Tethering with Azilink

Azilink is my favorite tethering app on the moment which I'll be selling and switching for a Vogue (so I can have money to buy an Evo in the future ). Has anyone tried it to see if it works? I like it better than the other options (pdanet, etc.) and it's completely free

IMPORTANT in regards to wireless tethering.

I was an avid user of wireless tether but please do not use it while still running stock rom. Verizon and motorola have security features built into the stock software to help them track people using what they consider illeagal tether apps. Please refrain from using such apps until there is a custom ROM released so as to avoid bringing us to the forefront of verizons attention. In the meantime use pdanet USB tether app located in market. It is important that we as a community stop using our knowledge to continue pushing carriers and handset manufacturers from locking us out completely. If we continue our current trend of outrite defiance in use of these wireless tether apps (wheather you think it should be ok or not is irrelevent until a court rules on it) we are only hurting ourselves in the long run. Please for now use pdanet or similar USB tether app as they are not frowned upon by carriers. If you need to know why here it is, USB apps allow only one device to be connected which limits bandwidth used at one time, wireless tethers allow you to run everything in your house simultatiously greatly increasing individual strain on the network and makeing the user experience for all worse in the long run as the network can only handle so much.

im sorry to burst this bubble but the securty system also stops you from tethering completely. Im rooted but open garden tether does not work.

Thanks for the info. I've deleted the Wireless Tether app.

Proof should be provided or people are going to chalk this up to fear mongering

This has been reported multiple times. Any device running the new gingerbread is going to be blocked from illegal tether unless a custom ROM is installed that overrides it, such as CM7.

Wtf guys? I have stated multiple times to use the droid 3 hack.

The proof will be when we are all sitting around complaining because we have been locked out. You can choose to follow this advice or not but, if you think that I would post something to monger fear then apparently you don't know me. It will be people like you who ruin it for all of us. If you don't believe me then do your own research. Disprove it but, until then don't be one of those fools that say global warming isn't real. The evidence is in front of us. Android was completely open in beginning and we were encouraged to develop away. Then as more people began to abuse their power (knowledge is power) the manufacturers and carriers started locking everything down. If you can't see it staring you in the face your blind. Another issue entirely is people who have no aptitude for this what soever are bricking their phones and then getting new replacements simply because they can't follow instructions and shouldn't be modding to begin with but, that's a different discussion for a different day.

Well, I'm happy to burst yours. Use pdanet, I've been using it since unboxing this beast. I used it to set up adb and to find rooting instructions. And then to download su.zip folder.

I agree with the premise of your original post, but when you resort to name calling and "You do the research to prove my point" all credibility goes out the window.

Im inviting him to disprove my point not prove it. My information comes from all over various forums. P3droid a well known developer in our community first brought this to our attention. And it has been discussed on many other sites. People can believe what they want. If you want to wireless tether then go ahead. You can do it by installing app from third party source or restoring a titanium backup version from previous device then freezing all stock apps and processes related to wireless hotpot in titanium. Good luck.
I am just a modder like the rest of you. I do not benefit nor have any reason to monger fear. I am just providing what I know and have read to increase awareness... do with it what you will.

I heard yesterday that Wifi Tether 3.0 did, but didn't see anyone else claim that it did.

I would love to use the droid 3 wireless solution but i have got to the step of plugging the phone into the computer after having all drivers and the radiocom program installed and it the phone info does not show up
please confirm anyone who has got this to work that the phone is to be in PC Mode.
Again I have all the drivers installed have .net installed and the radiocom program and the phone usb in pc mode
I am running windows vista home 32bit machine
has anyone ran into a similar problem and corrected it that you might share

I fired it up just to test it. Wouldn't work for me.

Wireless tether is one of the reasons I still have my Droid X on Froyo...I use it a lot.
If I were able to get it to work on the Bionic, I might would consider purchasing it...although I am not thrilled about the screen on the Bionic.

Tethering w/ a 2GB/Mo limit??
I'm afraid to run anything tethered unless I have to. I'm afraid I'm going to quickly exceed the 2GB/mo DL limit!!

I downloaded and installed 3.1 beta 6 and it fired up. As soon as the program started the default tether from motorola also started. I was able to send out a SSID and my eee pad tablet picked it up, however in the list of devices there was a * next to the name. I tried to connect, no go. Sure do hope Verizon doesnt send me a nasty letter

Guys... this happens. I pretty much think the kernel needs to be modified as this happens on my TBolt when a kernel has a bug. Until we see if the boot loader is going to be unlocked... dont hold your breath

There seem to be a lot of people who depend on tethering... why don't you guys just get PdaNet. Works perfectly fine on the Bionic and you dont even need root...

although you have said this multiple time, i have yet to see someone get it to work on a bionic.
nobody seems to be able to reproduce your results (if you have done this, not saying you didn't but i don't remember you saying you did either)
waiting for a custom rom may be a bridge to far for most people .. just depends on unlocking the bootloader... I am hopeing it will be soon...

Coming from Android with a few questions...

I just ordered a HTC 8x (keeping my 32gb SIII for now) from Verizon and had a few questions. I have not used a Windows phone since my HTC TP2 - which I loved until the HTC Incredible came out. Is there an app that allows WiFi tethering - like FoxFi? I don't use it all that much but when I travel it is nice. I am grandfathered in to unlimited so the tiered plans are not an option. I also use mass txt messages several times (13 team members) a week and I am currently using GoSMS to do it. I am hoping there is a similar app that allows mass txting on Windows Phone OS - stock would be great. Does the wireless charging system use more power than the traditional hard wired cables?
Looking forward to WM8 & thanks all for any help!

On WP8 only way to tether (I could be wrong) is to pay carrier extra fee. I am waiting on another option as well, and as far as mass text you can do that in the groups setting I send out text to 16 people at a time for basketball games and such. And the room feature seems to be nice but I haven't used it yet. There is also http://xyo.net/lumia/ which will tell you what apps are somewhat equivalent.

WP8 -- in settings has an option for internet sharing (no app needed) that provides up to 5 other devices (at least on my 920 with AT&T). I assume that this is a general option in WP8 ...
I have the shared data plan that allows tethering, so I am not sure if networks need to have it allowed in order to use it ...
But, the option is there without the need of an app ...

wi-fi tethering is a built-in feature in WP8 (since WP7.5) - it's called "internet sharing". i have no problem with at&t, using my nokia 920 as a wi-fi AP for my notebook and my ms surface rt. i can even go remotely to my work computer through VPN.
you can create a group, adding anybody from your contacts. after that you can send email or text sms to all the contacts from this group - just by one click.
and yes, you don't need any additional applications for these features.

i've been a t-mobile customer, and now i'm an at&t client. i didn't pay anything additional for using my phone as a modem (through bluetooth or wi-fi, whatever) and i'm not paying now. the only payment you should be aware of - for the data, you use. i subscribed to a data shared mobile plan in at&t - $90/mo for 6Gb shared data (plus unlimited voice and text) for up to 10 (i believe) lines (i use 4) plus $35/mo per device. i pay $225/mo for 3 smartphones and 1 simple phone. we've never overlimited our 6Gb plan. though if you do, it costs $15/1Gb.
the room is a cool feature, but it works only for WP-phones. but as i said you can group your contacts to be able to email or text all of them by one click.

I think on Verizon unless I am on the Share all plan I am not allowed to use the wifi/bluetooth tethering. At least without an app like FoxFi. Speaking of contacts... how are they managed on WP8? I will go out on a limb and say iCloud is definitely out and probably so is Gmail... hope its that easy.

The 6Gb data share plan (for families, or 5Gb for individual) is needed to enable tethering with AT&T ...

Gmail is seamless, and so are your contacts if they're synced with Google.

I'm sorry man...but why the hell would you ever leave the gsIII for any other phone period? All the things you need are on Android and the gsIII.

While the SIII is a great device it is NOT the end all of phones. There are still plenty of force closes and lock ups on the device. I am just wanting to try something different and I have been looking forward to WM8 for a long time. Here's hoping.

the only way to avoid lockups is turning off these phones.

I don't think I've had a lock up or app crash on Windows Phone. They were all too common on iOS though.
But can we leave all the playground arguments over best platform to some other forum? they're only phones at the end of the day.

You're the first person in this thread to mention best platform, no one is arguing.

Crashes are present in Windows Phone as well, but are less obvious as the system simply closes down the app without saying a word.
In most cases, crashes are due to the poorly written app and not the system.
Although I have a killer wifi and university that restarts my phone lol.

After reading several of your posts, I still can't figure out if you are a WP8 supporter or not.
Either way, I have been on Android for my entire cell phone career for several years and most recently had the GS3. I can't even tell you how many force closes I have had from apps, lag and slowdown because of horrible resource management of the OS, dalvik cache slowdown, etc. I rooted all of my devices and was heavily into the technical side of things.
I never had an iPhone but have played with many. Never was my cup of tea, but I won't talk bad about it since I simply don't know enough.
I finally grew tired of it all and purchased a HTC 8X last week. I can tell you that WP8 OS is such a breath of fresh air coming from Android. There is absolutely no lag or slowdown whatsoever....ever. I can pop in and out of apps, do whatever I want and it constantly stays smooth. No ram dumps or reboots required. I also have not had a single force closed app or random reboot like some people have reported. It has been an absolute flawless experience so far.
Just thought I would post some positive energy after a lot of negative. Is WP8 a lot more simple than Android? Yes. Is it a bad thing? No. It's such a seamless and smooth experience that I'm not sure I can' go back to Android at this point. At least not for a while. YMMV.

I'm not being defensive at all. Just stating my opinion based on your quote. The other reason why I quoted you is that I've seen you all throughout this WP8 forum sort of talking down on WP8. Just curious as to why and which side you are on. Not saying you have to pick a side or you can't talk down on WP8, but just curious.

Anyhow, my bad. At the same time, my experience with WP8 that I posted doesn't change. I'm loving this OS so far! :good:

A ton of folks are, enjoy it. Don't take this stuff seriously, it's just a phone at the end of the day.

Hotspot not so unlimited with root. - T-Mobile USA LTE

Got cut off today while finishing the Dragon Ball series. I have LTE enabled and was streaming with it. I still love t-mo though, coming from Sprint their speeds are to die for.
Didn't see a thread about this.
Edit: not to say they ever implied it was unlimited in the first place, but it would seem so with root.

Unlimited 4G with 500MB hotspot. Took Sprint 2.5 years to catch me tethering without paying with hot spot hack on sph-d700 (epic 4g)

Well the hotspot of all their plans it technically only 500mb then you have to pay an extra $10 for another 1gb. Using data on the phone is unlimited. They probably saw your user agent string and noticed it was for a computer rather than your phone. Still you got a lot more than 500mb of hotspot out of it, so not too bad a deal.

They probably noticed quickly because it was so much data in a short period of time. If you spread out the tethering more (maybe less video), they probably wouldn't notice. I'm on the $30 prepaid plan and tether around 5gb a month but I spread it out over a couple days (maybe 500-2gb a day) and haven't been caught yet.

Yeah but compared to Sprint, T-mo is really keeping an eye out for the tether'ers. Glad I got as far as I did though lol. Any way around the user agent string?

Yeah you can spoof it by changing your browser setting. Depending on your browser you can look it up: http://www.howtogeek.com/113439/how...user-agent-without-installing-any-extensions/
It's a feature built into basically all browsers.
It decreases your chances of being detected but it really depends on how tmobile detects tethering. The user agent way is the simpliest and quickest but they can also do it by TTL (time to live) of the packets your computer requests as you for example watch videos or browse. They can also detect it other ways but those are 2 of the more common ones.

Basically changing your user agent is the quickest method that my help a bit (depending on if they favor that detection method). Using a vpn on your computer might further and better prevent detection. (I've never tried this myself but in theory it might help more than a simple user agent change. You can find guides of other methods people use to try and get around it. I haven't heavily investigated any other methods aside from the vpn and user agent since I've never been cut off so I don't really know of of any specific ones.
I personally think the thing that really tips them off is a huge spike in usage for a short time period.
If you tether over bluetooth or USB, you basically never get caught in my experience as well as several others I know who do the same. So I would try that. It's a bit slower but not bad.
I'd suggest bluetooth or usb tethering next time and see if that prolongs your hotspot usage. But as I mentioned, I really think it is the massive usage spike in a short time that tips them off so you may still get caught. When I use bluetooth and usb tethering, I still try not to go to heavy on usage over short periods.
I suspect that the TTL method may be more commonly used since it's not easily avoidable so you are best off slowing your usage when you are tethered. It would be very easy for them to see a spike in usage and check the TTL of your packets, realize you're tethering, then cut it off. It's more reliable than user agents.

It's funny though that I can go to G+, FB, and G-Mail but not uanime.com or any forums, whether USB or wireless tethering now. Guess I'll try spoofing.
Edit: Override the user agent in the browser on ChromeOS to resemble a GNex and it works, thanks. Although some web pages are now literally half the size they used to be, it doesn't effect full screen videos.

They blocked all the user agents I used to be able to use. They certainly are beefing up their detection abilities.

Lol no problem, glad it works for you now. :highfive: Yeah that is the downside I forgot to mention. You can try to fix that problem by experimenting with making your browser look like other desktop browsers (for example maybe tmobile doesn't block some of the more obscure desktop browsers like opera etc.) or copying your phone's desktop style user agent in chrome. That might result in desktop style pages but tmobile will think you are a phone requesting desktop. (the user agent actually shows your operating system too so if you spoof that part to android you should be able to get desktop style while still staying hidden) You'd have to look up the android chrome desktop user agent though. I don't know what it is.

Yeah they do seem to figure out the user agent trick eventually if you use it several times. That's happened to other people I know. I think if you keep using a lot of data when tethering eventually they review your usage more carefully with their other methods like the TTL check.

Absolutely no less than 90% of this has been used while connected via native wifi tethering, and this usage is over the course of only 2 weeks. I have unlimited 4g (prepaid) and no tethering plan at all.
I've gotten a page that says I'm either not authorized to tether or over my limit two or three times in the last 3 days, but I just disable/re-enable tethering and reload the page....that's solved it every time.
just in case anyone is wondering, I'm using native wifi/usb tether on official PA (always the latest build) and franco M3 kernel....I've also got the chrome user agent switcher installed on my phone and set to desktop. I'm sure that doesn't matter, but I thought I should mention it. I'm also using chrome on my ubuntu PC with no user agent switcher installed.
I'm curious how much data everyone else who has had a problem tethering have used. I'm pretty sure my usage is way heavier than probably 99% of their customers...even those of us here

I stay on LTE, no serious difference in battery lifeand I'm usually plugged in while I tether, so battery life doesn't matter much there. Perfectly stable until T-Mo discovers you're over the limit.

I wonder if whether or not T-mobile can measure how much data you've used for tethering without using their hotspot app (what they use on T-mobile branded phones to meter tethering usage) depends on the APN you're connected through?

Update wow, I got my Chromecast today and viewed The Hunger Games and a few episode of Breaking Bad through Netflix and it really sky rocketed my data usage. I guess it'll take some time for T-Mo to catch on to Chromecast tethering. Someone let me know if I should delete this post in case T-Mo is watching.

I don't think that has anything to do with chromecast. You streamed a ton of high res media. That uses data. Don't you have WiFi where your TV is?

No, I know it's not the Chromecast at fault, just stating I was using that to stream though. I'm surprised at how well its working and I've never streamed 1080p before so the jump in data usage caught me off guard a bit.

Hello, I have a droid maxx and coming from a rooted HTC rez I enjoyed my WiFi tethering... A lot. I was hoping for the same on this phone, and I had it on 4.2.2 but I was a soak tester so I lost it. I could no longer root my phone to get my tethering but I found an app that will let you tether on the new droid devices no root on kitkat. Just install app from play. Start app. And your tethered!

If it actually skips the entitlement check on unrooted devices then it should work, but I wont be able to try it since I'm rooted... Try and report back

Trying to tether my Droid Maxx
I damaged my Droid Maxx that WAS running 4.2.2 which allowed FoxFi to wifi tether my unlimited data plan. But my replacement device came with 4.4.4 (SU6-7 & 24.3.7.obake-maxx_verizon.en.US), and FoxFi doesn’t support it passed 4.3 on my device.
I really want my tethering back (without paying twice for my unlimited data!).
Supposedly a Daniel Pocock authored this method to unblock tether on 4.4 with no root required:

1. Enable developer mode (Go to Settings -> About phone, and click on the build number until the developer mode is enabled).
2. Enable USB debugging under Settings -> Developer options
3. Connect the device with a USB cable to a computer with the Android SDK platform tools installed
4. Start an adb shell: adb shell
5. In the adb shell, run this command: settings put global tether_dun_required 0
I did steps 1-3 of installing, downloading, degugging, and plugging in USB cable. Problem is I have no idea how to do 4 or 5. Nor do I know if this will even work.
Can anyone help me execute steps 4 and 5, or even comment on accuracy/reliability of this method.
Plan B
While I prefer the laziness and safety of not rooting. I’m willing to do what it takes to get my tethering back. If I end up rooting, I’d like to reduce apps permissions and maybe try a ROM (Lollypop?)… But I’d need much more education on the whole topic, recovery, the whole bit. Obviously some methods are WAY more complicated than others (rootjunky). Tempting are the “easy” root methods like: towelroot, oneclickroot.com, kingoapp, SRSroot, etc., but again, my knowledge is lacking and I’d happily settle for getting my tether back.
Plan C
I've seen some pay for services online that will root my phone for me priced $20-40. Depending on their level of support to help secure my rooted device, apps, etc. I'd SO be willing to pay a reasonable one-time fee to a bona fide expert to just "get er done" rather than struggle to find good info and learn all this. I can't even follow what looked like simple instructions above :[. Any input on this idea is welcome as well. (Is the desperation obvious? lol).

But its all greek to me. I can't "run" anything, or "start a shell", I must be retarded, lol. The SDK Android studio app might as well be Greek as well - I've look thru all the menus but its obvious I'm way out of my league here. I used to consider myself somewhat of a techie, but not after this exercise!
Is there hope for us mere mortals?
If the method on my last post seems viable i'd like to try it. Otherwise I figure I'll just have to pay one of those websites, rather than pay VZW another $30 monthly for the privilege of using the data I've already purchased.
Really need that tether back. Even if i get it rooted, I'm not sure how to "fix" the tether problem...sigh...

Just to check... I have a Droid Maxx XT1080M NON ROOTED. I am using it in a GSM network and I can tether without problem (USB, WIFI and BLUETOOTH).
This is not available to other Droid Ultras/Maxx??

Semi-Solved
I Solved my issue of trying to use my unlimited data via hot spot. Apparently Big Red V corrupts android OS with an added subscription process for the hot spot function. They want us to pay an additional $30/mo to use our hot spot. Technically that's illegal & against FCC rules, so they call it a "device feature" instead - which actuality is a device hobbling practice (read extortion) imho. FoxFi app has circumvented this subscription process in the past, but the carrier breaks this with each and every update. Android 4.4 has pretty much locked down the boot loader most commonly used to ROOT. What's a user to do but choose a phone with unadulterated Android OS, which was my solution. Moto has come to the rescue with the X pure edition! Now turning the hot spot on and off is super simple -- right in the pull down menu of android 5 and 6. Yay for unlocked, pure Android phones that are free of carrier manipulation! No Root Necessary! Thanks Moto!:good:
