[Theme] EC05 Stock Theme w/1% battery and reboot mods - Epic 4G Themes

I want to keep contributing as I can to this community. So I started this thread for Stock Themes with Reboot and Battery Mods.
Lately I have been getting a ton of requests for stock themes with battery mods. So I figured I would start working on that in my spare time and honestly, who wouldn't want the reboot mod....right?
In an effort to spread Autism Awareness as well as my family's story ALL themes are posted in the Theme Repository on my blog. Click on the Android Development Page and learn about Autism while your downloading the theme.....

Stock EC05 Theme w/Reboot mod ONLY
Stock EC05 Framework Android Guy 1% Battery Mod.zip
Stock EC05 Theme Reboot Mod Glowing Blue Battery Mod
Stock EC05 Theme Reboot Mod Solid Blue Circle Battery Mod
Stock EC05 theme w/1% battery mod (NO Reboot Mod)

Reserved for me

Stock EC05 Theme w/Reboot mod ONLY for those that like to keep it original and who wouldn't want the reboot mod?

List in 2nd post updated.

Thank you for the battery mods! I hated stock with no %.
And thank you for helping me more autistic aware and understand more. I volunteered at the autism walk in Az just a few days ago.

Thank you... That made my day

Thank you very much for the hard work. I do have one question. The stock android man zip has both the standard hdpi folders and also hdpi-v4. From the best I can tell the v4 folders are not needed. Is that the case? Can those folders be removed without breaking anything? Thanks again for all of the help.

OK I know I am needy but one last question. You have included the twframework-res.apk in the package. Is that necessary for the batterymod or anything else in the package. I already have a modified one that I would rather not have to redo.

Pardon my ignorance. By reading this title, I am assuming this is for Stock ROM's. I tried to flash the circle mod and i get force closes galore. I also tried fixing permissions=no dice. Tried to wipe cache partition, dalvik cache, and reflash and keep getting the same result. Did I misread this or am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance!

I got it to work on the Syndicate ROM. Made a backup, wiped cache and dalvik three times each and have had only one force close at the beginning with LauncherPro, but that hasn't happened since. I just flashed because I wanted the little android mod and using battery icon mod made my phone go into a boot loop. So I can confirm it working for Syndicate, but I'm not sure about Bonsai or the others.
Great work by the way, ptfdmedic.

OK I went ahead and removed the v4 folders and used my own twframework-res.apk. Everything is working great. I only have one problem but I think that is an Epic problem and not your mod. When I charge the battery with an external charger or with the phone turned off it works great. If I charge the phone while it is on the phone will alert that it is full however the battery meter says 96%. Sometimes it will say 100% but as soon as I disconnect the charger is drops to 96%.
So thank you again for all that you do. It is much appreciated.

On SRF, you need only download the Battery Mod app in Impaler's signature.

Are these for any ec05 ROM or just those with CIQ removed?

I am not sure if it works on every rom but it does work on stock ec05 so it doesn't require CIQ to be removed.

OK - forgive my inexperience in advance. I have Samsung Epic 4G just recently "rooted" , I have ROM Manager / CWM 3.0.2.4 = do I need to download / install something else ? or can I just download / install this ?

I am on the same setup as you. I used the android guy version. I did not flash it straight out so I am not positive of how it works. What I did was download the androidguy zip. I extracted the res folder from framework-res.apk. I removed all of the -v4 folders because they were duplicates. I replaced all of the images except the battery icons with the theme I am using. I replaced the twframework-res.apk with the theme file that I am using. I put everything back into the zip and flashed with clockwork. And that was all I did.
How did you install the modd? Did you just download and flash the zip in clockwork or did you modify it in any way? If you just flashed it straight out I would try removing the -v4 folders to make sure that is not the problem. If you modified it than make sure you only modified the images and not any of the xml files. Hope this helps. If you can provide more details about how you are installing it maybe we can assist further but try this for now.

I flashed the blue circle zip in clockword with out any modification. So if I just remove the -v4 folders from the zip then flash I should be good to go?? Thanks!! (Though curious why those v4 folders are in there in the first place )

I can't say for certain if it will work for you or not but it is something to try. All I can say is what I did using the android guy version. I have not tried the blue circle on. Plus I have customized it a bit and am using my own framework.res file. So any portion of that could be the difference. But let us know how this one goes and maybe the op can help figure it out.

[Theme] Black Hole Epic 4G FIXED!!

BLACK HOLE
This is my latest theme for the Epic, and will most probably be the last before Froyo is out. I'm not sure the framework changes in Froyo, but I assume it will be no trouble to port all of my themes over to Froyo after the release. I hope you enjoy!
First you need to root

do you know how the battery life on a stock deodexed di18 is compared to a custom deodexed rom. I really want to flash your theme. Also, does crake001 for the battery percentage mod work with stock deodexed and your theme?
i'm new to the android world but was successful with changing themes on my iphone. please help me by giving me step by step on how to apply this theme. i already downloaded to my samsung epic but is stuck there.
g.salas
I haven't played around with too many roms to compare battery life. I carry two batteries and don't really worry about it. I didn't do the battery in percentages on this one. It is on the list for the future. Right this second I'm using a blue battery widget. Flashing my theme over crake's battery percentage will erase his mod, but it might be possible to copy my framework-res.apk and twframework.apk. I'm not sure though. Keep checking back and the percentage mod will end up on here.

Alright, first you need to download the one click root method and one click clockworkmod recovery if you haven't done that yet. The next step is you need to choose a rom that is deodexed, or download the stock di18 deodexed rom and flash the zip in clockworkmod recovery. You cannot theme the stock rom that comes on your phone, it must be deodexed so you don't run into force closed issues. Once your rom is booted and running, just boot back into recovery and apply blackhole.zip. That isn't the basic as the instructions get if you need more help, pm me and I'll go into further detail, as well as provide you with links to everything you need. Everything you need is available here at xda. Don't hesitate to ask more questions.

having some trouble with this theme i have tried it on the galaxy rom by noobnl and the epic experience and on both right after i flash it the browser, contacts, and messaging icons disappear.
Sorry to hear that! I haven't tested either of these roms with the theme. The only rom I ever themed besides stock di18 deodexed was andromeda. I'll contact a few people and find out if there is something I can change in the theme to fix this. I'll pm you with anything I find out and update the OP to let others know. Once again, sorry about that! I believe when apps dissappear like that it has something to do with noticing a change in the md5sum. So I'm guessing that I'll have to sign those apps individually to fix but I'll wait for some confirmation before having you flash a mistake again.

I found the root of the problem dealing with the theme erasing half the system apps out of the phone on flash. I re-worked the apps and just successfully flashed over Frontier GS 3.0 rom, but I know it will work finally because I had the aosp magic rom and my theme deleted all the apps on there as well. It was because I was still theming apps from the dg07 build instead of using the ones from di18. Since I was using stock di18 deodexed, for some reason the apps still took but when I flashed any rom at XDA, the results were bad. I will update the OP and post as soon as I post the fix. Sorry for any inconvenience anyone has suffered.
Theme is fixed, link is updated enjoy!
Theme update! I have been real busy but haven't stopped working on the theme. The dialer colors will be adjust next!
Included now is a fix for the power control widget where you can actually see the buttons. Also the camera is themed now, here are some pics:
**Notice in the pictures the button to switch from camera to camcorder is lighter than the rest, that was fixed before upload, they should all be the same.
Also I themed Tapatalk pro on my phone. Since so many people use it, I'll help anyone who wants their version to match. I'll supply the drawable-hdpi folder and show you how to copy it in.
wow awesome work! Where is that power control widget? does it live in another apk?
edit: I think I just found it in the settings.apk (?)
Yeah settings.apk, just pull out the pngs for the widget or you'll get the other colors as well

Stock DI18 Theme Template For Themeing Stock/Non-Deodexed Rom

Stock DI18 Theme Template for the Samsung Epic 4g
This is for the themers to work from as a base and for those who wish to theme the stock DI18 rom on the Epic without having to install a deodexed rom.
Credit goes out to Raiderep and Crake for getting the ball rolling, and DearmasFamily for altering the code to make it work correctly. Thanks D, hope you guys enjoy.
This file deletes all the *.odex in system and framework, while installing stock files that have been deodexed and zipaligned. Should run very efficient! Hope you guys enjoy!
Flash in clockworkmod recovery right over the stock rom.
Download:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9718693/Stock_DI18_Theme_Template.zip
Should be updating tomorrow with even more optimized stock files.
Just updated link, found 2 media hubs on my phone.
I made a deodexed stock DI18 ROM already a few weeks back for this purpose.

This isn't actually the same thing. For the average user to get their stock rom fully deodexed, you are correct. They can run your update zip, then place a theme on top of it. But for the themers, who are testing multiple themes, or the users who use more than one theme and switch back and forth, there is a huge difference. Let me give you an example. If I'm testing out my mayan theme and I want to flash the black hole. Lets say the mayan theme has the fonts changed and black hole doesn't (not true, just for sake of argument). I flash my theme template to reset the font and then I flash the black hole or have the font from the mayan theme bleed through to the black hole. At this point I'm not going to flash back to a entire stock theme and loose all my settings, I'm just going to flash the theme template to reset the framework files to stock. All settings, including your launcher, phone apps, etc will remain exactly as is when switching themes.
Updated. I was told by Zienzu that there is an issue with the Media Hub not recognizing file formats. I replaced the Media Hub and its services so they should be just fine now. If the problem persists, please notify me.
Looks like the first go round when I had 2 versions of the media hub in there, one was the fixed and one the broken. I deleted the fixed version out by mistake.

Not quite the theme template for SyndicateRom has been tweaked to work without carrierIQ plus there are a few other changes in it like reboot option, 3 images for the GPS rather than 2. Sorry for the delay on answering this question. I'm going to work on a stock EB13 theme template.
I dont know if you've started already or given up already on the EB13, but I was wonder if you were working on an EC05 stock theme yet?

[MOD] Blue Segmented Battery Indicator, STOCK JL5, CWM-flashable**12/24/2010**

Blue-segmented Battery Indicator Mod CWM Flashable zip, cooked in UOT Kitchen (online) from STOCK JL5 framework-res.apk (attached below). Please do not blame me if you brick your phone by flashing this to any ROM other than STOCK JL5. (STOCK Voodoo JL5 kernel is ok.)
Just copy to /sdcard and flash using CWM.
A perhaps more conservative approach would be to cook your own CWM flashable using UOT Kitchen (online):
http://circle.glx.nl/
XDA thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775970
I say more conservative only in that the UOT Kitchen website will cook the precise version of the framework-res.apk that currently resides on your phone, thus eliminating any chance of versioning problems. This is very easy to do, even for a klutz like me. Takes all of ~15 minutes; no programming at all, just upload the framework-res.apk from your phone and download the resulting CWM flashable. Having said that, the attached flashable works fine on stock JL5.
It seems to me that this method may well represent a future trend in mod'ing, given that it is so flexible (configurable) and that the dev need only maintain a single website-based version of his/her code. Great job, QLIRATU, MENDOZINAS, AVREEN, and company!
Screen-by-screen instructions for Vibrant users, to avoid ambiguity:
(1) Make sure that you are running a deodexed ROM; otherwise this will not work. (E.g., krylon360 recently posted stock Vibrant Froyo JL5 flashables in both odexed and deodexed versions. Use the deodexed version).
(2) First Screen: I used the first version option on the first page of the website, "SCB with %, Version [A-J]". More specifically, I used Version B-White because I have black wallpaper.
(3) Second Screen: Choose "do not include icons" (that has to do with other mod'ing not applicable to Vibrant).
(4) Third screen: Choose "do not change notification status bar" (N/A to Vibrant).
(5) Fourth screen: Choose "do not include boot animation." (N/A to Vibrant).
(6) Fifth screen: Choose "not not include Windows animation" and disregard the warning in red. (N/A to Vibrant).
(7) Sixth screen: As detailed on website and in XDA thread, you can upload the version of framework-res.apk currently on your phone, or the version in the flashable zip file that you used to install your current ROM. If you do the latter, don't do what I did at first and try to upload the unzipped framework-res.apk from the flashable ROM file. You must unzip the flashable ROM file and then upload the unzipped framework-res.apk.
(7a) Note that after you upload, nothing happens until you press "Next," then the upload begins.
(8) Wait a couple of minutes for the cooking, then download cooked result from link provided and flash using CWM.
(9) It might be a good idea to un-install any previously-installed battery indicator mod (e.g., a battery indicator downloaded from Market) before installing this one, although I do not know whether this is necessary.
Enjoy!
P.S. Whatever you do, PLEASE do not donate to me. My income taxes are complicated enough as it is.

Right. This was cooked in UOT Kitchen; and UOT Kitchen only does deodexed. In general, odexed ROMs are not mod'able because parts of their applications are stored in various places.
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-709630.html
"Deodexed ROMs have their .apk's (which are basically the application packages) repackaged in a certain way. An "odex" can be thought of as a collection of parts of applications that have been pulled out and optimized before booting. This speeds up the boot process - in a way, it preloads part of the applications - but it also makes hacking those apps difficult because part of the original code is already extracted somewhere else.
Deodexing is just a process of putting those pieces back into the original applications. It takes a while to extract those parts and build the .dex cache (aka Dalvik cache), but only because the relevant parts aren't in an easy-to-access place for the system. The advantage of this is that an app can be modified effectively and the developer doesn't have to worry about conflicts from the separate odex part of the code.
So, short version: "Deodexed" ROMs have all their apps put back together. If an app can be themed, for example, a deodexed version of that app will not get messed up when the modified .apk tries to mesh with the odex of the original un-modified .apk. Because it's not there.
If you want an aftermarket theme, you need a deodexed ROM. I'm not sure if deodexing can be done to individual apps within a non-deodexed ROM."

You must mean battery life on JL5? (Because this mod will have microscopic or no effect on battery life.)
As to JL5, I am in the process of investigating JL5 compared to JL4. I will post results in due course.

I believe not, but you will need to check with the UOT Kitchen peoople.
This will not work with Axura 2.2 with JL5 stock Voodoo5 Kernel. Got me stuck into into boot ani bootloop. I flashed back a recent Nandroid and was fine.
The Kernel may be based on stock but the framework-res.apk is too modified in the Rom to run this and is not based on JL5. Custom boot ani's in custom roms are tied into battery mods and through this crap way off.
Like the op said STOCK, and that must mean completely stock not just a kernel based on stock.
The search for an accurate battery mod that I can see with Axura continues.

For some phone models, yes, but not for the Vibrant/Galaxy S, I believe. Check out the website to see. (It is not my website; I simply used it to cook the battery mod.)

I may not be following your post very well. When you say "this" will not work with Axura 2.2 w/ JL5, are you talking about the flashable zip attached to the OP, or to the method using UOT Kitchen? I believe that UOT kitchen will cook whatever framework-res.apk you are currently running. Just copy your framework-res.apk to the root of your SD card and upload it to UOT kitchen to cook-in the segmented battery mod, if you have not already tried that. UOT kitchen is very easy to use, as I described in the OP, certainly easier than "continuing the search."

But is there any chance to get this mod without the colorful circle? And how can I go back to the original battery status?

Very cool... the blue one fits perfectly with the colour scheme of the bar. I also like the way it flashes between the lightning bolt and the percentage while charging. Nice.
Jazzk-battery style ics-blue would be nice!
works great, thank you !!!
thank you for this. ive been trying to do this myself but had no success with it. here is my take with your zip. i took the battery pics from someone elses mod. sorry dont remember whos.

Are the new pictures already inside? I can look into it. Maybe you can write what you have done. Maybe only one step you missed.

You have to sign it. -> it works now for me.
Want you to post it for you or should I post it. Would give credits to you. Which tools do you used? The same as I? We should give credits to the guys.

[Q] Battery % Icon in UI?

Is anyone aware of a System UI mod to add battery percentage to the indicator for the First, without the need to install a secondary app?
Thank you. --Larry

A quick update:
Found the Notification Toggle app from the Play Store which does a very good job. Along with a large selection of some easy to use pull-down switches in the Notification Bar is a battery icon showing %. Actually very nice.
However, not being exactly what I was looking for I tried to use the OG Battery Icon Mod from XDA with my (mostly) stock (Odexed) ROM. It was unsuccessful.
Thinking it might be a problem with the Odexed ROM, I flashed CWM Recovery to replace my previous TWRP Recovery (for some reason the DeOdexed ROM des not flash with TWRP) and then flashed JMZ's DeOdexed v1.08 ROM. Unfortunately, I ended up the same failure when running the OGBattery Mod Tool (the tool was unable to download the systemui.apk).
Therefore, so far I am unable to make the UI modification, but am pleased to find the Notification Toggle App -- and with some help from Titanium Backup my phone is back where I wanted it, now running a DeOdexed ROM. I went back to TWRP Recovery. I have CWM on my A500 tablet, but TWRP just seems easier on the First.

You can use UOT kitchen. Just Google it. If you feel adventurous you can download my sense ROM and pull the diff battery mods I have there and push them to your device. All you need is systemui.apk. but this will only work if you are on a deodex ro.

Feeling adventurous, I downloaded your sense ROM & extracted it. In systemui.apk I see there are two (apparently duplicated) res folders and the sub-folders/files in res are also duplicated. Is this an error in the build or necessary as place-holders of sone kind. I thought I might try to replace the res folder in the deodexed ROM with this one, but it concerned me.

Thank you for the response. I couldn't figure out how to attach here, so I posted a screenshot of the extracted systemui.apk from your Sense ROM at dev-host: http://d-h.st/VOr
Note that there are duplicate res folders. Also, in the res folders many of the sub-folders and: files also have duplicates, prompting my question. --Larry

@jmk : After the confusion (to me) I tried a couple of more things:
1. Replaced systemui.apk in stock ROM with the systemui.apk from your Sense ROM. That did give me a Sense horizontal battery with %, but was too small to see. I was hoping for the percent circle.
2. I used UOT Kitchen to attempt to make the modifcation, but Kitchen returned a SHTF error, so no results yet.
Success!
I loaded & set up JMZ's Sense ROM with the icons I wanted, then copied systemUI.apk to the sdcard. After restoring my "stock" ROM I renamed the systemUI.apk in /system, then copied the one from the sdcard to /system & reset the permissions. I now have my desired battery icons!
@ jMZ: Thank you for the guidance. --Larry
