Go ahead and bring it to stock + update to Froyo.
Also, so it doesn't look so weird, use it for a couple days so there's data and cache lol

lol yeah probably a good idea. although i hate the idea of running it stock for more then 2 minutes
Running it for a few days and adding froyo probably not necessary. I would reformat my phone to stock in order to remove all personal data before i send it in.

i was thinking the same in that most people would factory reset before sending phones in but i was thinkin froyo might be smart because it would be 100% stock then im not sure if our 1 click stock is 100% in their eyes

Idk how much they actually check it - I assume it's kinda random so I wouldn't take any chance.
Odin3 one click does bring it to stock but having Froyo might look better and show that it wasn't just brought back to stock (along with some cache and data).

While we are on the subject, IS there a 1-click for Froyo (stock)? I ask because i've been hearing rumors of it, and i just havent had the time to investigate.
If there WASN'T a 1 click stock (froyo) then disregard my question. However, does that mean the only way to upgrade to Froyo (stock) is through CWM? I know people have been doing it through Kies, but i'm not a big fan.

Idk if there is but tbh it wouldn't be so useful as 2.2 as recovery problem which requires 3e recovery fix so makes flashing more painful.
There's although Odin 1.81 which you can flash Rogers (I896) version of Eclair (duno if there's one for 2.2 - haven't really looked into it as Kies mini works well)

there have been several threads on this
ODIN ONE CLICK (and the other) CAME FROM SAMSUNG
so YES the odin one click is STOCK. ITS WHAT THEY USE to refurb ATT phones.
there has been no ODIN one click 2.2 leaked to the net.
we dont have the source code so we cant update the 2.1
how much do they check your phone? very little. the internal guts to replace at their cost is less than 50$. They have dozens of phones from each different model come in every day. They have about 10 minutes to hook it up to a machine that runs hardware tests for them. then it gets gutted. It is not worth their time to *see* what is on the phone. They only care if it works or not. so they can move to the next phone in the bin.
stock 2.1 is fine if it came with 2.1
2.2 if it came with 2.2. there are CWM 2.2 upgrade flashes available. use rom manager/ the update.zip method of CWM to install 2.2 then delete the update.zip and rom manager app.

Not necessary. Just odin and kies.
I would master clear anyway if I were stock. Just go back to stock, update froyo and that's it.

I recently just flashed a new rom and I had realized I never tried the stock 2.2 from samsung and I was wondering what people thought of it and if they were still able to flash other roms or use odin to go back to stock 2.1 and then flash other roms again. Or does updating to 2.2 mess up some of that?
And is it even worth it to try and check it out?
I am running serendipity and my wife has stock. I would not go back to stock if att were to pay me. Her Gps was messed up, bad battery life and other strange issues.

the only thing 2.2 may mess up for flashing roms is it installs 3e recovery which needs signed update.zip packages (can be patched ) , and sometimes you need a new root program.
besides that its... stock. with the 2.2 updates...
Has anyone tried reflashing odin or using clockwork/rooting in 2.2?
I'm thinking i'm going to stay away from it at this point but curiosity my get the best of me....

i sucessfully rooted it using superone click method...but had problem flashing clockwork mode as there is sign verification problem...so i tried to flash back to 2.1 and used AIO method...which bricked my phone...so better to keep flashing good custom roms and be unbricked ....stay away from stock froyo...its exactly 2.1 with stock froyo capabilities...

Hmm.. not sure which posts said that, but if you use this, it should take you back to a stock Eclair installation that will be good for returning to AT&T.
Maybe I'm missing something, though. Could you link to the things that said not to flash to stock?
Agreed confused. Went in one time to ATT and I had a custom ROM, he asked me to convert back to stock then bring it in.

No it won't. I did it half a dozen times on my phone.
Hmmm...I am having the same issue and just got my replacement today. Shipping was very fast. I am just going to Odin 1 click back to Eclair because that is what my phone had originally. When I called tech support they asked what was on the phone so I know I will be ok. Good luck with your return.
I just had to warranty my original Cappy because of a power button issue. It came stock with 2.1 Eclair and I never had any issues rooting/flashing/ or otherwise messing with it.
The "new" one I have has 2.2 Stock on it, is there anything different about what I need to do? Will ODIN 1-click bring it back to 2.1 without much hassle?
I looked for over an hour and couldn't find any specific answer.

I cant verify this but i did have trouble as well re-rooting it after i did the kies update so i just flashed JF6 with odin one click and then re rooted it and its been fine every since. Im not sure what att did but this KB1 through kies sure made it hard to re root when i did the update and i wasnt impressed by it either(go figure). I hope that helps. I do know that odin one click to JF6 will just about fix everything or if your having trouble rooting with the 2.2 KB1

Yes everyone it does belong in QA and I am sure it will get moved.
To answer your question about 2.1, becareful and have a read through this thread in relation to my experiences with an 1104 build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1105776&highlight=1104 downgrading with JF6 was bad juju
---My opinion follows as this is what worked for me -----
I would just flash to 2.3.3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127249
Or just the stock AT&T boot loaders from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129821
Then go about loading your desired kernel/rom combinations
I got a replacement Captivate from AT&T and I just noticed it has a Froyo baseband version of I897UCKB2 loaded. Googled and searched XDA for any references to this version. It is also weird that the label under battery was replaced as well. Looks like a homemade label printed on white. Supposedly build 1010. Anyone received anything like this?
Yes, there was a thread about this a few weeks ago. Nobody knows what's the difference between KB1 and KB2. As for the sticker, I think that's normal for refurbs.
With KF1 Gingerbread already leaked out, who cares about KB2 Froyo.
You right. Time to move forward. Thanks for the info. I'm ready for a tasty ice cream treat.

Looks like the same old 3G speeds. No HSUPA or unlocked sideloading. GPS is an improvement from my previous replacement. Locking indoors sometimes and accuracy holding mostly at 15 feet when moving. Previous model was only never got better than 30 feet and stayed at 90 mostly. GPS was redirecting all the time as it thought I was on adjacent streets. About to go to Gingerbread.

Edit: i see the links in the original thread for Superoneclick. Ill post back with my results.
I used Superoneclick to root the kb2 and enable sideloading. I assume this rom is just "bug fixes" and of course the signed boot loader. Flashed gingerbread following Cog 5 beta 3 tread. Of course once I got all apps loaded DG posted Cog 5 v1.

Hey There ...
I received my replacement with KB1 and its an 1101 (date code) and not able to go to "Stock JF6" so my stock is KB1 ! NP there tho.
Just received my wife's replacement with KB2 ... 1010 (date code) not sure if it can do JF6 ! Im assuming not. Not gonna chance it anyway. I already messed up a 1101 trying to go to JF6. Lost 3 button recovery, download mode ... blah, blah !
So Im not going to try it. Her 1010 is working fantastic right out of the box. GPS, everything.
Now for the question
Im not finding a stock KB2 ROM (odin or other)
Does anyone know and/or have tried to go stock KB1 from KB2 ?
Any issues I should be aware of ?
Thanks Guys !
I do believe that the KB2 build is a pathetic attempt to slow people down with modding.

Thats what I am thinking as well !
What Im wondering now ... as I do not have much experience with ROM Manager ! Can I do a Rom backup, do whatever (load custom ROM's) then if needed load the Backed up ROM ? I know I would have to root ... But cant you un-root then do a factory reset after uninstalling ROM Manager, super user, etc ... ?
Just wondering
I can't exactly remember if my last replacement had KB2 or KB1. I'm almost positive it was KB1, though. It didn't have 3 button combos.
Anyway, I used a Jig to get to Download mode, flashed JF6, and went back to modding as usual.
Maybe the Download Mode Jig is the key so you can flash with ODIN or Heimdall from download mode.

I have no issue with the button combos (DL mode or recovery) ... I also have a jig. The problem is with (I believe) models 1010 and higher, have issues with JF6. So FJ6 is not an option. Which is not a deal. I can get to stock KB1 no problems !
The question is ... Since there does not seem to be a "stock" KB2 Rom. Can I make a backup with ROM Manager of the KB2 ... then (if needed) revert back later ?
As stated before ... ATT knows that the phone was shipped with KB2 ... and sending it back (if need) with KB1 may not fly !
There does not appear to be an update or ROM that I have seen.
Similar to the JH7 update ...

Flashing back the backup from CWM recovery (started from ROM manager, perhaps) will put you back to KB2. The only problem is that the modem (baseband) will not revert back to KB2. That will have to be flashed separately (after extracting and inserting your current KB2 modem). This is how you would backup your current KB2 modem (type this at the shell prompt; assuming you haven't changed ROMs already!):
dd if=/dev/block/bml12 of=/sdcard/modem.bin bs=4096
Insert the above modem.bin into any working CWM zip modem file and flash.
You might also want to backup your kernel using the SGS kernel flasher.

This happened on one of my old cappies that i got replaced. It was a 1008 build. It's an error in the efs folder. Did you make a backup of your efs folder before you started flashing?
If you didn't here's a method that worked for me that might get you back to normal. What i did was use Kies mini to upgrade to stock 2.2 then make sure the botton combos were working (vol up+dwn/plug usb to get to download mode, and vol up+vol dwn + power to get to recovery.) If those are working, now flash back to stock using Odin 1 click.
This wokred for me. hope it helps.
If you have your original efs folder, use Root Explorer to place the original folder ni place of the current one while on stock 2.1, then reboot to see if it worked.
What Gingerbread Roms did you "play" around with, I'm guessing you used the I9000 bootloaders also?

It could just be how the phone acts with the jf6 modem as its a signal problem...

It could just be how the phone acts with the jf6 modem as its a signal problem...
And what exactly are you doing when trying to master clear and what happens?

Couple things for the Master Clear
1. Make sure to shut down Odin then restart it without the phone connected
2. If that doesn't work restart your PC
3. If all else fails, root, install ROM Manager, get into CWM and do a factory reset
Like Studacris said, Odin to JF6 flashes the proper bootloaders, so you dont need to worry there. I've done it TONS of times
Edit** Are you using this Odin?
http://www.mediafire.com/?0w2y31maz8mdom4 If not, I would HIGHLY recommend using it

Dam, bad correlation on my part. Didn't want anything going wrong with bootloaders, my self learned fault on being incoherent and half asleep, just didn't want any brick brick brickety brick bricks-as my dad laughs to me all the time. Thanks for the correction.

Ok, but that would be a good thing, you can just use the signal problem as an added reason for sending it in. If you can flash stock and it boots, all is well. Anything else just goes in your favor of why you deserve a new one.
Plus, if the phone stops working to the point it does not boot they will have no real way of telling what was running before, nor will they waste the time to find out. It will get tossed into the re-write pile, and go thru the paces for becoming a referb.
You do realize that the phone has to be regularly on to do a master clear and not be in download mode right?
