So instead of putting pictures up you should have a look at this review because there is a lot more to it Pocketnow review of SPB. It's not of the streak but just imagine the bigger screen.
I will just add my two bits. I like utility in a gadget but one of my major pet peeves with technology is usability. A good program should have the ability to be usable without a good deal of instruction.
I find this launcher very intuitive and, contrary to the couple of mentions in the video above, sometimes going a little extra on the eye candy without much utility is what it's all about. I really like this, the way it looks, the way it feels and also the way I can show a couple of simple animations that really dress up my tab even though they may have no real utility. After all, what do you think the competition is doing?
Original Post:
Just tried out this launcher. I've ben waiting for it to come out on android because I thought it would be a good tablet launcher.
Just so no one wastes their time or money; it says not for tablets. It its woefully under-res making it look ugly and their is no landscape mode.
If these two things were fixed it would be perfect. It was very nicely layed out, smooth and practical. I will keep my eye on updates and post if there its anything worth downloading here. A for now, I am not a visual snob by any means, but only spend the money on this if you have severe eyesight issues. It's definitely not something that will make your friends jealous of your tab.

Just got an update. Looking good now! I'll put some pictures up soon.
any update on those pics lmao
Will it fuction in landscape mode with the new update?
No there is no landscape view but I have found more and more that I am using my streak in portrait mode and it suits me just fine. Just posted a video, see OP.
i dont understand you have not said if it supports tablets also , you speak as if your running this on the streak 7 , if not what does this have to do with anything in GENERAL about the streak

I've been looking at this software. The web site says it won't support tablets, but the Streak uses similar resolution to a high end cell phone, and Android 2.2.2 is actually a cell phone OS, so I imagine it may very well install on the Streak. I believe that is what the OP meant.
But it wont...without cracking the app open and editing it ...

Please see my updated post above. I got this for my captivate but have found out that it works GREAT on my streak (after an initial update). I find myself using my tab in portrait mode most of the time so lack of landscape view is not a big issue to me at all.

It is not a launcher, it is a shell. It incorporates weather, clock, etc. It is pretty similar to SPB Mobile Shell, which I used on my WM device before I got my HD2.

What exactly was your experience? Did you try and install and it would not install?
The Streak is using a phone OS (2.2.2), and the screen resolution is the same as my HD2 phone: 480X800. And the S7 supports OpenGL. I sent an email to SPB asking why it would not work with the S7. I'll post the reply.
EDIT: Those pictures in the OP certainly look like a Streak 7, and that is definitely SPB 3D...

You are really getting my blood boiling. You hijacked this thread when it was first put up and you are trying to hijack it again now.
You are seeking attention by contributing nothing but hurling uninformed insults.
Your comments originally were all deleted and I hope a mod can come and clean it up again.
I don't live on xda or on my tablet so yes it does take time for me to post pictures. I just wanted to start my very first contribution to the steak forums because I have been anticipating spb since ces and I am really happy with my purchase.
It works without any hacking, just download from the market. True story.what further proof could I possibly offer?
Post a video and shut me up I post those pics because you seem to be the only person with a working tablet period with spb on it I dont care about the phone screen size when I downloaded this it hanged for 5 minutes then told me device is not supported and force closed show a video because that could be a screen shot from your captive

I tested it on my mytouch4g. It doesnt even go into landscape mode on a phone..only portrait.... major fail.. I really liked it on my phone but the $15 price tag and no landscape just kills it.

Yes, I noticed this several days ago, and i'm sure they removed it because they were sick of the low ratings since it didn't scale correctly.
The letters were cut off at the bottom so u could only see 3/4 of it, people kept down rating it because of that. E looked like F unless you physically moved the tile out to see the bottom.
And it still says this on the market page:
"We are actively working on improving the Words With Friends as much as possible. Players can look forward to expecting a Honeycomb version soon."
So like i said, I'm sure we will beable to download it again once it's fixed and an official tablet version is released. And yes, that update notification was a month ago like i said.
I submitted a ticket to voice my opinion. Us Honeycombers need to speak up if we want more app support.

Yep, I hope the honeycomb one comes out soon like it says!
It was cut off at the bottom, but it was still playable. I don't see why they had to remove support while they get their act together for honeycomb.
I opened my app today and it says "An upgrade is available, click OK to upgrade" (no other options). I click OK and am redireted to the Market, where I am unable to upgrade because my device is no longer supported. I go back ot the app and am greeted with the same message telling me to "upgrade" with no "cancel" or "later" option, just "OK"
The box refuses to go away (back button doesn't work either) so I'm unable to play. This is utterly moronic.

Does anyone know if the dock support mirroring now that we're on honeycomb? I know it didn't prior to the upgrade. I'd love to know. If not, what does it support, and would it be possible for any developer to write a video driver that would at least allow switching to hdmi (I have a broken screen, but still use my streak a lot with bluetooth keyboard/mouse).
51 views and no replies? Does anyone have the HDMI dock? It appears that the net has not 1 single review of the HDMI dock after the recent OS upgrade.

I'm using honeystreak r8 and just got a dock and get nothing? It charges and triggers "dock mode" my monitor has input sense & see something at the end of the cable (tried 2 different ones does this need a "data hdmi"?) but no hdmi from any app (stage. cam. various vid players, no dell sync) no usb, not even a failed usb install, any ideas on how to fix this?
I am running the same (r8). My docks hdmi works fine. Perhaps trying another TV or monitor will work. I use 2 different tv's and cables and I have not had that issue.

It just connects, there is no toast message or such.

Dude.... this device never had source code released and the strives that have been made in development are incredible considering the low number of knowledgeable people doing all the work from scratch.
I suggest you go buy a newer device with a wider range of development. Otherwise try to contribute to the streak development rather than complain that you can't find a perfect fit for your needs.
Stick withhoneycomb if you can't cope with certain variables and bugs. My dock worked on honeycomb for charging and hdmi output.
I don't mean to sound like a dyck, but you don't realize how you sound expecting everything to work perfectly and I have been following the progress of the development and offering help where I can from using and providing user feedback. It's not like I have made any type of major contribution, but I know the geniuses toiling over code for hours on end to resolve issues and bugs and sharing their work for the benefit of us don't appreciate comments that come across as whining or being ungrateful.... just try to hear yourself, my 2 cents
Giveens work can be found here and on tabletroms.com

Dude, relax
You say you are running honeystreak, which has been dead for quite a while and had its set of quirks. It is a custom ROM. You are wanting everything to work? = you want stock!!!
Go rock honeycomb. You own a device that officially lost support from the manufacturer in 2011. End of story.
You could even go back to froyo and have a "fully functioning ROM". Read some stuff, then read more. And start off with the XDA rules... learn the appropriate place to ask your question (this thread is not relevant to development and/or particular to an actively developed ROM)

Sorry didn't mean to get so bent, it was three in the morning and I was frustrated, turns out it was the pdmi connector which seems to be dissolving before my very eyes, looking left to right it gets thinner and thinner to the point I don't think the whole thing is even there. Our kids are using the N7 and I wondered how I could go about making it a good tool for them to learn on (games, letters, numbers etc.) but at the same time hide/restrict the more grown-up stuff, like email, maps and all the other stuff they won't have need of at this time.
I figured I can make a folder for all their games and learning apps, but has anyone got any ideas of how I can tweak the unit so when they use it, it will be "barebones" for them but still allow me access to the full features if the need arises. The unit is predominately for the kids so I won't need access that much. It would be great that once they switch it on, all they see is "their" stuff. Ideas...?
Thanks
As far as the "child proofing" goes, definitely get a good case and screen protector, maybe even something that they can put around their wrist when they hold it so they don't drop it as much.
To hide apps, download something like Apex Launcher and go to the drawer settings, it has a way to hide any installed app.
You could also install Avast! Anti virus. I think that has a way to block certain websites from being accessed and and also includes features to find the device when lost and lock certain apps.
There is also a new launcher coming out called Chameleon that looks a lot more straight forward for a kid to use. The launcher also includes pages of apps that change the feel of the device.

If you press the All Apps icon then touch and hold an icon for a built-in app, you can drag it up onto an Info icon. As well as showing you info about the app, it allows you to disable it. So you can install only 'safe' apps and disable 'non-safe' apps', including the Play Store.
Then all you have to do is make sure they don't have access to the Tapatalk app in case they read this post...

The Play Store definitely has some child-proofing available.
If you're on the more nerdy side, you could actually root the device, set it up how you like it, then either make the Market and other offending apps invisible, or lock access to them.
Just depends on how far you want to go. Something tells me that the Play Store child-proofing may be enough.
There is an app called Switch Me. Basically it lets you configure multiple profiles by setting up a new /data partition for each one allowing you to restrict access to certain apps and so on and even have multiple Google accounts setup for each user. You should check out out.

I bought my 5 year old an original Samsung Galaxy tab 7" and he is autistic so went through a throwing phase when he first started getting into electronics, like when he'd lose in a game. Anyway we have just a silicon case for it and it has with held the torture of all time and it is still in great shape. He even threw it off a second story balcony and it landed on a hardwood floor... bouncing afterward... but still chugging. No dents or scratches or defects. Thing is a champ.
While the Nexus 7 is a little thinner, I figured I'd reply anyway. GET A CASE.... and a screen protector. The Galaxy tab is a stout device but let's hope the Nexus 7 is AS good if not better. It feels solid.

No, not child proofing the nexus 7, but instead a "Childproof Nexus 7", as the title says, which is basically what that device seems to be. Though this would not help anybody who already has a Nexus 7, it may help somebody looking for a Nexus 7 type device for their child.

Thanks for the link to my blog. As for OP's problem of rendering the "original" Nexus 7 child proof, it's technically doable by "borrowing" ROM from rooted Fuhu Nabi 2. Naturally, presenting the kid an original Fuhu Nabi 2 and taking back an original "adult" Nexus 7 would be more practical.
Pfft! Just don't let your kids use it. Make them go outside and build tree houses, play with an abacus or read encyclopaedias. 80s *****!
I also agree on getting the nabi2 its a really nice device. My 2 year old never killed her nabi1 and the 2 seems even more solid. She has thrown both of them and took a crayon (washable) to it and wild off with no marks or scratches on th screen.
The only issue I have is no root on it, but its nice and quick. Screen is not as nice as my Nexus7, but it has microsd slot and HDMI port. I hear someone rooted one but Fuhu asked them not to release how, so if anyone hears about root please post it here on the forums. I thought about trying the root tool for nexus but she loves it too much for me to risk it.

Them Fuhuans can ask anybody anything, XDA-Devs is a free-rooting country. I think the race is on already, to turn Nabi 2 into a chewable/droppable N7 with SD slot/HDMI. My guess the N7 and Nabi 2 are twin brothers (ASUS 370T being their dad), so a "standard" N7 rooting tool will work. If not at the first attempt, then with some minor tweak.
I'm following Nabi 2 (and Furbi 2) progress in my blog closely, so you're welcome there. Can't guarantee being exclusive bearer of the news though....

what other fun things can I do other than NES/SNES/PSX emulation?
what can this thing really do that an iPad can't at this point?
Thanks guys! Digging my first android Tablet thus far!
Download a dosbox application and play older PC games.
Download GrooveIP lite (free) and grab a free Google voice number to turn your tab into a giant mobile phone.
Download a GPS app, get a mount for the car and have a nice 7" GPS with 3d turn by turn nav. I use copilot with the north american maps - activated 3d and voice turn by turn for $7.99.
Just a few I can come up with off the top of my head.

Not much really u got basicly a premium experience with the iPad, but one thing u can do that's unique is try out different launchers to change the look of your homescreen/app drawer, you can change icons, layout, etc. And if you really want to get down and dirty with theming you can flash a custom Rom with a theme manager and in the play store there are a bunch of themes to try to ur liking just be sure to make sure the theme is cm10 compatible, glad ur liking ur nexus 7

Google "Tasker". It lets you program your tablet to do pretty much anything.
Mine sounds Ships Bells every half hour, turns off wifi at night, starts the music player when I plug in headphones, and interfaces with RFID cards.
On my list is to have the tablet respond to a text message with a message giving a Google map showing its current GPS location,
and maybe a photo of its surroundings. Sky is really the limit.
And calling the iPad a premium experience is really a matter of taste. It would not be to me.

I respect your opinion on the iPad. Before hating on the apple bandwagon, the iPad 4th generation is VERY slick.
One thing i noticed on the nexus 7 is fast scrolling in apps like facebook isn't fluid. often I find it studders/pauses. Nothing crazy or bad, but if you really sit down with the iPad and keep an open mind - it's a very fluid experience.
The downside is how locked down the ecosystem is, which is where android shines. They both have their pro's and cons. I like them for what each of them have to offer. I'd never limit myself to just one platform. You limit so many possible experiences and gadgets....... and i love me some gadgets
is there xbox media center available for it? it's available on jailbroken iOS devices. I don't see anything for android (i have mplayer and vlc)

Let you look at the file system. Attach any type of file in an email. Install third party app stores and apps. USB OTG means you can watch anything you have on an external HDD. Hell you can even install and run games with a script from an external drive. There is a ton of things this can do an iPad can't. Not just emulators. Explore.

XBMC is on android i have it on my iconia a500
i dont want to induce any arguements mate i really dont wanna start anything like that, but you have just hit my pet peeve about apple users.....
to justify comparing a £150 7inch tab to literally the best apple has got.
a £400+ apple device vs. a £150 android and were still giving em a pounding?
i am srry to say it like that i dont mean to direct this at you. it just does get to me , why dont we see anyone comparing the ipad4 with the galaxy note 10.1? because we all know the outcome and appler's dont wanna go there. why is no one comparing the nexus 7 3g with ipad mini? same answer.

Doesn't the note only have a 1280x800 display? I wouldn't compare the iPad to the Note 10.1, the iPad would win hands down. However, comparing the iPad to the Nexus 10 or Asus Infinity would be a much better comparison.

Your opinion is something I love to see. Its not a blindness Apple hate or Android love, or Android hate and Apple love. You are in between, which is a nice thing to see. I have a similar opinion to you. Apple does some things better, while Android does other things better. This is a much better way to look at things.

Hi. first of all, sorry for my english.
I want to buy a new tablet, because i'm so tired of my ipad 2.
I found a guy selling his 32 gb 3g nexus 7 for 230 euros, 70 euros less than the official price. he bought the tablet in january 2013.
is it still worth the buy? how is the battery life? and the performance in day usage?
can i expect a long term updates support or google will let the tablet die after the 18 months software support?
i also have a 2 weeks-old nexus 4.
Where do you live? I bought my 32gb Nexus at a official store for 205 euros.
Edit: woops didn't Notice, 3g,

If your not worried about buying a slightly outdated tab, its OK, way improvement over iPad 2 with dual core 800mhz and 512mb ram but it does lag at times, but I would still reccomend it until the nexus 7 2 comes ouy

Just bought my nexus 7 32GB 3G about a month ago. I think it's still good enough even for now as it's still one of the best value tablet out there. Unless you're not in a hurry, why don't you wait for refreshed Nexus 7 to come out?
Btw, I got mine brand new for $325(about 250 euros) from ebay.
Again, for it's price, it's still a killer tablet. It's way better(imo) than ipad.

I would suggest you wait until the new Nexus 7 is released later this month, or wait till the current Nexus 7 drops in price.

I would buy it now, and I'd still buy it 6 months from now.
Unless the second gen N7 really appears in the meantime.
Don't buy it, the 7's a pile of ****. Wait for the new one or buy an iPad mini for smooth games, excellent sound quality, and no lags!. Things you will not get from the 7. For me, because of app quality, it's iOS for Tab's, android for phones!.

No i still love android and my nexus 4 and iOS is horribly closed(iOS7's a bit better though)without jailbreaking. It's just I thought my nexus 7 would be like a big nexus 4 but because of tegra(**** sound, laggy UI and games) and ASUS (poor screen calibration) it wasn't. But I was suprised by how superior iOS tablet apps were compared to android and how much more screen you saw while browsing(with the 4.3 screen ratio @7.9inch's it's %35)and despite older processing architecture it runs the most graphically intensive games smoothly!(Because iOS code is well written and android code is not). After swapping the 7 for the mini I realized Android apps don't cut it on tabs at the moment. Way to much **** in the playstore and the few tablet apps they got just cannot compete with iOS versions(particularly music creation apps).

And since you already tossed it cause it "lagged" and got an ipad.....maybe go hang out in their forum....all you're doing here is showing how lazy and tech un-savvy you are, since you couldn't follow a few simple steps and use a tiny bit of effort to streamline your N7.
You'll be crying that your N4 is junk too in a year......not just older then and bogged down with crap.....you'll be saying its just garbage. Lol
BTW....anyone that claims lag in 4.2.2 is unstoppable .....I'll tell you a secret....you can always flash an earlier android version if you've given up on 4.2.2.

Apple anything's are smooth and stable, sure....but you can't do Jack to them....you buy it, use it the way apple intended it to be used without deviation ....and that's about it. LOL. It's funny how if anyone dares criticise a nexus product there assumed to be a computer illiterate OAP by a million vexed android nerds! LMFAO!!. Anyone who buys a nexus device knows how to flash ROMs and run scripts. How old is the average user on xda?. I'm starting to think its very young indeed, or the people hear are thick! Having owned this 8GB tablet for many months obviously I was used clearing storage regularly and thoroughly, OK :good:.

After modifying sound as much as possible, overclocking the thing to 1.6 and using an app to adjust the colour and downdating to 4.2.1, clearing storage with many apps(sd maid and the rest)on a daily basis. People are proving how "tech un-savvy" they are in your mind only. Your an idiot.

First..... here* ... hear means hearing with your ears.
Second..... give it up friend. Of your whopping 19 posts, most are just to bash the N7, not criticize, bash. Try to post something useful and gain the respect of your peers.
Third..... anyone who buys an N7 roots and flashes? LOL. You do realize the majority of any device owners know nothing of such things, nor do they frequent websites like this. I bet most owners don't know what rooting even means.
Forth..... you obviously know nothing about rooting, roms and scripts yourself ...or your N7 would NOT lag. Like mine and so many others. Vroom vroom!
Have fun with your ipad....as much as one can with a closed sourced o/s anyway. I hear they are asking for you in the ipad forums. Buh bye!
Oh....see you in the N4 forums in a few months when you nerdrage about it being crap too cause it suddenly lags.

I'm not going to give a response to the first part because that was stupid and doesn't have anything to do with this discussion. Downgrading to 4.2.1 won't do anything. For results (according to some) you'll need to drop down to 4.1.2. Also, I think generally you need at least 3gb storage free to have a smooth experience (something to do with the crappy io chip in the 7. I haven't read up on it too much).
