Somehow my Boot Animation disappeared? I'm running sense virus rom. I deleted all my boot animation. zips to try to get everything off the device and then I downloaded the stock animation and put it in the media file and the system custom resource file and it goes to my splash screen, then goes black, and then the phone comes on. Any idea how to fix this so I don't have just a black boot animation? Is there a stock boot animation around? What are the steps to properly installing it?
Didu name it right? Some have to b VZW_bootanimation. Others just bootanimation
inc
try this name it bootanimation i think thats what virus needs not VZW_bootanimation and pretty sure ur right about location(sys/customize/resource/)
still savin fora TB so dont have one to test
Downloaded it and renamed it bootanimation.zip then copied it from my SD card in root explorer and placed it into my system/customize/resource folder along with my system/media folder.
Restarted my phone. Got my splash screen, then screen went black. No animation.
Then I tried it using VZW_Bootanimation.zip
No luck. WTF!!!!!
Are u pasten 2 times?

Extract all the files from the zip on your CPU.....hilight all the files and right click, select archive, when the window appears select zip, and from the drop menu select store....mine was doing this also if I just zip it.....hope this isn't too confusing

For those wanting to change the boot animation on your Thunderbolt, here is a quick tutorial. Remember that you do this at your own risk- I take no responsibility. It is fairly simple though.
1. Download your preferred bootanimation and place on the root of your sd card.
2. Rename to "bootanimation.zip" (without the quotes of course)
3. use root explorer and navigate to the /system/media folder OR /system/customize/resource folder for VirusROM (I think)
4. rename the "bootanimation.zip" to "bootanimation.zip.old" and "Finalthunder.mp3" to "Finalthunder.mp3.old"
5. Next navigate to your sdcard, and find the bootanimation.zip file that you downloaded and renamed.
6. long press and choose copy
7. now navigate to the /system/media folder on your phone and toggle to mount R/W
8. Then just paste the bootanimation and done!
9. Reboot to check out your new boot animation
I will be trying to reach out to several devs who have made boot animations and see if they will let me post a link to them here so we can have a centralized place to get anims from. Will update as soon as I start hearing back from those devs.
How do you change the boot sound?
I was able to change this right after root by using the same methods as I used on my DINC. But I want to replace the boot sound as well. I have tried renaiming to thunderfinal.mp3, android_audio.mp3, and (VZW_) something .mp3 to no avail. Any suggestions or success?

rename it to:
thunderfinal.mp3.old
and it "should" work. at least it worked for me. if you change the bootanimation, just add ".old" after .zip
FYI - I don't think that is the correct location - at least it's not on my Thunderbolt. Check here: /system/customize/resource and find the VZW_bootanimation.zip.
I replaced that with one of my choice and it's working fine. The sound is there as well: FinalThunder.mp3.

It depends what rom you are using. The debloated rom has those files placed in media. I am running the debloated rom now.
Where can I download other boot animations?
In xda there are a ton of boot animations. Just use the search. I put "boot animation" in the search tab and got a ton of results.

The stock rom is:
/system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
Same as EVO not DINC, DINC called it VZW_bootanimation.zip
I've been working on a few of my own boot animations. The problem I found is that when I dropped in my own boot animation and left the finalthunder.mp3 right where it was. It no longer played the thunder sound?? I assumed that changing the name of finalthunder would make it go away otherwise it would play no matter what.
So why did it stop playing when I didn't touch it?
**EDIT
Duplicate post. Sorry!
Maybe the sound is tied to the original boot animation through a script or other file...not really sure. I am going to play around with it this week and see if I can get the sound working as I have a couple ideas myself. If I find something that works I will be sure to post back and let you know.

changing Stock animation
I'd like to know as well. I can't see anywhere in the VZW_bootanimation.zip where that file is even referenced...
Of course, I'm not exactly a scholar in this area. I just want to use a custom sound with my custom boot ani.
Thanks!

*UPDATE*
I extracted all the stock folders from the zip, I changed 1 PNG (the quietly brilliant splash in the 'android' folder), rezipped it and put it back on the bolt. When I rebooted the screen was blank BUT the finalthunder.mp3 STILL played... and there was no animation.
I kept the PNG file name that I changed the same as the original... not sure why it stopped working tho. {Note - I rename the zip (attached) after I have it on my SD card. then move it to the system/customize/resource.}
hey guys, having some problems making mine
i was able to make everything but i get no image. I made 120 jpg files for the VZW folder and placed them in their.
I then customized the HTC screenie for the android folder, and finally in the progress folder i placed a .gif (which i didn't think was a problem).
I also placed the desc.txt file as well, zipped it up and placed in in /system/media. No dice...
Anyone else having an issue or has had this issue and knows what i need to do??
edited because
Anybody got any cool boot animations running on their Tbolts yet?
Awesome this worked great. Thinks for the instructions.
okay, i need some assistance, I'm trying to make a fairly simple boot animation, but NONE of the animations ive used have worked I am obviously not doing something right, but not sure what
I can't get this to work either... I'm running DaBamf ROM and put these files in the system/media folder to replace what was there and all I get is a black screen and no sound at all... I haven't messed with the stock location of these files yet, so we'll see...
Ok this is a weird solution but it has worked for me.
1. down load the link below and flash it. When it boots up you will get the famous rick roll bootanimation that jcase put up on April 1st.
2. Go to /system/media/ and replace the bootanimation.zip with whatever bootanimation.zip you want.
3. If you want to add custom boot sound you have to name it android_audio.mp3 to replace what is there. If you don't want any sound delete the existing android_audio.mp3 or you will get Rick Astley every time you boot.
That has allowed me to change bootanimation and get custom sound each time I have replaced the ROM. If that works for you thank me and enjoy.
Ok as some of you know i have started work on a pre dev'd rom and things are going ok with it.. But my question is... Boot Animation?? A friend and I have tried all different methods trying to get this thing working but just no luck at all..
Here's the details...
Rom: SenseLX v2.02
Firmware: 2.1 Sense
Radio: 2.22.28.25
Hboot: 1.33.0013d
Boot Screen: Stock HTC (Quietly Brilliant) screen with little green loading bar at bottom..
also has a boot sound which i can get working so thats not an issue..
Ok so now i have tried the custom boot screen i want on a different Sense rom and it worked fine!! i made no changes to anything in the bootanimatin.zip than placed it in my SenseLX rom in system/media. Now after flashing the rom, the custom boot screen and audio i chose work for about 2 seconds than the whole screen turns green... untill rom has fully booted.
A. im doing something wrong and it can be something stupid...
B. that little green loading bar on stock boot is causing me some serious problems!!!
(i unzipped the stock bootanimation.zip and seen there was NO green bar image on the .png files for the boot screen)
so is there something in the files for this rom to possibly turn that little green loading bar off??
Or does anyone know what it might bee?????
Thank you, sorry if i didn't provide enough details just ask and i will give..
nobody knows anything?
It didn't work?

naa sorry man lol we tried tho.. im thinking its that stupid green loading bar thats screwing with it.. thats why the screen turns green for the rest of the boot lol
PM me the bootanimation, i will try something.
hey ldrifta when you rezipped the bootanimation zip in back into the rom zip file, did u use the store compression method in winrar? Boot animations wont work if you store them compressed. when rezipping, all you have to do is right click on the bootanimation.zip, click add to archive, go to browse and look for the rom.zip file whereever you have it, and then look for where it says "compression method" and choose the "Store option", then reflash and see if it works.

i was just placing the bootanimation.zip in the rom before i zip and sign it.. worked fine that way on 3.5 base
i will send it to you namit
I've done a few searchs to try and figure this out on my own, but I've been coming up short. I'm just trying to get a custom boot animation on my Sprint Tab. I'm comfortable removing the stock animation and audio. I can't, however, find anyway to add my own. I've tried renaming the custom animation to bootani.qmg with the stock one deleted out. When I boot up, though, it shows nothing still and boots up with no animation. Not asking for someone to reply with a written out guide, but a point in the right direction would be awesome.
Thanks!
Get your new bootanim (usually called bootanimation.zip butbif bit not, then rename it to that) then move it to system/media. Reboot and you should have been new boot anim

That's the issue. Thought that's all I needed to do, but after trying that exact method repeatedly with different animations and bootanimation.zip files, it does not work for me.
I've tried renaming the file bootani.qmg, bootanimation.qmg, bootani.zip, and bootanimation.zip.
The .qmg is the sound file so you don't need that. What video format is your animation? It isn't just the name that has to be correct, its the format and file size too.
I would suggest using the DukeNukem boot file, since we know it works, to verify the process, then go make a custom file. And be sure to post back with your results!
That would make more sense. I just sorta assumed maybe it was searching for a file name and not finding it. Will try once more with the suggested boot animation and let ya know!
DukeNukem was also a no go. :/
I don't have a sprint tab, but the system folders and files sound the same as my at&t tab. What I did was create a folder and moved the boot animation.zip, and the .qmg files in there, then moved the duke animation into the system/media folder.
Im attempting to add a custom boot animation to my OPO and I am having a lot of trouble. I searched around and all the threads basically say to put the zip file into system/media for CM roms. My current boot animation comes from a theme pack. I went into themes and unchecked boot animation before adding the new one. Even after adding the new one the animation from the theme is still there. I then swapped to the default theme, and im still getting the same result. I tried using data/local just incase, and got the same result. Do you have any idea what im doing wrong?
You may have a flashable zip as opposed to one you just simply put in the /system/media folder. What did the op recommend for install. I don't know what bootanimation you have.

I have the files for a flashable zip as well as a bootanimation.zip meant to be put directly into the system. The post provided both methods. I tried the flash through TWRP and it failed. As stated above I put the bootanimation.zip into system/media and nothing happens. I even tried it in data/local (had to create the local folder) and still nothing.

Can you throw me a link to which one you are trying to use? Also, what are you running? Cm11s, aosp, etc... You shouldn't have had to create the local folder under data, so best bet would have been the system/media folder.

Sure, thanks for the help. Here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115717. Yes Im using CM11s, rooted but not otherwise modified. I thought the problem might have something to do with permissions, so I gave the zip file permission to read/write/execute. Now I am no longer seeing the custom nexus loadscreen from the theme i was using, but I am getting the factory OPO lockscreen.

On CM11s the spot for it is definitely in /system/media. Make sure to move the old one into a folder called old or rename it bootanimation.old. The permissions should be rw- r-- r--. But, if you still don't see it the files may not be formatted to fit the one plus screen.

Thanks for the help, it seems like there might be something going on with my phone. Now no boot animations work. Even the ones built into themes that worked before just show me the stock boot ani. Any ideas what went wrong?

Not really any ideas. I would just flash back to sick and start over. That way you know the system is fresh and nothing should stop it from working correctly. Losing data sucks, but you could run a rom like Calkulin stock 38r. Just wipe phone correctly and keep all the sdcard data. Minimal setup required after that. And then try out bootanimation right out if the gate.

I ended up doing this today just to get the 38r update. Boot animations from apk's work again. Still no luck with the one I was originally going after but Im still trying. Thanks for the input.
Hi,
I've tried downloading a few boot animations from Theme Showcase, but no matter what I click (boot animations, fonts, wallpapers) it only shows me a list of themes to download. Is there any way to browse the boot animations form this app?
I'm using a OPO which is NOT rooted.
Ok so im stuck.
I've tried everything to install a different boot animation on my T-Mobile Note 4.
I tried downloading a file that was titled "CWM_CustomBootanimation_44_Enable.zip"
then going into an XDA thread that had a bunch of "bootanimation.zip"'s and choosing the one I liked.
Downloaded and placed it in my system/media/ folder.
Gave it the right permisions.
But nothing happened... I rebooted the phone and now all i had was just the stock samsung note 4 boot-up, but oddly i was now missing the T-mobile one that would show up right after, although the T-Mo jingle remained.
I kept searching and then found the strategy of just replacing the "bootsamsung.qmg" and "bootsamsungloop.qmg" files.
I found another boot animation i liked with .qmg format.
It came in zip folder and i extracted the 2 files, copied them over and named them like the original files (also adding an "_old" to the titles of the originals incase i ever needed them again)
Gave them the right permissions
Rebooted
And same thing again... just the stock black note 4 screen
At this point i decided to try another .qmg file, but this time for the shutdown animation...
Did pretty much the same run around...
and it worked! so the shut down animation was changed without a hitch.
I went back to the media folder and realized there were other boot files such as "bootsamsungmini.qmg", "bootsamsungminiloop.qmg", "bootsamsungmini2.qmg" and "bootsamsungmini2loop.qmg"
so i tried switching all of them to the 2 .qmg files i originally downloaded, with the right permissions, but nothing... still same stock black boot up.
So now, like i said, I'm stuck...
Should i have just put the whole zip file in the media folder? there were two folders in that zip. One was system/media with the two new boot animations and the other was META-INF/com/google/android/ with two files "update-binary" and "updater-script". Not sure if i have to do anything with these files.
Ive also heard theres an app on the market called Boot Animation but it has lots of mixed reviews, dont feel like going through the hassle of possibly bricking my device now.
And ive never been a custom rom kinda guy so i dont want to switch roms just for a boot animaion.
Any help would be appreciated thanks.
Anyone?
Most system/media files contain a bootanimation.zip folder. Make sure you delete it or when you put in the new qmg the system will boot from the zip file before the extracted qmgs
