I'm going to have to agree, you need to take a chill pill man.
I'm all about showing people the right way of doing things and correcting mistakes, but there's a decent way of going about it, and a totally uncalled for way... You seem to choose the latter more often than not.
You aren't the forum mod here, if you want to be, apply to be... Otherwise, calm down a second and remember that we where ALL green at one point, and no one is born knowing what you think you know.

I second that. Also there is the effective way of doing things. I simply dont respond to those who post in wrong section and report to mod for move or deletion. Lashing out only grows a hostile enviroment and achieves nothing. Also and i know that from mod/admin experience pisses mods off to do massive bans to all
I third (don't moan at me for the comment at the bottom of my first post)

Make that 8.
You can state that its in the wrong section and also point them in the right direction you know? You can be helpful and advise people where to post simultaniously!
Just remember, everyone was a n00b when they first came to xda. At some point, someone has felt the same as you do towards, well, everyone. How did that make you feel? Stupid?

It's unbelievable. If everybody did this it would be impossible to find the actual posts. They don't even read, they just jump for that shiny New Thread button. We should have a requirement that you must be logged in for at least 2hours before being allowed to start a thread
It's unbelievable or maybe I'm not the norm... I actually read the sticked even before I got my SGS making sure I understand the process of rooting.

I just bought my Samsung Captivate about 3 weeks ago and my friend updated it to froyo 2.2. Loved it nothing wrong with it untill last night. I pressed the unlock button on the side and when i went to slide it to unlock it it would not work. I took the battery out and tried again and it did nothing. I looked it up and i think my best bet is too download odin3 and restore it to stock. I absolutely no nothing about phones. Please help me! I need my phone to help tune my truck.
Thanks, Abel
This goes in the Q & A section, not android development. And to answer your question thoroughly more information is needed about what your running.
Oh Boy where does one begin.........
Sorry. I am new to this. But as far as i know it is a samsung captivate. lol. But now all it does is go to the "AT&T screen and it says world phone" and does nothing else.

If its just stuck in a boot loop then you def need to flash back to stock. Check out this thread for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
Bad thing is i have mac ( and its pissing me off becaus i cant use it. I am going to have to wait for tonight i guess.
Wait, you use a Mac, you know nothing about phones, and you let someone else update your phone to a totally unsupported operating system? I'm not sure if you realize this, but in doing that, you just let your friend void your warranty.
Friend, here is how forums work: you spend 99% of your time reading and if you don't understand something then you ask. As silverslotcar so kindly pointed out, you should start by reading this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 and all of the other stickies in this Captivate Android Development forum. THEN you let your friend mod your phone so at least you have some idea of what is going on.
Good luck reading the forums!
I'll help........find a new friend!

If you're only wanting to go to Android 2.2 (Froyo), your only option in that thread is AdamOutler's UCKB2 Froyo 2.2 Heimdall One-click.
(By the way, if you're wanting to learn what these terms mean, look at the XDA and Android Terms and Acronyms post in my signature. It should help to give you an idea of what all this stuff means.)

two things:
1) there isn't a CWM available for GB yet
2) do you *really* think development was the place to post this? as it is a question and we have a section labeled "questions and answers"
Wasnt sure as there isn't a q&a for gb, but was directly rom related. I have no problem with mods moving. I actually wish they would help decide this for future posters.

i think its totally funny seeing smartass replies from supposed "senior" members. there no reason for it at all. i'm pretty sure some people just have really, really low self esteem and not many friends. Mommy doesn't count either. if you ever need any advice man just pm me and you won't have to deal with the bs. XDA is all about helping. thats exactly the point of it. good luck.
I appreciate that. I may end up doing that before I finally up on a GB rom.
I'm not upset about ^^. I understand his pov. I just ask he understands mine. It's kind of a grey area until a Q&A sticky is made for GB, or we start having roms appear in dev. However he did answer my question, to which I expressed my thanks, as I do to you.

no i didnt have any backup.what do u mean by getting another rom?im stuck with the blank screen and can't do nothing now.
Try shuttig it off, charging the battery, put in download mode (even if you only see a black screen some people have reported they can flash) and install your stock or another rom. If this doesn't work, you're screwed...
If you didn't check and see if you had locked bootloaders then this may have caused the fail in ODIN...

There is plenty of help if you look for it. People tend to get sick of repeating themselves so its best to read the topics that have already been created on this exact issue.
Using search function and searching topic titles for "bricked" will give you plenty of help.

On another forum, I find many times that when someone asks a question I don't know the answer to, a Google search brings up a good answer as the very first hit. And it takes longer to post a question than it does to do a Google lookup.
It's not laziness, it's lack of knowledge. The majority of the public is totally clueless when it comes to computers, even to using them for everyday tasks - like googling something. Laziness is a post titled GPS, with the body saying "doesn't work". Then they get angry because we tell them we need more information. (Many people have responded along the lines of "how do you keep this job when you don't know anything?" Job? When can I expect my first pay check?)

Yeah it does seem like that.
As for lazy, there are multiple forms. They must know Google or they wouldn't be At this site unless someone directed them here then if that was the case that person probably could have just helped. But for myself I tend to look up and see what's going on at least daily if not more frequent. And if I don't google/search I'll at least scroll through the first couple of pages at the topic to see if one matches or similar. When it comes to rom questions I read that entire thread and then ask unless it is a crazy busy post then I'll use the search. Too many times I see repetitive posts and I can see how so many get agrivated, specially when that exact same question was asked and answered on the page or 2 prior. That right there is another example of lazy.
And yes I agree that it has a lot to do with a lack of knowledge but I would not say lazy isn't a party of it
