Im just starting this thread because its pretty obvious there are apps that are better then the stock one. Prob most people have two messaging applications on there phone, stock and maybe handcent or gosms. Well im making this thread so people can ask questions and to find out if somehow there is a way to delete the stock app and replace it with the preferred one. Im also sorry if there is a thread for this and if so I will delete this one.
BTW I prefer quickpic heavily over the stock gallery and i was wondering if somehow i could replace the stock gallery with quickpic.
Give your opinions and everything. Is it safe? W.e you wanna say.
posting fail?
i mean, we DO have a freakin themes and apps section AND a Q&A......
this thread hereby does not contain anything development related....
Sorry how do I delete this thread then

This is something that I have wondered too. Can you delete the stock apps and make your favorites the default? I know that anyone can set preferences for which apps open (Miren browser instead of stock android), but would there be any advantages to deleting the stock app completely and replacing it with your alternative? Is it even possible, since some 3rd party apps require the stock apps to be there (messaging apps)? I know that relying on one 3rd party app and not having the stock app (ie music.apk) available could be problematic.
Use a file manager with root capabilities and delete whatever you'd like. Gallery and mms apk can be deleted safely. Obviously, if the 3rd party app requires the system app to function then you should not delete them. What problems are you having with the music app? I use poweramp and deleted the stock music app with no problem.

I have a good number of games installed and they really clutter up my apps slider so I was wondering is there any way to put all the games in a folder to make things a little neater? I have tried and I could not find a good answer to this question so please do not yell at me if this has been asked before because I did look.
Thank you,
Ethan
There is no way to manipulate the app drawer to add folders to it. At least that I know of.

Look up Advanced Launcher.
You can create folders in the app drawer and hide apps as well.
Hey, I just rooted my I896 and installed TitaniumBackup. I want to freeze the stock apps that I won't use and I was wondering if I can safely freeze them. Like, is it okay to freeze the stock music and video players, the default sms reader, and some rogers apps (urMusic, Shop, and Ringtones)?
Thanks
Just freeze them and if there's any troubles Defrost them.
It's not like you're deleting the app, it will still be there on your phone just not
being use
This doesn't belong in here.Should be posted in Q/A forum

Hi everyone I want to remove the default phone and internet app from my phone. I know how to remove others by just deleting the apk in system/app like the gallery and FM radio, but the phone app is different you get force closes.
I'm using dialler one and opera instead but the default ones still pop up sometimes and because I've changed my dpi to 192 the phone app looks crap and annoying.
Can someone help with this please I did a search and couldn't find anything but to be honest the search in the xda app is below par.

Hi, i use Titanium Backup for this. It can backup, freeze and uninstall any app.
First i freeze system apps i do not like, so they are still there are can not be used by user or system. If there is no side effect after using mobile and reboot i uninstall app.
Hope this helps - Cheers
You need to be rooted to remove system apps.
Yeah thanks I am rooted used titanium never even thought of trying that have done the phone app but still unsure on the android browser.

Hi
then first freeze it with Titanium, it doesn't hurt
Like the title says. How do you uninstall stock applications on the Thrill?? For example...I want to use GO SMS or Handcent...so I want to uninstall the stock messaging application. How would I go about doing that?
You first need to acquire root. Then you have a couple options.
I personally just remove the apps I don't want from ROM zip. I heard there is some GUI that does this for you, but its not hard to delete a couple files.. Located in /data/app or /system/app
After that, sign your zip and flash away.
Or you could download a program from the market and 'freeze' the application. It basically remove it but keeps a hard copy as a backup. I don't know the name of the app, but a simple search will tell you.
Titanium backup

There's an app called "NoBloatFree" in the market. It requires root, and will backup anything you wish to disable/delete, just in case.
If you freeze or remove the phones native messaging app you will not receive any new text messages. I tried and that's what happened.

Certain system apps like messaging should not be frozen or removed as they may cause unwanted consequences. There's some third party launchers (I know LauncherPro does it for sure) that will allow you to hide apps from showing up in your app drawer.

Follow above methods for removing system apps. For the record you CAN remove the stock mms.apk and run gosms with no problems at all. I have deleted the stock mms.apk and use gosms and it handles sms and mms just fine. Handcent however can't handle mms without the stock messaging app but it will do sms just fine without it.

Unfortunately, this does not seem possible because touchwiz and its associated components all use different libraries, different frameworks, and various other complex components of the Android operating system that Samsung customizes. In most cases, its not possible to take a system apk from one ROM and just drop it into another ROM, and expect it to work. It may force close, or exhibit some other strange behavior. Sometimes, you can get a developer to change and modify libraries or frameworks to get the app to work, but it is a tremendous amount of work to convert these kinds of things. All this being said, if you want an app from a different ROM to work, it doesn't hurt to try to push apps to /system, as I've had some luck pushing apk's to system, fixing permissions and getting them to work fine. Hopefully, you can find an app equivalent to the Touchwiz SMS app that works just as well, if not better!
Thanks for answering so fast

I just use the stock Cyanogenmod SMS app included in Tonyp's CM10.2 Build, but I've heard good things about Handcent available from the Play Store, and I believe the GO Team has their own application for SMS too, but if you want to see a variety of options, I suggest googling for a list of messaging apps and seeing which one you like best.
