i have darky 9.5 is is better to keep it or have a stock froyo with OneclickLagFix
if i install the stock rom will it be able to change the way it looks ?
OCLF is a really old lagfix, really not recommended. (Not sure if it's even supported anymore)
Stock roms don't have options to change skins as easily as modded roms
AFAIK Darky is much faster even without lagfix. And it contains lots of other enchncements like Voodoo kernel (lagfix + soundfix) and so on...

OCLF is working with EXT2 and is very laggy and you may loose data if something crashed!

If you are already on Darky’s then no reason to change over to stock. But stock 2.2.1 JPY is quite fast without a lagfix. However, installing themes and moding the UI is difficult unless you install the deodexed version.
Darky's rom comes with a long list of improvements which are really impressive. Either that or Doc's Rom is a superior choice over the stock, your call.
OneClickLagfix is not recommended because there are better solutions available. It is using a method called "loop" which puts all your data in a "virtual drive" on ext2 filesystem and it also halves your available space for apps unless you want to add all available space to the loop. But then if you want to un-lagfix, you will definitely loose data. But nowadays you can convert the whole system drive into ext2,3,4 from the recovery menu and back to RFS if you wish without loosing any data.

Hi guys just got my galaxy S and I am currently running on Doc Rom's latest build with Hardcore 15Q 500hz kernel but I have a ton of questions I don't understand. I have been trying to read the forums as best as I can but I still can't find the answers I'm looking for. Please explain in layman's terms I cam from the Desire and N1 and things were pretty straight forward over there. ROM+Kernel+Radio
1. What's voodoo?? and Lagfix?? Kernels from what I understand but why are there so many spinoffs and variations and modifications?? Are they required? If I made a rom from docs kitchen does it come with these? Do I still need to install them after?
Because when I read the directions it says to close any lagfixes before flashing. Can anyone give me the correct sequence of what I am supposed to flash to the phone??
2. Is there an automatic text reflow feature for the browser similar to HTC SENSE wherein the text resizes even after you've really zoomed in and not just double tapped?
3. I read in doc roms kitchen that back light notification is included but I cant get it to work. Do I have to flash the kernel in BLN's thread? Wouldn't that overlap whatever kernel I got on my rom?
4. How do I get battery percentage for my rom?
5. Is there a mod wherein you can enable the home button to unlock the phone while in the lockscreen? Similar to the one Cyanogen is using for the desire and N1
6. Whats JPY / JS3 / JPX??? I assume its official firmware from samsung, is JS3 the newest?
Thanks for helping an extremely confused noob!
hmm right where to start ...... 1st of all voodoo is a kernel same as speedmod both have an option to install a lagfix (speeds up the phone basically ) but this is optional and is usually contained in CWM (ClockworkMod) CWM is a more advanced recovery method where you can flash new roms and apply tweaks do resets ect.. ( to get into recovery press Volume up + Home button + Power button all together )
there are so many versions of ROMs + Kernels because alot of people on here are developers and like to modify their phones.. If your not too sure if this will benefit you, i suggest you dont bother as 1 little mistake can turn your phone into a very expensive paper weight.
BLN is an app which will make the buttons light up if you get a txt, email, ect without lighting up the whole screen (which drains battery) there is a similar app names NoLed available in the market.
as for the automatic text reflow i dunno what that is if you mean multitouch this phone supports it ( pinch to zoom and all that **** )
JPY JPX JS3 are firmwares JS3 being the latest. and finally for the mod of making the home button unlock the phone i dont think ive seen that done on the SGS yet.. but there are alot of different Unlock screens you can get from flashing.
oh and the battery percentage thingy thats included in some roms. otherwise there is an app called circular battery ( google it )
but as said earlier.. if you do decide to customise your phone make sure you FULLY UNDERSTAND what you are doing.. if you have doubts dont do it, read a bit more and post some Questions on here till you are confident enough, as no body on here is responsible for damaging your phone except you !!...
Hope all that helps sorry for such a long post

When in CWM and tweaking lagfix options theres an item that enables it. Does this mean that by default the lagfix is turned off when I flash the kernel or rom? Is it recommended?
What does convert system to ext4 / RFS do? Is it recommendable?
Do I have to partition my sdcard or something for this to work?
Whats the tweak option and is there anything that I should do for better performance?
and lastly when I reboot after enabling lagfix it asks me if I should convert and it proceeds to backup. What just happened? Is there anyway to revert? Will it mess up my files?
Oh and btw I'm using Doc's Rom and theres an options under display to change my lockscreen. It gives me the option of changing from stock android, samsung or whatever else but it doesn't seem to work. Do I have to do something to enable it or is this still a WIP?

I read the spreadsheet but still cant understand what the difference between voodoo and speedmod kernel is. Shouldn't voodoo be bettter?
like everyone says on here about the battle of voodoo vs speedmod. there is no better / worse its personal choice both work brilliantly so u decide which to use.
as for lagfix its disabled as default but you enable it via CWM when speedmod asks to backup its best to do it incase of any trouble ( VERY RARE ) you do not need to partition your sd card.
ext4 is just where data is saved instead of rfs, its quicker this way hence the name LAGFIX and its optional, but it works
doing anything other than what samsung say is risky, but the clever people over here on XDA know what they are doing and thats what makes the SGS better. your files wont get deleted unless you do a wipe (manually or wipe version of ROM )
Oh and the lockscreens are changeable in 'settings' if not check out the threads ( or where you downloaded your ROM from )
I think I got it. Thanks buddy! Really appreciate it!
I have Sansung galaxy s on TMobile uk - Had it replaced now 3 times in 6 months - great phone but fed up with lag - keeps freezing - black screen - lost data - lost signal .. crap hotmail
How do i fix it ?? Whats a Lag fix ?? Please help/recomend
Thanks
a lagfix is a generic name for a couple of different methods used to ... fix the lag
Most lagfix solutions require ROOTing the phone... which, in simple terms, just means giving yourself administrator privileges to change things on the phone.
A simple and fairly popular way to fix the lag is OCLF 2.0 which you can get on the Market. You need to first root the phone using z4root or other rooting tools (look around the forum.. easy to find info on different root methods).
Other lagfix methods change your file system to ext4, which is just a different way of managing bits and files on the phone. Voodoo (also documented on XDA is one of those methods).
If you are a little bit brave, a slightly scary but entirely safe way to fix the lag is to simply replace the ROM (from your carrier and Samsung) with a custom ROM.
While this was a very technical process 6-9 months ago, there are a whole bunch of tools and great documentation that make it pretty easy nowadays.
I would suggest looking at RomKitchen ... take a few minutes to read the documentation, and play with Rom Manager to do a full backup of your current phone setup to get a feel for what is involved. Then if you are comfortable, try installing a custom ROM using a lot of the default choices in RomKitchen (having done a full backup beforehand, of course).
One note...
I spent a lot of time in the last few months playing with 'lagfixes' before installing custom ROMs. In the latest releases of the Galaxy ROMs (JPY and JS3) I've found the speed and battery life very good, even without resorting to lagfixes.
Then you can decide if you actually need a lagfix for that extra bit of performance, or if the 'standard-custom' ROM is good enough
First try to upgrade to froyo 2.2.1 and you have almost no lag and its okey for normal use.
If you want more out of the phone you need to use a custom kernel that make the phone much better.
You can also put a custom rom on it to make it even better.
Right now im using stock jpy Rom with my kernel. Its very nice;-)
**DamianGTO Steam kernel. 350MB Ram. 500HZ. ext2/jfs . js3 base**
I'm also using RomKitchen builds with no lagfix and they are incredibly faster than the stock build.
I've been absolutely loving the phone since I upgraded to Froyo and installed the speedmod kernel with EXT4 filesystem.
However over time I've found that the phone has become more and more laggy -especially over the last few weeks. Facebook for instance does a lot of FCs lately. Is there a way to 'clean up' the phone? Here's what I have tried so far;
1. I've been keeping up to date with the speedmod kernels and as a result have been wiping the cache partition and dalvik cache regularly.
2. Trimmed down my apps to bare minimum -91 total in the app drawer now. Uninstalled a few system apps with SGS tools -press reader, mini diary etc.
Currently on DXJPA base + speedmod kernel K13A + EXT4 filesystem conversion.
Any help would be most welcome!

Well eventually I will have to do that, was wondering if there was a non-destructive way of fixing it meanwhile. I'm lazy to go backing up my smses etc! Thanks for dropping by anyway.
I believe it has to do with your ROM.
JPY onwards have been the fastest ones (even just stock ones).

I support that, JPA was very laggy for me, especially if you had a lot of apps syncking on the background, i use darkyys 9.2 with everything turned on and a launcher and i have no problems...
Yes, wipe everything and disable lagfix then make the swith to Android 2.2.1. I believe the easiest way to do this is using Doc's kitchen because it'll let you choose your country's CSC as well as a modem of your choice. The newest JS5 is also available now, and it seriously kicks ass.
Then you can reapply the Speedmod kernel with Ext4 lagfix.
Just flashed Doc Rom with JS5. So far pretty fast without lagfix. I'm getting some annoying Force Closes of the 'Phone' process though. Happens twice on startup. Is there any fix for this?
My Rom consisted of;
JS5 base v9_6_6 with WIPE
Hardcore Kernel
ZSJPE modem
XSP CSC
I was previously on stock DXJPA with the hardcore kernel.
Hi there, how can I disable speed mod lag fix? i was thinking if you just uninstall it from the APPLICATIONS section, u disable it. I think i am not right.
Kindly guide me how to exactly disable it.
boot into recover go to advance speedmod features and select disable lagfix then reboot and job done
Hi there, thanks for the quick reply. would appreciate some more help, HOW TO DISABLE YA OK 1.5 one click installer lag fix ? if I try the same way as you wrote for speedmod, it does not give me the same options. I reboot and go to the recovery mode by pressing the VOODOO TOGGLE REBOOT, it goes in CWM. asking me again and again for the voodoo update.zip which i tried to install but did not succeed.
Kindly help me out!!!
Would dearly want to install voodoo but 1st i think i have to remove or disable YA OK 1.5 one click installer.
Thanks alot
Hi all,
I have a Galaxy S running 2.3.3 stock JVO with voodoo lagfix kernal and I want to flash a customer ROM (Darky) but I wanted to clarify a few things first:
1. When looking for customer roms do i need to take in consideration i have a JVO device? What does JVO mean?
2. After doing some research I have found a Darky rom app on the market. The app. The app has an option to flash/install from SDCARD. Can i simply download the rom and use this feature? Do Darky roms (or any other for that matter) contain lagfix kernal?
3. Is there any option to have a vanilla ROM i.e. google nexus with nothing but android? Surely the device will be faster with nothing on it?
4. Can i use titainum backup to restore applications back to their original state or would i need to re-download them and then use titainum to restore?
5. Is there anyway to make a snapshot of my device in its current state so if it screws up then revert it back to its current state (inc kernal).
Many thanks!

1) JVO refers to your firmware build, relevant as to how recent it is. You'd have to be more concerned if making a major change (eg froyo to GB), but JVO to say JVP is a small change.
2) Not sure, but I doubt an unrooted phone will be able to flash a new firmware via just an app.
3) Firmwares are somewhat more complicated, since they bundle all the drivers and so on into it. To have just a plain vanilla android rom they would need to reverse engineer/rewrite all the drivers for your phone, gps, gyrometer, etc. There are some options available now though, like CM7 and MIUI which are radically different from samsung roms, and claim to be much faster. Google will tell you more
4) Titanium can reinstall apps. Usually no issue, but if there are major firmware changes the restored app may be restored incorrectly and fail to work properly. Usually more of an issue when restoring data to system apps
5) nandroid backup from CWM, you need to have a kernel with clockwordmod already on it though.
thanks dude.
I went ahead and installed Darky 10.2.2 and the speed is AMAZING! But for some reason I cant get the device to vibrate when I get a new sms, whatsapp or email even though I have set the device to vibrate

Hello!
Prelude:
This is my first post here but i am a frequent reader of this boards. I also tried to research the matter i am asking and found no answer relating to that particular problem. Basically thats my way of saying sorry if that has already been asked.
I have an unlocked galaxy s (I-9000). For some weeks now i experimented with almost all ICS versions aviable so far and was so not-impressed by it. So i decided to go back to gingerbread, trying a lot of old gingerbread ROM's too and still not one was everything i wanted. So i went back to stock and i am very happy with the appearance and usability of it. Back on Froyo i used voodoo's lagfix (ext4 conversion of all mounts) and was very happy with a risk free performance boost.
Actual question:
Is there a way of applying such a "lagfix" on an actual 2.3.6 stock ROM with semaphore kernel?
Try to convert to ext4
In semaphore it has option to convert to ext4 (seem like lagfix)
I have searched in the semaphore app and the scripts but can't find any option to convert.
