I searched for this in the aria category but couldn't find anything relevant.
I just installed the CM7 RC4 rom and am quite happy with it, I've been searching ways to customize it the way I want. While researching I found this 3d home screen replacement called SPB Shell 3d and watched a youtube video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVU84J1ShSQ
It looks pretty awesome but costs $15. What do you think? Is it worth it? Are there any cyanogen mod ways to get a 3d homescren, will it even run on the CM7 rom? Anyone tried this?
Thanks
I tried it for about 5 min. Runs a little laggy on my aria, but way cool. Buy it, try it out. you can always return it within the 15 min.
Also, try Launcher Pro Plus or ADW EX
It looks pretty cool, but way overpriced. I'd be surprised if you could get it running smoothly on the Aria.
Along with Launcher Pro and ADW Ex, you should also check out GO! Launcher Ex.
WidgetLocker Lockscreen is pretty good as well.

Tried it running at 768mhz with SMARTASS governor. Once it's running it's not too laggy but it doesn't seem to stay in memory very well and there aren't many setting for it. When you open a program outside of Shell 3D there is a bit of a delay to return to the Home screen (any screen). It runs not as smooth as the video but somewhat smooth non the less. It definitely was not made for the Aria.

Bought it, tried it, like it. Not laggy and I am running FR008, no oc. Still $15 is a bit much, but...biggest draw back is i wish it had more widgets. Their WM version had more stuff but still looking for more to replace the stockj Sense UI or Launcher Pro / LP SenseUI theme.
I suppose as a first release not bad, runs fine, but want more stuff.
Thanks.

i too agree with him... the price is too high... u can get sam things without payin for it only prob is that sometimes it gives an error but using terminal emulator u can go back to homescreen of spbshell 3d
Gave it a 48 hour go around. Conclusion...
Used a lot of memory.
No options.
Performance wasn't terrible once it warmed up.
Wouldn't recommend it to anyone though.
Returned back to LP+ for now.
Let it burn....
I've run this for few days now on CM 7.0.0. After using the phone for 12 hrs without reboot for the last 2 days it's running like a champ. Using Rover theme, Destop VizualizeR for pantera70's icons, etc. Battery life took a hit for the first day. Let it burn down to almost nothing, wipe your cache and reboot a couple of days in a row and then "butter"!

You're absolutely right
Tried this on FR008 and CM7 - runs smooth as butter
The only problem is lack of options and automatic arrangement of screen (a bit annoying)

i know hurts my eyes looking at it. supposed to give excellent battery life though.
no it does not, i ran a test (its in the general section) because of the "render" it slows your phone down considerably and wastes cpu cycles ergo negating any battery life you would have saved (if you had an oled screen), but since we have an lcd screen EVERY pixel is lit up regardless if its in use or not. i had 29 hours with almost no use, people on here get longer then that with a bit of use...
TL: DR slows your phone down, does make it look cool if your into that, but it doesnt save battery from what ive seen
I would love this app and I dont care if it kills my battery. The green is nice for using screen at night. Better then white screen at night. So do we have a answer where can we get it? Running droidX.
If you are using CM6, it is in Settings > Cyan Settings > Render effect.
You can also add a render fx widget to your home screen. Add it like any other widget.

You're right. The whole idea of showing only one color exploits the technology of OLED and its ability to only light up pixels on demand. LCD works by having the entire backlight always on, with polarizers selectively attenuating the light appropriately for each pixel. That's why LCD cannot achieve true black like OLED, and that's why OLED contrast ratio tests destroy LCD.
Since our Hero has the latter technology, this has absolutely no positive effects for us. Don't use it unless you like less colors.
So I have torn apart most of cyanogenmod's roms and settings trying to find this. So if anyone has it please upload that would be awesome

i actually used to use this for getting late night calls in bed and it hasn't worked properly after one of the many updates since August. Once the phone unlocks its back to normal. Anyone else?
just bought it. i think it just came out today. went in the application and clicked on "download rom" downloaded silent hill. 8 parts and there in rar format and 40mb each :O but when i click on "PSX bios file" it wont let me load the rar. doesnt even show it. it says "you must specify a bios file(normally named scph1001.bin)" i have no clue what to do. any idea????? thanks
Find a bios file online and set that as the bios in the emulator and u should be good to go. Try freeroms.com or just google psx bios. Be careful tho lots of bad files out there.

Yeah, just google scph1001.bin and when it asks for the BIOS, load it.
hey thanks guys for your help. i got it to work. tomatosoup was having the same problem. i loaded up the bios then hit menu and loaded up the iso and it didnt work, just quickly exited out. so i hit home and killed the app with a task killer and loaded the app back up and instead of clicking on the bios i clicked on the iso and it loaded right up. took a sec but it loaded.
Right on man let us know how it works for you. I hope its good cuz I may purchase it myself.

Hi, there!
Before I get started here, let me apologize if this subject has been covered before. I can't seem to get the forum keyword search function to return any results--at all- and I don't have time to read pages and pages of threads to find what I'm looking for. If there is a better place for this, please let me know.
I'm new to the Nook Color, and I'm running CM7 nightly release from 07/02/11. I love it, but I have some questions and a comment.
When the app drawer is open and you long-press an icon, it used to put a shortcut to that app on the homescreen. now it brings up this weird little submenu... What exactly does, "Choose Catalog", mean and what does it do for us? I REALLY miss that long-press to add shortcut to homescreen thing. Is there a setting that I can change to re-enable it?
Is there a specific thread to use to give feedback and ask questions about the nightlies' that is for the Nook Color only? I saw one for the nightlies, but it seemed that it was mostly irrelevent to us since all manner of devices--includung phones-- were being discussed.
I've just been using the CM7 nightly releases with Google Apps installed. Am I missing something by not installing Dalingrin's clockwork mod kernel? I was afraid that it was a replacement--not an addition-- for the CM7 nightly build. Should I install it? I'm sure I'd like to overclock my Nook to over a gigahertz, but I wouldn't like losing the stability and fumctionality of the nightly build I'm using.
Thanks in advance for any assistance y'all can offer.
Looks like the launcher is sorta corrupt. Try a different launcher that will work. Go Launcher EX (free) on the Market. Launcher Pro Plus is the best I think but it costs a little amount. Oh, but if you want to really stick with the stock launcher, go into Settings>Applications>All>ADW Launcher. And uninstall it. Then re-flash CM7 Nightly + Gapps and it should be restored.
First... on the launcher screen... use menu... more.... make sure homescreen is not locked.... Then it will do as you're used to regarding placing on launcher screen.
Actually... you don't have to unlock desktop... just wiggle finger when the menu you are talking about is up.... you will have to unlock desktop to move the item or delete it if you want.
Now I will edit this to answer more... just wanted it posted before you did anything as drastic as replacing or reinstalling your launcher...
The CM7 user thread in the Nook Color section is a great place for discussing all things NookColor CM7 related.
What the catalog does is....
You can place apps in a catalog... then when you're in app drawer then the left and right app launcher buttons turn to < >... use them to move between catalogs... ALL apps will still show everything... but in each catalog will show only the apps you add to it... so you can create a catalog called "Utils" and place all the Nook Color and CM7 utilities in it... scroll to is and ONLY those apps will show on the screen.
As for Dalingrin's OC kernel... if you're not using it and his NookTweaks... you are TRULY missing out... STRONGLY encouraged to use them.
Oh and don't OC past 1.2 GHz in NookTweaks.... it will give you SOD every hour.
Thanks for the quick response. I didn't know about the long-press-and-wiggle technique, and it worked like a champ.
Do I have to start over to install Dalingrin's mod? Does it replace this operating system entirely?

That is a pretty dumb blanket statement especially when there is a percentage of users who have hit 1.3GHz and higher without getting a sod. I get them less then once a day. I used to get them as often when I was at 1.2GHz. So please don't misinform people

Well, when I went any higher than 1.2 GHz, I got sod every other hour. When I clocked up to 1600 Mhz, the thing got SOD like every 5 minutes.
EDIT: @PoisonWolf, do you know how to get up to 1.6 GHz no SOD? I would love to be faster than the Flyer... which is double the price.
C'mon, people. We provide feedback based on our own experiences and it's not always 100% true but still, no need to use harsh words to correct the mis-info. Be nice and together we can build a strong community.
Anyway, even though I'm using Dalingrin OC 063001 version and nookcolortweak installed, I cannot ever seen any option to overclock greater 1200MHz, how do you guy get up to 1.3GHz, left alone 1.6GHz? What kernel do you use?

Well, to be able to get up to 1.6ghz, that is really the luck of the draw. I would gather that the manufacturing process is not perfect and not all chips can achieve such speeds. If anything, I would imagine there to be a range on the "limits" of these chips.
I found out that mine was 1350 mhz. No matter what I did, anything higher than that resulted in clunky responses, choking, skipping, etc.
I was hoping I'd get something in the 1.5 ghz range, but ah well.
Thus, I now run it at 1.3 ghz ondemand!
Just tinker around with the combinations / voltages / governors to see what your true limitation is. While you are doing this, do NOT set anything ON BOOT.

What do you expect? At least you should install the 0013d/2708 combo to get additional 15MB RAM, otherwise Gingerbread ROMs will be slow, especially when you enable swap. If you would like to try out a GB ROM on your G1 you should go with ezGingerbread or one of it's variants. Just my 2 cents.
i might get rid of the g1. I saw on youtube peoples were running fast but mine is unusable except to text and make calls and even those apps are slow.

Have you tried updating your SPL/radio and ROM? Froyo ROM is pretty fast.
the phone is posted for 10 times .
and I find that the cyanogenmod 5 is very fast .
you can try.
the android system is 2.1 .
well if you have the time you could solve your problem quite easy.
root, change firmware and radio, and install a newer and tweaked rom like Laszlos' rom or froyo for trout. these are quite reliable.
This phone really isnt slow. It all depends on a persons needs as a cellphone user. For me its perfect. I dont play games, or run ram intensive apps. The new year has been a little rough so far but so far things are good. Just keeping busy as ever with work. Making up for all the time off and christmas $$ I spent on my 3 1/2 year old this year. lol And some how I still manage to find time to mess with all this phone stuff. lol

Glad to see your still hanging in there. Also yes Christmas was extra expensive this year for me as well. But its so worth it to see my nieces and nephews smile.
