[Q] g1 rooted with androot now which rom - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just rooted g1 on 1.6 with androot and installed rom manager do i still need to upgrade the radio. i want to run 2.2 and possibly overclock it any help would be great

There are numerous Froyo ROMs available in the development forum. Each with their instructions on how to install them and the requirements beforehand.
Most of these ROMs will have settings which you can use to overclock. If you are rooted, which you'll need to be, then overclocking wouldn't be too difficult with the available apps already out there anyway.

depends on which rom you want.
I recommend Sparksmod 2.1 which is what i am currently using.
Its very fast , one of the best froyo roms out there.

OH and ive recently been hereing a lot of good things about superaosp dm rom, I might actually try it myself, if i do ill let you know how good it is.

SuperAosp is lighting fast. I am using it myself, and I garantee it works like a charm. See my sig for the link to the Developer site. (FYI it's in Spanish, so you'll have to translate it if you do not read Spanish).

Thanks guys I appreciate all the info. I just need a little help for a friend. I didn't want to flash a Rom on his phone and him being a noob have a bunch of stuff crash and him get nervous about trying roms. Since I don't have a g1 I haven't tried any roms for it. Really appreciate your quick responses.

The best thing to do is read the instruction until you understand what needs to be done. Once you feel comfortable and understand the DEV instruction. Then there should not be any problem.

Maybe let your friend trial a couple of ROM's before he settles on his preference?

Help Please, Whats the best stable fast ROM out there!?

hello i am sort of a noob on flashing phones, i just got my T-MOBILE Touch Pro 2, im very pleased with it, i downloaded the EURO WM 6.5 and..3G wouldnt work..and my keyboard mapping was wrong, i switched back to TMO Stock ROM, now i am look for the best stable fast running fun ROM,
ive seen many impressive ROMS outhere, but again im a noob, iam looking for a ROM that supports TMO 3G as in CoralSprings FL i have full 3G signal, please i would really appriciate your help, thanks in advance..
It all depends on what you install and what you use your phone way. Best way to find out is to read ROM threads, and flash and enjoy. Just make sure you have HardSPL before you flash custom ROM.
Mate I'm a complete noob as well.....
You just posted the same thread two days ago.
People posted help there.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572868&highlight=tmobile+keyboard
now go here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550559&highlight=tmobile+keyboard
It has all the T-mobile keyboard fixes.
Now you can use any ROM you like.
Don't ask people for the "best" or "most stable" ROM. Cause nobody knows what "the best" or "most stable ROM" is. It will depend on your own personal taste and situation. Give 'em a try and find something you like.
Oh and finally. I started on the Touch Pro 2 a couple of days ago. Had never used a WINMO phone before, never flashed, applied a cab, or anything. Although I've managed to do all of the above with a bit or "searching" and reading of this forum. Use the "Search" tool, it's excellent. And only ask a question if you've searched and searched and searched and still can't find the answer.
Best of luck
HDSPL then flash them all and you will find one that fits for you.
ikno guys, i already hardspl, but idont want to keep flashing and flashing, but yea isee what you guys mean, im downloading the energy rom, looks pretty cool, and alot support for TMO users,
thanks for ur response.

No problem, that's the way to start and that's how we all started.
ooo yeah i had 4gten bout that post, sorry,
so i also read that the 3G depends on ur radio, can u guys help with that? please,
I haven't heard about that because my 3G worked right out the box with stock radio.
But I have the latest HTC and it seems to be working real well. Also read positive posts about it so give it a try.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4360836&postcount=2
BTW, their is NO WAY to return back to the stock radio once you flashed a new radio. UNTIL someone finds a way to release it to us.
wel mine too, but when i had the custom rom, it didnt work.
Please find your own ROM, today's best might nott be tomorrows best, and you might not like what someone else likes.

Which ROM to Flash?

So here is the deal. I have searched these forums for a while and can't find what I really need. What I need is the most stable ROM available that has all of the features of the phone in proper working condition.
I have enjoyed using experimental ROMs with RAM hacks and the like but I am selling my G1 to somebody else. I need to find a ROM that doesn't have any issues with blue tooth, 3D, or playing video and youtube.
I apologize for creating a whole new thread for this but I have searched the forums and the only versions that I can find have some substantial known issues.
So what Android ROM should I download and flash? Thank you to anybody who can help.
if you're selling the phone, keep it simple. A stock donut rom ought to be just fine. Or hell, unroot it.

Unroot it. That way the new user will be able to get the support and updates they need.

2.2 Question

Hi this is probably a really stupid question but I am new and don't really know what I'm doing lol. I was wondering if there was an easy way to upgrade my sprint hero to 2.2. Google offers the official stock android but I don't know how to install it and I can't figure out the search here. Can someone lead me in the right direction? Maybe link to the right thread? Thanks for the help

Here is a good place to start for general questions and answers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=674833
One thing is for sure your going to have to root your phone before you can do anything so here's the rooting guide for 2.1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
The official source code for 2.2 doesn't just install on our phone everything has to be packaged in a rom and if its not supported by htc we have to do it ourselves so if you look around in the forums you'll find a lot of good 2.1 custom roms and darchstar built a 2.2 froyo build from the ground up. Good luck.
What is darchstar's 2.2 rom called
Just wanted to double check, newbie here but willing to learn. You have to get to your phone into a root statues, at which point your going to flash a new rom onto it with either 2.1 or 2.2?

that is correct
its not too hard once you finally get set-up
i suggest trying out a basic rom without all the bells and whistles first
then once you realize you can load a rom and you mess with it for a bit, try flashing a new kernal, try using overclock, try out a new launcher even *adw or helix.....*, then if you're still feeling good you can try jit
by then you should understand a bit more.

[Q] New to all of this...

Hi I just got my Samsung Captivate and have already rooted it. I want to add a ROM to it (Most likely Phoenix 2.2.1)
I was wondering, do I need Froyo 2.2 to use this ROM, or will the ROM install that for me? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm honestly confused by the whole thing
Thanks for your help
The rom gives you 2.2.1. Make sure you read, read, read
I did read but its a very confusing thread ^_^
Thank you for your help though!
I talking about everything in general. Read. God luck

Oh boy.... Another one of these threads.
Short answer.... PICK one, they are all better than stock. There are so many roms out there that only YOU can judge what you want and need in a rom.
Everyone will have a different answer for you. For instance I say Firefly, but only because it works for me
You can't go wrong choosing any of them.
+100000000000000
Anything other than JI6, that leaky rom is junk.
Caution swyping! Read at your own risk.

That is unanswerable every single phone is different, and people have widely different tastes. The trick is finding a rom that works best FOR YOU.

LMAO........
The suggestions are to try them out yourself........
They are all better than stock........
You have to figure it out for yourself..........
And he meant that every Captivate is different.......If you did some more reading...you would know what he meant........
The "all in one place" is the first 3 pages of the dev section........http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=706 any thread that starts with [ROM] is what your looking at
if you want a fast rom i would recommend the cyanogen mod 7.
people talk about how its unstable and has bad battery life
but its all wrong,,,
from my experience cm7 has been a stable like all the other roms but just faster..
It's the fastest you'll ever get right now and it has all different customization you can do.
so try it out.
Might want to try cm6 its outdated but fast and more reliable

ya, any file i put on the root of the phone gives me the same answer, whether its cwm or update.zip
You have 3E recovery.
The easiest way to get around it is to Flash the .tar version of speedmod with the full version of odin.
This only works on 2.2 If you need any more help. I will be around for a bit.

good answer! but if you are on 2.1 you can put the new rom on the sd card first and then flash speedmod. it wont boot into the rom but will give you recovery to flash the new rom.
yes, no need to root just odin flash speedmod then flash a rom.
if you want complete and reliable and well polished then flash andromeda, it's a bit older version of 2.2 but the work was great.
if you want super fast flash something that says js8, i hear the paragon rom has a great kernel. id say cm7 but maybe you should work up to that, it isn't hard but you need odin to flash back if you have problems, there aren't any 2.2 kernels or roms with the proper update script and binary to be flashed from the recovery that cm7 uses.

Nice. That makes sense that it will work.
OCLF (one click lagfix) use ext2. Titanium or some system app remover app to get rid of bloat and you should be good to go. At the end of the day different ROMs and such are for asthetics... no one has over 340 mg of Ram available so performance not much different from one to the next once lagfix installed. Until you OC/UV and that is tuff to maintain stability with.
Now we all know that there are no "Best Rom" threads but sense this one has changed course ill leave it open.
Each rom runs differently for each person. This is due to the many different ways we each use our phones. Once you get the hang of it, try out a few and find your favorite. Good luck on your quest.

Questions pertaining to specific roms should be asked in their thread. Most times you're not the only one that's had that problem and it's already been addressed. That translates into search and read.
