[FIX]CM7 GPS direction Issue - Legend Android Development

Hi Guys,
A member of the cyanogenmod posted a fix for the direction issue.
I just wanted to bring it here, so more people can test it.
Original thread:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/20584-directioncompass-issues/
Keep an eye on that thread, maybe there will be an update.
EDIT: I think ali ba posted a open source fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13123944&postcount=31
People reporting that is working to!

Just note that this just installs the original closed source GPS module, problem with CM7 is that loc_api module calculates the bearing/direction wrong. But only on Legend, so probably the data from GPS is not usable as is.

Couldn't really care less which bit of which ROM it installs as long as it works

Well you'll care once you update your ROM you'll have to apply this "fix" again

Hardly; I won't be updating until it's fixed. Besides, it's one more tiny update to apply, I'm sure I can spare the 20 seconds out of my life.

Thank you for this fix. I'll try it tomorrow

Yes, it works! thx

Just now tested it and it works brilliantly, thanks for posting this =)

I don't care what it does; it works and that's what matters. I still can't believe they released the final CM7 without GPS working while older nightlies worked fine.

If you can add debug messages to heading/bearing calculation it would maybe help you to get a better idea about whats going on?

Oh, thank you, this is a great idea!
Now, would you care to tell me where to add these debug messages?

Sygic Aura works fine after installing Gps fix but Igo don't play well... I mean, application run but with an heavy delay in updating the video probably because the program it's waiting for GPS update.
Tested with a fresh install of CM7 today.

If you could add debug messages to bearing/heading calculation WE (THE NIGHTLY USERS) could help you with debugging with OUR OWN logs. kthnxbye.

Where was that "bearing/heading calculation" again? I can't seem to find anywhere.
Anyway, if I find it, what "debug messages" do you want me to add?

Sarcastic and synical, I am sure you are a great developer and I am very glad with the roms and your development, but I don't understand why you have to behave like this, feels no good.

Another explanation would be that I'm actually trying to get people out of their demanding attitude towards something that is more in the spirit of open source. I failed, obviously.
CyanogenMod is not some closed source project of a few people trying to get a little bit of fame. We are enthusiasts, we enjoy what we do and most important: We open source every freaking single line of code.
Yet still people run around giving unbelievably ridiculous advice ("add debug messages") de-facto trying to tell me what to do instead of trying to accomplish it themselves.
No, "I don't know how to" doesn't count – I don't either. I've been writing software for quite a few years now – embedded systems, web development, HDL, etc. – and I know very well that it's absolutely exhausting to actually do something instead of telling others what to do. It takes a long time to understand code, it might be frustrating and you sometimes have to stop, do something else and resume a few days later. Same for me as for everyone else. I'm not angry that most people are afraid of that.
What actually makes me want to scream is a patronizing, "kthnxbye"-ing smarty-pants who thinks he had some sort of brain wave telling me to "add debug messages". It's a standard procedure to attach a debugger, add debug output, do whatever gives you insight on what it's doing and why it's wrong.
To get an idea about this specific bug I had to find out when the compass is used and when it takes the heading values, where those values are retrieved, whether there are any conversions going on that shouldn't, whether it's a random issue or something there that triggers it. All by reading through crappy code that was reverse engineered by guessing and hacking together code that was never written for the Legend's hardware and running around outside like an idiot because I still need a real GPS signal to get debug output.

You're going about it in entirely the wrong way, if I may. If it annoys you that much, knock a FAQ together when you've the time, and stop answering posts that rile you up. People get responses to demands, and they don't stop once they get a response.
I'll probably get a nice pile of mad for this bit, but try to understand that the vast majority of people who come here don't understand this "Linux thing" or software development- they have a phone, and they just like it to work. They like cool stuff, and they like not having to pay for it even more. If their post annoys you so much, why not just ignore it instead of getting your rage/apathy/etc on? People don't learn by being told they're dumb, they learn by asking questions. If you don't want to answer them, then don't- it's really that simple
Do bear in mind before you reply that most people here really value the work you guys put into CM. Don't think that my post suggest otherwise, I really am genuinely trying to help the situation here.

There are 3 command you can enter:
Code:
[email protected]?1

[email protected]=270F,270F

Dave
I use ATcommander and send
[email protected]?1 and [email protected]?0 and
it's OK, but when i send [email protected]=270F,270F i see ERROR
I've installed Hard-SPL
Why?
Thanks
I knew it......
... when i enter the 270F,270F it says ERROR.
Correct me if i'm wrong Dave. You simply type in what you told me to, namely the AT code and hit send, yes?
I am truly amazed at the amount of help offered to someone who wants to sell a used phone as new. Spare a thought for the poor sod who will be conned into this. And please don't start the "it's like new business", you know it isn't.
You might need security unlock or Hard SPL at least to do this.
So if you have HardSPL already, you possibly need security unlock. Security unlock is still been worked on at the moment, so you could be stuck for a while.
Sorry, but I don't own a Blackstone to test on.
Thanks

What I am trying to bring to this thread is a bit of ethos and concern for the guy to whom you will flock your wears. 3 days or 133 days you have no right to clock it and present it for something it isn't. It is also illegal.

Illegal? Well 2 things.
1. As you'll have noticed, i'm new to all this side of things as far as XDA goes so i was unaware of that.
2. Tell that to everyone else and quit hassling me.
The ethics and ethos of this have been discussed everytime a thread like this is started.
As this is not possible at the moment I see no need for this discussion to continue.

[Q] Cool things to do with Cyan's 4.0.1

Very new to root and roms. I upgraded to 4.0.1 very soon after having 3.6.8.1.
What are some of the neat things you can do? What settings have you changed? I JUST found out that there was another keyboard other than the android touch.
I did not know where this was appropriate and did not want to junk up cyans rom thread. Hope this is okay and apologies if its not. Just want to know what other cool features I am missing out on, and to also see what settings people roll with.

Best way to get the whole story is to compare the changelog of 3.6.8.1 to 4.0.1 which is available in their respective threads. One thing that was cool was the global search function from donut but that go reverted in 4.0.1. It will probably make an appearance in the 4.x.x experimental series however.....
I should clarify, I did not have 3.6.8.1 long enough to find all the easter eggs either. What settings do you change or things do you use after flashing his rom?

yeah i'd also like to know.. im also new to the art of the root.. i also have my own questions
i know the myfaves app doesnt work, in fact doesnt even appear lol, but the actual myfaves service still works right?
and do the im apps work? im talking about the native one. it doesnt seem to be working for me =/
also, i want my settings optimized for overall speed.. what do you guys use for this?

You don't want the mygayes app on your phone anyways, its just a hog. It still does work, if you need to set it up just go to your online account and do it.
What native im app are you talking about, its been to long since I had the factory rom installed. But I can vouch for aim and googletalk do work.
If you are on Cyanogens rom everything should be optimized to full speed.
yeah i never used the myfaves thing to begin with, thats why when i heard its gone if you root, i didnt really care lol. plus i was already planning on getting rid of the whole service anyway. but thanks!
im talking about the one that comes with the phone. has aim, msn, and yahoo. i try logging but it just endlessly keeps saying "signing in..". im not sure if i just have to wait, or if its not working.
awesome!

Point taken...my appologies...Supreme and I like to keep things lighthearted and have some fun. I'm sure I speak for him when I say we both apologize for offending you.
To answer your question....I was pretty much being completely serious about reading the change logs and comparing. That's where I get most of my info but as far as settings go, I second someone else's poste about the badass power widget. I also like the 5 homescreen options, the logcollector app is nice for troubleshooting, the fact that the buld.prop file has been changed slightly means that the new version of "My Account" runs properly without any futzing around, and playing around with the text app is fun because of the mms enhancements courtesy of rgv151.
Many of the other enhancements that make cyan's ROMs awesome are behind the scenes that just make it run faster (kernel tweaks, CPU scaling etc). These have no options available to the user, they just are part of the build that contribute to cyanoganized awesomeness.

Just like Direct said we ain't tryna make fun or nothing. We do help out alot, but after a long boring day of programming at work we got to do something fun to help pass time away. And hey we really didn't even joke around unlike the other thread. Best thing to do is just play around with the phone, try out all the apps, play with the settings, and just explore. Like Direct said alot of things are behind the scenes.

If you scroll through till the end, there is a recommended list of Apps.
I strongly recommend you Follow the guide to root, enable side loading, as well lift the market restrictions that ATT has put on the phone. No reason not to.
(The section on Launcher Pro is optional, since some people seem to like TouchWiz (i used it for a while, just switched to launcherPro to try it out) )

i think a non-market app thread would be especially helpful

I'll do it. Give me a few hours to get everything together.
Its my first time doing one of these, but I think if I can set it up right the first time, managing it will be fairly easy.
That said, is there a limit on how many post you can reserve? To give an ideal solution to the problem, I'd be looking at like 15 or so. Would people have a problem with this, or is that an acceptable number?
Sweet mate....not sure about the reserves Q...maybe check the Tilt 2 thread for ideas

Already did that. I've asked for permission (awaiting reply) to steal the design and I've made a few modifications to it that I think will make it easier to maintain and access. However, doing so requires a tremendous number of reserved posts. I'm trying to decrease the number by combining sections I think will have a low volume, but it will still take a large number of posts to do what I want.
Doesnt bother me at all but maybe ask a mod?
Just as an update.
I've gotten a mod's ok on reserving the number of posts in want. The only. Stipulation is it has to be organized. And I don't think that will be a problem.
I'm still waiting on a response from the Rhodium thread upkeeper, and iirc the thread was last updated in May. If I don't have a response by this time tomorroe, ill assume they've left XDA indefinitely, and will post the topic. If they later have an issue with my using a similar format, ill just edit my format.
In the mean time, ill continue working on the formatting of the thread and include a few items to see how it will look when populated. Hopefully this turns out as awesomely as I want it to.
I don't think this thread will take much more than an hour or so to maintain after it gets rolling, so keeping it up to date shouldn't be an issue by my logic. I just hope people provide all relavant information. Lol
It's not much, but id like to do my part to contribute its to a community that provides so much information and so many resources. Maybe this way I wont feel like such a leech. XD

It was getting into a menu very similar to this on the Droid Incredible that enabled us to get Wifi Hotspot working without subscription.
Tinker away.
Anyone know what data call setting does?

I just got off the phone with support attempting to get my SMS working correctly and they had me go into a menu I had not seen anyone mention in here yet. This is a programming menu that you find on other android devices although I hadn't seen anyone find it for the droid X yet. Here is how to enter it-

Anyways thanks gimpeh...I went through all the settings quickly and could not find any of the settings to get the hotspot with out subscription. I will go through it a little more, but i don't think it can be accessed through this.

Was there anything interesting in the last option? I was unable to open it as it launchs cmas.apk which tranquility removes.

What's more priceless is that there are people who think that a) everyone follows every single phone on this forum and b) people don't switch phones.
He found something he thought was interesting he wanted to share, and some scrubs try to make fun of him?
No wonder there is zero development inspiration for this phone. The emo teenieboppers will just be unappreciative and immature and ruin the community anyhow, so why bother?

It's only an option to enable/disable cmas which has something to do with with emergency alerts.
There is also another menu to access which the number is listed below, which I found in another thread here in the DX forums, but it seems to have been abandoned(the thread I mean).
*#*#4636#*#*
It's mainly the phone info and usage statistics, I see nothing for DUN settings in here either.

My implication was the inability to use search with 900+ posts under your belt. Instead just adding to the clutter of repetitive threads; which is unappreciative, immature, and ruin's the community.
Just because you don't see development, you again assume there is little inspiration... that's a little mind speaking.

Yeah, and you're doing the community such a grand service with your repetitive comments. Thanks in advance for your next comment!
Someone please close this thread. The information is now available for those who want it.
Those that don't, go argue some where else.

If you send me your email address, I'll send you an .apk that turns your phone into a WAP. Very easy to do, as long as you are rooted.
Thanks LexusBrian. I will send u a PM shortly

Actually, since the entire Droid X forum here gets less hits than my personal website (which is unlisted, unadvertised and mostly for my friends and family), discouraging anyone from posting anything that might be additional or useful information is FAR more damaging to any community you might think you serve (FYI, "the community" is not considered "you and you alone" - despite what your parents may teach you).
If YOU (of course, that's what you are thinking of here) don't like it, hit the back button. If you need guidance in locating this tool in your browser, send me a PM and I will work through it with you since I am familiar with pretty much every major browser out there.

I know there is development, but not NEARLY as much as other phones released at the same time, and certainly the majority of it isn't discussed here. Gee, wonder why.
When you;
a) Figure out that you do not speak for any community or, in fact, comprise the majority opinion just because you think you do
and
b) Find the back button or the link located at the top of the page that takes you to the message list
THEN you can even begin to talk to me. Until then, let the discussion resume with the big people and you just stay quiet and let other people do all the work.
Thanks for your cooperation.

anyone know what data call enabled does ?

Juice Defender

What everyone's setup? For the life of me, I can't get it to work as it's supposed to work. If I turn it on (the basic setting), it turns data off but never comes back on, not even if I disable it. It takes a full reboot to actually get data back. It's too bad, because when it's on my battery goes forever, but I can't do all of the things that this phone was made to do. Any suggestions for the customization, or any possible fix?
Btw I'm on the latest gv.
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA App
I have the same problem too w JD I tried all settings and the 3g/4g still won't turn unless I reboot
Are there a fix?
I even tried uninstall then reinstall the app still nothing
Not sure if it's only GV 1.3 cause I haven't try it on previous version
Bulletproof 512 ledded AWD SuperCharged RC4/GV1.3 - Nullified & Nooped 3072 + Ad-Shot v13 ;p
I used this app on the Froyo rom, but now on Gingerbread I just uninstalled it. Same exact issue with not being able to bring data back
Seems other Revo owners are having the same issue, there's a thread over at the Juice Defender support page. I don't have enough posts so I can't link the thread.

PM the link to me and I'll post it. We should all go add to the thread...the bigger the problem is, the sooner it'll get fixed. I paid for the Ultimate version of it, so I'll use that as a justification for yelling even louder lol.
I'm using the Beta version too, doesn't seem to make any difference as I have the same problem. Hope they fix this soon...JD triples my battery life; really don't like giving that up.
Just sent you the PM

Love the response from the Devs... Our dev is busy and you are the only one having the problem. We are going to down grade its priority... lol... sounds like a garbage app to me...

That was a few weeks ago. They actually have a dev working on it now, as of Nov 23. Vote for it and we should see some progress.

Ha I appreciate it. It really does wonders...when it works. I just sent a them a log. Easy process, so if everyone else could do it that would help.

No offense to the guy, but I thought the author of that report was less than helpful in describing the problem; not to mention it doesn't sound like the same issue we're having here, because he can resolve it by entering airplane mode. Likewise, I didn't think any of the comments were that helpful either.
I didn't have anything to do today...well, that's not true, but I didn't want to do any of the things I had to do, so I took a bunch of time away from the things I needed (but didn't want) to do and wrote this up:
http://bit.ly/w42tou
It's on that same site, but it describes the problem in (painstaking?) detail. I also sent them six different logs that cover various stages of the problem. I even gave you guys a shout out at the end of it.
I'd appreciate it if you guys visited the link and voted for/commented on the post. Mostly because I think it'll help encourage the devs to actually do something, but also so I don't feel like a moron for writing something nobody reads. (But it really is way better than that other guy's.)
Voting is probably sufficient enough, but it can't hurt to throw a comment on there to help raise the profile of the post. Like someone mentioned previously, if you're using the beta version of JD, open it up and send a log file when it occurs again.
haha, although I imagine most of you have disabled it at this point, I know I have.
EDIT: The Dev that's working on this mentioned this on the crappy post, along with several other things that never got answered by the original author or any of the individuals commenting. Anyone out there "enterprising" enough to take this on?

4) I wish some enterprising tinkerer with a Revolution could shed some light on the issue by testing out different radio firmwares (as I’m 99% sure the cause is the one that comes with the 2.3.4 OTA)
