Update prl manually - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do I do it I can't send and receive texts
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App

You have to do it from a Sense rom.
Nand, flash any Sense rom, update profile and prl, send a few texts, receive a few, nand back to whatever you were running. I keep a Sense nand on my sd card just for this reason.
Also, search is your friend.

I have the prl file. But where do I get a sense nand? Please help.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App

You make one. When you flash a sense rom you make a backup. I don't know where you got a prl file from, but you don't need it.

Lets try this a different way.
1. Are you rooted?
2. If so, what rom are you running?
3. What recovery?
4. What is your current prl?
Answer these and we can get you fixed.

Yes
Aospmod 0.9.9.2
Clockworkmod latest stable 2.5.0.7 I think

Ok, good.
1. Find any Sense rom on here. Liquid Sense or nfx are both good choices, and download.
2. Go into your recovery and make a backup.
3. Wipe everything, data, dalvik, cache, and flash the sense rom.
4. Once booted up, update your prl and profile. DO NOT check for updates. Just profile and prl.
5. Once they have updated and applied, you should start getting text messages. Send out a couple, get a couple.
6. Boot back to your recovery and make a backup of the sense rom.
7. Restore your aospmod backup.
Done and done.

Before I restore back to the ROM I want (step 7), should I wipe everything again?

Meh, doesn't really matter. You can if you want to.

Dust Returning Phone - Any advice on New Hero?

So I got the dust issue some others have with my Hero. After 7 months I finally got it. Still wonder why. Anyways, a few weeks ago I took it into sprint and they told me I could just a new hero. I declined because I wasn't sure of how it works with my root and custom rom on my phone.
We'll now I know that I can do a nandroid backup of my phone and do a restore, so I can get my new phone to the same state its in now...correct?
I want to get a new Hero I've decided, minus well if its free. What should I look out for though as far as RUU? I know the .5 build can be rooted right? So I could technically put my recovery console back on the new phone and do a restore. If its 1.5, I shouldn't have any worries. So should I be checking the ABOUT PHONE before I take it outta the store? Any other recommendations?
Also I wonder if I have to wipe my phone or something before giving it back to them...for security purposes.
Thanks in advance
Flash The .6 Rom from the HTC website before you return it. That will wipe any sign of root off of your phone. But before that backup your nandroid to your computer. When you get your new phone check to see if its .5 or .6. If its .5 then to ahead and root then restore nandroid. If its .6 then search the forum for the "how to root cdma hero 2.1" and scroll down to the second post and click on "my personal one for testing" or something like that and download the .5 Rom and flash. Then root and then restore

Great...Thanks! I will try that
Yep, I have a replacement coming from sprint soon, and these answers are about right on the money for my plans.

Nandroid error

I needed to upgrade my prl so I made a nandroid of CM6.0 stable. Upgraded my prl with fresh then proceeded to restore the nandroid. It gave me the error to run nandroid-mobile.sh in adb.
So, I did what some people said to do. I cleaned my SD card and repartitioned it. I have over 5gb free and still the same error. Help?

Have you tried pulling the battery and going into recovery again?
Sometimes that works.
CM6 Android 2.2.1 Froyo Darchstar
Radio 2.42.01.04.27
*Bite me Sprint!
Did you try to do a wipe of your system / data / cache and dalvik cache?
Had the same prob i just reflashed my recovery and all of my backups worked again hope this helps good luck
Root-Hack-Mod-Always™
Did you rename your nandroid file? I did that a couple times and was never able to restore them until I changed the name of the file back to what it was originally.
+1 you can rename nandroids just as long as you don't use any spaces... you can name it: CM6.October.10 but not CM6 October 10

[Q] Not receiving texts, because of bad restore?

I recently flashed cm6 coming from aospMod because I had a problem with one of my nandroid restores not restoring properly. (Apps not running right, randomly closing) When I had cm6 running, I stopped receiving text messages. I flashed aospMod again and I still can't receive. I know the text messages are coming to my phone because I can see it connect to 1x real quick as usual. Would it be something with my nandroid restore? I think I have to go back to stock and reroot. And yes, I wiped and blah, blah, blah..thanks ahead of time.

So you wiped/did a factory reset before loading CM6, flashed GApps, and still no texts?
Have you tried CM6.1.0? It's newer than CM6.
Did you load an alternate kernel? That may help.
I'd try starting from scratch. Do a full factory restore, load CM6.1.0, then load this kernel and flash Google Apps and see what happens. Just redid my phone this afternoon with that setup with no issues at all in regards to texts...but all phones are different I suppose...
I have had this happen to me....you will need to flash a sense rom and then CM....hopefully you have a nandroid from before that started, otherwise just flash your rom and kernel if you use a custom one and you should be GTG

[Q] Selling my hero: How do I wipe it clean of personal information?

I am running the latest Cyanogen Mod on a HTC Hero CDMA and have decided to sell my phone and get an EVO. I have sold it on ebay and now need to wipe it and reinstall Cyanogen Mod. What is the best way to be sure the phone is clean of private data before reinstalling Cyanogen? I want to be sure all backups are gone, images, etc.
Here is what I was thinking:
Reformat a fresh microSD card, add cyanogen zip, flash cyanogen mod using clockwork recovery. Am I done?
Don't I need to wipe the phone's internal memory?
Thanks for help.
Has the phone been transferred to the new line already?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
that makes no sense they arent going to be able to activate it with cyanogen installed
Boot into recovery and wipe.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
As other have stated, they won't be able to activate the new line if cyanogenmod is installed.
I am about to hand off my old hero to a family member, and I think I am just going to flash the last version of fresh. It is my understanding that fresh still has the ability to update the profile and PRL which would be necessary to provision data services after transferring to a new phone number.
Out of curiosity how much $ did your hero fetch you? (gonna sell mine too!)
Thanks

I would run the ruu before activating the phone

What you should do is get the latwar ruin from htcs website and load that on. But if they want the phone rooted then your method makes sense

Don't forget to make a nandroid of your current setup before you start wiping and flashing.
