[Q] sgs crash while playing music and screen locked - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just installed gingerbread xxjvk 2.3.3 on my galaxy s and then wanted to listen some music. but when i locked my screen my phone totally crashed and needed to hold the power button to reset. I tried it while playing from internal and external storage. and with eq on and off. i found out it didnt crash while browsing my storage and clicking a song and then play it. it only crashes if i search and play a song in the player itself. Plz help me i need my music
greetings jaap from the netherlands

I assume the music player's version is not prepared for gingerbread or that beta firmware has a problem with the way your player wants to search/open a file. Try a different one, for example PowerAMP is a great player!

It works. but i get an annoying clicking sound while playing sounds. i tried winamp to but it has the clicking sound to. So i solved one problem, and the next one appears

Trials and tribulations of running non stock/beta firmware i am afraid .

Where can i get the original rom from galaxy s?

samfirmware.com has all the official firmwares you may need. by the way in my opinion go for a cooked froyo firmware with speedmod or voodoo kernel as they have significant improvements over sound quality via voodoo app from market (needs compatible kernel) and also they're more stable.

This happens on my HD2 as well when sound is distorting due to to loud and gain. Maybe this helps in finding a solution in Gingerbread for this issue. Great rom though!

[Q] MP3 Player shuts down when sleep mode is activated?!

Hello,
I got a samsung galaxy S and just updated to froyo 2.2. I noticed that 2.2. installed some new apps. There's one app called task panel or task manager where you can set the ram Niv 1 & 2 etc. I think this program is causing the following problem :
I listen to audio courses on the phone. When i go to work i pause the course to pick up where i left off later. The problem is that since i installed froyo 2.2. sleep mode shuts down the mp3 player so that i got to start the course (30min) all over again. Before the update sleep mode didn't affect the MP3 player.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thx!
I had a problems with music player on froyo too. Try to switch to another music player from market. All problems are gone.

I'm struggling with the same problem and I don't want to install another player because the stock one is perfect, except for this problem.
Have you found a solution yet?
Install Music Mod from market. JUST DO IT

[Q] After upgrade (2.2.1 to 2.3) worse AAC sound

Hello good people of XDA. Its been a while since I made a post here. Needless to say, I've been very happy with my SGS.
So here's the issue. Last night updated my software to 2.3.3 Gingerbread-XWJVH. All is well and was happy. No lag and was hoping to use it right away. But, reloading all my music and listening to it (hoping Samsung "unlocked" the amp on this) the sound was appalling.
I listen to a lot of Metal, Post-Rock and Ambient music, from the original FLAC/320kbpsMP3 I downgrade to 64kbps AAC. Reason being that I get to fit a whole lot more tracks and it sounds almost like 160kbps MP3.
On the old 2.2.1 firmware everything was okay but this new one would not play the songs properly. Its like an iPhone, throw in an AAC HEv2 encoded file and it will play it like it was encoded in 32kbps.
Easiest route for me would be to go back to 2.2.1 and try Voodoo.
Cheers everyone!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I used SGS 1 GB and found no problems with sound files all AAC+ but at a higher rate from memory .

Maybe you try the voodoo control plus app.. brings voodoo sound to any ROM
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I'm also disappointed, AAC HEv2 doesn't seem to be supported on i9000's Gingerbread, it sounds like in mono, one of the channelsis missing (dunno if it's the right or the left one) . I've tried custom kernels and Voodoo control plus app, but it didn't help. So we have two options: 1) Switching to Cyanogen or MIUI (cause it's a Samsung issue, playback is still good in those roms) or 2) Converting our music files to mp3 and taking with us everywhere only a quarter of them all.
Damn it!

[Q] Media Playback/Codec Problem

What happens:
The phone refuses to play most media types, refusing to play songs, movies etc that had played without issue previously.
Music:
The stock touchwiz music player refuses to play mp3s, cycling through the playlist attempting several songs before exiting back to the list, displaying the error message "Sorry the player does not support this type of audio file". The same message is given when trying to use Fede's music app (fedecarnale's wp7 style music player)...
Video:
The video player gives the message "Sorry, this video cannot be played." while an alternative app QQ player plays the media without problems. Another example is the youtube app which gives "There was a problem while playing Touch to retry".
When does it happen:
This problem presents on both my Captivate and my girlfriends Vibrant after a non specific amount of time. One the problem presents, it remains regardless of memory or cache clearing, app closing etc.
What fixes it (temporarily):
As soon as one of these errors is given, the other apps behave the same way, and a reboot fixes the issue temporarily.
So I don't know enough about how the phone works to sort out the common cause of it all... but I can give you any information you want if it will help you sort it out... I realize that the difference between QQ and video player must be different than between fede's and the music player... I gather that he must be using more of the same stuff whereas QQ might bring its own codecs or whatnot... Any help would be greatly appreciated!
tldr:
I'm having media/codec issues with my SGS on froyo, have you heard of the problem? any ways to fix it?
I used to have this same issue when I was running Doc's XWJS8 Froyo rom with Hardcore Speedmod K13E Kernel. Since I switched to Simply Honey 3.5 Gingerbread it hasn't been a problem
I have this issue on stock Gingerbread ROM from Samsung (JPO). I didn't find a cure for it.
customer support was useless as anticipated, they suggested that it could be a corrupt app and I should factory reset... that is always their recommendation...
its just unusual that both my girlfriend and I would have it on different phones, different carriers and with a different set of apps...
The only real apps that we share in common shouldn't be going anywhere near media such as launcher pro and some games...
Well I was reading on another forum that Twitter for android seemed to be causing media files not to be read. More than one user reported no further problems when they uninstalled the twitter app and started using something different.
So it could be an app not playing well.

I have an AT&T Captivate with Froyo and I get the same issue. It is exactly as described here.
My phone has the froyo you install from Kies Mini.
Model number :SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
Firmware version 2.2
Baseband Version I897UCKB1
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9
I will try uninstalling my Twitter app and see.
The annoying part of this bug is that when i have a custom ringtone based on an MP3, it would not play so I would miss calls. I hope uninstalling the Twitter app fixes it. I'll reply back with it after a day.
This issue happens to me after about a day from restarting my phone (on/off)
I've gone a full day so far and my media still works.
I guess it is the twitter app?
Edit: yes it is the Official Twitter app causing this issue for me.
After uninstalling 2 days ago, I have not experienced this issue.

Motorola xoom sound problem

I have been using Motorola xoom since last 6 month. Initially it was running on Honeycomb but later on i upgraded it to the ICS 4.0.4. When it was running on Honeycomb i could play audio files on some websites very well( like online news, live audio from FM stations etc). Flash player was also installed on it by default. After i upgrade it to the ics 4.0.4, i downloaded flash player from adobe archive page and installed the latest one " Flash player 11.1 for Android 4.0(11.1.115.27) . Now i can play such kind of audio files but after few minutes i hear annoying noisy sound which even becomes worse afterward. It has been a permanent problem, few minutes running very well and afterward making noise. I would like to know any techniques to get rid of it. Can i still go back to honeycomb version without losing its performance. Is there any other solution to that. Waiting for reply.

music player doesn't work

Hi everybody,
I'm use to run in the afternoon and yesterday I tried to use my OB like MP3 player. unfortunaly, the songs start lagging after 5/10 seconds they started. I've disabled all gestures, without any result.
PS: I've the stock V30B 4.0.4 LG ICS
Does it working normal until yesterday?
1. try another music player
2. find if you have a bloatware, disbale it.

Sincerely I wouldn't be sure because I tried to use OB like mp3 player for the first time yesterday. So I'm going to follow your advice: try another music player. Any suggestion? maybe Apollo?
I don't know if I have or not a bloatware: from the task manager I don't see any strange software. Are there some programs/software that allow you to see if you have/n't these bloatware?
thanks

Power amp , Player Pro, Rocket Player, Double Twist, Winamp, Clean Music Player... and more you can try.
I love Power amp. In CM rom i used Apollo, in ICS i used stock player (because Dolby Mobile)
A list of removable app here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032668
But I dont think it make stock music play lag. But you can remove some to get best performance.
Also, you can try some ICS based ROM in Dev section.
