[Q] SOS please!!!! Overcome1.4.4 Installation Failed - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone please i need help!!!!!
so here is the scenario...
i flashed my asian galaxy tab to overcome1.4.4
i followed the pdf version of its install instruction...
i flashed over to JME-stock-safe via odin... ok PASSED!!!
then i flashed the kernel... ok PASSED
then upon installing the Overcome ROM 1.4.4 it stucked up to Installing new system in the CWM...
So i started back to the first step to redo the process
still no luck...
i tried it so many times still no luck...
what should i do now...
please help me out guys....

You say you flashed the overcome Kernel, did you get the sexy robot voice during the EXT4 conversion? What error are you getting IN CWM when it fails?
Sounds to me like you didn't let the system do it's conversion before you tried to flash the new ROM.
My advice would be to reflash the kernel, and let it boot after you have done so. Reboot into recovery and flash the ROM.

@btyork
yes i did hear the sexy robot converting and it even reboots at its own
then i followed the steps in installing the overcome room...
i even get to the point where it says " Installing New system"
then i've waited for it to finish..
but... i've been waiting for about an hour... so then i decided to redo the process to the top ( reinstalling again the JME-stock-safe) .... OK PASSED again
I did install the overcome kernel.... OK PASSED again
heard the sexy robot converting....
but now it didn't boot on its own...
i've been waiting again for about an hour then nothing happens...
its stocked up to " GALAXY TAB" screen
i didn't run the bootloader patch in the first placed though...
is it something connected to a signed bootloader???
what else can i do????

It may indeed be the bootloader, although I doubt it if you got the kernel installed....
Did you repartition with the hidden.pit file when you went back stock?

hey buddy we can help u fix ur problem but u hav to ask it on the thread u got the rom from.... mods close this thread please

Try recovery mode, then wipe all the data and reboot.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App

If you are still able to enter recovery mode and you were wise enough to create a nandroid backup before you flashed overcome you could just use the recovery to get back to your phones state just before you flashed overcome. Sounds maybe asif your zip file may have been downloaded wrong or something ... that's why its also always a good idea to check the md5 of the Rom before you flash it ...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

you probably tried this but just checking, did you try powering off, for some reason after the install mine just hung...it took 2 or 3 poweroffs to get it to start booting...been fine ever since.

[Q] I've bricked my phone- HELP! :C

okay so I thought bricking android would be complicated but as it turns out it's quite simple.
Please cut me some slack because I am a n00b at all this. I am already googling for a solution and looking on forums but I haven't found anything YET so after a desperate hour of googling I thought of posting here (I will keep on trying to find a solution though).
Here is what I did:
A long while ago I rooted my Galaxy S. Rom was ClockworkMod (recovery says ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.5) and the kernel was Talon. No problem with this.
Now I wanted to do a factory reset so I dialed that number yo need for a factory reset. I got a red text message warning me NOT to touch any button and it would reboot. The phone rebooted and I think I got into the recovery mode.
The icon was a top cat in an orange circle with an arrow. I guess that's part of the Talon kernel.
Anyways on recovery mode screen I saw an option called "wipe/factory reset" I've selected it - I was told it can't be undone- I've said OK- It said everything went fine so I selected reboot.
Now the phone won't reboot. It is stuck in a loop. It will always try to reboot.
So all I see is a GALAXY S i9000 screen followed by a Talos screen with a loading bar followed by the GALAXY S i9000 screen again and it will just loop.
No idea what to do :C
help, please! thanks a million everyone!
Try flash the talon kernel again or if u got a rom on your SD card flash that.
If this doesn't work.search for ezbase 3.0 and follow instructions on how to flash a rom with ODIN.
U can also find ezbase on "insanity rom" thread in the op(1 of the links)
And now your phone is recovered

well I've tried to put an update.zip on the internal storage of the phone because I don't have an external SD card.
I mounted the phone as mass storage device in the recovery mode but my win xp 32 bit would say it is a Samsung Galaxy S but there was an error with the new hard ware and it couldn't be mounted fff
so no idea what to do now?
This is normal, you delated youre whole System. First of all dont panik you able to enter ist downloadmode ? If so, than you'll bei able to install a new rom and you will be able to boot I'm also New here had the same problem with my phone. This is called a soft-brick. yeh i guess i did a soft brick. So what exactly do I do now?
I have managed to copy an update.zip file I've found on my computer to the phone but the download mode gives me an error and says it can't install it.
Can you link me to the files I need to install on it with the help of the download mode? Thanks a lot
so I have already tried installing different roms which seemed to have worked fine
I have tried just any random rom (Simplicity) I could find on this forum. It installed but I am still stuck in a boot loop. I don't see the Talon graphic anymore but the Galaxy S animation but I am still stuck in a loop.

You need to flash a new firmware using odin, partition with 512 pit. Check this link for instructions and firmware. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14273101

Experiencing Boot Loop... Need some assistance

Intro
Hi guys, I just got my Galaxy Ace from my mom a month ago(She used it for a couple of months but was too "complex" for her that's why she just gave it to me). Anyway, I'm the type of person who wants to explore and unlock the full potential of things. The first thing I did when I received the phone was research about stuff like how to modify it, etc. I was able to successfully root(there's a "super user" icon in the menu) it. Today, I thought it'd be nice to add some metro ui theme on it. So I I downloaded 7 launcher from the play store. But, was not satisfied because it felt like it was only a "skin" and didn't changed the overall feeling of the phone. That's the time I started digging dipper into the realm of Android and came across this thing called "ROM"....
I followed an online guide on how to install roms. First, i downloaded the rom i wanted(it's called "WP7") and placed it at the root of my sd card. Just like what the tutorial suggested(in case something goes wrong), I made a "nandroid" with the use of Clock Work Mod. I then saved a copy of the nandroid into my computer just to be EXTRA safe. Everything seems to be in order so I proceeded with the operation. I accessed the recovery menu, and selected "wipe cache partition" and "wipe data/factory reset". After that, I went to "install zip from sd card" and selected the zip file. Everything went well. After the update, I rebooted the phone and it was successful.
The Problem
I checked the whole new ui design and it was what I expected it to be. But then, I immediately missed the old ui, so i decided to go back to the stock os/kernel/(whatever you guys call it ). I went to the recovery menu and selected "backup and restore". I chose the nandroid I just made through CWM. After loading, I rebooted my phone and bam... this is where my problem is. The Phone's name and model number appears in the screen but it's not loading. I waited for 2 minutes and nothing happened. So I restarted the phone by holding the power button and volume up. I accessed the recovery menu again and examined if I missed a step. After browsing the net, I concluded that I didn't wipe the cache and data before restoring . So I wiped both cache partition and data. I selected the nandroid and then rebooted the phone again. But, the boot loop is still there . I tried it again and again. Wiping, Restoring Rebooting. But the boot loop won't go away.
So I wiped it again but this time, I didn't select the nandroid and instead I went back to the new WP7 rom i just downloaded. My phone didn't do a boot loop and my phone is okay now. I'm stuck with my new rom for about an hour now. I'm starting to get used to it. Anyway, even though things are stable now and i'm on my new rom, I think it's still nice to go back to the phone's original kernel/os . Any ideas on how I can restore back my phone to the original/stock kernel/os without experiencing the boot loop? Or can you give me the causes why I'm experiencing the boot loop? My guess is, I think there's a problem with the nandroid I used. The wp7 rom doesn't experience any boot loop but when it comes to my nandroid, there's a boot loop.
Thanks in advance and sorry if it's too long to read. I just wanted it to be accurate and clear for you guys .
The only way would be flashing through Odin.

Search for your previous ROM around and flash it.
Here's a good TUTORIAL on how to flash ROMs
The only way to flash a stock rom is odin (its a pc program) .
after you flash back to stock, you should Be able to restore your nandroid backup without getting the bootloop
(at least, i'm pretty sure, can someone confirm this?)
Im sure ull find a guide on how to use odin somewhere on xda.

All of the bloatware that came with the stock os isn't present this rom. I don't think i'll be returning to the original stock os. So yeah, I appreciate all your help and cheers to everyone

I know you're happy with your current ROM but just an FYI, I went through a similar process trying to unlock a T-Mo Samsung Dart T499 (similar to Mini/Galaxy Ace). I just flashed stock ROM via ODIN and it boot looped on me. After reading this post I went into stock recovery and clear cache partition and factory reset and voila!
So this post actually inspired me a bit! Haha! Thanks!
as already said, the batter way to solve that problem is clean up your device is flash a stock rom with Odin,
but then, you will need remake root, and install a CWM....
good Luck !!

[SOLVED][Q][i9000] BootLoop problem after installing CWM

EDIT: Problem solved!
Hi all,
I just tried to install CWM Recovery on a Samsung Galaxy GT-I9000, and it didn't work.
The phone was (originally) running under Android Froyo (2.2), and unrooted. First of all, I used UnlockRoot to root it, and it worked fine. I checked the root access right after using dedicated apps (rootChecker, sdMaid, etc), to confirm.
Then I wanted to install a ClockWorkMod recovery. I followed this guide (on the CyanogenMod wiki). I downloaded and installed Kies to have the USB drivers installed. Then I downloaded Heimdall (my computer is running under Windows 7) + hardcore CMW Kernel. I booted into download mode, then installed the driver. (Step 2 on the tutorial). Then next step was flashing the kernel. It suceeded, and the phone powered off. Turning it on, it just starts to make endless boot loops. The system won't start running, and it is not possible to access to the CWM recovery menu. But the download mode is still available.
So, does anyone have pointers to help me fix this issue ? i would like to have CMW installed, and then install a custom ROM (the latest Jelly Bean based Cyanogenmod release).
Thanks in advance.
Just try again installing stock Rom with odin
See my post Here

Hi Donovan,
Thanks for the swift answer. And yes, it definitely worked. I downloaded this stock rom, and I flashed it successfully with Odin v3 1.85. I am running now under Android 2.3.6, but I lost the root access. Rooting it won't be a problem, hopefully. I still have access to the download mode, and to the stock recovery. I'll try once again to dive into the ClockWorkMod Recovery, and then install a Jelly Bean rom.
I'm hitting the thanks button right after posting this.
Thanks back at ya. Cf root you can find here

Dont forget the wiping before flashing jb.
Most times u have 2 flash custom twice.
If first time hangs just pull battery out, get in recovery & flash second time or third if its needed.
If it says install completed then its done
Much pleasure flashing the i9000
Actually, I spoke to fast, the problem just got much worse.
Okay, just after flashing the stock rom (2.3.6), everything was fine. Then I downloaded the latest stable CM10 (direct link).
I booted into recovery mode (CWM Recovery, actually) and I did try to install (i din't not forget wiping data/cache, dalvik and batt stats), but it failed, saying the package was incorrect. I tried many times, copying again and again the zip file, same problem.
Then I downloaded a previous version, CM9. I tried to installed it, and i run into a very weird error, saying an assertion failed when trying to install the package.
Something like;
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "galaxys" || getprop ("ro.build.product") == "galaxys" ... getprop ("ro.build.device") = GT-I9000 etc...
Click to collapse
And then installation program aborts (error code 7.)
My assumption, is that it looks like my phone is no longer being considered by a samsung gt i9000, according to the installer. Weird, though...
Now, I still have access to the recovery. But the phone can't boot, as everything was wiped. Much worse, I can switch to download mode, but i can't flash back the stock rom, Odin can't detect the phone (I tried with Odin v3 1.82, 1.83 and 1.87).
I'm getting desperate, any pointers ?
Thanks in advance!
Did u try to flash the custom more then 1 time?
Oh yes, I did it like a dozen of times. And I still get the same error.

gti9000 rooting
Hi Donovan, could you help me please:fingers-crossed:
I've purchased a unlocked galaxy s gti9000 and I want to root it. Something I've never done on any phone as I'm a complete noob. I managed to install XWJW1 FIRMWARE. I've now got as follows PDA:I9000XWJW6
PHONE: I9000XWJW1
CSC: I9000XSAJV8.
All the links to the file for rooting seem to be dead. I've found some for rooting XXJVU, But that's not right is it? I would really like to try ICS or Jelly Bean. I must admit I'm nervous about this as it's taken me a while to get a phone as good as this one!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
@Nooga:There is a very complete and straightforward guide here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852546). You might want to take a look at it.

Thanks Roland will give it a try tonight.
Well, that is now solved. I tried something silly that ended up working fine.
As the cm9-smtd update package couldn't run (because of the assertion fail), I just opened the zip package, then edited the file META-INF/com/android/google/updater-script.
I basically removed the assert statement at the top of the file.
CMW recovery installed it properly, without any err. I now have an ICS based rom (Cyanogen Mod 9).
Problem definitely solved now. Going to make a Nandroid backup.
Thanks all, again.

Hello dear friends!
I have following issue with the phone>
1. Phone had froyo installed on it.
2. i tried to copy a custom rom to sd, and then, i just tried to flash it directly via stock recovery. (completly noobish, i realize now...)
3. apparently by the status from the stock recovery it succeeded. BUUUT actually not...
so>
4. i got stuck into the samsung boot logo...
so>
5. i tried to flash cwm recovery through this steps provided by this tutorial.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342190
6. I now got a black screen instead of any recovery. tried it also with the froyo version of the recovery (designed apparently specially for froyo devices) and also with the gingerbread one. still no joy....
now, i am really lost and have no further ideas.... please help me at least get this back to stock again (it is the phone from work and i will have a hard time explaining them that i bricked it.... )...
please advise what should i try further??
THANKS!!!!!
PS> pls take into account that i am kind of a noob regarding this device... did a lot of things on my hox, but i do not know to much about this s5570....

flashed cwm recovery - works with the steps from my first post now
flashing a custom rom from a zip on the sd card does not work afterwards!!!!!!! - it soft bricks phone again and i have to redo the 2 steps above.... why???
what am i doing wrong???
you didn't wipe data and cache before and after flashing process, right
now u have cwm recovery just boot into recovery and flash another rom... but before u flash rom make sure u clear cache and data from recovery menu then flash rom.
Guilty as charged!!
Trying it now and updating afterwards!

if your flashing gingerbread over froyo without wiping cache and data then that's why your getting soft brick.
I flashed jb from odin, so no cache deletion needed...
But yes, for custom rom install delete cache data all except sd before!!

Note 1 Stuck At Samsung Logo Screen!

Hi Peeps, Happy New Years
Don't Worry I read every thread on XDA and no one has a problem as similar as mines and don't know EXACTLY what type of brick I have.
I got this problem with my Galaxy Note (N7000):crying:
It all started when I was running Ultimate Rom v6 and decided to upgrade to kitkat.
I searched around and found that Spirit Rom had quite positive reviews.
So I downloaded the rom and tried to flash but then ended up with status 7 error.
I then found out I was using an outdated version of CWM (I think it was 6.0.3.7)
I then flashed this file by zedomax (http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyNote/recovery/n7000-CWM-KitKatCompatible.zip)
because it had compatible recovery with Kitkat roms and CM 10.2 kernal. Installation went fine and I set up everything.
I then installed lollipop theme (It came with boot animation). Then I rebooted to see how the boot animation looked but to my despair I got stuck at Samsung Boot Logo Screen and couldn't get past it. I couldn't get into recovery, only downloading mode. So then I flashed stock JB rom with PC (Odin). The flashing was successful but I'm still stuck at Logo screen.
Also I would like to also mention that the phone was NEVER on ICS. It was on stock GB 2.3.6, then rooted and flashed Ultimate Rom V6.
Any help would be appreciated :highfive::victory:

If the last thing you did was flash 4.1.2 via PC Odin then flash the correaponsing philz kernel in PC Odin, boot to recovery, and do a factory reset. If you don't want stock TW, then do the above, and then follow the guide on how to flash a KitKat ROM. I feel your error may involve not doing proper wipes, including preload.

Thanks Dude , You helped think of of something
BTW I fixed it
Maybe my recovery was corrupted or something...... So I was browsing around sticky threads an somehow reasoned it out to flash a prerooted + cwm rom through odin.
This is what I did:
1. Download this http://d-h.st/HJM
2. Flash with PC Odin (Add via PDA button and make sure ONLY Auto reboot is checked)
3. Wait till completed
4. When completed you will still get stuck then....
5. Boot into recovery (Which will now be CWM)
6. Do a factory reset and wipe cache and dalvik cache
7. Reboot
8. Give the logo screen a minute or two
9. Then I get directly to welcome screen.
10. Done
One more thing is do you know what was the cause of this? It's really interesting to know...........
Yeah improper wipes or flashing the wrong kernel for the wrong rom
