Hi
Just wondering if anyone here is planning on unrooting with this app to get the OTA gingerbread stock updates when available then rooting again? I used SuperOneClick btw.
Will this work method work or is it best to backup the phone then do a factory wipe, apply the OTA update then re-root and restore settings/apps? Wiping does seem a little excessive.
Loving my new phone

Hi,
Id also like to know the answer to this - so bump.
Can superoneclick be used to unroot - if not what is the easiest way to do so. Or is the only option to factory reset the phone?
Many thanks
I rooted my phone and upgraded from V10d to V10e. I loosed the root after the upgrade, but applications I freezed remained so
While I didn't tried it, SuperOneClick has the functionality of unrooting your phone.
SuperOneClick can unroot, but it's easy to DIY, just remove /system/app/Superuser.apk and /system/bin/su

Hi
I am currently running stock unrooted, locked N1 with Froyo FRF91 (AT&T). After having numerous problems (screen calibration being the most frustrating one), I did a factory reset and re-installed and reconfigured my apps, restored my home screen, etc all manually, as if a brand new user and device. THIS WAS TIME CONSUMING!
I am looking for an app that will effectively take an image of my N1 (similar to Norton Ghost for the PC) that will restore OS, APPS, and Data. I believe I will need to be rooted to use such an app, and am looking for any recommendations for this type of backup (Titanium Backup OR ?). I DO NOT WANT TO UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER!
I also would like to upgrade to FRG83 and have been clicking "Install Later" to the nag screen, because after reading many issues with the FRG83 build, I would like a way to "ROLL BACK" to FRF91 if I have problems (like not being able to connect to Exchange).
So, I am seeking advice and comment on the following steps I think I should take to achieve the above mentioned "Roll Back", IMAGE BACKUP goal.
Here are my thoughts, in order of what I should do.
1) Since I am on FRF91, use Universal androot to root my device. Does this install all I require? ie. Busybox, su.
2) After rooting, install Titanium Backup or similar backup app (Recommendations welcomed), to take an image of the device, for roll back if needed. Do I need any other software (AMON RA, etc) or will Titanium Backup be all I need?
3) Install the FRG83 update (either OTA or from download). WILL THIS INSTALL TO A ROOTED device? I know I will lose root, but does it install OK?
4) Use rageagainstthecage to re-root.
Am I missing any steps? Any thoughts? Are these the steps you would take if you had an unrooted, locked FRF91 device and wanted to root it?
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

That would work ... though I would simply do the OTA and then root & run Titanium Backup.
Thanks Nexusdue
Although, if I apply the OTA first, want I lose the ability to "roll back" to FRF91 if I want to?
Since you can root FRG83, you should always be able to flash any ROM.
I think you can also roll back to an official ROM "unrooted" but I haven't tried it, so I don't know.
Did anyone else lose root?
Is there a fix in the works?
Yes I lost root as well.
I have a Droid 1 and I don't know why I installed the OTA update, but now my root access is gone and z4root will not get it back.
I found out there is a fix though, we just have to go through the whole manual root process again:
Unfortunately I cannot post links here, so PM me if you want the how-to on fixing this.
You should be still able to use the RSDLite method. That one is permanent..i don't think the OTA would even wipe it out. Who knows though, i'm on UD2.3

Not true, I rooted via RSD Lite and it wiped mine out
How to remove updater file
My rooted Droid with 2.2 just downloaded the recent update also, but I have not allowed it to install yet. Is there a way to delete the update so it will not install and lose root? I used z4root to root the phone (worked great...very easy). I see from other posts that after the update z4root will not be allowed to re-root. Is this correct?
Thanks

If you have the option to not update, DONT UPDATE IF YOU ARE ROOTED until there is a root fix. Myself and a lot of people have buggy phones now that root has been disabled. We're all waiting for a solution. One Click Root didn't work for my Droid.

Yes and no.
No, being z4root will not work after the 2.2.1 update.
Yes being you can be rooted once again after 2.2.1
I just re-rooted (manually) and it's working great now with 2.2.1
I've had a couple people PM me about it.
Follow this guide to the "T", don't skip ahead, read everything:

It is super fast and takes maybe 10 minutes tops.
Far from the 3 hrs or so it took me the first time I ever rooted (last June).
I was able to use SuperOneClick to re-root my phone in 2.2.1

Yep lost mine too and working to get it back, thats why I am here. z4 was the first time i rooted my phone and it made it so easy!
I actually got my replacement device this weekend and it was on 2.2.1 but last night I tried SuperOneClick the latest version and it worked fine. Also my sprecovery was still showing stock so I used my ROM Manager from the Market to flash to clockwork mod then back to SPrecovery and also was able to make a backup of my stock 2.2.1 with nandroid. Hope this helps.
A friend rooted his 2.2 installation to install some additional apps which requires root, e.g. a firewall. He now wants to upgrade to 2.3.3, and still keep his apps/settings/messages without a manual backup.
Will it work to just flash the OTA zips found here? We're aware that he will loose root.
Is it possible to downgrade my HTC Hero CDMA from 2.31 to 2.27? I had to RUU back to sense when I did an ESN swap and I was unaware of the root block patch so I just did 2.31. Now I can't root it for the life of me. I have tried using this method:
[ROOT] Easy Root, works with any Stock ROM (Including 2.31.651.7!) - xda-developers
I have tried using AndRoot, Super Oneclick and another ADB push method.
I have also tried rooting with z4root. Temp root works fine until I reset, If I try to perma root with Z4 root it gets to the "Rebooting...." phase and doesnt ever leave from that page. I have rooted plenty of phones as well as this one before but never had this much hassle. Am I missing something?
I even went as far as to reflash the 2.31 RUU just to set everything BACK from all the root attempts, then open Z4 root and no bueno.
In order to downgrade I've tried the "Goldcard" method as well as running older RUU.exe files. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? I've already went through faq's and searched all over, nobody ever has a response besides "try z4 root mine worked", obviously theres still issues.
how do you go about downgrading from 2.31 to 2.27? I have tried z4 root, androot, superoneclick, ive tried pushing the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin files through the cmd prompt, ive only been able to temp root with z4 with success, anytime i try to load the bootloader it always says S-On, anytime i try to perma root with Z4 it gets stuck in the "Rebooting...." part and never ends up fully rooting itself.

When using z4root you have to pull the battery and manually reboot once it gets to rebooting text. Once rebooted you will be rooted

Both never fail me....

My wife just got a DROID 3 yesterday. I promptly used Pete's Motorola Root Tools to root the device, then used Titanium Backup to freeze a bunch of the bloatware that came on it. Today, she installed an OTA update and lost root. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to get root back. I tried re-running Pete's Motorola Root Tools, but adb shows the device as offline, so it isn't working. Anyone know how to get root back? Thanks!
Edit: I forgot to mention that after I rooted the phone, I installed the DROID 3 bootstrapper and recovery. I took a full backup before I used TB to freeze the bloat. Don't know if recovering this backup is the way to go...
You wont get root for this version till it's been found, the root process has been fixed by Moto.
Just RSD back to 5.6.890:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339816
Then follow the below link, install rootkeeper to keep root from previous version then update with Hashcodes OTA file pull:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334704
-smc
Thanks for the info. The phone shows that its currently at 5.6.890. Is this because the OTA update wasn't completely successful?

I think you probably updated to 5.6.890 not the leaked OTA. Maybe check to see USB debugging is still on and run the 1 click again. FYI the leaked update 5.7 is not rootable at this point but 5.6 is.
Thanks alot guys!! I was able to get her phone re-rooted and everything looks good.
Since getting a D3 I've picked up a few more techniques and strategies for easily keeping my root and customizing my device. I've found that Root Keeper will ensure you keep your root even after installing a custom ROM

Although most custom ROMs have root/superuser built into them...
