Fantastic. Best band on the planet. Will definitely try this out. Do you have a sound byte to go with it? Something like Useful Idiot from Aenima fading out after about 10-15 seconds? Just a thought. Looks good though. Appreciate it.

I haven't figured that part out yet gonna mess with that today. Useful idiot is exactly one I was thinking of as well or.maybe the intermission from aenima

Last track off Lateralus is another. I got sound to work on a boot only once. I copied the stock boot to desktop, went in with 7zip on the animation I wanted and copied the folder that has the jpgs and pasted it in the stock. Then renamed it to VZW or whatever it was named in the original stock boot animation folder. Then took an audio clip from the NIN Quake soundtrack to audacity and cut it to bout 30th secs and have it start fading out midway through. Renamed this to FinalThunder.mp3 and used root exp to move sound and boot to proper folder on phone. Hope this makes sense and helps you. If you figure out something let me know. Also. I started the thread of changing animations and would like to link to this boot animation if that is cool with you.

The last one I had was the Gingeritis one, which I had for a minute. I went through the hboot when I saw it was a img, even though I know it said that I should do the update through recovery. Can that have made it into this other image?
EDIT---And since it was an img file, is there even a way to do that through recovery?

I tried again, and it looks like someone on page 1 had the same issue. Must've had a mix up with the images. Oh well...I guess I will just make my own! Or use the Android 'Nom'-ing on the apple I saw a few threads down.
I appreciate the help, McLabia!

EPIC BIOS bootanimation(s) now more than 1 ;)

Here's the simulated BIOS boot I made for my EPIC. The images have been optimized for smoother playback. There are now a few choices for boot animations as well as matching shutdown animations below.
EPIC BIOS S-AMOLED/ Galaxy S (EpicBIOSboot_walord.zip):
EPIC BIOS SamMobile/ Galaxy S (variation) (EpicBIOSboot2_walord.zip)
EPIC BIOS SamMobile/Galaxy S (EpicBIOSboot3_walord.zip)
EPIC BIOS SamMobile/Nexus S ( EpicBIOSbootNexusS_walord.zip )
If you like those bootanimations, you may want to grab this:
Galaxy S Shutdown animation CWM flashable
or this:

No, but it's based on it. The one in the bonsai rom is for the i9000, I updated it with specs for the epic, updated the font to a more contemporary bios font, corrected the directions for recovery, etc.

File is flashable through Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Anyone tried this custom boot using TrulyEpic v2.06.12.10 ROM because so far I can't get it to work. It installs with no problem in Clockwork, but it doesn't show up when you boot up. Suggestions?
I saw it in action on Bonsai's ROM and its awesome, definately eye catching over the normal boot.
All the devs over here do such great work, thanks!

Not sure if his kernel supports custom boot animations. He has the I9000 boot ani in his rom but that is still a .qmg file type which the galaxy s phones use by default. I don't know if mammon has a flashable .zip of just his kernel (or if it would run stable on that rom) to be able to run boot anis from .zip files in /system/media

Thanks! For my shutdown I use an i9000 shutdown animation since it works so well with with the boot, I've attached it in case you want to check it out. What type of shutdown sequence are you looking for?
Right now I'm working on a SamMobileBIOS/Galaxy S bootanimation:

UPDATE 3/27 Thunderbolt Bios Boot Animation with sound

This has been floating aroung for a couple of years now so I take no credit for the original idea.
UPDATE: I have redone the boot animation to see if this will work for those having issues with the original. Please give this one a try.
I simply edited all of the images to match the specs of the Thunderbolt.
When booting it has a sound of a hard drive starting up with beeps like an old PC.
This file greatly speeds up the boot proccess of the Thunderbolt as well!
The original file is about 3meg, this file is just over 1meg.

The attached zip file is not a flashable zip, it contains the boot animation.zip and the mp3 sound file. Open the zip file and copy the bootanimation.zip and the FinalThunder.mp3 to your computer so that you can copy them to your phone.
Depending on the ROM you are using place the 2 files in the following directory on your phone. If you are unsure, just look in the directory and if it has bootanimation.zip and FinalThunder.mp3 then you are in the right place.
You may have to set permissions on both files to rw-r--r--
(You could also use adb to push the files to your phone if you would rather)
If you think you may want to revert, copy the originals somewhere on your SD Card first.
Stock ROM (and probably most custom ROMs:
/system/customize/resource/
For Adynalyne's DeBloat ROM:
/system/media/
Works awesome! Thank you sir!

Just a side note: Need to rename the bootanimation.zip file to VZW_bootanimation.zip
Edit: for the stock ROM. Sorry, should've specified.
It's not working for me I put the bootanimation.zip on the sd card and put it in the right folder (I have changed boot-animations before successfully) but it just gives me my splash page and then a black screen until the boot finishes.
*edit* I guess it's because I've got the VirusROM on... Darn...
Same results here, but in all fairness, I'm on virusrom, and I'm not sure what's up with that. I'll keep looking.

Uh, now I have the AOSP boot animation. Actually, that'll due until I get this amazing one running!
If it helps.. the cyborg-bootanimation that I got here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7754328#post7754328 works on VirusROM. I tried just replacing the images but to no avail I must be missing another step
it only work for a reboot or hard rest with mine. If i power off and power back on with fast boot enabled it just goes to the blasck htc screen and stays on that till it turns on...help?
You guys with ROMs that it's not working on, is the file named bootanimation.zip?
And are you setting permissions? I'm not really sure that makes any difference but who knows.

I'm stumped as to why people at having issues.
As far as Virus ROM, I haven't tried it so I'm not sure what that might be.
All I get is a black HTC screen, no BIOS.
Nicely done!

[MOD] Dark downanimation.zip

Hi!
I've made a dark downanimation.zip (animation while phone is switching off) to replace the stock one from HTC. It's like the original one, but on dark background, to go with the dark splash screen and bootanimation that's floating around in the ARHD rom thread. Tested in my Desire HD (480x800). Don't know if someone else had already made this, but I couldn't find any...
Install Instructions:
OPTION 1:
Open root explorer, rename the file darkdownanimation.zip to downanimation.zip and paste it in /system/customize/resource. Then define permissions to rw-r--r--, like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
OPTION 2:
Flash the darkdownanimation-flashable.zip in CWM.
Feel free to use it and comment on it! Thanks to Dude360 for making the flashable zip!

Absolutely awesome downanimation. Using it now!
This one should be flashable, havnt had chance to try it yet myself though so let me know and Ill remake it if not.
Quick splash screen question, are they 'permanent' or do they revert back to the white HTC every time I reflash?
I flash roms quite a lot and usually incorporate boot/down anis in the rom cleaner script. Never dealt with splash screens before.
Cheers

And before anyone says anything, Yes somebody has made one like this before but I have made my own edition from scratch and the other one I have seen was elongated instead of portrait, which mine is. I also added a sound version. So this is not stealing from original creator because I made my own.
Now, I have 2 versions. One with Sound and one without.

I used the QR code to download it. I've tried other ways as well. So it would seem that there could be an issue with the ec/dk. That would imply that dk28 handles the bootanimation.zip differently? I compared the desc.txt file to one that works on my phone and could not really find any difference. But I have an untrained eye. Has anyone else with a DK28 rom had any success with this? I copied the bootanimation from the zip over directly and fiddled with the resolution and frame rates to no avail. If I put the FPS to 30, I get a black screen instead of the stock android.
Guess what? I just got it to work. I extracted the bootanimation.zip out of your original file and copied it to system/media, rebooted. Win.

The desc is going to be for the most part similar across all android devices except for screen size and frame rate. If you edit my desc from the boot zip you will get a black screen. You would have to extract everything and edit and rezip.
As long as bootanimation.zip is going to system/media... there shouldn't be an issue.
If you get a black screen there is something wrong with the bootanimation.zip and if you get android logo something went wrong with flash or your system pushing to system/media.

I had some trouble using this. When I installed through CWM it only applied the sound and not the boot animation. The sound also cutoff halfway through and was all static after that.
Had to use a file manager to wipe it out since installing a boot animation over this one wouldnt work.

[Custom Boot Animation] iOS Error | Download

I hope this is the right spot for this topic.
I was finally able to create my very first custom boot animation for my HTC Thunderbolt.

I tried installing but it keeps saying install aborted. I rebooted in recovery and installed zip from card. I left the file as bootanimation.zip because I know it had to be that to install to the device but for some reason when I go to install it it keeps aborting my install on the thunderbolt. Any help would be great.

... You don't flash it. You either adb push the file or use a root explorer.

Yeah, as idkwhothatis123 said, simply replace your current bootanimation.zip with this one.
I used Supermanager to copy the old one from the \system\media folder to my SD Card and then put this one, which was on my SD Card into that folder. Reboot and it should work fine.
I hope that helps.
that worked thank you.

If you're referring to the splash screen, that's a different process. If that's what you're talking about, I can explain that when I get off work.

I'm not entirely sure. I would assume if you had the same dimensions (480x800) then it should work. But, do a quick Google search to see.

Any help will be great. Yeah the only thing i get is the final screen. I don't have the apple logo or the android coming in and flicking the apple away. All that shows up is the final part of the animation.
Ok, so I just downloaded the file I have up and I see what you guys are taking about. I will upload a new file a little later. I'm currently at Kings Island. The thing I don't get is when I extracted the bootanimation.zip on my phone, all the files were in the zip and desc.txt were all correct. So, I will look at it when i get home. Not entirely sure what happened.

Sorry about that guys. I tested this one again after I re-zipped the bootanimation. Any other problems, please let me know.
I hope you guys enjoy this.
HA. This is cool, you should give some thought on adding some sounds to it. Hinds73 has a tutorial on it that works perfect.

Tried installing this with Root Explorer as I did with my Evo. Rename the current bootanimation.zip to oldbootanimation.zip and put this zip in system-customize-resource folder where these zips are deposited. Rebooted my phone, and its still the MikRoms animation from the Gingeritis rom im running. For the hell of it I wiped my cache partition and my Delvik..no go

I would go through the process again. I had this happen to me before, but it was because I forgot a step. Lol. The little things are sometimes the most irritating. You might try total commander, and make sure you have r/w permissions.

yeah im going to give it another shot..But with Root Explorer if you dont have the proper permissions it wont even let you move files so I know I got that part right lol..Ill have to look up this total commander you mentioned. I remember having a small issue awhile back with RE and Estrongs and permissions (1 let me move things while the other didnt..and both were set to r/w not read only)
worked for me, looks awesome!! gonna show this off to a friend of mine with an iphone tomorrow haha
Installing it right now with the custom splash screen picture
Let's see how this works.
I'll show this to all my iPhone friends, haha.
Thanks for your work!
EDIT:
I got a suggestion if you'd read it
Maybe make the text appear a bit slower like the system is 'really' computing?
I notice it just jumps up rapidly and clog the screen so quick.
I understand the whole text stays there for a while so you can read it, but I think the 'coolness' factor is lessened because the text appears and scrolls up so fast.
Just a suggestion
