Hey everyone, I am new to all this but like the rest of you, I wanted my phone to function better. I did the z4root, then I downloaded rom manager premium and i installed super user elite. I have also put astro file manager and androzip file, but when I download cm#24 from the download rom on rom manager and then select flash clockworkmod recovery it pops up a screen that says comfirm phone model HTC Hero (cdma). I select this, It tells me successfully flashed clockwork recovery then I press ok. but nothing happens after that. Please help... What am I doing wrong???
Thanks
Power off phone, hold home then power(end). This is clockwork that you'll be in. Then follow rom install instructions to flash.

Turn off signature verification in recovery. I think it's under advanced.

My Tab is rooted and it says I have the correct recovery, yet I can't flash roms/backup current roms/get into Clockwork recovery. Everytime I try to flash something it gets aborted but before that it says Installing MICS failed or something similar. I'm familiar with flashing roms yet I don't know what's going on.

First, download ROM Manager and reflash clockwork mod.

I've done that a few times, still fails.

is you TAB GSM or CDMA? if you TAB is GSM you should use this tutorial . The Kernel it has already the CWM recovery, also will convert your system to Ext4 ..... Did you applied the patch from here . I believe you have a protected bootloader....
Thanks for the info. I'm not by a pc but it seems I don't need the secondary link, it seems I don't need the patch because it already is patched. And I have a gsm tab.

I just wanted to chime in to say that I'm having this problem too. I've rooted using the the proper steps and installed tom manager and downloaded the lastest cwm. I tell it to reboot and I get the aborted, signature cannot be verified blah blah.
I tried everything step over and over again and I always get that error so I cannot get into cwm.
Like the OP I have a t849 tmobile galaxy tab.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I figured it out
OK so this may sound stupid but when I first flashed the recovery rom using the adb push method for the recovery image and tmobile_zImage I did not have a micro-sd card because the SGT-849 has 16GB of built in memory. I just tried it again but this time I popped in a microsd and used adb to push the recovery flash files, ran recovery, rebooted, ran ROM Manager and told it to boot into recovery and ClockWorkRecovery Mod worked
So if you havent used the method if implementing an ADB bridge to push the tmobile flash files you need to do that WITH a microSD apparently.
My boot screen changed from the boring Samsung Logo to a Galaxy Tab + Samsung Logo. Which boot logo do you have?

I dont have knowledge in adb because I'm never on a pc, but I ordered a 32gb sd card so i'll see what happens.

I've downloaded ROM manager and clicked on 'flash clockwork recovery'. this placed a 'update.zip' onto my phone. I downloaded a custom ROM and placed this zip in the same place. in ROM manager i choose install from sd card, locate the custom rom and select it. i reboot into clockwork recovery mode and i get the 'android system recovery mode' The options at the top are in blue. i believe this is wrong?
I'm led to believe i should click on 'apply sdcard:update.zip' but when i do i get
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Install aborted
I'm using a samsung galaxy s with the standard orange rom.
Any ideas?
U need to root your device first... flash a kernel like speedmod and it'll rot ur device after this u can install ur custom rom. remember while flashing via odin repartition should be unchecked
You would root and then just need to flash update.zip, dont place rom anywhere near it. I would delete your current update.zip and go through process (minus rom) again.
Alternatively and easier, is what ^^ he said.

I've already rooted my phone.
Dont i need to put the downloaded mod on my sdcard to install it? :/
Rom manager puts the update.zip file there but when i try to run it it fails :/
Yep place the rom into sdcard/
Sometimes in stock recovery, you may have to choose flash update.zip twice to install cwm
However
Mate, if you can use odin, just flash a pre rooted kernel with cwm installed. Should take about 5 mins to download and flash. Chainfire would probably be my recommendation.
Make sure you read kernel flashing instructions before you start.

And my phone wont go into this mode :/ or recovery mode

Not at all, just curious. Can you not force download mode via adb? (havent needed to use it myself, so can't advise further)
i would suggest you apply the 3 button combo fix though before proceeding. If you can get into dl mode, its nigh impossible to brick, if not, then its all too easy.....
Dont rush mate, have a good search and read-up first.
Hope I've helped some.

I'll take a look at the 3 button combo fix and the adb method.
Thanks for all your help
No worries. Cwm method will only work with 2e recovery - if you have 3e, then you will need dl mode odin and kernel.

It doesn't boot??
& you say every time I install recovery??
Didn't get your problem.
Please elaborate
I got your problem ! Hoping that you meant to say that you aren't able to boot into recovery after flashing cwm, I say, just flash stock via odin, place the cwm 5.0.2.6 file on your sd, reboot into stock recovery, choose install update from sd, browse & flash cwm.zip & reboot. You must be able to get the cwm recovery the next time you try to boot into recovery...

Install stock recovery again and try installing CWM again.
You can find stock recovery thread in Android Development section of SGA
Yep I did that. But evry time I install cwm 5.0.2.6 recovery I have to odin flash it because I can never go back into recovery again. Although cwm 6.0.0.1 or Cwm 6 I forgot what it is, works on my phone.

Hi guys!
I will try to mod a Galaxy Ace (stock 2.3.6), but the home button is dead.
So, I suppose the most part of my job will be made under adb shell. I'm thinking to start rooting it using SuperOneClick. But I need a recovery version that don't use the home button. I was thinking to flash the PX Recovery, which have touch support. But all the versions I looked for are flashable via recovery (I found a Galaxy Mini recovery flashable via Odin instead).
I was noticed by this forum search engine a same issue with a Galaxy S phone user, solved using CF-Root (its CWM shifts home for power button, a nice workaround), but I don't want to make a mistake and brick this Ace.
I could flash PX Recovery, extracting the img file from the CWM package, pushing it to the phone and flashing it manually, but it could be risky also. Just an idea, since the recovery interface do the same thing, but with a GUI.
I'd like some directions before perform any flash on this phone. I found a lot of resources here for my old phones (Motorola MB501, Samsung Galaxy 5 and Ace), but this Ace will be a challenge, for sure!
Thanks in advance!

Unrooted 2.3.6 stock ROM. As I said above, first thing is root it, using the instructions from this community. Phone is "untouched" yet.
You'll be wanting the home button anyway. So why not take it to a service center & get it fixed ? There are a few work arounds but why do all that ?

Out warranty, and the service center will, for sure, replace the entire board, so they can charge more money than the service I need. In Brazil, it's common raise the service prices more than needed. Would be easier find for another Ace than fix it =)
Try to root your your phone using superoneclick. Then install cwm manager & select install update from sd card. And flash px recovery. Choose a stock based rom with ext4 file system & flash without wipes. I think you won't be able to wipe anything off stock rom as it isn't in ext4 format. Now after flashing the rom, reboot. Now reboot into recovery, do full wipes & flash the rom again to get it clean ! Done !

Venomous, just don't forget my dead home button. I can't make selections on the recovery interface. If you read above, I'm thinking to use adb commands to flash it (adb shell flash-recovery cwm.img, for example). So, if I extract the recovery img file, push it into the phone sd card, and flash using adb/fastboot, will it work?
As well I can switch to download mode through adb (reboot-download).

But px recovery doesn't require home button & cwm manager is just an app, not recovery. I haven't tried superoneclick & I donno if it uses home button during the process. But if not, my method should work.

Is CWM Manager a frontend of CWM Recovery, or is it an Independent app? Once this ace is still stock (stock recovery, I can't flash unsigned packages), I'm not sure it will work. Did you got it now?
CWM manager is an app. You can access it from app drawer, grant su permissions & select install update from sd card. Choose px recovery zip & it automically reboots into recovery & flashes it for you. And then you can use px recovery to flash roms. I'm sorry I cannot help any further unless you try or I'm sorry if I ain't able to understand what you want to convey.
