Titanium backup - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know when restoring with Tibu, just user apps with data, no system apps -is it ok to restore the item "media/playlists" using the "data only" option? -is there another way to save music playlists if that is likely to cause a problem?
Thanks

As long as you are running a similar base rom I don't think it would be an issue. I would not restore 2.1 to 2.2. Only one way to find out, if it cause issues reflash

Most things that are highlighted in green can be restored safely, always use caution though.

Thanks, I think that one is in red -I used it before and doesn't seem to be a problem as far as I can see. When I selected it, it asked "restore data only?" Currently on a 2.2 rom, but might try a 2.2.1

How would u go back to stock? Stock ROM and kernel, everything.

I'm trying to figure out how to go back to stock completely. I've used the odin one click thing but is that completely stock? Thank you in advance.

Either you want to go back to completely stock or you dont...
~T.J.
Get the one click root/unroot program. Then Titanium Backup (donate, it makes it SO much better/faster) backup user apps + system data. Then restore the missing Apps Only not system data, unroot and you should be set.

Updating to stock froyo.

My mom has a captivate running stock android 2.1.
I only enabled lagfix on her phone and nothing else.
After the official froyo came out I was thinking about updating it.
I have a few questions about it. Please answer as many as you can...
1. Will all apps disappear?
2. If yes for #1 do I need to get titanium backup?
3. Do I disable lagfix?
Please help.. thank you

Here's your answer, search the forums. You will find it.
1. All apps will dissapear! Be warned
2. You should use titanium backup thats a good idea but the kb1 must be rooted and sideloading enable to get them all back (use super one click) also put the titanium backup folder on external sd or on computer just in case
3. YES DISABLE THE LAGFIX VERY IMPORTANT

Thanks for the reply!. Would have caused a great trouble if I didn't question this...
Anyway just wondering, if I just had the captivate and did not know anything about root/flash/etc I would have just updated and gotten everything deleted right?
Did Samsung mention the fact that all my apps would have disappeared?. I just think its unfair to some people....

With normal android devices this would not have been an issue as the apps reinstall when you light into your Google account but that feature is missing from the Galaxy line

Yea, you should take all the important folders off your internal sd card like the titanium backup folder and put them spmewhere on you computer, that's what I did and once I updated I got all my files back, I still needed to root/enable sideloading to get my apps from TiBu back
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yes, it would have gotten deleted even if you hadn't upgraded to the ji6 build of froyo

Is that true? Now it makes sense why nothing seems to happen when I go to a new rom.
No clue... Probably a comp or browser

[Q] ICS Nandroid Restore

Hello,
I have had some issues with a ROM (Extreme ICS) and had to reinstall it.
I backep up everything as Nandroid Backup, because there were several bootloops, everytime stuck etc. and when I restored it, again bootloops.
I restored only "data".
Now, I flashed CM9 and tried to restore only the "data" at "advanced restore", but again, it stucks at the CM9 boot screen and is loading .. now since 10 minutes ..
Tried it with DevilKernel and Semaphore and stock CM9 Kernel of course.
Nothing.
Can I do everything ? Any ideas ? I want to have my apps like colorNote again
Thank you,
YEA64
Restore data one app at a time, and no system data, then you can find the data that is causing problems

I'm referring to titanium, clean flash you're ROM, and then restore one app at a time

I think you missunderstood me .. I am doing Nandroid backup not Titanium ..
The backup in CWM ..

You won't have much luck trying to restore data across roms like that though, hence my titanium reference

Damn .. so I can't do anything .. ?
It boots until the boot screen of the ROM .. it passes the Kernel logo and so on .. but it "loads" to a long time, so in your opinion it is non sense to wait ?

I would go for a clean instal, I go back to gb every month or so, just to keep it clean and slick, only takes an hour to clean flash and restore back to where I am on slim, then as soon as I'm back and clean I do fresh nandroid and I know I'm safe and protected, might sound over the top but I give a lot of advise on slim thread and I need to know what works, what are bugs, and what is caused by user mess ups!

Task Manager is not showing in app drawer.

My task manager is gone from the app drawer. I reflashed my rom, but still the same. Flashed another rom and still the same! I did full wipe and everything else, but he is not showing. I can enter through the Recent Applications, but its not in the App drawer. Could it be from connecting the phone to my Philips Smart TV with the usb cable? Any ideas on how to fix this?
Try to see in the system/app if it is there.
If it is there, do you have app installed that hide the said app not to appear, for example a go launcer.

It's there and it's not from the launcher. I tried TSF, TouchWizz and Apex and he is not there...
Try to format your internal sd. Be in safe kernel first before doing it like speedmod k3-13 if your on ics rom.

Yes, im on ICS with Hydra Core kernel. Is it safe?
Yes you are safe. Its better to factory reset and check also the format usb storage, remember if you do this you will lose all your data. Use titanium if you want, before restoring pls check if the said app appear.

Ready to change my old android 4.0 for 4.2.2

Hi people!!!
I'm ready to change my old android 4.0 for a new one, i'm thinking in 4.2.2 because it's newer and i think that has less bugs that this version.
But i'm worried about my apps, and services, like my gps points and my advace in my games and download again everything!!!
So, i want to know if exist any app to avoid download all again, and keep my info, like my notes, my downloads and everything.
Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Google will back up all of your apps if you opted to do so. Make a nandroid back up in recovery, as well as a TiBu backup. Then when you isntall 4.2.2 you should be able to recover everything with those 3 backups.

Going from 4.0 to 4.2.2 could cause issues though so be warned that after you restore your data you could encounter FC's. Not saying it will happen but there is always a chance. Especially considering that there is a completely different partition layout between where you are and where you are wanting to go.

Well wouldn't he just flash 4.2.2 twice, then the gapps, and restore non-system apps and be fine?

Yes that would work perfectly as far as restoring apps. However the restore of user data for the apps so he has his last save point on a game or is already logged into Facebook might be a different story. With the use of the /datadata partition in JB it could cause issues. But it might not I really don't know.

Good point, didn't think of that. I would think the apps should be able to find the correct path though when restoring backups from ICS to JB...worst comes to worst just move it manually

I know that cm10.1 has a symbolic link, data/data >> datadata, that gets created when you flash it. I imagine that is only there to allow legacy settings to work.

Try both out. I would start by doing all your backups and then upgrade and try to restore your data. If it works then go with it. If you have problems resort to the other option.
