I just bought a Touch Diamond -very nice phone with a couple exceptions.
Touchflo 3d is nice but Im finding it doesnt have much depth - it needs more functions. And the loudspeaker is not very good - not loud, not clear.
Anyways, its my first windows mobile phone and had a couple questions about what WM6.1 can do. Im using Vista btw.
1. Email - Im downloading ALL my email and its fairly big. Can I force it to save only to internal storage?
2. Music - How do you get the album photo to come up while playing through Touchflo music - the picture does come up if i just play in windows media player.
3. Is it possible to add/remove multiple contacts from the People Menu ie Favourite contact
4. Most important - connectivity. Is it possible to access the phone wirelessly from PC via router? The phone connects to the router wirelessly fine and I can use the internet. But what I want to be able to do is either access the internal storage or sync up with outlook without using the usb cable.
5. What kind of BASIC phone functions does it have?
Eg. Call timer during call
Stop it going to that call history page after a call - i want it to go straight back to home.
Theres more functions it seems to be missing....
6. How do you make it so it FULLY shuts down a program when u hit the top right close button? I dont want to have to keep re-hitting the top right button to open task manager and full close it that way.
7. Lastly, is there any secret tips that a newbie wouldnt know about eg. codes to get to secret menus etc?
1. I don't think so, but I don't download email, so somebody who does may be able to help.
2. Strange problem, probably to do with the version of ID3 tags each uses. But again I have no idea how to solve it
3. No idea with no device in hand
4. Microsoft, being twats, reoved sync via Wi-Fi with the upgrade to WM2003. So, sorry mate, no way that I know
5. My dialer on my other PPC has call timer I think, but the diamond's may not, a new dialer with it included may solve the problem.
Other stuff missing?
6. Get a proper x button, like WKTask, or Wisbar, or something similar. Its also probably possible to change the settings to make it close by tapping X. I also think that with the HTC program, you can close by tap and hold, or, from today, click where the x should be, and a menu comes up enabling you to close them individually.
7. Secret codes? Not that I know of.
Hope the small things I have known here do help
Rory
Yeah, 6 is definitely something that can be done in the standard Windows Mobile settings (unless they've removed the setting in 6.1, in which case a registry edit might do it).
I guess when the phone has been out for a while, a lot of registry tweaks and utils will show up around here to adress all kinds of small and big issues.
i was gona go for a diamond but look at htc touch pro. everything diamond plus hardware keyboard and memory expansion slot (minus front camera).
Found how to fully close the progam in one go - went to task manager - button - and chose "End Programs by tapping X"
Under this option is "End programs by tapping and holding X" which is the default.
I tried it and it does work but I dont like it. Coz u cant really tell how long to hold it. If u keep holding, the program actually just stays open until u release. And I guess if u release too early it wont fully close.
Anyways - thats not a huge issue - wireless sync is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone found a way to get around it?
Best you can do with WIFI is put the UNC name of your pc into the browser and bring up the shares.
If you want to sync wirelessly, you'll have to do it via bluetooth. You should be able to get a bluetooth dongle for your pc for about 20 bucks though.
OH YEAH!!!!!!!! Going through Opera to browse my PC directory - You little beauty!!!
Now, how do I set up a name for the diamond so I can see it on my PC. Is there a setting you have to enable? I browse for "PCs" and it doesnt find the diamond - just my other PCs
Is anyone going to made a "My Mobiler" type of application for the G1?
It was very nice to have it with my Wing.
i loved it on my Wing too. i miss it!

As he already have Screenshot Application Relaying it to any IP Socket can make a Video Streaming of Onscreen on G1 then only Catching Mouse and Keyboard Events from PC to G1 is require and mapped and channels to Device can be done to Make such Applications
Bump!
Did anyone ever find an app that does anything remotely like this? I'd love to have this capability, since I'm near a desktop pretty much all day and could benefit greatly by responding to messages through a PC based console.

Someone, please do it! I used MyMobiler constantly on my previous WinMo phone (T-Mobile MDA). I would pay to have its equivalent for the Android T-Mobile G1. I haven't rooted my G1 (yet) but would absolutely do it if it was required for running a MyMobiler-like app.
Just think of it:
- Type text messages using your keyboard.
- View your mobile screen on your desktop.
- Control your mobile by using desktop keyboard and mouse.
- Copy/Cut/Paste text between mobile and desktop.
- Capture mobile screen.
- Drag and drop files to your mobile.

i looked in to this a little for a project i am working on (Droid Explorer). I found that /dev/input/event1 is the touch events, /dev/input/event2 is the trackball events, /dev/input/event3 is the keyboard and buttons, i cant figure out what /dev/input/event0 and /dev/input/event4 are for.
I tried writing to the file with events that were "recorded" but was unable to write to it. That is as far as I got when I was looking in to it, I put it on the back burner for now.
This would definitely be awesome to get going
Hmm, im not a dev or anything but wouldn't it be somewhat easy to redirect the emulator in the SDK to use the phone instead of the files in the SDK?

here is a VNC Server for android.
http://code.google.com/p/android-vnc-server/
it works realy slow so its not for daily use (and after a time of use, the android turns into a reboot), but i think in the sorcecode you can find something that can help u
Hey guys there is one now!
[Tool] Android Screencast (open-source)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=557717
Go search for mymobiler at code.google.com and vote for it.
I want something like this too and I can't root my phone...
Does the VNC Viewer work over USB? (On Windows Mobile it make a RNDIS connection over USB so I could use TCP/IP programs like Web/FTP/VNC Servers...)
MyMobiler for Android is good solution
For those who have used MyMobiler on WM, I just read on there website that MyMobiler now supports Android! I tested it and it works on my Inspire
http://mymobiler.com/ it is also listed in this froum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1230349

Hi
I'm using a program called remotedroid which connects to the pc and can send keyboard press events to it.
I've been trying to play around with eclipse and create a new soft keyboard to make keyboard shortcuts (like ctrl+alt+delete) but I couldn't find a way to use special keys like ctrl or alt.
Is there any way that a soft keyboard could simulate REAL keyboard keys?
I know that there is an option in android vnc that can send those special keys to the pc.
Does anyone know how to do this?
thanks

Not Development related. Moving to Apps.
You could try PhoneMyPC. Its a program for connecting your phone to your PC and interacting with it as if you had a mouse and keyboard.
Hi,
As you know you need to develop a client software for pc to receive and apply key strokes. As I remember there is a library called Win32 API library to invoke special operations that you want to do. It's not possible via sending simple key combinations. I will share If I found more specific info.

Hello all!
I really need your help, searched through this and other sources for 2 days now without any solution.
I usually set <Input Panel> to a hardware button on my devices,
so i can open the software keyboard (sip) inside fullscreen applications.
On my diamond i did this setting:
Button 1 (Hold) -> Input Panel.
For example in java fullscreen applications, like TibiaME,
i usually open the input panel by holding the "green" button.
Using this method, i was able to type inside java apps/games/midlets.
This worked perfectly on my HTC Prophet and on some ROMs on Touch Diamond.
But since i flashed my preferred ROM (BsB 6.5.1G), the software keyboard directly
closes again, if i open it inside some fullscreen applications.
For example, if i run a fullscreen java game on jbed, or Resco Snake,
the keyboard shows up like expected if i long-press the call button,
but directly disappears again.
The java apps also resize if i try to open the software keyboard,
leaving a gap where the keyboard should be, showing the application in the background (usually my homescreen).
The keyboard shows up, but directly closes again.
I never expierenced that problem before.
In some other applications, that problem doesnt appear.
For example in teeter the keyboard shows up and
stays in position like it should.
If anyone out there has an idea or a small hint,
it would be very nice if you could post your thoughts here.
Also, if you could test that behaviour on your device and post your
result here could be very helpful.
Im really stuck at this point and flashing another ROM
is not an option for me at the moment.
I already asked for that inside the ROMs thread,
but since it appeared on another ROM too, its not only ROM-related.
ROM-Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=506533&page=687
Edit:
For java midlets, i now use the following workaround:
-JBlend for "windowed" midlets, windows-bars visible, any SIP working.
(TibiaME update from 1.7 to current version fails, maybe someone could proof that?)
-Esmertec Jbed 20090506.2.1 for midlets that don´t need a SIP, like Final Fantasy.
For me, only swype works in fullscreen-mode.
-JRebeiro_Esmertec_Jbed_-_Build_20071119.3.1 for online games that need SIP and fullscreen-mode.
Any SIP working in fullscreen mode. Build is outdated, but allows SIP to stay in foreground.
I´m still looking for volunteers to check this on different devices / ROMs.
Still no solution for windows native applications and latest JBed builds.
Thank you very much for any help!
Best regards,
xumx

This app would be perfect on the NST: It allows to mark a website on your PC browser for later reading, and the website will get sent to the app automatically.
The great thing about this is that only the text will be sent, every useless content of the website will be stripped. The text then gets displayed in the app using pretty nice typography etc.
Really great, unfortunately it does not work on my NST. Clicking the app icon makes the screen flash, but then nothing happens. On the Google Play site it says it needs 2.1, so it should work, but nope.
I contacted the authors of the program, and actually got a response, but it consisted of one word: "Sorry". No idea whether that means they will fix it...
Any ideas?
Hi, when the app was released I faced this problem too. I managed to fix the crash by hacking it with apktool and now it works. However, the UI is severely broken (mostly text color equals to the background, can't read anything) so the XML files need tweaking. As I didn't like the app much and ended up uninstalling anyway. I can send the apk if someone is willing to try.
I really think the NST is missing a good app for reading webpages later. Since the Readability API (also maybe other similar services) is public, it is feasible to write a new app for this.
Yes there are also Readitlater and Instapaper, but they don't seem to be as good:
They do not have Firefox plugins (only bookmarklets), the Android app is not so nice typography-wise, and also I am not sure whether they are completely free.
On my Android smartphone I really like Readbility.
I found an alternative Readability client for android, ReadIt, but the latest version was somewhat broken, probably because Readability changed its layout recently. Good thing is this app is open source, so I could fix its behavior and now it works properly (it's basic, but quite nice app). I also added NST keys support.
Modified source is here: https://github.com/marspeople/ReadIt
Wow, awesome, thanks!
It does not have background sync so you have to remember to sync your articles before you get out of Wifi range. But the reading module is great.
There seems to be a bug with the Archives section: I can not read all articles in there. Some load correctly, others throw you back to the start screen of the app.
Yeah, there may be some bugs since the developer stopped working on it. I could reproduce this one you mentioned and it is also here: https://github.com/fahimk/ReadIt/issues/3
But is open source, maybe I will try to fix it later.
It would be nice not to have to screw around with the key bindings of every program.
It's better to fix it in the Nook, where the problem actually is.
Moreover, there will be some other programs where we can't easily change the bindings.
Keycode 92 = KEYCODE_PAGE_UP (Android) = "LEFT_NEXTPAGE" (Nook Reader.apk)
Keycode 93 = KEYCODE_PAGE_DOWN (Android) = "LEFT_PREVPAGE" (Nook Reader.apk)
If you just set any of the four hard keys in TWL4030_Keypad.kl that you want to do a page down/next page to
"LEFT_PREVPAGE" everything will work out fine.
Likewise, set any of the four hard keys that you want to do page up/previous page to "LEFT_NEXTPAGE".
You have to then switch the preference in Settings / Reader to the right image.
When you are all done, a Page Down is a Page Down is a Page Down.

I don't understand. Are you saying that editing TWL4030_Keypad.kl you can make any app (including Opera) perform page down/up without modification? I see that my TWL4030_Keypad.kl ends with:
Code:
key 407 RIGHT_NEXTPAGE WAKE_DROPPED
key 412 LEFT_NEXTPAGE WAKE_DROPPED
key 139 LEFT_PREVPAGE WAKE_DROPPED
key 158 RIGHT_PREVPAGE WAKE_DROPPED
I guess these lines were added by NookTouchTools. But most apps will not respond to these keys (except some framework elements such as ListView), unless you modify the source code. What am I missing here?
In the stock Nook, the four hard keys generate four scan codes.
Using /system/usr/keylayout/TWL4030_Keypad.kl these four scan codes are mapped into four key codes.
In /system/app/Reader.apk these four keycodes are mapped into two operations: next and previous page.
There is no reason at all to use four keycodes.
The standard keycode for KEYCODE_PAGE_UP is 92.
The standard keycode for KEYCODE_PAGE_DOWN is 93.
Assign the hard keys how you want them.
If you want two up buttons and two down, do it that way.
If you want down, up, menu, back, do that.
For apps besides Reader.apk you will be generating normal page up/page down keys.
Reader.apk fortunately does not require modification, simply set the preference as above to get the sense of up/down correct.
I have my Nook set up like this and paging works fine on OI File Manager, AndChat, K-9 Mail.
Code:
# Layout file for Nook Touch hardware buttons
key 412 LEFT_NEXTPAGE # Upper left
key 407 LEFT_PREVPAGE # Upper right
key 139 BACK # Lower left
key 158 MENU # Lower right
This is what I have for Upper left = Page up, Upper right = Page down, Lower left = Back, Lower right = Menu.
(Yes, the names in the file are "backwards" from what you would think.)
Note: Opera is ignorant. It doesn't do anything for page up/page down keys.
This has been noted and complained about bitterly on the internet.
Ok, but just to clarify, since your settings seems to be equivalent to mine (regarding page up/down), I guess your system cannot perform paging by keys in stock ReadIt app because it doesn't implement actions for KEYCODE_PAGE_UP and KEYCODE_PAGE_DOWN (I think several apps don't), right?
KEYCODE_PAGE_UP & KEYCODE_PAGE_DOWN appeared in API level 9. (We're at 7)
Later devices use these codes.
The only real control over which codes you can use is the question of which names can be parsed in a KL file.
I haven't gotten around to extending that yet.
The codes go up to 210 right now, but if you want to send a 666 to your app there is no problem with that.
Code:
# input keyevent 666
It comes through loud and clear.
hi marspeople,
thanks again for your modded readIt app which I use almost daily.
I have the following problem all the time: After having sent a new article to ReadIt, when I open it for the first time, the reader does not display the beginning of the article, but some part in the middle.
I suspect that the reason is, that the app remembers where you were in an article, but that it only stores this info relative to something like "article no. 5". now if you delete article number 5 and upload another article, probably the old saved position will be applied to the new article.
Do you think you could fix this without too much effort?
thanks for the mod, marspeople.
I find that it doesn't scroll a full screen at a time, is this normal?
Up/down swipes are sometimes interpreted incorrectly but that's no big deal.
I can't duplicate rhhd's problem.

Is this safe - when I wanted to connect to readability.com I got the message that Fahim karim wanted to acess my readability acount?
not checked the code yet, but I supose yes, is safe. the cuestion is related to the Readability API access. The author of the app uses his API key to access your Readability account, therefore, permision is needed.
(I know the thead is oldie, but I was searching fir exactly this. Thanks!)

I had installed this last year and it worked no problem. I unrooted and rerooted with NookManager (original root was with TouchNooter), and now I can't authorize. I don't know if it's related to the type of root or not. When I go to authorize, it sends me to the browser, where I log in, and it gives me a code, but next time I go to ReadIT, it still wants me to Authorize. Anyone else have this problem?
Just to let you guys know, I'm using ReadItLater which is the old Pocket app. Works great on the NST.

I found it using the searchmarket app on the Nook. Direct link here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ideashower.readitlater.free
And yes it syncs with pocket no problem although push-sync is not supported on 2.1 so you have to sync at set intervals or on open.
