I have been using the WIFI router on my tilt 2 ever since I got it, I even bought the WM WIFI Router program in the Windows Market, and that doesn't work either. Iam using the energy 27.dec.2010 and I even tried using another energy rom also, no luck. Everything goes with the startup, the device connects and I see I have a good connection, but when I try to use browser/data its saying its not connected to the online signal. Its seems to pair fine and connect but I can't use any features with data even though I have full WIFI bars and all the icons are correct. I even tried it with another sim, nothing. Anyone else having this problem?

Have you tried any other roms here on the forum to see if any of them have same issue?
fwiw the WiFi Router included in every Energy version I've flashed works fine, latest is about mid Feb I think.
Are you sure the device you're trying to connect to the phone fully supports adhoc connections? I had a Linux distro do that to me not too many years ago... everything appeared fine but wouldn't communicate through a legit version of router software that worked fine with a Windows laptop (same one actually). When I emailed tech support they apologized and told me that "feature" was still in development.
Yes they do support adhoc connections. They will both connect fine but its like its somehow not getting a signal. I can use usb to teather to media net and.connect. but still can't get the wifi router working. And also after I connect with wifi router but before I connect a.device the wifi icon that's is supposed to be blue is blinking blue before I connect a device I don't remember this happening before?

Hey everyone!
I've just bought a new at&t tilt and determined a problem. I couldn't connect to the internet through neither my home wireless router (netgear), nor any free wireless routers in the apartment building were I live. I connected the tilt to my router, but I wasn't able to acess the internet. I tryed to change different setting but everything was unsuccessful. After I called to at&t( probably 10 times or more) I was told that I can use the wifi connection only within certain special at&t "hotspots". Is it true? Can I somehow remove this restriction?
Thanks,
Mike

Not true. You can use any wi-fi - just like your laptop (assuming it's unsecure or you have the security code). Is your wi-fi turned on via Comm Manager? Are you using the stock ROM or have you flashed a new one? Is your wi-fi set up correctly via Comm Manager (search for Comm Manager and WLAN setting on the forum).

I had the same problem when I got my tilt. After just fiddling around it started to work and I really didn't do much that would make a change.
Use the connection manager and try the wireless settings to make sure it sees your wireless networks.
Power it down and turn off the cell portion and just have wifi running.
I too am having problems with WIFI on my new Tilt at my home location. I have flashed the stock HTC rom (WWE rom: 1.56.405.5 / radio: 1.27.12.11) and everything on the device works perfectly. Even before that I had tried to connect using the AT&T rom, still no luck. I can get the WIFI to connect and stay active, but when I open up internet explorer or opera mini I cannot get any pages to download. I can get a connection from other places that have wifi, both secured and usecured networks and the Tilt's wifi works fine. I have other WIFI devices connected to my home wireless router and they work perfectly. I have tried playing with all the settings on the phone and even on the wireless router, still no luck.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I just tried your suggestion about turning off the phone side of the Tilt, and having wifi running, still no luck.
You are not alone
I had the same problem as you. I tried different configs on my router. I could not even connect to other open wifi spots. I was finally able to connect after flashing to another rom with a different radio. I have tested about five roms so far. Wifi worked most of the time. I am using Dutty's 6.1 and it is working like a champ now. It seems as though many stock Tilts have that problem.
I may be wrong, but I think I remember reading somewhere that the rom and radio version do not really effect WIFI?
I got my WIFi working! First I updated the router through Netgear. Then I went to a friends house that uses a secured router as well. Then I slid the WIFI to 'best performance'. Then I successfully connected to internet at my friends house. Then I came back home, signed in to my secured router, and voila! It works like a charm now. Pretty fast too.

what radio version do you have? i have unbranded version but i still having the same problem... br
My Fix
So I had the same problem. Could not connect to home network after ROM. Go to "wireless manager" at first the icon for wifi would not allow selection. I selected bluetooth, closed it, then wifi could be selected. then select settings in wireless manager, if your network is unsecure, just next, next, finish. I was then connected. hope this helps someone out.
I've had a few problems with wi-fi. I've seemed to narrow them down to using unsecure/secure networks. I've found that my Tilt doesn't like to play well with "B" unsecure. Tested this with an older D-link, and Linksys "B" router. Haven't really had any problems with "G" networks.

Using my Tilt from AT&T I swapped out the stock ROM for the Sleuth v3 ROM and haven't had a problem since. Well until now. This morning I realized that the WiFi wasn't connected when I went to get a file from my email, normally it's just easier to do that rather than download it to my PC and transfer it. But when I went to activate the WiFi, the WiFi turned off immediately after establishing a connection to the router.
I know it's not the router, the PC I'm using right now is connected to it, as are 2 other PCs. I tried connecting to another wireless network, but the WiFi on the Tilt does the same thing - connect then deactivate.
I'm pretty much stuck and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?
*edit* Sorry, forgot to mention that up until now I haven't had an issue with the wireless.
*edit2* Using the internet sharing, I'm suddenly now connected to the wireless network? Maybe I somehow blundered my way through... I'll experiment and keep this post updated.
my Trinity 3600i got same wifi issue as yours before. but It seems recover after I reflashed a new rom.
Ok so now I'm not really sure whats going on. From Comm manager, I click the WiFi button and it starts to connect. Once it does, the WiFi is disabled within 1-2 seconds of connecting.
I tried the Internet Sharing option with my Tilt hooked up to my PC and instead of connecting to the EDGE network, it connects to the wireless network. When I look at the comm manager screen again, the internet sharing is disabled, but the wifi is enabled.
Same thing is happening to me. I connect for a second, and then wireless lan disables itself. Using dutty's WM6.1 WWE with radio 1.58.26.20. I have another att tilt with the same problem (I unlocked it one earlier today). I'm going to try messing around with my router a little more.
Anyone got any ideas?
edit: apparently, if it's connected to your computer via usb, if you turn on wireless lan, it'll shut itself off. Then if you unplug the usb, it'll turn on. boy do I feel stupid.
ah haha, i totally forgot about the USB wifi thing, i usually dont let it connect when im connected to the computer so i forgot about this x.x very sorry i couldnt have helped about this ealier
I just hope this addresses your problem Elm0
Over the past few days my phone hasn't been wanting to connect to my wi-fi. I would have to turn wi-fi on and off several times before it would connect. Today it just stopped connecting all together. It now shows my network but says its "out of range" I'm withing 10 ft so I know it's not. Earlier today it would just say scanning and then disabled under the network name. Anyone know why it would not be working at all? Also I have a ps3 hooked up wireless and it works fine so I know it's not the router.

I had the same problem...got a new phone from att and still did the same. Did you try resetting your router...for some reason my captivate is sensitive to my router and even though everything else wireless in the house works fine the phone says wifi disconnected....hopefully resetting your router does it

Try changing the channel.on your router to channel 11 and then setting a static ip address on your phone.
I am assuming you are using a standard home user router such as a linksys or netgear and that you are using a captivate, so I doubt you are having issues due.to encryption or using the wrong type.wireless.

Got to test it out with my nook today - it worked great!
its not working for me. My buddy doesn't see it on his Evo 4G wifi.
Just tested it out and it worked great. No 4G in my area until October so I was running You Tube, which blocked here at work, over the tether and it it was really smooth. The app was painless to use, no configuration at all just started it and gave it SU access and off I went. My laptop connected right up.
Nice app/find.

it worked.
4g and 3g tested, both working.
not sure why this app didnt work before...
decrapped rom
I believe the reason most phones can't see it is because it creates a Wifi hotspot in Ad-hoc mode and not Infrastructure mode like most Wifi routers do. Android phones cannot connect to an Ad-hoc network, at least I haven't found one that does.
If you connect to this network from a computer you'll usually also see it listed with Ad-hoc mentioned or a different icon of some sort.
I have noticed that Apple's products can connect to an Ad-hoc network. I'm not sure why this limitation exists on Android handsets, it's quite annoying.
Most of the "official" carrier Wifi hotspot's do support Infrastructure mode, so that's why you can connect when using one of those hotspot app's.

It is because in Ad-Hoc mode there is no server assigning it an IP Address like you get with the infrastructure mode found in routers and other devices. You have to make sure that all the devices are configure with matching IP addresses (addresses in the same subnet and class), gateways, and subnets. Ad-hoc is generally a manually configured network where you configure each device. It is what we used to call peer to peer in the old days.
The app listed in this thread works great. Just to check ppl are turning on the wireless radio first? I know its a simple thing but you would be surprised how many times ppl forget that step.
I've been fighting with this app since I got it. I know the problem is with my laptop, but when I had the Inc. i could connect with no problems at all. I see the signal from the phone in my wireless list, just as an adhoc connection. I just can't get my computer to ever connect to it.
I know the error lies somewhere between the keyboard and chair, but if anyone has any ideas on what I should try, plz let me know.
Running. Win7 Ultimate 64bit
Thanks all!
it works!
The first WiFi device I tried to connect was my wife's phone (Samsung Captivate) but her phone would not find WiFi Tether signal.
But my rooted Nook Color did and it works fine.

Interestingly enough, I was able to use this quite well on my Nook Color running CM7 when they had 4g turned on in my area (for one day). After they switched it back off, I have been able to connect, but the data doesn't seem to go.
I don't get the correlation, because I was even able to tether it at work where I only had 3g, but the second they turned 4g off, it wouldn't tether from 3g. Frustrating.
I just want to note I am using it on a 3G connection. They have not activated 4G in my area.
I figured out what was wrong. The problem was that I was authorizing my nook exclusively, and while this works, it doesn't appear to be a permanent solution. You have to redo it occasionally when you reconnect.

having issues with this app, laptop connects and some sites work, speak easy speed test reports very nice speeds, but for whatever reason several sites will only partial load and then timeout. Forum based websites work fine and it seems youtube works also. Not sure why others won't.
I am trying to connect my laptop running Windows Vista Home to my LG revo. I can see the AndroidTether ssid and it is ad hoc. But when trying to connect it just sits there trying then has a message that "connection is taking longer than usual" then it gives a timeout. I can get a connection with my desktop running Vista Ultimate. Anybody know what setting in my Windows laptop that may have to be changed? I setup my wireless adhoc device props to match the LG revo settings. I found a new driver for the wireless network card and it connected just fine...DOH!
Just to mention for some people
If you still can't connect try checking if u made a static ip for your network adapter....just putting this out there

I have been having issues where i am connected to the wifi but the device stops passing any traffic. I have fing installed and i can't ping any other devices on my network. I know its just my phone because i have my work phone and tablet connected to the wifi and they still work fine browsing webpages, watching movies etc while the droid turbo can no longer communicate with the local lan or out to the internet. If i switch the wifi off then on again it will reconnect and then work normally. I can then ping devices on the local lan and access pages on the internet. This has happened a number of times now since i got the device.
Edit: I just updated the phone and still get the issue. I have a cisco WAP at home, we have cisco WAP's at work which i will test tomorrow. If this thing still has issues i am just going to swap it out for a Note 4.

Yeah this phone does not seem to like my router for some reason. Keep in mind I'm not a networking expert, but I've tried every combination of options and settings every which way from Sunday and I just can't get the thing to work. When I do connect the phone to my wifi it kills the the connection on every device in the house. At first I though it was just a wireless thing, but even the downstairs computer which is plugged in directly to the router doesn't work. Then as soon as I disconnect the phone every device works again. I thought maybe there was too many devices, so I disconnected all but the downstairs computer, still had the issue when I connected the Turbo. I've tried just turning off the WPA2 and just having an open system, I've tried connecting the phone using a WPS pin (This one actually worked for a good 5 minutes before crapping out and hasn't worked since). On the advanced options of the phone I tried an automatic IP as opposed to the default DHCP setting (This also worked for a good 5 minutes before not working ever again). I've tried limiting it to just one frequency band. I have tried so many different things and I just cannot make this phone work on my router. And I know it's my router because the phone works fine at work.
phone: Droid Turbo
Router : Asus rt-ac66r
yup within ten minutes of getting home, the device no longer passes traffic. My work S5 still works fine at home and so does my samsung tablet. The device worked on wifi all day at work on our enterprise wpa2 network no issues. I tried doing static ip at home, changing to 2.4 ghz, trying new ssid. Not sure what else to do with this thing...
Not just you
I posted a comment on Motorola's forum where people are discussing their wifi issues... And my work around. I currently beleive its a software issue and can be fixed via update. Also, today I found (it appears) that the longer the phone goes without a reboot, the shorter amount of the it appears to go with out needing the wifi card reset.
https://forums.motorola.com/comment/829632
My work around fix...
First, over night my wifes phone now behaves just like mine. It now connects to wifi and after sometime passes it no longer passes data (but stays connected). I needed a way to auto disable/enable the card... I installed Tasker. I have it set to check every 15 minutes, if the phone is connected to WiFi, to disable then enable the WiFi card. I use WifiMatic to enable the wifi card when the phone is connected to the cellular tower that is near my house. (Doing this by GPS uses more battery power...) Using Tasker with the rule to verify its connected to wifi first helps not enabling wifi if its nit needed and lets WifiMatic enable/disable it as needed.
