:
https://developer.android.com/about/versions/android-5.0.html#Power
So, basically, Google and Motorola apps probably already use this, but battery life will not be so much better until app developers introduce support for these APIs

Battery Issues
I may be in the minority here, but my battery life has significantly decreased since the update. I don't have specific figures but I do know that on normal usage, whereas my battery used to be at about 70% after approximately 4 hours, it's now down to about 50%. I suspect it is due to some apps that are not optimized for 5.0 that are restarting again and again in the background. Either way, I hope this issue is corrected because I am having a hard time walking away from the charger for very long.
Mine is much better then before on KK.
