I synced about 3,00 songs to my Xoom and the Xoom refused to play 100 of them. All the songs were standard mp3s that I ripped myself. If I copied the files back to my PC, they play fine.
In an effort to fix this, I cleared the data of the Media Storage and Music app. The Xoom is now rebuilding the music, but new files are showing up in the music player with an unknown artist and these tracks give me an error trying to play. Strangely enough, the player recognizes the album art, album title and name. Just not the artist.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is their a work around? I have tried other music players, but all yield the same result.

Someone posted a similar issue several weeks ago. Try downloading PowerAmp from the market and see if they play. It seems the stock player cannot play everything.

Thanks for the tip. That did the trick. I just wish the stock player worked because it has a much more tablet friendly interface.
thx this happened to me too. my evo, xbox and pc can play all of my music but for some reason my xoom cant play about 3 albums
For those still having this issue, I have isolated my issue. While all the mp3 files that have given me problems play fine everywhere else, the Xoom is a little more particular. This happened to me years ago with one of my iPods.
I tried resyncing the files. I tried editing and updating the track tags and album art, but none of that worked. Finally, I reripped an album and that did it. Most of my mp3s were ripped 10 years ago by the old musicmatch program. That has caused problems in the past, but none for quite a while. I have successfully synced about 20 of the 100 songs that were giving problems.
If it matters, I have used Windows Media Player and iTunes to rip the problem songs.
Yeh IV found these problems are 99% due to problematic rips. These days I just use windows media player on mp3 320 then mp3tag to change any additional.al stuff or embed the album art.
Some programs don't correctly meet the standard and some staggers just make a mess.

I have converted from an iPhone to the HTC Fuze. I still have some audio files that are .mp4. I am interesting in playing audio more than video. Can I get the stock player to play these?
If not, what is the best player to download (for free) for playing audio .mp4 files?
Thanks
If they are DRMed, you'll have to search on how to un-DRM them (I wouldn't ask about that here though). If they are not DRMed, you can play them in Windows Media Player.
I know about the DRM thing, but last time I checked, Windows Media does not play mp4. Am I wrong?
With regard to audio files from iTunes (m4a/AAC/mp4 or whatever you want to call them), they will play just fine via the music player interface in Touch Flo 3d. The only problem I've encountered is that for some reason the audio manager will not sort songs in track order. As yet I have not found a fix for this (and no one else seems to be asking about it either). Still, at least I didn't have to convert my iTunes library into MP3 files ; )
Purchased tracks will not play (in fact they will not even be visible).
Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a coding/decoding algorithm mainly used by iTunes to protect the artist and to ensure that the artist gets money for his work since you as a consumer ay have purchased a song or album online. All your own CD's which you may have read-in (ripped) through iTunes will play without any problems.
DRM files, though they appear as MP4 files, cannot be played without the appropriate decoder (iTunes for example).
Ways and methods HOW to bypass this mechanism MUST NOT be discussed here in the forum, do a google research if you interested in.
BTW same issues may happen if you go from iPhone to iPhone or transfer files from PC to PC even if you backed up your iTunes license.
You may bear an Apple store a visit or call Apples cust. support they can provide you with a special key that you do not have to purchase all your songs again.

Track sorting seems to be a general problem of the TF3D player. If you for example have an album which contains two CDs the TF3D player is not able to sort it correctly. It's stupidly sorting:
Track 1 CD1
Track 1 CD2
Track 2 CD1
Track 2 CD2
[...]
Therefore I'm using Pocket Player instead.

Is there a way to launch Pocket Player from TF3D in place of the in-unit player?? I have been searching for an answer for a week here and found not a clue. Any help with this would be appreciated, otherwise I will just launch from programs as I am now doing, but it seems a waste to have a nice tab wasted!

No, I don't think so. Unfortunately the only think you can do is completely disabling the TF3D player by removing it with AdvancedConfig.
I wonder if it's possible to at least get the Audio Manager to play tracks according to file name. At least that way if tracks were numbered 01, 02 etc that would get around the problem of it not seeing the track number in the tag.
Trouble is I can't work out how to do this.... I've been rumaging in the registry under HKLM\software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng but there doesn't seem anything obvious to me. Maybe a key could be added? Anyone got any ideas?
How about mp4 video?
It took 20 minutes to load a video mp4 file onto my microsd card, but it's there. Windows Media Player won't recognize it. The video player app portion of the camera will actually play the file, but it takes several seconds to launch and is generally choppy after that. It's a shame, too, because the video quality is great ... it's just very choppy.
Is there Windows Mobile player out there somewhere that plays these mp4 files SMOOTHLY? I knew the Tilt had issues with the driver not playing video smoothly, but I didn't think it was a problem with the Fuze. Sure would like to watch some quality video in mp4 mode on my Fuze rather than my video ipod.
I love this forum, alot of smart people here (usually).
To talk of disabling software or this drm would be wrong. But Itunes itself posesses a way for you to back up your music. Its totally legit, and a common problem out there. (itunes not playing on winmo or other devices).
So if its a totally legit way of using the itunes program itself, to simply create a backup of your songs... why is it so horrible to discuss?
No one is suggesting hacking or disabling the drm, simply getting the music they paid for to work.
I have all my music on my SanDisk MP3 players, even checked the tagging under properties in Windows - all the album/artist info is there, even the album art shows up on my MP3 players.
However, when I upload all this music to the G1 - it all reads as "unknown artist" "unknown album" - with no album artwork and no organization of the music...
anyone have an idea?
Very weird, mounted it to the computer, unmounted and went back to music, all working now....
Yeah mine did that as well, must be a bug. Tunewiki is a great music app in the market and it blows away the default music player!!!
Yeah I like Tune-Wiki. I personally, actually really like the default music player on the device. I love the simplicity of it and it just seems to work really well. An equalizer would be nice but thats about the only thing I think it's missing.
I think there is still a bug though, as out of 2,000 songs - I have 849 "unknown" - when I check the songs files they show proper tagging.
I may drop them all into "Tag and Rename" later tonight and see if that does the trick.
I have an issue with the media player not recognizing some of my album art...all of the files are of the same size/type, tags were all created with the same program, yet when I put all the songs on my sd card, only half of the album art shows up.
I'm not one to complain, but if I'm putting in all this EXTRA effort to make my album art show up(not the simple folder.jpg) I'd like it to all work, not just some of it. :-( WTF!
Exactly, I'm having half my album art not show up, and half the songs not being recognized. It sucks.
Yet they were ALL created using the same software and all tagged the same.
I wonder if it's filenames that start with a number, or a syntax issue --- might be worth looking into.
i am having same issue with tunewiki.... i dropped about 15 albums onto the sd card and it recognised only 2 of them- the rest are unknown and all have correct ide tags- checked with 2 different programs!
Do we know if they are working on this issue? I tried to find their contact on the website but got nothing.... fairly useless website actually.
Must be something to do with the G1 though as the default player does the same!

i agree about the EQ in the default player.
so does anyone have a fix for the G1 not recognising ID3 tags?
I have searched far and wide through this forum, and also googled it, and there doesn't seem to be an answer, so I will bring it up again. I have imported pretty much all of my music with iTunes, which tagged and organized all my music. However, when I put my music onto my nexus one, many many albums get sorted into "unknown artist" when all of my music is nicely sorted in folders by artists. This seems very strange to me. People have suggested double twist and a few other various programs, but no one has given any input as to whether these programs worked. Does anyone have an answer for this?
As I was looking through the albums that have been filed as "unknown artist" I noticed that each song had a number infront of it as the designation of which song number each song on the album was. I am going to play with this tomorrow and see if editing each track (this is going to suck, I have over 4000 songs in my library!!!!) will help at all.

well froyo will have the ability to play music OTA from itunes with an update for the music application in the market after froyo releases. it may fix the problem. if you can wait for a few weeks it may be resolved. as for being put as unknown, maybe the artist is not tagged correctly. check the mp3 tags to make sure that data is there
Your ID3 tags are screwed up. Your filenames don't matter, it's the ID3 tags.
Use MP3Tag (google it), it's one of the best taggers there is.
+1 for mp3tag
been using it for years
I dont let any programs "automatically organize" my music
becareful with it though, if you mass edit something incorrectly you could find that all of your tags get messed up
try music folder on the market
Well, thank you very much for the info! I will look into it today and hopefully get my music all sorted out!
I have the very same problem.
Most of the replies here seem to suggest that retagging the mp3s will solve the issue. However, all of my mp3s were working correctly before I upgraded to Froyo. To confirm this, I've just done a restore to cyanogen 5 and sure enough, all were working fine again.
When I used easytag to fix some of the files, they still didn't show up the correct information under Froyo. So, there's definitely something fishy going on here!
I have similar problems sometimes when there are multiple tags (id2,id3 etc). Using an app to clean the tags and reapply them in a uniform way usually works tho.
A seperate issue tho is embedded albumn art doesnt show up for a couple of albumns. The tags are identical to other albumns that work, and so are the image file types used to create the cover art. Anoying! These are the kind of little niggly problems that make jo public buy an iphone

What app would you suggest to clean them up? I've tried using MP3Tagger Pro, but I'm a complete n00b at this sort of thing.
I downloaded MP3Tag, and that did the trick. the only thing is that It does take a long time to get everything set up. And I downloaded the album art from amazon. I have only fixed a few albums, tho. I have over 4000 songs in my library, so I am only doing the ones that I have on my storage card at the moment.

Android music library issues
Hi,
Here is the issue: after installing cyanogenmod 7 on my HD2, I have tranfered about 5Go of music from my pc to the sd card.
The problem is that all these mp3 have proper mp3 tag in ID3 v2.3 in UTF-8, but they are all recognized as "Unknown artists" mp3, and the album is just the folder.
I have tried to transfer an alicia keys album (only a single album) to the phone, also in id3 v2.3, and it is correctly tagged and recognized.
So I've tried to delete de media storage data, and reboot the phone.
At the start up, the system rescan the entirer sd card, but now the alicia keys albums are recognized as "unknown artist" and the album is also just the mp3 folder.
I have the same issue when rescanning with meridian player.
The problem seems to appears only when there are several folder of mp3/large amount of mp3 files to scan ex: >1Gb)
At this point, I've understood several points:
1. android can correctly read mp3 music with tags in ID3 V2.3
2. massive scan of music seems to be the cause of incorrect recognition of mp3 from android.
At this point, is there a way to properly scan mp3 with there tags, even in a massive scan ?
Ok, so the last 3 phones I have had, I just hooked up and opened windows media player, dragged over a playlist and loaded to the phone. Now with the Captivate, I load a playlist from windows media player but the phone doesnt see the playlist, I now have to browse music by Albums or Artist. This is really annoying when some playlists have various artists, it makes a bunch of new playlists for each artist Is there a way around this, or a better music player. I have about 4K songs on the songs, a few hundred are all seperated now instead of being in their respective playlists. Im not gonna sit there and create playlists
I see a Playlists folder with the lists I loaded frmo windows media player, but I cant access these Playlists through the stock app
You posted in wrong section. Thiis is for Developement for Captivate not general questions or help questions about getting something to work.
try the stock player for the android, I know that recognizes the m3u's or try doubletwist
Sorry about the wrong section, but yea I tried the stock music player on my Captivate. Didn't recognize the playlists.
This is a known issue - many people are using alternate music players that do recognize playlists. The Captivate seems to store its "phone created" playlists in a DB somewhere.
What else do you recommend other than double twist.

Media Monkey is a great PC solution - I like it much much much better then Doubletwist - but you need a player that supports M3U playlists - most music players do.
Hi Suddenly my phone can not play mp3 files. I'm using player pro, and default player 'music player' both of them. If I try to play it the "Sorry the player does not spport this type of audio file" message keep coming out. Even it can not play video, and it says it has problem with playing video. Even the ringtone I made from an mp3 file can not be played right now. So when it get calls it gives silence.
I've heard that there's some apps for playing media files, I might miss that now. can anybody tell me where i can get those apps?
Do you have any idea about this? I rooted the phone, but didn't change the rom. it has still 2.1.

I'm having the same issue after the Froyo update. The only solution I've found is to reboot which, to me, is bull****.
I have two Captivates running Phoenix Ultimate and they have both exhibited this. rebooting does fix it but I don't really consider that a fix.
Pro Player is the prefered player but I noticed it does this with the stock player as well.
Did anyone find a permanent fix for this?
My Captivate was working fine but started doing this randomly after I upgraded to 2.2. I will not be able to play any media, won't connect to youtube either. Of course the reboot works, but I miss calls because it randomly stops playing my custom ringtone.
Same here. Anyone have a fix?
Not playing mp3 suddenly
I am also having this problem with audio and video files not playing.Yes, reboot works but is not a fix!
I am also having this problem. It happens like twice a day now, really starting to piss me off. Any solution get?
U see alot of posts but no info that is needed to help. No rom version, no modem, no kernel info. All these things matter.
Mine is SGH-I896
Firmware 2.2
Baseband I896UXJL1
Kernal 206.32.9
Build FROYO.UXJL1
This is getting so annoying...
I am on 2.3.3 (Mosaic III, a jvh build) using X-cal's 1.2 no voodoo reorient jvh kernel. Previously, I used Phoenix and mostly speedmod kernels. Since upgrading to Froyo, I cannot play 95% of my music.
Currently, the included Mosaic music players (both stock 1.1.1 and miui v. 1) only play about 5% of my non-drm mp3s which are stored on my external sd card. (The error says "sorry, the player does not support this audio file" or something like that; but they are all mp3s with Id3v2.2 tags. I painstakingly checked. 95% are rendered unknown artist and are unplayable by the music players.) I have deleted and reloaded the music to no avail. Again, I had the same problem under Froyo (Phoenix Roms) but no problems under Eclair. I don't think this is a Rom based issue but I'm not prepared to rule it out.
I have tried at least four other music apps and they all have the same problem.
I will try to remove both included music apps (which are regarded as system apps) and reinstall.
Question: is there an explanation as to what is causing this? Whether or not there is an explanation, has anyone found a resolution?
This has been a frustrating several months and I thought, foolishly, that Gingerbread would solve the issue.
Any relevant insight on this (ruled out culprits, etc.)?

Is it possible to bump this problem/error to the Team Phoenix Devs?
Just to restate the problem: My phone refuses to play mp3's. Since Phoenix Rising Froyo Roms (using Speedmod kernels) to Mosaic III (using X-cal's 1.2 no voodoo reorient jvh kernel) I cannot play my non-drm mp3 music collection stored on my external sd card. The error says "sorry, the player does not support this audio file" or something like that. I've only used Team Phoenix Roms. I've searched far and wide on the Internet, I've reformatted my SD card, installed different music apps, uninstalled and reinstalled music apps, changed the mp3 ID3 tags on iTunes, tried an mp3tagger on the phone, reinstalled Adobe Flash 10.3, cleared music app caches, rebooted, deleted and reloaded the music all to no avail.
Is there something i have not tried? Can Team Phoenix help solve this dilemma?
Short Mp3 ringtones also do not work. :-(
This seems to happen to my youtube app also. Just stops playing videos and phone needs a restart... So I can't listen to music or watch youtube videos.. happening at least once a day now..
For Music:
Try switching your id3 tags to v2.3. I had v2.4, switched to v2.1 when this problem occurred only to discover that only old Android releases had problems with v2.3. (I'm led to believe Android still has problems with v2.4.) I now hear v2.3 should be read.
Based on this message from Apr 11, 2010, on the official Android open issues debugger list, several users reported improved functionality after employing the following: After switching tags, Go to Menu, Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, Options Filter All, Media Storage, Clear Data, Power off the phone, power on the phone.
Youtube: I'm sure you have done this but have you tried different versions of Adobe Flash (latest version 10.3, available in Market) and uninstalling twitter (if you have twitter installed)? Did you clear youtube's memory cache, uninstall, reboot, and reinstall?
Hope something here works for someone. I haven't be able to try the music suggestions yet.
Captivate - Mosaic III
Progress!
Update:
So I decided to go back to a music syncing program to see if that would solve the problem of making the music playable. In particular, I went back to Doubletwist (which was buggy as hell and why I dumped it). So I deleted all of the songs from Android, deleted the media storage cache, deleted the old library file restored in Double Twist, and synched as outlined above.
Result: Roughly 60 - 70% of the music works! The syncing took nearly 12 hours to load 20GBs of music. When I would simply "transfer" it by selecting and dragging, it would take 3 hrs. Unfortunately there are still 139 unknown artists -- even if songs are from artists with other (if not the same) readable album.
Why do some of the songs play and others do not? Not sure just yet. Will investigate further.
Note: If after syncing Doubletwist, and your playlists don't show up, according to this XDA post I hear a reboot may work.
Again, hope this helps someone.
