Hi,
I am wondering if there might be a way reading the backups made with "Droid 2 Bootstrap Recovery" on a PC, i.e. mounting it as a loop image in Linux or with IMDisk under Windows? I've been searching for a while already but I could not find any info about it.
CU,
Mészi.
Update...
Code:
# losetup /dev/loop1 data.img
# fdisk -l /dev/loop1
Disk /dev/loop1: 516 MB, 516592640 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 62 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xffffffff
Disk /dev/loop1 doesn't contain a valid partition table
Ok, the IMG file is no disk image. But what is it?

It is a YAFFS image. I use unyaffs or dsixda's Kitchen to extract it, and mkyaffsimage (I cant find the link, but you'll have to compile it yourself) to repack (I never tested this one).
Just on Linux... for Windows I don't know a working method.
PS: The thread is in the wrong forum, no one comes here...
Hiya,
Can somebody post the output of "sudo heimdall print-pit --verbose" from linux with a fully working 16gb galaxy note?
Thanks!

I can do it if you do the same with none working Note
Can I do it from Windows?
Heimdall doesn't recognize my note, Odin does, When I tried installing heimdall drivers, i run zadig.exe, it won't show me any Samsung device in the list (yes i pressed show all and phone is connected in download mode.)
So i can't do what you want from this computer, i'll try again at home.
Here is the output from my Note :

I don't know if it worth mentioning it, but at the end I got some libusb errors -7.
Maybe its because the permission is denied.
Pls try it with this:
sudo chmod 666 /dev/bus/usb/001/00*
* stands for the port.
e.g.
If you have a "USB -7" error, so pls type this:
sudo chmod 666 /dev/bus/usb/001/007
or
If you have a "USB -3" error, so pls type this:
sudo chmod 666 /dev/bus/usb/001/003
and so on...
Thanks guys, i dont have the file near me from a broken note but i believe it looks the same still, i was trying to make sense of the heimdall readout. Its odd that doing a dump of the pit file from it produces a different binary file than the one that everybody is using with odin.
Chris X.,
I did it from Windows and here is the result

By the way, is it possible to do a bit by bit (in other words a RAW) ROM extraction/flash (many people including me would do it considered the work you already did for the community and the fact that we would learn a bit more on Note internals) so afterwards, an simple EFS restore would restore you Note original hardware information?
Thats mine from a stock note with stock firmware LB1.

Regarding a raw ROM copy, do you think it is possible?
Chris X. said:
Maybe its because the permission is denied.
Pls try it with this:

If you have a "USB -7" error, so pls type this:

I think I got this error when I used my USBtoRS232 converter.. Needed a newer Linux kernel to get rid of the error or updated libusb package..

Which version of Ubuntu do you have?
Pls try this:

Dear All,
It looks like the AT&T version of Galaxy S4 Active (i537) is NOT attracting any hackers/developers for unlocking the bootloader even though there is a bounty already in progress. This device is such a nice locked down piece of HW which does not allow us to exploit the full potential of the device.
EDIT: Thanks my-blue-snog-box. I have removed that reference. Lets start collecting what we can in this thread.
I also have been a regular follower of the GS3 Verizon bootloader hack and I guess it is about time, we start something similar for the AT&T GS4A bootloader hack.
Lets start discussions, put down what we know, throw around ideas and knowledge and get help from people who already have been involved with unlocking bootloaders in an attempt to get this beast free.
I am not doing this for the bounty or anything. I just want my bootloader unlocked and start using its full potential. I request the admins to please keep this thread alive. I also request everybody else to thrown in whatever the hell they have information on. In the meantime, I will start by collecting what I have and put it up here for analysis.
BR; Wolverine
Edit: my previous post is now irrelevant.
A good place to start looking for people interested in the discussion is [REF][R&D] MSM8960 Info, Architecture and Bootloader(s).
And also [DEV][THE S-OFF CAMPAIGN] We need electrical engineers & experts in JTAG, OpenOCD! View Single Post (thanks Antagonist42 for the collection).
Post explaining some Mobile Broadband and Qualcomm Proprietary Protocols
I would also suggest interested people to look at how the Verizon GS3 bootloader discussions went and how some of the ideas were applied (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769411). We have to start thinking out of the box here.
One thing confirmed is that Samsung is NOT changing the boot mechanisms, etc. while going from one device to another. So we might be able to tweak minor differences to get to our goal.
Please do read everything about rooting and how to recover your i537 from soft bricking. Also make sure you have the 1-click odin installer (with MF1) ready just in case.
Last and not the least, avoid any updates on your GS4A if you really want to see some action and provide help in this area.
