I broke my screen and I want to fix it, I don't have a contract but I have HTC warranty.
What is the best way to fix it and the cheaper?
I need a place around ocean township NJ, or in NY city USA.
Please advise.
Your warranty doesnt cover you for repairing physical damage to the phone.
There are several companies doing repairs on ebay...
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-HD2-BROKEN-CRACKED-GLASS-TOUCHSCREEN-REPAIR-SERVICE-/260731426230
is an example.
HOWEVER..... sending your phone to get a new screen WILL void your warranty unless you get HTC to do the repair for you. HTC price for doing your repair will probably be slightly higher than getting a different company to do it, but worth it in the end if it means you get to keep your warranty IMO.
Regards,
Andy
Thanks - I figured it out...
I will go to local store and fix it.
Does anyone can recomend on a good place in NJ ?

hi, i bought a new lcd for my tytn II, can you tell me how to change it? i can't open the case...
You will break warranty on phone doing it youreself, if you dont have that kinda insurance (hard to claim on theese issues) you should talk to nearest el. shop, but remeber they are prolly not HTC experts. Best thing is to goto provider and talk to them, otherwise check this how to pick youre device apart

Yeh it is dead expensive, I got an extra warranty on my device, costed me additional 250$ But if I drop the phone to the floor and it breaks I get a new one same day, and whit my handling... Its cheap. Just ie. changing a lcd cost 390$ over here, you prolly can get it cheaper somewhere though. But then again everything is expensive in Norway hehe, device itself new lays around 800-1000$ boxed, some even take more! so doing it youreself is a real moneysaver for sure.
Good luck, hope everything works out for you

Since AT&T discontinued the tilt what will they exchange my phone for?? will it be something with lesser value? or will it be the fuze? i heard that at&t starts offering warranty right before they discontinue the phone your purchasing.. do they do that so they can rip u off? has anyone here previously reported there phone missing? what did they exchange it for? any help would be great thanx!

well i doubt that they will replace it with a fuze yet. I mean they have to run out of tilts (including refurb's) before they replace it with another phone. Once that happens than they will offer you the next most competant phone to replace yours.. which will be the fuze eventually.
However depending on when you got your tilt you have a 1 year warranty on it so there is no way att can rip you of that. That warranty is effective from the day of purchase. Att, however, just started (about a month ago) offering insurance for the tilt; this was not available before.
When you report your phone as lost ... that isn't a device defect that is your mistake (in their eyes) for being careless. In order for you to get a replacement under these circumstances you need to have insurance otherwise you are SOL (sh*t out of luck). However, bear in mind the deductible for replacing a tilt is 150.00 dollars so this really doesn't do any good what so ever as alot of members here are selling their tilts for that price.
Hope this helps get rid of confusion ... than again it might not as we live on a planet that revolves around itself and around a star ... and agh that is confusing... am i floating .. walking .. damn which side is flat (no wait earth is round nothing is flat) .. than how come i don't fall ... aah thank you sir isaac newton for that info... confusion cleared
I read that they are just pulling it from AT$T stores, but that it will still be manufactured and available at AT&T online only.

no exchanges are done through customer service (99%) not at store level. They won't be able to help you out they'll give you 800 number for customer service and they will handle that for you.
Or........
You could use the "Search Button" and see that this is already well under discussion

Hey guys, have searched everywhere, both my boards are fried in my tilts... one my screen gets all weird colors after i wake it up from sleep... (fine after i reboot but once i sleep and come back on the color gets really funky) and the other the keyboard light is ON ALL the time, closed or open keyboard light is on all the time.... I have taken them both apart to no avail, im figuring the motherboards might have gotten a little fried while i was in the hottub and the steam got to them? Anyone know where to get them?
really?....
None knows where to get a motherboard or fix these problems?...
Did you ever find a source for a motherboard? I'm in need of one too...

I saw everything BUT motherboads. Did I miss something?
Thanks for the reply.
I'm in need of a board too because, of all things, my reset button broke. It appears that your best bet is to buy a broken screen phone or something similarly damaged but still functional.
anyone have any luck on this?
I just found this place on Google. But why pay $175 when you can get a Tilt on Ebay or Craigslist for that amount.

Nice find. But I agree, for the price, I would not pay that for just the Motherboard. I called them to see if they would sell the MB without labor, and they said no, they only offer parts with services. For less money, I will end up buying another Tilt on eBay and then have extra parts for future repairs.
I would try Craigslist first, you might find one close to you that you can see/hold before buying. Good luck.
Hey, I'm curious to know if anyone knows where to get replacement parts for the leo. I recently fell down a flight of stair and destroyed everything to do with my leo's outsides. The screen is trashed, and the case it bent. So, I need to replace it all. Any information would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks in advance.

When in doubt, contact HTC (And doubt some more)
It's been a few days since I first started this thread. Lots of views but no replies. So... I wrote HTC about it (on their website) and their response was quite unbelievably stupid.
I mentioned that I live in China, and that I'd like to know how I could have it repaired. I put in the serial number as well. They replied by telling me that my phone was sold in France and that I should go back to France to get it repaired, otherwise I can go to Hong Kong or Taiwan to get it repaired.
I am really curious what kind of person would write such a silly reply. As though plane tickets cost the same as cab rides, and the flight is only a hop and a skip away.
I've written them back and clarified the kind of help I am looking for (An address to send my phone to, and a quote for parts and labour) here's hoping they don't misinterpret it again and send me more bs.
Not much point to my writing this other than to say, if you need to contact HTC with a similar query, assume you're writing to an idiot and be as absolutely clear as you can. You may even want to suggest to them what is common sense, and not assume that they're going to think of the most reasonable method themselves.

Hi,
Sorry to hear of your accident.
If your phone is that badly damaged why don't you just claim off your phone or house insurance and get a new one? Sounds like this is much less hassle than trying to get it repaired.
I am assuming you have some form of insurance for the phone?

Or send it to HTC repair. I heard it will cost like €150 to repair.
Have a nearly same question.
My HD2 screen one day have a big black dot at the center. I give my HD2 to the local HTC service, they answer me that, they cannot give me a warranty because it's broken by pressing from outside into a screen.
So, if replace a screen will cost about 230USD.
I take my HD2, come home, search on eBay for the screen replacement. It cost only 80USD. Maybe it's a solution for you too.
Hi,
where did you get the replacement screen for $80?
Thanks.

that is just touchscreen+bracket, not entire LCD. Though you get a free screwdriver with it

I've had the same problem too a couple of times. Fortunately both times the dot disappeared after pressing the screen gently in various places. What's disturbing, though, is that I've had the phone for a week only and gone to great lengths to ensure it has not been under any physical pressure (or psychological, for that matter ). Have anyone else noticed this; is this a weakness with the phone or have I just been unlucky?
u should take it to htc service !
I've just dropped mine and accidentally closed a door on it, so now mine is full of scratches too.
I'll take it back to the service center in Taiwan when I get back there, though rather annoyingly that won't be until March at the earliest If the HK service center can do it though, I can drop it in there in Feb ... I wonder if their pricing will be the same ...
Hey guys I dropped my HD2 too and the screen cracked. I noticed that there are repair kits at around 80 USD. Anyone has any video or tutorial on how to replace the screen with the repair kit? Or has anyone self-repaired the screen successfully?
I'll have the chance to either get a new HD2 (and sell the broken one), the Hero or perhaps the Nexus One so I want to see if it is possible to do a cheap fix and get a new toy.
During an eventful week in Ibiza I woke up with a cracked non functioning screen SONY UK want me to send it to SBE LTD as the official service centre but I have heard many negative stories about them and it is highly unlikely they would replace it under warranty anyway I have had a recommendation to use :
http://www.buzz-box.co.uk/
Or is this an easy fix myself if so where do I get an official screen / digitizer from ? How do you successfully reseal the case as I know it is sealed with some sort of adhesive ?

Cracked just like the pics in the thread and it was in my pocket at the time no large knocks of from being dropped .............. meh .
Anyone successfully repaired it themselves or able to recommend a UK repair centre ?
Repair of mine costs 302EUR at local Sony service. There was changed the screen, the frame with sidings and buttons and the battery too (dunno why was it changed). Also had unglued the backplate, we fixed it.
I work as a mobile phone & PC tech in the UK & have to deal with SBE on a regular basis, There not as bad as people make out, Just have to remember that they will only do any work as long as the phone has not been tampered with or had physical/water damage.
If it's a cracked screen my guess is they will tell you to do one or charge you a lot for the job..

I am not looking for it to be done under warranty I am more concerned about them being competent at doing it which I have heard enough bad experiences to put me off plus as you say you deal with them regularly and state they will either tell me to do one or charge me a lot for any work done this does not instill me with any confidence being that I have been quoted £150 quid elsewhere or I can attempt it myself for the cost of parts at £100 .
Has anyone done the procedure themselves ?
Is there a guide and not the you tube disassembly one on you tube as that is not comprehensive enough ?
Any recommendations how to reseal the back plate once done ?

On any other phone I would say try it yourself but if you ever intended on using the water resistant feature of this phone I would suggest paying the extra & getting SBE to do it, that way you are still covered with Sony & and the job will definitely be done correctly
